iffy - sometimes nice and sometimes not so nice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good out of the box but a year into this and warranty has expired, this unit works when it wants to. Installed in a jacked-up Jeep Wrangler with 35's may be to much for it. If I hit a good bump it can blast, but also if I hit a good bump, it can go out completely or only half power with a distorted sound. I feel it may be time to abort this sub and get an upgrade. On the positive side, this unit is compact and doesn't take up a lot of space.

Pros: compact design, easy to install, remote gain control

Cons: works sometimes

Only so-so

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I expected better. Not a super bone-jarring, fat-jiggling mega bass, but certainly a tighter thump than the muddy rumble that now sits behind my seat. You can do better, so keep looking... I got this to fill out the low-end in my commuter car (very short commute) without spending a lot or using up valuable space. Doesn't so much do that for most music as wash out the low-end with either too much rumble or not enough bass. I intended this to go under the passenger seat of my Subaru Outback, but it does not fit--even though it was supposed to. So, it now sits behind the seat and under the floor mat, so mostly hidden, but I do need to remove it on rare occasions when I have three passengers. I probably should have returned this but that felt like giving up on ever getting bass in that car without a lot more effort and expense. I did find that turning this thing upside down and playing a lot with the phase greatly improved the sound. I had to make a little stand for it so there is about a 1.5" gap between the floor and the speaker grill. I have really liked the Sound Ordnance amplifier I have (M-4075). Just a fantastic value and still can't believe the power I get from the bridged rear channel to a subwoofer. Dang, wish I could have done that for this car.

Pros: small(ish) package with integrated amp sounds way better upside down

Cons: doesn't sound near enough as good as it should not as small or thin as you might think

Perfect little Sub. I wanted a bit more bass without major cost or having to install an amp and a sub unit. This was the perfect solution. It is installed behind the passenger seat of a 2001 Mazda MX-5 and the fit is perfect. Installation was very easy since the battery is in the rear of the car. Great little box!!!

Pros: Size, ease of install, flexibility with the remote volume control, sound quality is great

Cons: not booming bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what this thing is, I was amazed at the quality of sound that came from it. I have to be honest, when my advisor recommended this, I was skeptical. However, the price was low enough and the Crutchfield return policy is good enough to give it a try. My equipment: I'm running this from a Kenwood KIV-BT901head unit in a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab using the RCA sub out and the amplifier power control wire. Anyone who knows anything about a Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab is that there is a very limited space to install equipment. Your options are a form fit sub box under the back seats or under the drivers seat. Dodge put the tire repair jack under the passenger seat. This fit perfectly under the drivers seat. I ran a 6" ground from the drivers seat rail bolt and all the wiring through the precut hole in the carpet for the power seat controls. The sound: It's not a competition band pass box, so don't expect super lows and nosebleed bass. Once I set the subwoofer crossover information on my head unit (80Hz@ 18dB/octave slope), I followed sound ordinance's guidance for setup. The sound is amazing for what I listen to (Metal, Hard Rock, and some more Pop type stuff when my wife is in the car). It compliments my highs/midrange well and doesn't distort at high volumes.

Pros: 1. Extremely small size fits great under my trucks driver seat; 2. Easy install and setup; 3. Affordable bass addition

Cons: Looking at this item for what it is and what it is intended for, I can't legitimately find anything wrong with it. The manufacturer clearly states the frequency range at 80-200Hz which is not deep bass. Understanding this will give you a better idea of what you're buying. Compare it to a really nice computer subwoofer but better.

Just what I was looking for

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you're looking for earth shattering bass that people hear a block away go buy something else. If you're looking for a great little powered sub to enhance the sound quality in your vehicle and get that extra punch out of things this is EXACTLY the product you are looking for. I am a 42 year old man that enjoys, rock, metal, country, hip hop, jazz, etc, etc and I found this little sub to make it all sound that much better in my vehicle. I have also NEVER installed anything in any vehicle I've owned out of fear but this was truly easy. I had to call Crutchfiled Support once and they were AMAZING!

Pros: - easy installation - good price - good bass for unit

Cons: - didn't fully fit underneath my car seat

Good sound and fits into small spaces

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a small powered subwoofer to install in a 370z Roadster. This one was just the right size but still not able to fit under a seat. I was very surprised to find that there was absolutely no hardware included to actually mount the unit. I'm assuming that they figure you will just press fit it under your seat.

Pros: Nice tight base sound.

Cons: No mounting hardware. This should be noted in the description.

New 8" sub

First, I have been impressed with Crutchfield's aftercare. I called for help and the technician was excellent. The product has been great. Very simple install, easy setup and a pleasure to listen to in the car. So far, I would recommend this product.

Pros: Size, price and easy to install. It rounds out factory speakers pretty well.

Cons: If you enjoy bone rattling low bass, this is not for you; however, if you have a daily driver with children, and a passion for music, then this is for you. Super low bass just is not there.

Paired with the current system I installed myself thanks to Crutchfield's Master Sheets (Alpine CDE-HD138BT receiver Boston Acoustics SC 65 front 746 back) in my 2000 Silverado. It is the perfect compliment to an already quality sound system with hard, clean, steady bass. Placed in the back, under the seat, it is neatly hidden, but lets the listener know immeadiately that it means business.

Pros: Small compact powerful priced right

Mediocre

Written by: Nooly from Iowa on May 14, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit based on the positive reviews, and for the ease of installation of a powered subwoofer. This product sounds ok when there's no road noise, but once you get moving it's hard to hear without cranking it up. The problem then is you have a noticeable amount of distortion. The product fit underneath my passenger seat, which made installation fairly simple. Unfortunately, the end result is what I would consider less than satisfactory. I purchased this unit so I wouldn't have to build a custom enclosure for my application. I almost wish now that I had gone a different direction.

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Too much distortion when it's turned up enough to hear it over the road noise

Great Boom for the Buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this powered sub mainly because of price and size. It is connected to the factory JBL sound system in my 2004 Toyota Tundra Double Cab and really packs a punch. I installed it under the driver's seat and was able to fit it in w/o losing the rear-mounted heat ducts which seems to be pretty common w/ this location. The installation was a snap, but I couldn't have done it w/o the help of EdB in Tech Support. He sent me a wiring diagram and pics of my interior that allowed me to tap into my factory-installed amp behind the back seat, instead of the head unit behind the dash. That alone saved me TONS of time and helped me get it done much quicker than I had expected. I've yet to "tune" the sub correctly, but I'm definitely happy w/ the results I'm already experiencing!

