Product reviews from the Crutchfield Labs

A welcome "third hand"

Written by Ralph Graves, Staff Writer - Creative, on 7/5/2012 11:21:00 AM

Sometimes when I've taken group shots, there wasn't room for a tripod. And that meant balancing the camera precariously on a deck rail, or a stack of boxes, or some other less-than-ideal solution. This tripod is made for those type of situations.

Because it has three legs, I can stand it on any flat surface — or better still, any irregular surface. I just bend the legs to adjust to the terrain. I can also wrap one or more the legs around something, such as a tree branch, deck rail or fence to place the camera exactly where I want it.

Be advised: the tripod's legs don't bend easily. The joints move stiffly, but that's a good thing. It means the legs will hold the shape I bend them to. I don't have to worry about the tripod slipping off its perch, even if it's holding on by just one leg.
