Product Research

Features

Add-On Bluetooth Music Receiver: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver enables wireless connection of your Bluetooth-enabled devices (such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC, Mac computer, etc.) to your home entertainment system. Now, you will be able to listen to music files and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled devices on your home stereo system (your home system must have a free stereo analog RCA input or optical digital input).

Bluetooth Version 5.0: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver features Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP support, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio (including stored music and music apps) from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home entertainment system. You will continue to control your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver.

Extended Wireless Range: Most Bluetooth implementations have very limited range (around 33'), usually within just one room. But with careful signal management circuitry and antenna tuning, the Audioengine B1 offer a superior solution that will reach more than one room with no degradation in audio quality. The B1 utilizes special circuitry and a precision-tuned antenna to extend the wireless range to 100+ feet, providing much more versatility and superior sound.

Bluetooth aptX-HD: The Audioengine B1 features aptX-HD coding which is an advanced Bluetooth audio codec that provides much higher-quality sound than previous versions (available in a growing number of Android mobile devices and Mac computers). aptX-HD preserves sound data through the wireless audio transmission, resulting in a "better-than-CD" (24-bit/48kHz) listening experience. The B1 is also backwards-compatible with all previous Bluetooth implementations as well (including aptX [16-bit/44.1kHz], AAC, and SBC), so you can wirelessly stream music from any device and still enjoy outstanding sound.

24-bit Upsampling DAC: The B1 Bluetooth Receiver utilizes a high-performance DAC, widely known for its low noise and high fidelity. The Audioengine B1 is essentially an upsampling 24-bit Bluetooth DAC that will upsample all bit depths internally to 24-bits, thus achieving a higher signal-to-noise ratio. Due to the DAC's high signal-to-noise specs, the fact that the digital signal is converted (upsampled) to 24-bits and the added benefit of triple redundancy power source conversion and filtering, the B1 presents impressive low noise and low distortion characteristics with a noticeable improvement over other Bluetooth devices.

Extended Range: The B1 also has special circuitry and a precision-tuned antenna to extend the wireless range (up to 100'), providing much more versatility than other Bluetooth receivers.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The AudioEngine B1 is fitted with both a stereo RCA analog output and a optical (toslink) digital output to connect to your home AV receiver or integrated amplifier.

LED Indicator: The B1 Bluetooth receiver features a single LED to indicate operation status. If it's on and solid, this means the B1 is powered on and currently connected to a Bluetooth enabled device. If it's on and blinking, this means the B1 is powered on but not currently connected to a device. If it's off (and plugged into power), this means the B1 is powered off (standby) and not connected to a device.

Power Requirements: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver operates off of standard household current using the included external AC power supply or can be powered from a 5V USB port on back of your home receiver (cable included).

Note: The B1 automatically powers down and mutes the output after approximately 10 minutes. The BT input, however, is still active so you can just pair to it again without pressing the front-panel button. B1 will remain on if a device is paired with it and turned on though.

Q
Will the B1 pair and be compatible with my second gen Google Nest Hub?
will  Mar 05, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Will. The B1 is a Bluetooth receiver. It adds the Bluetooth capabilities to devices that do not have Bluetooth. It is connected via a wire into an auxiliary input. if you are needing to add Bluetooth to your Next Hub, it will need to have some type of audio input jack.
hogan  Mar 05, 2024 (Staff)
Q
What is the user experience like when you have multiple devices (phones, tablets, computer, etc) paired and want to switch sources from one device to another?
musicman  Nov 29, 2023
1 answer
A
The Audioengine B1 can connect to only one device at a time, however it will remember up to six devices. The B1 automatically powers down and mutes the output after approximately 10 minutes. The BT input, however, is still active so you can just pair to it again without pressing the front-panel button. B1 will remain on if a device is paired with it and turned on. When switching devices that are currently playing you may need to switch off Bluetooth on those devices, then start playback with your newly connected device.