Pros: Price, size, bang for the buck

Cons: None that I've experienced

Seriously Confused About the Positive Reviews

Written by: Christopher from United States on May 9, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ok, wait, no, this is SOOO NOT OK... Do yourself a favor and Look Elsewhere for something different - This S.O. Sub is just that nothing but - SUB-STANDARD Scenario: - Sony BT4000P Aftermarket Head Unit w/ Factory Speakers (not the Rockford System) in a 2006 xTerra - Head Unit has option for "Rear Base Enhancement" which essentailly converts your rear speakers through sound processing into pseudo-subs - obviously on a basic oem factory speaker system this doesn't do much and you tend to bottom out your rears - if not blow them - though it does give a nice thump at low volumes - Head Unit also has full control over Dedicated SUB-PreAmp Out - including gain control, phase control & cross-over points So, you're wondering: "Why is he writing about the head unit?" The RBE option with factory speakers (no actual sub) puts out more base then this sub does when it is totally maxed out and everywhere in-between - except at very low listening (volume) levels. I bought this to replace a VERY old Kenwood 8" Self Powered (30w RMS - 60w Max) Sub Tube which I recently installed in my system which had 20x the bass but sadly due to its age the surround disintegrated from dry-rot but even with the Completely Blown Sub it has more punch then this...

Pros: Not sure there are any... Nice Form Factor?

Cons: Might as well not exist - ZERO - Added bass except at max settings at very low volumes...

Best compact sub out there

Written by: Strick daddy from NC on May 6, 2013

Best sub for your money, I've researched a lot on subs. but i have a truck and want to keep my seats open, so my options are very limited. After months of research I found a sub that a lot of people were talking about and that had great reviews. I bought this subwoofer and installed it, turn the sound up(country, soft/hard rock) and it kicked! I have a crew cab so my truck is purdy big and it sounded as good as my friends 10 in JL. Its not over powering but its smooth and packs a good punch

Pros: Has lots of power for a 8in sub

Cons: none

I own an 02 Jeep Wrangler. I installed an alpine player and polk speakers from Crutchfield at x-mas time. After the install my factory "sub" stopped playing. After much debating I settled on this sub as my solution. I couldnt be happier with my choice. My music varies greatly from mine to my wifes and my young daughter. Some people mention it not being a "rattler" but it will shake my mirror without trouble. Plays rap, metal, punk, rock, hip hop, dance, and country all with out issue. mounted the volume control inside my center armrest console. As others have stated it is a bummer about not having mounting tabs, i have it under my rear seat and the fit is tight enough i dont think it'll go anywhere. Used the efx 10 gauge wiring kit, for a flawless install.

Pros: small size, awesome sound

Cons: no mounting tabs

Fits perfect in front of Passenger Footwell 2011 Expedition

Written by: Vincentesq from CA on May 6, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2011 Ford Expedition. I upgraded all four speakers to Infinity and a Kenwood Nav. The sound was missing Bass because this model did not have a subwoofer. I had considered the Bazooka because I have had 2 of those in the past cars, and they were great. On the recommendation of Crutchfield, I purchased this, and WOW! It fits perfectly under the carpet of the passenger footwell. I have a corded control so I can control the bass volume, and at 9 o'clock setting (1/4 of total), the bass is perfect! Turning this to the 12 o clock position gives me heart pounding bass! Compared to the Bazooka, this is just as good. I listen to all types of music, including pops and hip hop. I would highly recommend this, and have just purchased another one for my Lexus Ls 430.

Pros: Compact and fits almost everywhere! Easy installation!

Cons: None that I can think of.

Cons: No cons.

The Boomin' System

Written by: TrevorL from Quartz Hill, CA on April 29, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This system was the perfect fit for my ol' beat up Pickup Truck! The unit mounted right under the passenger seat and the cables under the door trim, through the dash and to the head unit. I drilled a hole in one of the dash 'pop-outs' and mounted the bass level adjuster. I can turn down the bass when I want to listen to the sports talk and pump it back up when I want to bob my head and tap my foot. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy installation! Everything mounted easily.

Cons: Had to remove the bench seat. I had never done that before--nothing wrong with the product.

Sound Ordnance Subwoofer

Written by: Mark R from Houston, TX on April 27, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit first of all came a day early which was awesome. This is the second order in a row that came early from these guys. The sub was exactly as described and has worked great. I have 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant and it really balanced out my upgraded factory speakers and head unit. The front speakers are 5 1/4's and the back are 6 x 9's. I set the crossover point for the sub woofers to just under 200 Hz and the other speakers to just above 180 Hz. The reason I mention this is because I spent a lot of time trying to find the 'peak' crossover point. This works really well for all types of music.

Pros: Beautiful bass and perfect size

Cons: This is an 8" sub woofer that works great in the confined space of the car. If you want the sound that makes your teeth rattle out of your head and annoy other drivers, you might want to use something else.

2012 F350 Standard Cab 4x4. First off like others have said if you want to shatter windows this isn't for you. However in the small standard cab not alot of area to fill. I was supprised for an 8" it does real well. Was the perfect filler for a stock system to get some bottem end. I placed it under my seat wish it had some kinda of mounting system other then velcrow.

Pros: Better then expected for size and power, Great for vehicles for litte to no free space.

Cons: No real mounting options, Took off one star for no mounting options. Other wise pretty nice all in one.

I decided to purchase this sub to add much needed bass to my factory system without sacrificing space. I had it installed by a professional along with a new head unit and I have to say I am very impressed! I listen to mostly rock music but when I turn on hip hop it makes my rear view mirror vibrate. At the current price, it's a great value!

Pros: Sound, takes up very little space

Cons: None so far. Those who say it doesn't sound good must be using a factory head unit or expecting it to sound like two 10s in a box.

Perfect Compact Sub for a Compact SUV

Written by: Scott from Sacramento, CA on April 18, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ideal for what it is, an ultra compact under the seat 8" subwoofer (if you want to call it that). I have not heard other under seat subs, but i would imagine they're not much better than the Sound Ordnance and cost more $$$. I traded my Accord last year (2012) for a new Forester and didn't want to lose cargo space with one of those big, bulky/box subs...the B-8PT model fit the bill perfectly. Plus as i get older, i no longer need the deafening 1000 watt system you can hear a mile away, lol. I had an Infinity BassLink II (a powered 250 watt 10" sub) in my Accord and the B-8PT doesn't perform the same way, and i didn't expect it to. Instead, like a few other commenters have said, the B-8PT has a tight and punchy type bass. Overall, with most of the music i listen to i'm very satisfied with this sub given the price and its compact size...it would be very hard to beat this package. I got mine for $, recycled my Scosche wiring kit from the Infinity sub I had, and paid for the install...not bad for the total price installed. The way the bass performs of course depends a lot on how the music you listen to was recorded, but overall if you're looking for a compact, out of the way sub that will add some really really nice solid lows to your stock sterero, look no further, the B-8PT is a true performer. Like others have said this is not going to shake the doors off your car, but you will definitely feel the bass of course. I have mine under the passenger seat.

