A circular polarizing filter is a must for any photographer who shoots outdoors on sunny days — in other words, just about all of you. It reduces glare and surface reflections on shiny objects, and deepens the color of skies, foliage and water by reducing the amount of scattered, multi-directional rays of sunlight reaching the sensor.

These filters are made to exacting standards. The glass is specially blended for optimal optical results, and the careful multi-coating process minimizes any reflections from the glass that might cause flaring or ghosting. A rigid, protective aluminum frame keeps the filter firmly in place, and the low profile makes it compatible with many super- and ultra-wide angle lenses that otherwise might not be able to accommodate a filter.

Product Highlights:

  • precision glass lens filter is carefully smelted and blended for perfect optical results
  • fits most lenses with 62mm thread diameter
  • protects lens from bumps, scratches, and dust
  • decreases glare and reflections in images while increasing the contrast and crispness of outdoor scenes and deepening sky colors
  • multi-layer coatings greatly reduce surface reflections from the filter's glass
  • low-profile black aluminum frame keeps filter rigid and parallel to the plane of the sensor
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is not an EVO Antistatic filter but the earlier EVOversion. In my opinion, I paid 50% of money to get an equally-high quality CPL with 99% of function. I have the newest EVO Antistatic UV filter, which is extremely easy to clean and super sharp. This EVO is almost the same, I could not tell any difference. The coating is beautiful and hard. So I have never needed to use lens cap. I just put them on the lenses, shoot, and put back to the bag -- if needed, I simply wipe it with the microfiber cloth. I rate EVO coating over the a little more expensive B+W MRC (I have several MRC UV and CPL), which is already an legendary one.

Pros: Easy to clean, sharp, almost no light loss

Cons: the metal frame seems a little bit not as refined as the B+W MRC

I'm sure the Hoya is a good filter, but the one that was sent to me had been opened and had scratches all over the case - so I can't be sure if it is new. For that reason, I will be sending it back - having bought a camera and lenses from them, I expected more of Crutchfield than this.

Crutchfield response on June 10, 2015 We're sorry that you received a damaged filter. Our Customer Service department will contact you to discuss a return or replacement. Thanks for your review.

Product Research

Overview: The Hoya EVO Circular Polarizing (CIR-PL) filter is designed to eliminate reflections from non-metallic surfaces, such as water and glass. CIR-PL filters also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. The filter's multi-layer coatings reduce ghost images and flare. EVO filters are made in Japan using precision optical glass. The Improved Super Multi-coating (IS-HMC) formula greatly reduces or eliminates reflections off the surface of the glass. The filters are overlayed with a clear water and stain-resistant coating that is easy to clean. All of the coating layers are applied in a furnace to bond the coating to the glass.

Aluminum Filter Frame: Hoya EVO filters have a very low-profile aluminum filter frame to house the glass. This keeps the filter glass perfectly parallel to the plane of the CCD or COS sensor, while providing enough rigidity to last for years.