Q
I have a genesis g506 sound system. Will this product work well with my system??
hollywood  Oct 16, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Greg. Thank you for your question. Not sure what the Genesis g506 system looks like, but if it has RCA in, or at least a 3.5mm input, this B1 will work. It will need AC power as well, cables included.
hogan  Oct 17, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Will this stream High Definition Audio from Tidal or other HD Audio streaming service to my Yamaha A-S701 2 channel amp?
chris  Sep 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Chris. Thank you for your question. Bluetooth does take some bits of information to reduce the file size. Some versions remove more, some versions less. As far as a Bluetooth receiving device, the B1 is a version 5, and supports aptX, and AAC. I use Tidal as well, and with an older version Bluetooth with very good results.

Q
Can I have multiple units for more than one system but all using the same smartphone (not at the same time) - will Bluetooth connection distinguish if there are 2 or even 3 units?
brian  Sep 16, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Brian. Thank you for your question. Bluetooth is point A to point B. One to one in most cases. The cases where you can have multiple point B's is done with an app developed by the manufacture of Bluetooth speakers. The B1 is not a repeater it will only take a signal in from your phones. There are other solutions for your project, like music streamers that use your home network instead of Bluetooth. They can be all grouped together to play the same audio in multiple rooms.

Q
Dear Crutchfield , I have a Onkyo A-RV401 2 channel amplifier. Would the Audioengine B1 work ok with this unit , and where would I plug in the rca cable to ? Sincerely, U. Garcia
uri  Jul 26, 2023
1 answer
A
This Audioengine B1 works great with any unit that has an available RCA input, Uri! Looking at your Onkyo A-RV401's rear panel you have a tape input or a VCR input for RCA analog audio that can be used for the B1 (if you do not have gear already connected to them).

Q
Is the device always on or does it wake up when streaming signal is sent? Iâ??m in a wheelchair and prefer not to have to always get into my chair to go into another room to turn it on.
gary  May 07, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Gary. The B1 automatically powers down and mutes the output after approximately 10 minutes. The BT input, however, is still active so you can just pair to it again without pressing the front-panel button. B1 will remain on if a device is paired with it and turned on though.

Q
Will this device work with my Yamaha A-S801 amp?
william  Feb 26, 2023
1 answer
A
The Audioengine B1 can be used with almost any integrated amplifier as long as either RCA or optical inputs are available. This includes the A-S801.
zachary  Feb 26, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Will this work with a non-Bluetooth Bose Wave 2 or 3?
christopher  Jan 14, 2023
1 answer
A
Possibly Chris, depending on your specific needs. If you are simply looking to add an Audioengine B1 Bluetooth adapter via an available analog RCA input or 3.5mm AUX input you can, provided your Bose gear has those inputs. This would allow you to connect a non-Bluetooth device to a smart Bluetooth source. If you are looking to create groups of speaker devices (multiple Bose speakers OR other gear with traditional RCA inputs) you could also consider using the Audioengine B-fi in the link below. This uses Wi-fi and app control to link and provides a higher sound quality than Bluetooth, and the connection is the same via analog output to your gear. Both are stellar options to get connected! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_772BFI/Audioengine-B-Fi.html

Q
I want to be sure I can connect this via RCA to my Resound P75 with NO need for anything else. I have the P75 in an office with no other receiver or preamp. So can I just go to the P75 then out to speakers?
joe  Nov 20, 2022
1 answer
A
Devices that can transmit audio through Bluetooth typically have their own volume control and as long as your Bluetooth audio source (i.e. smartphone, tablet, portable music player, etc..) has a volume control, then this setup will work without needing a receiver or a preamp
jason  Nov 20, 2022 (Staff)
Q
How many devices can it transmit to at once?
diana  Nov 07, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Diana, and thank you for your question. The Audioengine B1 is a receiver, not a transmitter. It will take audio wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or PC if equipped with Bluetooth, and input that audio into a receiver, amplifier, or powered speakers when neither has Bluetooth built in. Its like adding Bluetooth to an old stereo receiver. if you did find a Bluetooth transmitter, it will usually transmit to one Bluetooth speaker.