Pros: Affordability, strong bass for most music, compact size fits perfectly under my Forester's passenger seat, fun packaging it was shipped in, and just the right amount of power to match with my completely stock stereo.

Cons: Volume knob doesn't have an LED light to see it at night, i've had just a few (maybe three) songs where the sub made the song sound muddled and the bass was overwhelming and hard to listen to causing me to change the song (the settings are good for all other songs though, so that can't be the problem)...very minor, and not enough of an issue for me to knock my rating down to four stars.

Sound Ordnance Does It's Job

Written by: paryted from Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey on April 15, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have this Sub hooked up to a new Alpine media player head unit. The install was straight forward. I put this system in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler because especially when the roof is in the garage during the summer months the sound quality of the stock system is horrible. This addition to my new install makes the kappa speakers installed in the stock spots sound really nice. The audio controls on the sub make it easy to fine tune the sound. They are easily accessible, you do not need a tiny screwdriver to make your adjustments. Overall it's a great product

Pros: Small size, Easy access to the control knobs, Remote control knob that mounts with you to quickly raise or lower the overall volume,

Cons: No spot to actually put screws as to really mount the amp. It comes with a strip of Velcro to attach the sub which I feel is a downer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 1991 Porsche 944 cabriolet. Even though it has the "upgraded" audio speaker system, it really lacked bass. I had recently upgraded the headunit to a JVC KW-NT3HDT. I upgraded the door speakers as best I could as they only take 5 1/4" drivers. The rears are 4x6 plate speakers. As you can imagine, not much bass. My car has the back seat installed, so no where to install a sub there. I never really heard of Sound Ordnance before but most people seemed okay with them. I bought this unit hoping it would fit under the seat. It did not, even with the seat raised to the highest position. I really did not want to put it in the trunk as it is not the most powerful sub in the world, plus my trunk is small. I ended up modifying some 4" L brackets from Home Depot and installed it under the glove box. It does drop about 2" into the passenger foot well. I left all the settings on the unit in a 'neutral' position as I could control everything from the headunit including the level and crossovers. Once installed I fired it up and man what a difference it makes. This is not going to rattle your windows, but that is not what I was looking for anyway. It nicely fills in that sound gap that was missing with my factory speakers and I could not be more pleased. It would have been ice if they included some way to install the unit other than just putting it on the floor of the vehicle. No brackets, no screw holes, nothing. A big oversight in my opinion.

Pros: Small size, reasonable price, solid construction.

Cons: Auto on feature only works with speaker level inputs not line level, so you have to use the remote turn on wire. The manual is virtually useless. It would be nice if it included some detailed sound tweaking advice regarding the unit's settings and capabilities. The unit does not come with any brackets or even screw holes to attach it which I found odd and disappointing.

Installed this in the cargo area of my 2005 CRV. It would have barely fit under the driver side seat, but I didn't want to sacrifice the rear foot room, or obstruct the heating duuct outlet located there. No matter, it sounds great where it is, even with the roll-up cargo cover extended. As many others have stated, it rounds out the low end nicely, especially in my system with all 6.5" door speakers. But it won't rattle your windows - just nice clean bass. It did take some time to "dial in" properly, given all the controls on the subwoofer as well as the sub controls on my Kenwood head unit. I recommend installing the remote volume knob, as it provides very convenient fine tuning on the fly. I put the knob unit in the samll flip-open cubby in the lower center of the dash. One minor complaint, the only way to anchor the unit is with the supplied velcro strips. The velcro strips stayed stuck to the floor carpet and separated from the adhesive the first time I tried to move it.

Pros: compact size, performance, good controls

Cons: mounting scheme

This is actually my second one of these powered subs I purchased through Crutchfield (first one went in my Mazda B2300 pickup. It is perfect where space is limited such as it is in Jeep Wranglers. Easy to install, plenty of power & easily heard when the softtop is down. Love this sub!

Pros: Strong sound & can take a pretty good beating.

Easy to install behind the seat of a 2011 Silverado Crew cab. Sounds great. A little delay on the turn on using high level inputs from the rear speaker leads. I am not sure if it is a capacitor charging, or the volume just has to be moderatly loud to turn it on. I will update when I hook up the remote line. However it is a great addition to the stock radio.

Pros: Size, sound, volume

Cons: Turn on delay.

BETTER THAN YOU THINK

This is a cool unit! Its small and light for being an all in one unit (subwoofer-amp-enclosure) This guy here is only 120 watts but ir will do the trick, it will surprise you, it will out perform itself in real life vs specs on paper! I put this in a 99 chevy s10 truck with single cab. i installed it right behind the driver seat and it is all good from there. I also installed an Kenwood head unit along with this and the pair are "two peas in a pod". This Sound Ordnance unit will not rattle your vehical but will provide a good "hit" in bass that you will notice. Do NOT put this in a TRUNK of a car and expect to feel the bass something great cause you wont. INSTEAD put it under your driver or passenger seat (if you have a car), or under your driver, passenger or "bench" seat (if you have extended cab truck), or behind/under your driver/passneger seat (if you have single cab truck) and you will love what you have created. This unit is for someone who wants a simple hassle free bass package, wants to round off the current sytem they have with a range from "balance" to "a nice little bumb", and someone who may or may not be tight on available space. This unit is NOT for someone being cheap trying spend less money expecting to get glass shattering bass. If you want that go another direction now, perhaps a "ALPINE" mono amp (500watts minimum) with either "ROCKFORD FOSGATE PUNCH" subwoofer(s), or an "ALPINE SWE", or the "ALPINE SWS" subwoofer(s) and you will be better suited.

Pros: "ALL TOGETHER UNIT" "OUTPERFORMS ITSELF" "GREAT PRICE" "PERFECT FOR TIGHT SPACES" "LIGHT WEIGHT"

Cons: NONE THUS FAR. IT IS DOING THE JOB IT WAS MADE TO DO WITH A LITTLE EXTRA

Easy to connect but large dia power wire (ie 10 ga) causes hold down screw and washer to short out on case (ie sparks). Also, not very loud. Hard to hear bass unless system cranked up REALLY loud...even then not very loud.

