Features
Overview: The AW2 package includes an iPod Sender (transmitter) and a Receiver; the system is designed to deliver an audio signal wirelessly from the iPod to another component for playback. The AW2 will work with many different components, including (but not limited to) a stereo receiver, A/V receiver, or powered speakers (particularly the Audioengine A5 powered speakers, item number 772A5B or 772A5W, which have a USB port to power the AW2's Receiver).
iPod Sender: The iPod Sender is powered by the iPod's battery through the dock connector. The audio is also transferred via the dock connector, then transmitted wirelessly to the Receiver.
Receiver: The AW2 Receiver is powered through its USB plug; a USB AC power adapter is included with the system, or it can be powered by Audioengine A5 powered speakers' USB port. The audio output is a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack; no audio signal is transferred through the USB connection. A 8" male stereo minijack to female RCA adapter cable is included. A stereo minijack, stereo male minijack to male RCA cable, or a stereo RCA cable is required for connection (sold separately).
Pairing: The Sender and Receiver in this package are linked together at the factory, so no pairing is necessary. If you have other Audioengine systems, multiple Receivers can be paired with the iPod Sender, but the Sender can only transmit to one Receiver at a time.
Transmission: The AW2 transmits uncompressed PCM audio in the 2.4 GHz range using a closed protocol specifically designed for audio. The system avoids interference by constantly monitoring the entire 2.4 GHz spectrum and choosing the channel that can achieve the cleanest transmission. The system detects deteriorating conditions on the current channel and switches if needed in under 20 ms, without any interruption in the audio stream. The AW2 also employs dynamic transmit power control, meaning it transmits with only as much power as required to maintain a clear audio connection. This reduces the power required from the iPod's battery and makes AW2 more forgiving of other 2.4 GHz devices, including WLAN, Bluetooth, and other Audioengine wireless devices.
iPod Compatibility: The AW2 is designed for use with select iPod models having a 30-pin dock connector. Compatible Apple devices and functions as of 11/8/2013.