Q
Would this allow streaming through a tube pre-amp?
douglas  Sep 11, 2022
1 answer
A
Yes! You could connect this to any sort of pre-amp with RCA or optical inputs including a tube pre-amp.

Q
I have an old stereo system in my basement, I have speakers throughout the house and outside I would like to use my iPhone to play my music. Will your unit work for me when I am using my iPhone outside?
patrick  Jun 16, 2021
3 answers
A
I also have an old receiver in my basement, and I use it to drive some Klipsch outdoor speakers on my patio. It works great for me, but I have a walk out basement and the signal from the cell phone (mine is an Android, but it should not make any difference) is good enough through the walls to where we sit about 40-50 feet away. If your basement is below grade, you might still be able to do it if you use an extended cable from the Audioengine B1 to the receiver and put the device up close to the floor joists or an outside window that is close to your patio. The Audioengine B1 should be able to pick up your phone's transmissions from the next floor up, as long as you are not too far away. There is a limit to everything! Good luck!
michael  Jun 16, 2021
A
It depends on distance and walls. Mine stayed connected to about 100 feet with 2 walls in-between.
dennis  Jun 16, 2021
A
It should work fine as long as you're in range of the device. I've never really test the actual range but I've never had problems walking around my 1/3 acre yard holding my phone while the music is playing inside.

Sorry, I don't have an iPhone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10+. It works like a champ with the Audioengine. We use it to play music from Amazon or SiriusXM while we sit on our patio. The Audioengine is inside in our family room, about 30-40 feet away.

I have been using this for a while. From my iphone 8 with spotify set on the highest quality setting, which is MP3 320 kbs, the sound is good. It is still MP3 but good. For most people this quality will be good enough. Being an audiophile it is not as good as a cd or vinyl on my system but the convenience factor is good. For me I am glad I have this device for a convenient way to connect my iphone to my system and would recommend this product.
chard  May 12, 2021
A
i use my iphone to my home system. click on the audioengine Bluetooth symbol and i have clear/crisp music. Speakers are speakers, we use Bose. likely your speakers and/or corroded wire connections if outside is the problem.

A
I have a I phone 11 and use Spotify. I plug this into the tape jacks on my amplifier. It sounds great. No problems.
paul  May 12, 2021
A
Sounds great with iPhone or iPad. Sometimes it takes some fiddling to get it to connect but that may be a user problem.
dennis  May 12, 2021
A
I have used various sources. My Sony Walkman NWA40 is the primary source...CD quality. I have used the iPhone and iPad to send various music to this unit. The bandwidth on the iPhone/Apple products while acceptable is not audiophile quality. So much depends on the equipment you are attaching this Bluetooth receiver to play through. If it is a high quality component sound system, you will hear the difference when playing a station/music through your iPhone...it just does not have the depth that a DAC or Lossless audio provides. It will be acceptable and clear but limited in dynamic range.
rich  May 12, 2021
A
I think it sounds better than my BluOS which cost twice as much.
david  May 12, 2021

It sounds great. Very crisp and clear. Of course this will also depend on the rest of your setup.