Pros: easy ro install and small size fits

Cons: dont like 12V+ screw and washer being so close to case (ie grounds out with sparks). also bass is very subtle (hardly hear it)

I have a 2012 Rav4 and stock HU, and may eventually get better speakers, but for the time being I just needed something to fill in the gaps and also something that would fit in the cavity space in the back underneath (my spare is on the back of the car). This seems to have fit the bill. It's a great size and the sound has been really good so far, I mostly listen to rock and pop, some heavy metal, some country.

Pros: Great small size

Cons: Couldn't go under the seat which might be a con for some, but since I have the extra storage space in the back, it wasn't a problem for me.

i was looking for a small subwoofer setup that still had some kick to it and the S/O powered sub moore than exceeded my expectations. Perfectly compact that it can fit in plenty of spaces other subs cant, easily removable and of course plenty of bass (not taking the system to capacity it still makes my hatchback shake!). The sound is crisp and clear, little to no distortion plus the bass controller that is included provides you with that little extra to fine tune your sound. Great setup for someone who is looking for just a little bit moore bump to their sound!

Pros: great sound, wont take up much space and can fit in plenty of small spaces, the bass controler is a huge plus in fine tuning your sound

Great Powered Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really great powered sub. It's very small and fits right under my seat. It puts out really clean, crisp base. Very surprising since the sub is only a 8". It's nothing that's going to blow the doors off but is perfect if you are looking to add some base to your system. If you are looking for something to pick up low base like in rap, this may not be for you, as it can't grab the lows very well since it's only an 8". But if what you normally listen to has higher base, this is perfect. It's easy to install and the external power level is nice to have. The only thing negative is that it does not have any mounting brackets. So you can't mount it to the back of the cab or to the floor. It may slide around which it does under my seat sometimes. Other than that, I'm very happy with it.

Pros: Price, Power, Small Size, Easy to install

Cons: No mounting brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great fit for a pick-up cab whether it's standard, king or crew. Hides great under my Nissan frontier seat. Did not have to mod anything in the interior. Compliments my Alpine 6.5's great. Mid punch is great, however, 40 HZ and below is not noticable. 50 t0 100 HZ is great with gain all the way up and sub level turned almost all the way up on receiver. I am happy with the sound now but this amp only makes me wish I would have gotten a stand alone amp and a boxed 10. I think for a powered sub that pretty much no work went into to put in, the value is awesome and the sound OK.

Pros: Hides neatly, great sound in small truck cab only, takes up no space at all if installed under the seat, controls easy to get to, seperate gain control you can install in console or under dash

Cons: not loud enough, will make you want a 10, no place for mounts only velcro

Hands down the best 8" sub I have heard in a pickup truck. I have a standard 2002 Toyota Tacoma with no cab. This things fits snug under my seat and has great power. Actually the amount of bass this sub puts out exceeded my expectations. It even hits some of the lows you would expect to hear from a 10" or 12" sub. I also have a great pioneer head unit which helps a lot, but this is one of the best powered subs your going to find for the price.

Decent bass, but not as impressive as the B-8P

Written by: CarlL from Auburndale, FL on March 11, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this powered subwoofer for use in my Dodge Ram Quad Cab. It is very compact and fits sideways under the driver's seat which puts all of the adjustment controls visible when the driver's door is open. I did not use the rotary control knob because the Kenwood head unit I have it attached to has subwoofer level controls built into it. I hooked the subwoofer up using the RCA connectors and it is hooked directly to the battery of the truck for power. Overall, I'm not really too impressed especially compared to the Sound Ordnance B-8P I had in my previous vehicle. The subwoofer started out really boomy and lowering the levels down did help a lot, but it also reduced the amount of bass output. I still have the B-8P that just won't fit into my truck. I will be keeping it to install in a future vehicle because the bass output of that subwoofer is absolutely amazing for the price. If you can fit the B-8P I would absolutely recommend you purchase that one. Buy the B-8PT only if the B-8P won't fit your vehicle.

Pros: compact size, relatively easy install

Cons: not much bass, makes me miss my B-8P

This unit is small, affordable and pretty easy to install. It's adds a nice punch to a stock or slightly modified system. I'm running an Alpine deck to Kicker 6x8s in the doors of an F150 SuperCab with stock speakers still in the back. All speakers are powerwed by the deck, no external amplifiers. I use all of the sub controls in the deck and max out the controls on the sub and do not use the sub level control knob. The bass is not deep, but that's what is expected from such a small sub. It's definitely more powerful than before.

Pros: price, size, easy install

This unit fits perfectly snug under the rear seat of the wrangler. If you have a wrangler you know the roll bar speakers are the only ones that give you any decent sound (forget the dash speakers they only help in imaging). I used this sub with the low level outputs from a sony head unit and the remote turn on power also. I looked at all the options on the web for this type of speaker and am thorougly impressed with the size and clean output of this unit. I bought the reccommended rockford power and signal kit with this #10AWG. The power terminals on the amp require you to use crimp on fork connectors.

Pros: Size, lack of distortion at high output, sturdy construction, ease of installation, easy no tool controls

Cons: none

Written by: David from Atlanta, GA on March 7, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When the subwoofer is on, it sounds great in my Honda Accord EX. It is not a powerhouse, but it rounds out the bottom end quite nicely. When it is on, that is. I suspect that most of the previous 4-5 star reviews are by people who have connected the subwoofer to their head unit's preamp output and the remote wire to the head unit as well. For those of us who use the high-input leads from the rear deck speakers, the mfg had the great idea that they would dispense the need for a remote connection by having the unit power on when it sensed an audio signal. Good idea, poor implementation. The volume has to be moderately high to high before the unit comes on. At moderate volumes the unit doesn't power on at all. If the unit is on but the volume is reduced, after a few minutes the subwoofer turns off. Or, halfway through a song recorded at lower volume, the subwoofer turns off. The only reason I'm keeping it is that it is too much trouble to return.

Great space saving bass filler

Written by: Quoc from Pensacola, Fl on March 7, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted some bass in my Subaru Legacy GT wagon, and wanted to place some subs the car without taking away any of my cargo capacity. I measured how much space was under my seats and I saw the spec details of the B-8PT. I figured a pair would fit under the driver and passenger seats. I read the other reviews and decided to try two and I thought it they sucked, I would just sell them on ebay or craigslist. I installed one to hear how it sounded and boy was I pleasantly surprised! After the break in period of about two days, I really enjoy these subs. I only installed one because I found that one was enough for the quality I wanted. I have had 10s and 12s before I didn't purchase these 8s expecting hard thump. They sound great, respond quite well, and still shake(very slightly) my mirrors when I turn up the decibels. I will recommend these to anyone who wants space saving 8 inch subs that provide great filler base to supplement an overall quality stereo system. Oh, they fit under my seats with more room than I was expecting. The sub is 3.5 inches tall and left me with about 1-1.5 inches under my seat.

