Overview

Our take on the Hoya NXT UV Filter

Protect your lens while filtering out the ultraviolet rays in outdoor photos that can contribute to haze. The glass is precision-ground and polished, so you won't have surface imperfections that could distort your images. A rigid, low-profile aluminum frame holds the filter steady against the lens.

This is a low-profile filter with multi-coating. A good quality anti-glare coating is especially important with digital photography.

Protects your lens

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

82mm is quite a bit of surface area for a lens. I bought this with a new lens and saw dust, smudges, and other crud on it in days. A filter will give you peace of mind that this isn't happening on the front element of the lens. Camera's images look good and crisp to me so I never find myself wondering whether the filter is flaring or causing image degradation.

great little (or not-so-little) filter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simply put, it works! Filtering out UV light is more important for film than for DSLRs, but you buy a UV filter to get a clear filter that protects the front-surface of the lens and its coating, and that absorbs impacts and resists scratches. I tend to stick with Hoya probably because of familiarity, but you tend to stick with what works. I've never yet had a problem with Hoya, as they've got a pretty good bang-to-buck ratio. If a dog sticks his wet nose on your camera-lens (or a kid with greasy/sticky fingers), would you rather try cleaning off the front surface of a very expen$ive lens, possibly wearing off more and more of the antireflective coating with each cleaning, or take off a UV filter, clean it at your leisure (even gently using detergent and water and blowing off all the water droplets), and at worst replacing that with a new filter it if gets too beat-up?

Pros: It does exactly what it's supposed to. Optically clean, can't tell any distortion whatsoever due to the filter.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Good value item

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this filter because it represented the middle ground on price and I was not disappointed. It is of good build quality and represents a good value.

Pros: Thin profile when attached to the lens. Thread machining seems precise.

Cons: None.