Q
Is it compatible with Alexa?
john  Apr 11, 2021
2 answers
A
Yes - this is how I use it. I have a cheap Echo dot in my kitchen. I hooked up the AudioEngine device to my Denon home stereo system in the family room, which is not Bluetooth capable. Paired the AudioEngine in my Echo account. In the kitchen, I just say "Alexa - connect to Bluetooth device", and it connects. You can disconnect at will by telling Alexa to disconnect from Bluetooth device. That way, when the home stereo is off, you can still hear the Echo dot in the kitchen.
david  Apr 11, 2021
A
I haven't tried to connect it. It connects my iPad to my stereo beautifully tho
matthew  Apr 11, 2021
Q
Is it compatible with Alexa?
john  Apr 11, 2021
1 answer
A
Theoretically, if you can connect your Alexa enabled device via Bluetooth to the Audioengine B1, the Alexa enabled device would provide the output to the Audioengine B1. The Audioengine B1 is a receiver of Bluetooth information sent by a device...it, in turn, is connected--for example via RCA jacks--to your sound system. The Audioengine does not provide Alexa...it is merely a receiver...you would have to provide the Alexa enabled device...which would provide the source of audio information.
rich  Apr 11, 2021
Q
Since it's powered by a 5V usb input, could I use this in a vehicle based reciever-less system? Basically use a 12 volt to 5 volt adapter that's connected to a switched source for power then run the RCAs directly to an aftermarket amp bypassing any radio receiver and only using my tablet to stream through this device?
joseph  Mar 08, 2021
3 answers
A
The answer is yes. I use mine between an auxiliary input on my studio receiver and a single M-Audio BX8A studio monitor I have in my speed shop. I use it to create a true live concert PA system sound by changing the accessibility audio settings on my phone to mono sound and setting the balance to all left or right. It doesn't matter where you are indoors or outdoors as all the sound comes from the one monitor and it sounds amazing! Being able to control the tracks and volume from my phone is cool. Also the sound of the unit does improve as described in the manual during the break-in period. Enjoy.
reginald  Mar 23, 2021
A
While we have not tested the B1 in a car environment, I agree with Dennis that if you can provide it proper power through its USB cable/input, then it should work. We offer adapters made for the vehicle that even provide the 12V trigger that some amps need to turn on to play. Here's one with better sound through the Bluetooth: www.crutchfield.com/p_161ACXBT1/item.html
jason  Mar 22, 2021 (Staff)
A
It says yes, so if you get a 5 volt supply to the usb it should work. It works great with a tablet of phone.

Q
Will this work with a McIntosh 252 intergrated amp ?
kevin  Feb 05, 2021
4 answers
A
I am not familiar with that particular integrated amp, but the Audioengine website states that it can be connected to any audio product with a standard analog audio input. Mine is connected to a Marantz integrated amp which is not at the same level as the McIntosh, but it works perfectly. I am delighted with the sound quality of music when I stream music from my Tidal HiFi subscription service.
david  Feb 06, 2021
A
Your MA252 McIntosh has two unbalanced inputs on the back. The Audio Engine comes with RCA plugs. You could chose unbalanced 1 or 2 and plug into those...left and right. The Audio Engine is a Bluetooth receiver. You would be able to connect any Bluetooth capable device (Sony Walkman HD, iPhone, etc). I am not sure that the audio engine B1 would have the bandwidth you are expecting as Bluetooth is limited. I am running mine through a McIntosh C27 preamp and McIntosh 7270 amp using a Sony DAC Walkman. The sound is equal to a CD using a top end player. It is not equal to the type of sound from vinyl or Lossless sound; however, to my ears (and they are old) it sounds great.
rich  Feb 05, 2021
A
I would think so. I have all Mc gear and it works great. I also have the much more expensive/ high end Bluesound , and the Audioengine out performs it.
david  Feb 05, 2021
A
Yes. It should. The B1 has RCA analogue outputs and comes with rca cables and you could connect it to an RCA in to your amp such as a cd or aux in via rca cable. It also has an optical digital output so if your amp has an optical digital input you could connect it this way too.

Q
Can this be used to connect a Definative technology Studio W sound bar to a Denon S 750h AVR?
alexander  Jan 31, 2021
2 answers
A
Unfortunately this will not be able to wirelessly connect a sound bar to an AVR. The Audioengine B1 adapter is a Bluetooth music receiver that allows you to send Bluetooth signal from a phone or computer to your existing non-Bluetooth enabled home entertainment system. Give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and we'll be happy to see if we have a better solution!
allison  Feb 17, 2021 (Staff)
A
I don't think so. You need something with a screen to choose the DAC under Bluetooth. It connects my iPhone and iPad to my receiver, but not my beats headphones.
matthew  Feb 15, 2021
Q
Can I use this device with powered Jbl speakers?
raymond  Dec 26, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes. It has a line out which can connect to the line in to powered speakers. It is a fantastic, well-made, high fidelity product. The audio quality is better than using a direct wired in to my receiver since it takes high-quality audio signal via latest blue tooth technology. And you get remote volume control as an extra benefit by using the volume control on the device such as you phone.