Pros: Great value, responsive, 3.5 inches tall, easy set up

Cons: Wish they had optional colors but if I want another color bad enough, I could always paint them later. Lacking detail on installation instructions. I I hadn't installed subs before and relied solely on the manufacturer instructions, I probably wouldn't have been able to install the B-8PT in the 3 hrs I used.

All in all, a great deal for the money. Easy installation (if you can find a place to route your power wire to the car battery) and definitely gives off a noticeable difference in sound when just running an HU an speaker setup. Does very well for music requiring mid levels of bass but as others have mentioned it is not made for music with heavy bass.

Pros: Cost, installation and ability

Cons: Not meant for heavy bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exactly what I had hoped it would be. I have a Hummer H3T and had almost given up on installing any kind of subwoofer as there is very little room on the interior. I had to remove the seats to get it in, but it ended up fitting very well. It sounds as expected, not rattling the car next to me, but it is able to pull enough low end out of the door speakers to allow the whole system to sound cleaner, deeper and ultimately louder.

Pros: Great sound from such a small package. Perfect in that it fit in a space that I thought would never have a sub.

Cons: None to mention so far.

Bass Fill

Written by: Jordan from Fresno, CA on March 3, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a ton of research before making a decision on how to best add bass to my F150 SuperCrew Cab. I already upgraded my speakers to a pair of Kicker 6x9s (front doors) and 6x8s (back doors), and my deck to a Pioneer DVD receiver. While all this fills out the sound well and is a million times better than the stock stuff, I still wanted more bass. After talking to a Crutchfield advisor and doing a ton of research I decided that this should be right for me. And it has not disappointed! While it's not like the crazy bass that my old car had with 2 10s in the trunk, it fills out the bottom end perfectly and still has some hit to it. The versatility of install locations due to the small size is awesome, and the included remote gives instant access to bass control. This is perfect for someone like me who can go between folk, rock, metal, hip-hop, club...basically anything. If you're missing the bottom end in your system, this is a must have!!!

Pros: Small, powerful for the size, fills out the sound.

Cons: None.

I installed the SO B-8pt behind the passenger side rear seat in a 2012 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. This sub is perfect for what I wanted. The install was easy and with a little tuning sounded great. I purchased this to complement my Polk Audio DXI 6500 component and DXI 650s speakers. It provides fantastic base punch without overwhelming the mids and highs. I hooked this up to a Pioneer AVH X5500BHS on the sub preout. It is a great unit with exceptional build quality. I would recommend this powered sub to anyone who is looking for adding an extra punch without taking over your whole system.

Pros: Excellent build quality, easy install and great punch without taking over your system.

Cons: remote gain adjust doesnt seem to do a whole lot unless it is really hitting hard.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a way to add a subwoofer to my honda pilot without compromising the storage space. This subwoofer fits under the passenger seat. I installed the subwoofer myself. The install should have been easy - it took me longer because I had a hard time deciding how I wanted to run the power wire to the battery. Make sure you buy the EFX wiring kit - it has everything you need to connect the subwoofer. As for sound: the unit adds a nice punch to the folk, rock and jazz I listen to. I am able to amazing full sound with this unit and the infinity speakers I installed at the same time.

Pros: Fits under a passenger seat, does interfere with storage space. Provides the amount of punch needed for 99% of people.

Cons: For the 1% that want music so loud they will be deaf at age 40 - this unit won't help you pop your eardrum.

Nice component. It's hard to find a small, powered amp to fit under the seat and this one fits the bill at a nice price. This seems to be very well made compared to the last unit that I tried (Boss Audio) which stopped working twice before it went to the landfill. This unit sounds darn good (not amazing but very good as there is only so much a singe 8" woofer in a small cabinet can do) and the owners manual leaves a little to be desired but I would definitely buy it again.

Pros: Small, well-built, reasonably priced and can really add depth and punch to a factory or small system.

Cons: No cons really other than the instruction manual could be a little more descriptive with installation and tuning.

Decent Bass

Decent bass for a small, inexpensive subwoofer. It will fill out a stock or slightly upgraded system well. That said, if your door speakers are amped you should look elsewhere for more power. I'm happy for now in my F-150 Screw, but I'll probably build a box and invest in a good 10" and amp soon.

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to install

I really enjoyed this product, it fit where I wanted it to go and it sounded good, when it worked.. I'm now on my second unit in two years and it's stopped working (again)... The first one stopped and Crutchfield replaced it, no questions asked, very nice of them as it had been almost a year. Now I've had this second one for a good while and it too just stopped working... It still gets power and a little (very very very little) noise comes out but, it in effect no longer works at all. I hadn't done anything "weird" with either unit and I hardly pushed it's capabilities, as I listen to mostly softer music styles. It just decided to stop being a subwoofer.

Pros: Fit in small space, sounded ok.

Cons: stopped working way to quickly

Had a new double-din Pioneer and 4 Rockford speakers. Sounded great but lacked a solid bottom end. Enter the B-8PT and problem solved. Installed in a 2008 F-150 Supercrew under back seat behind driver side seat and truly could not be happier!!! This has rounded out the sound in my truck perfectly, took no time to install and is ideal for my needs. I am not a heavy bass kind of guy but I am now able to control the sub through the Pioneer head unit and can dial it in any way I want. Never thought with the size of this powered sub that it could make as much difference as it has but trust me, it has!!! Chevy Colorado install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this powered sub in my crew cab Chevy Colorado. Blown away by how hard it hits. For a single 8 it does the job big time. Doesn't hit the real low notes but you expect that from a smaller sub. Other than that i am really impressed. If you are on the fence then I'm telling you to jump over. You won't be disappointed. With the generous return policy you can test drive this baby but you'll probably keep it like i did. This sub fit perfectly under the rear seat.

Pros: Hits hard, fast response to bass heavy music

Cons: None really

For what it is and what I needed, this product is really great. It puts just enough punch in the lower end. A F150 super crew '05 model. Put it under the backseat in the middle, had it professionally installed, cause nowadays with computers and such in vehicles I just did not want to take a chance. Wouldn't mind another but no room as I like what little storage I have.

Im a first time subwoofer installer. This little sub is a nice addition to my 98 Jeep cherokee. It provided enough bass to really fill the car. Super easy to install, with a little help from the Crutchfield techs. Glad I bought this! Maybe next time I'll upgrade to something that bumps a bit harder.

Pros: Easy installation, small but packs alot of punch, amazing price

Cons: wish I had gotten one sooner

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Big sound out of such a little package. Put in a 2011 F150 Super Crew. Quite a large interior volume to fill and this does the trick. I wanted more low in with some upgraded door speakers on my stock headunit. Great, crisp sound and plenty of adjustments to get everything right. As others have pointed out the high-level speaker inputs are somewhat difficult to get just right. I went with a remote wire plugged into an accessory fuse w/ the ignition in. Fit it right underneath my passenger seat so (almost) completely hidden. I don't write reviews often but this is well worth it.

Pros: Great sound, big sound for small size, Hooked right up to factory headunit (F150), # of adjustments

Cons: High-level speaker unit was finniky, opted for remote power. Could be a deal breaker for someone without that option,

I had this installed under my front seat of a 92 Jeep Wrangler. I went from two 12" kickers in my last vehicle to the single 8" SO B-8PT. It's not for bass heads but sounds great and truly adds just enough of a punch not to have my windows cut open and have it stolen. I would buy it again if a tight space and not over powering bass is needed.

Pros: fits tight spaces

Cons: not for bass heads.

Small package, big sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2012 Ford F150 Supercab. The stock stereo sounded like a clock radio. I didn't want to butcher up my interior and I wanted to keep the stock head unit. So I started out replacing the front door speakers with some Polk speakers. Great, crisp clear sound but still lacking any bottom end punch. This sub filled the bill. My stereo now sounds awesome and I couldn't be any happier. It fits like glove under the front passenger side seat. Some reviewers have reported that the auto sense that turns the sub on didn't always work unless they had the rear speakers turned way up. Wanting to avoid that problem and also because I didn't want to splice into my wiring or use those wire taps for the speaker connections I ordered an amplifier interface. For those that don't know this little device is a box that plugs in between your radio and factory wiring harness. It gives you front and rear line outs and a trigger wire to connect to the sub so that it will positively turn it on. It costs about $40.00. Yes, you do have to remove the radio to install it but it is well worth it. No trying to figure out which wires to tap into. Special note to Ford owners with factory Ford Synch: Some have reported that they experienced problems with Synch if they ran a sub off the front speakers due to the fact that Synch uses the front speakers for its functions. I didn't want my phone calls going through the sub anyway, so I used the rear connections.

Pros: Sounds great!

Cons: None.

Invisible bass on demand

Written by: Jimi Jimi from Annapolis, MD on February 8, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this as an "open box" unit. Condition was perfect and I saved about 10% on the purchase. It fit under the driver's seat of my Subaru Impreza like it custom designed to fit there. After consulting with Crutchfield, I decided to use the remote adjustment knob, sticking it onto the side of the center console under the hand brake. As I tested it with a number of different genres of CDs, I never had to turn it anywhere near maximum to produce a bass-rich sound. The unit fit long-edge-forward, with connections facing the center of the car and adjustment knobs facing outwards where they could be reached (with some difficulty) after the installation was finalized.

Pros: Quality bass sound makes music sound fuller, more lifelike. Remote control makes it easy to add bass for music playback and reduce it for listening to talk radio. No loss us useable space in the car. Easy to connect. Construction seems robust. Terminals are high quality.

Cons: Better instructions on how to adjust this unit in synch with subwoofer adjustments on the head unit would have been useful. Adjustment knobs are tiny and hard to fine tune...making them larger in diameter (10mm) wouldn't hurt the installation but would improve ease of tuning.

Nice Upgrade To OEM System

Written by: Chris O from SF Bay Area on February 5, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An easy install under the driver seat of my 1999 Subaru Impreza. Am using the high-level inputs, (as opposed to line-in) because I am running the stock head unit. Sound is nice, but I found that using the "Auto-On" function that detects the incoming signal from the speaker wires only does not turn the sub on reliably, unless the volume is turned up significantly. So, I ran a lead from the accessory line going into the head unit, to turn it on when the accessory power comes on. I put a switch on the accessory input line, before the sub, in case I am not listening to music, I can keep the sub off too. Sound is a very good bass supplement and a fine match with the stock system and the Polk Dxi 650's I have up front.

Pros: Easy to install and sounds very good as an upgrade to a stock audio system.

Cons: Instruction sheet could be more descriptive on how to dial-in the fine tune adjustments, to help a novice installer, such as myself.

I installed this about a week ago in my 2000 Silverado extended cab with a new Pioneer DEH-3400UB CD receiver. Install was easy and it fits nicely under the folding seat in the back. It seems like between the two units, I have a lot of options to adjust the sound settings which is nice. The sound is good and exactly what I was looking for. Kudos to Cruchfield and the rep I spoke to on the phone who recommended this. I love their customer support.

Pros: Easy install

Cons: Wish it came with a way to easily mount it to the floor so it dosn't move around. So far it hasn't but want to make sure it doesn't. Maybe I'll find a cheap velcro solution to get it to stay put.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I want to start off by saying that I am a bass junky, I've installed numerous aftermarket systems in different vehicles and have always used Crutchfield to purchase my products. I recently bought a 2013 Honda Accord Sedan and I was very skeptical about ripping it apart to add the well needed bass. I always research every option in detail before making my decision and thus I came upon the Sound OrdnanceT B-8PT. At first I was worried it wouldn't give me the sound I was looking for but I was wrong, this speaker and amp combo is definitely loud enough for anyone. It will not make you hair stand up but it feels and sounds very powerful. I purchased this speaker because of all the great reviews it received and because it was small enough for me to PERFECTLY fit it under my drivers' seat. The sound is great and it brings that extra detail out of everything I listen too, and I do listen to almost every genre of music. The price was good and it was way easier to install dealing with the smaller gauge wires than some larger systems I've installed in the past. I WOULD recommend this product to everyone looking to upgrade their system without replacing any major components (factory radio, speakers...etc). I would also like to say that I have always and will continue to recommend Crutchfield to everyone looking to upgrade their audio experience.