Q
can i connect my audio engine A5 speakers to theB1 and play music wirelessly from my phone or laptop?
joe  Dec 20, 2020
4 answers
A
I would think that you could although you would need a cord that transfers the signal from the 2 RCA outlets on the B1 to a mini plug. Don't know what impact that might have on sound quality. Have been using mine for a couple years and am impressed with the sound quality.
david  Dec 20, 2020
A
I have 3 of the B1s and the work great. I am not familiar with the A5 speakers , so not sure.

Q
Can I connect the Audioengine B1 to my older Yamaha receiver RX-V3800? Not sure what ports to connect it to.
kevin a  Dec 19, 2020
4 answers
A
You have two choices. It will connect to either a digital optical (toslink) or left/right analog RCA inputs. I guess it depends on your preference or what you have open. I think it will connect to most anything. I connected mine to a 2006 Yamaha RX-397 stereo receiver through the RCA aux audio inputs. It's simple to use, sounds very good, and has no problem picking up the signal even from the opposite corner of the house.
mark  Dec 20, 2020
A
You have 2 options: you can use the RCA connectors that come with the Audioengine and plug it into one of your Audio RCA (L/R white/red) inputs. Maybe the MD/Tape In (play) plugs? The other option is to purchase an optical cable (Toslink) and connect that from the Audioengine into one of your optical digital inputs - maybe input 5 labeled BD/HD-DVD since it's unlikely you're using those inputs.
peter  Dec 20, 2020
A
Yes. Use a pair of rca cables from the B1 to an audio input on your receiver such as cd, tape, or aux in.
chard  Dec 20, 2020
A
Yes. Using RCA jacks from the Audio Engine to any input to your receiver-just not the phono input-just select that input to hear what you are playing (like your Walkman or iPhone etc. )-I hooked it up to an older Marantz integrated amp through Aux1-no problem as it is like connecting a CD player. Just link your device to the Audio Engine.

It should let you connect to any device with bluetooth capability. I use an iPhone 7 and an iPad to stream music through an older Pioneer receiver. I used the optical output for the connection. It sounds great and the bluetooth range is excellent. Hope this helps.

Will I be able to control the volume through this device when I'm on the deck or in the yard? I will be hooking up to an older Onkyo 5.1 receiver via rca.

You have to control the volume through the device you're using to Bluetooth ( cell phone , iPad for example)

No. The volume would be controlled by your receiver.

You will be able to control the volume if you are playing your music from a device with volume control such as your phone. The only other way to control the volume would be through your receiver.

mario  Jun 16, 2020
A
Yes, if the device that you are using to send your Bluetooth signal has a volume control you will be all set!
bob  Jun 16, 2020
A
If the Bluetooth music source (like an iPhone) allows the volume to be controlled - which is likely - then you will be able to control the volume by simply turning down the volume on the iPhone. But you also need to be aware of the distance between the Bluetooth device and the B1. I'm probably 20-25 feet away when I am on my deck and I can reliably stream to the B1 which is sitting in a closet with my receiver. If your distance is longer - or if you have obstacles between your Blouetooth source and the B1, your results may not be as good.

Probably not, it functions more like a pre-amp. Not enough power for most wired speakers unless they are very small. You could run sound to Bluetooth speakers or headphones.

I am looking for a way to play music from my phone or tablet via Bluetooth through a complex wired sound system in my home. The amp has options for tape 1, tape 2, tuner, CD, and phono. I can't tell how I would hook this device up to this system. How do I know if it will connect?