Pros: Price is very reasonable, sound is very loud and powerful, easier installation, bought it from Crutchfield

Cons: N/A

Written by: Greg T. from Knoxville, TN on January 26, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this B-8PT in my 98 Chevy Silverado Extended cab, 3rd door truck and I absolutely love it! I first upgraded my Head unit and then upgraded my stock speakers to the RF PUNCH's in both the doors and the rear pillars. (NO regrets at all). The sound was so much clearer and I had much more control on how I wanted my music to sound, but I was still missing my low end, deep base that is needed in music. I am a do it yourself-er, but I still did not want to get into building speaker boxes and trying to fit them under by back seat. So I opted for the B-8PT and love it. This speaker fits perfect behind my seat and still gives me the space I need under the seat. The wired remote control allows me to control the base output when I change between rock and roll to bluegrass to country. This remote works great by giving the opportunity to take out the throaty roar that may come from too much base in a rock song to having that right amount of 'hit' in a jammin' country or pop song. The 'phone cord' is plenty long enough to go anywhere in your truck whether it be below your dash or in your center console. I recently got a friend of mine to listen and he thought I had put in an amp, built a big speaker box and had a 12" sub hidden somewhere. I could not be more happier with the way my truck sounds.

Pros: All the base I wanted and then some. Works perfect in the cab of a pickup truck with limited space. Could see it working in an SUV also.

Cons: The only caution I can give is you may not get the same results from putting this in a trunk of a big car like a crown vic. So if you are expecting a truck rattler or expecting to have to tighten the screws up on your license plate every day then I don't recommend this.

I am restoring a classic 1976 Mercedes 450SEL. My first car was also a Mercedes back in the 1970's. At that time a German loudspeaker, the Visonik David, was imported here in the US. This speaker towered above all automotive speakers, and I had them installed. Incredible. In fact, the Visonik David brought the subwoofer into being for home audiofiles (David and "Goliath," the sub designed by the legendary Ken Kreisel... flash forward 40 years, and I actually found the only pair of Visonik Davids in the U.S. - but in 30 years, the David had truly been retooled to work as a satellite which really needs a subwoofer. Enter the Sound Ordnance B-8PT, some custom work in losing the medicine cabinet in exchange for the sub port, and lo and behold, I have once again, arguably, the best sounding car on the road. The weaknesses displayed by all "car speakers" are not there, only the recording studio quality sound I prefer. Visonik Davids are commonly used in mobile recording studios in Europe. Today, I spent four hours in a 2013 Camaro with a top flight Bose audio system, and the difference to my Sound Ordnance enriched Visonik David Mercedes is so striking, our two cars are in two widely separated ball parks. World Class, World Beating sound or my vehicle with Sound Ordnance and the Davids, and Good But Far From Great for the new car and Bose. A Sound Ordnance sub would help the Camaro a LOT.

Pros: Sound Ordnance delivers the missing octaves and presence required by music of every discipline, with a caveat: for those needing the muddy, pointless, throbbing, detail free bass of rap (branded today as Hip Hop except to the performers of whom I have photographed many) this is not your sub, as it is MUSICAL. In a vehicle, only pressure differential bass can be heard. Put a meter inside your thumping car and be amazed at how little bass there actually is.

Cons: There is enough bass to cause a maddening quest to figure out what is vibrating and making noise in an old car. Once cured, bliss returns.

My decision to purchase this amp was based on the 500+ positive reviews it has received. So after my self installation, I am impressed with the bass it puts out. The bass remote is a plus being able to adjust the woofer on the fly. I was able to install remote in a small knockout on my 2000 GMC Sierra, easily reachable while driving. For someone that wants extra bass but dont want to rattle your neighbors windows this would be a good choice.

Pros: Nice amp+woofer combo, Remote makes quick woofer adjustment. Great for all types of music. It can make your rear view mirror vibrate or it can add just enough pop.

Cons: Using velcro that comes with it to mount is only con I have. Otherwise it just lays under the seat and left with your own imagination to mount it.

My Car - 2011 Toyota Camry SE. The install was pretty straight forward. The hardest part was finding a place to go through the firewall. There is a rubber grommet on the left side about half way down. I had to get a large screwdriver and drive it ALL THE WAY THROUGH to see it from the inside of the car. I then had to feel around for it. It was a lot harder than I expected and took a lot longer than expected too. When I got stuck the Crutchfield staff helped guide me through the process and were very helpful. I installed the sub under the passengers side seat. If you have a Camry there is a flap in the carpet under the seat that has a hole already there so you can screw in your ground wire! Very handy! I didn't have to drill a new hole in the floorboard. I kept my stock head unit so I had to patch in the REM to the gray wire. The only gripe I have is that the B-8PT doesn't have feet, like you'd see on an amp, to screw it to the floor. The velcro just doesn't stop the unit from sliding around. I had to drill my own holes in the unit to keep it from sliding around. I would recommend this unit! Great buy!

I got this and was concerned about reviews on other sub-woofers like this one being negative. I did not get an install "Master Sheet" from Crutchfield so I elected to have the installer install it for me. He and I both looked at it and laughed a little and after an hour I could hear a booming noise coming from the installation bay. I went over to the window and inside I could see my installer grinning ear to ear and waving for me to come inside the installation garage. One word - disbelief! I could not believe the amount of sound that little 8" powered sub-woofer was pumping out and he had it at the 3/4 mark. WOW, even my Powered Bazooka 6.5 never did that well, I was floored and soon grinning ear to ear with him! What a difference this made. I don't listen to Rap or anything like it but had left it on the Country Portion of my USB stick. The installer said he did not know country had so much bass in their music! To be honest, I did not know either until this S/O sub! I highly recommend this sub, do not hesitate or doubt its ability to do the job, so far I have tested on my country music, Blues, christmas, Vietnamese, and some Rock music, I am EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with this unit. The installer was too that he made copies of the literature before finishing the job so that he could tell his friends about it. I do not know if it will handle Rap or what ever is popular today but it exceeds my needs and expectations.

Pros: Small, fits under seat and does not take up floor space, Boom like nobody's business! Worth every penny you pay for it!

Cons: wife keeps turning it up, going to have to move the remote away from her.

Did not expect so much sound from such a compact unit. Definitely over achieves! Mated in my 2012 Wrangler 2dr with a Pioneer DEH-P8400BH and Polk DXi6500 components up front with Polk DXi650s in the rear. Very satisfied with the power and the sound quality. Crutchfield, as usual, did their routine outstanding job. Despite the small size of this sub, I could not fit it under either front seat. So it lives in the cargo area, pumping out wonderful musical underbelly of my favorite songs! I've seen the reviewers who complain that this sub has very weak output. I can only assume they have become accustomed to the type of bass that you can here coming from three blocks away, or they have somehow totally messed up the connections or settings. Or perhaps a defective unit? Anyone other than bass junkies and true audiophiles should be very satisfied with this sub. I am thrilled!

Pros: Big sound in a small, inexpensive package!