Hi, I have mine connected to the CD analog input and it works very well on both my phone and iPad. The sound quality is also amazing and audio doesn't drop out. It's a great product.
fabiano  Oct 28, 2019
A
It is quite simple and for me I would miss this big if I would no longer have it. I've hooked up three systems all through standard music or multimedia amps to traditionally wired speakers. When connected you control the sound on your amp just as you would if it were a CD player or tuner. I would hook it up to any of those you mention but would shy away from the "phono" input. Use the RCA cables supplied with this device to plug in to the amp at the "CD" inputs for instance to the back of the amp just as if it were a CD player. Plug the B1's power cited into a 120v outlet at your wall or at the amp. Follow the simple instructions supplied with the B1and it's done quick and easy. This is the perfect unit in my perspective in that it's sound quality is better than less expensive models and to increase the quality from this point it takes too much extra dollars. You'll get it without issue I bet and love it. I listen mostly to jazz and classical along with eclectic mixes of blues and rock and the quality is real good.
john  Oct 28, 2019

The B1 has Left and Right out RCA jacks, and an optical out. With the input choices that you have I would probably just run 2 RCA cables into one of the tape inputs and get ready to love your music all over again. I'm not saying that's the only way to hook it up, but that would be easy and the cables are included with the B1. Hope that helps.
william  Oct 28, 2019
A
You can easily hook it up, w/any of those inputs ~ it has a Toslink output6, as well as L/R RCA outputs. I run both of mine simultaneously, so that I can switch inputs, and thus change DACs
kevin lee  Oct 28, 2019
A
This will connect to your CD port or Aux port. This hook up was simple and fast. The sound quality blew me away and gets better the more you use it. I plug my iPhone iPad into it all the time. Greatest product I have ever purchased.

Just connect the two RCA jacks on the back of the Audioengine to CD on your receiver. I use an iPhone and it works great. If you connect a different BlueTooth device then want to go back to using your iPhone you would need to un-install the connection on your iPhone then re-install it again.

If your mixer accepts RCA or digital audio connectors, it should. I send signal from a tablet to the Audioengine and from there to my receiver. Going to your mixer first should be the same.

Hi Bill! Thanks for your question. The AudioEngine B1 has both a stereo RCA analog output and a optical digital output to connect to your home audio gear. If you have either of those connections, this device will allow you to wirelessly stream audio from your phone t your mixer. Chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. Yes, Bluetooth from iPhone and then this will connect into your audio device. Connections can be a little buggy if you're switching between different phones in your family. But you'll get a hang of it. Sound quality (if connecting to a good audio setup) and range is outstanding.

Q
By using the digital out/Toslink, you are 'keeping it digital' and bypassing the AE B1's DAC, correct? In other words if i have a DAC that i want to use, is that how i would want to connect it? Or is this too much product for my needs? Thank you!
jesse  Jul 28, 2019

That is correct and have read feedback of others doing that, if you have a preferred DAC of your own. The B! has an excellent DAC built in also, but it's your preference. Also, some receivers may have built in DAC for the Toslink inputs. I have run optical Toslink from a TV directly into the optical inputs of a Denon receiver with no DAC in between. Check your manual.
john  Aug 10, 2019
A
The following is from the B1's website: B1 also functions as a wireless audio bridge from your device to your favorite DAC or preamp. Use the internal DAC with RCA analog outputs or connect the optical output into another DAC. Hope this helps with your question, Sam

My receiver is inside the house and my speakers are mounted to the wall outside. I would be about 30-40 away on the opposite side of the wall from the adapter. Will this device still be in range of my phone?
robert  Jun 12, 2019

This is a very vague question. The dynamics of your receiver, what type of wall, the quality of your speakers. I reside in a condo and there are solid concrete walls; sometimes I get a break in the signal but it's only for a few seconds. The type of speakers and its frequency response. Your speakers are your weakest link for your signal. My adapter I simply love thanks to Garrett ... the genius. I have a Denon receiver with Kef speakers working from my iPhone XR. As far as your signal that also depends on your source which is your phone , your amp, through the adapter, finally to your speakers. Hopefully this info is of some help. ??

The pairing process is as follows. I turn on Bluetooth, for example on my smartphone, and "Audioengine B1" appears in a list of paired devices. I select it and the phone is connected immediately. The process is very consistent and nearly instantaneous but there is no provision that I can see to name the receiver and apply a password.

The Audioengine hasn't shown me a password.Hope that helps

It should be, as it connects via two standard RCA phono plugs; I have it connected directly to my Rega Elex-R amplifier (along with my Denon 3910, which I use only for audio/SACD), and it works beautifully.

jef  Jul 23, 2018

Absolutely it's compatible. As long as you have a spare audio input (aux, tape, etc) or a spare digital input (optical). Just run the cable from the Audioengine B1 to your receiver's input and you're ready to go.
christopher  Jul 22, 2018
A
Your receiver seems to be a 5.1 system, which means five separate audio channels plus subwoofer. The Audioengine B-1 is stereo, which means two channels: right and left. You could use it with your receiver but you will not get five-channel surround sound, you will get two-channel stereo.
glenn  Jul 22, 2018
A
Yes it is I hook mine up to almost anything using rca connection, it sounds great.
douglas  Jul 22, 2018

Hi Thomas. The audioengine B1 is compatible in that it will work with your Denon. I use it with a JVC from the 1990s. But it is just a stereo Bluetooth device. It works the same just like a stereo cassette or FM stereo broadcast would work with your receiver. By itself the audio engine does not have any multiple Channel, or special encoding,. It's just stereo and your receiver will distributed amongst the five speakers anyway that it chooses to. As far as THX goes, I don't know the answer.
alann  Jul 22, 2018

Q
can I listen to music through wireless bluetooth headphones using this device if plugged into my vintage system?
thomas c  Mar 17, 2018
4 answers
A
Hi, I am not sure I understand your question. The Audioengine B1 is connected to the input such as AUX on your receiver. It needs to receive a Bluetooth signal from a source. For example I use my iPad to get programming from the internet. The Audioengine then picks up what I have chosen and feeds it to the receiver. Your Bluetooth headphones would link directly to the iPad. I do not think the Audioengine would be involved.
john  Mar 29, 2018
A
Not really sure if it works in reverse like that
steve  Mar 26, 2018
A
I don't think so. This device is a receiver, not a transmitter. It's purpose is to connect, via bluetooth, a source of music, such as your smartphone or a tablet, to your hifi system.
glenn  Mar 25, 2018
A
I do not know, but I think not. The audioengine B1 is a Bluetooth receiver , not transmitter . Your wireless Bluetooth headphones should have a receiver built into it to receive signals from your smartphone or whatever. If you instruct your smartphone to connect to your wireless headphones you should be able to hear Pandora Etc music . The audioengine B1 is also a receiver and when you instruct your smartphone to connect to it it receives the Pandora music and plugs it into your vintage receiver by way of RCA pin plug cables , so you can hear it on speakers . If you plug ordinary headphones into your receiver you can hear the music through those headphones. To get music from your vintage receiver to your Bluetooth headphones I think you need a audio to digital converter that also transmits Bluetooth and hook that to your receiver. Hope this helps. I do not own Bluetooth headphones so I cannot test for you.

According to Audioengine's web site's Q&A: What if my source doesn't support aptX®? Can I still use B1 and if so, how will it sound? You can absolutely still use the B1, and it will sound great. aptX® is a high quality Bluetooth audio codec that works really well. With that said, in addition to mandatory support for SBC, Bluetooth also includes optional support for many other codecs, like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AAC, all of which have their own advantages, and some of which sound very close to aptX®. With that said, there is a good chance that your audio data will be transmitted to the B1 without getting encoded to SBC. Unfortunately, I don't know how it can be verified.