Lets start by saying this unit is NOT bad. I see most reviews of people who put this under the rear seat in a truck which if that were the case for me I would have probably really liked it. However I installed this under the passenger seat in my 2013 WRX and it just doesn't do it for me. I listen to ALL variety of music and for some it sounded pretty good and others it really missed. Some notes hit and sounded like the kind of bass I expected, and other just sounded like a thud. I think part of that reason is the frequency response only bottoms out at 40hz. This sub just doesn't hit low enough for me and I hate having the bass in my ear as it drowns out my stereo speakers, and if I have the sub lower I can't hear it. Now there are some positives here. While this unit didn't work for me it still produced quality bass for country/rock/pop music. I think this would be a great purchase for someone who listens primarily to rock/jazz/singer songwriter stuff. I will repeat what many reviewers have said. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU LISTEN TO RAP OR HIP HOP. It will sound terrible and you will be very dissapointed. It does not hit low enough to produce some of the notes to sound good. This does not produce "feel it" bass, it produces notes just low enough to hear it which is why it will round out your system very well if thats all you are looking to accomplish

Pros: Price, Compact and a great solution to save space and fill out your system

Cons: Frequency response is only as low as 40hz, and you can tell.

I trust crutchfield so that's 1 of my main reasons for buying this sub. The other is space, this fit perfectly in my 02 ford sport trac in stash compartment behind rear seat. Me personally I ran a dedicated ground line rite to neg terminal on battery I'm all about good quality sound. I have zero feed back or hum when I turn system on or off, I can even power up and power down with volume up and still have a good clean start up and shut down. So going to the neg terminal on batt is a perfect ground and not relying on the car body. I'm a full time hip-Hop head with with a small home studio and I like quality sound and this sub gives me what I was looking for. I also purchased the pioneer dvd1400 pairing this with the sub and all the settings and adjustments on head unit it's a very good combo.

Pros: Punch clarity very good bang for the buck and with the included amp wiring kit for the price it's all pro to me

Cons: The only 1 con is the line jack for the bass control knob was a little short 17 ft would have been perfect but i just ran the line under center console drilled a 1/4" whole near cup holder secured bass controller under center console re-attached bass knob now my set up looks factory/custom. I think I turned my con into a pro

This one's a no-brainer...Great for the investment!

This is by far the single best purchase I've made in the last 30 years. I'm an old school rocker who has recently discovered the bass tracks that are on the music I've listened to for years. I didn't want to anger the neighbors or make the mirrors vibrate on the car next to me, just wanted to bring up the bottom end and take a bit of the load off my stock stereo speakers in my 2001 F150. I'm a bit baffled on the multiple settings on the amp itself as to where each should be set but for now it sounds fantastic and the sub control knob is just the ticket for tweaking the bass on each song that plays with the touch of a finger.

Pros: Ease of installation, size, termination of wiring

Cons: Little to no clear reference for settings on the unit. ie, Level, Bass EQ, Phase and Frequency. Also, the posting recommends 8 or 10 gauge wire. I mistakenly ran 8 gauge and ended up splicing down to 10 so I could put connectors on the ends of the wire that would fit in the terminal slots on the unit.

Pros: Compact, good price and wiring kit is free.

Cons: No mounting holes or brackets.

This is a great way to extend the bass of existing system. In my case, I am running fasgates in the door and high Vas speakers in the rear deck. Without the B-8PT the low are actually pretty good. Point being, I should have ordered the 10" version from Sound Ordinance. Nothing wrong with the B-8PT and I like it a lot. Buyers be careful to assess your existing sound before making a decision. Also, your system should have the ability to attenuate base properly so it doesn't interfere with the subs, however some constructive wave forms may increase dB at certain freq.

Pros: Sounds great, easy hook up, well built.

Cons: None really.

This little sub was just what I needed to replace my old Kenwood Woox powered sub. For me, installation was a snap since I was able to use most of my existing wiring from my old sub. I was able to put this sub behind the back seat in my '02 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with plenty of room--and it sounds fantastic. The B-8PT far exceeds the performance of my old sub (going from 60 watts to 120). It's nice to have all the sound controls on the sub and of course the level-remote is nice too. I highly recommend this little sub.

Pros: Great sound, small, customizable controls, wired remote

Cons: Wish the remote had more than just the level control (i.e. frequency, phase).

Installed this sub along with a JVC head unit and four speakers in my pickup. Fits under my seat. Solid, fills in the bass just like I wanted so I don't have to send bass to the other speakers. Good clean bass. It is not a thumper though. Also, the remote bass level control is surprisingly handy, you can adjust the bass on the fly to fit each song.

Pros: Small, clean bass, Remote bass level adjust

Cons: Won't boom the low lows but that's not what I got it for.

I was completely surprised by the rich thump that this sub provides. The sound ordnance B-8PT was exactly what I was looking for to fulfill my low frequency needs in my quad cab pickup. I like it! 2004 Dodge Quad Cab.

Mo better sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After replacing the stock speakers with the Kicker upgrade in my Wrangler I gained a little better sound but not loud enough to over come soft top noise or with the top down, I then put a Kenwood DNX 6180 in the dash . Another small improvement. I then got this powered sub and this was the biggest improvement to my system. I did not realize that it also changes the all over sound in my speakers. I now listen to my music with less volume and much better clarity.

Pros: Doesn't have that banging bass sound.

Cons: None yet

2003 Chevrolet Silverado Ext Cab JVC KWR800BT CD Receiver | Boston Acoustics SE75 4" x 6" Speakers | Boston Acoustics SE55 5.25" Speakers | Sound Ordnance B-8PT Single 8" Amplified Flatsub Honestly...I was completely surprised by the rich thump that this sub provides. Perfect, dial-able amount, for my truck cab. I thought I was going to install under my passenger front seat but has a heat vent under it. It fits perfectly under the rear fold up seat with room to spare. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Pros: Excellent value for the buck. Rich sound.

Cons: Still trying to find any.

Great Lows!

Written by: Dan from Simi Valley, Cali on December 26, 2012

I put this Sub in my old Ranger pickup. Now this is a short cab truck & I'm 6 ft tall, so this is a small truck. Space is at a premium! I figured I would slide this under the passenger seat without actually taking a look. Well, I was pretty disappointed when I looked after I got it & the Explorer seats in the truck are about an inch off the floor. Not going to fit there. So the truck had small 3.5 speakers in plastic housings behind the seat I had planned on removing anyway, so I mounted the sub with some industrial velcro to the carpet on the back wall of the cab. Fits perfect! For a small space like a compact truck, this sub does a great job. The sound is a lot fuller & you can feel the base, even @ 70 on the freeway! The bass seems to hold up OK when I crank up the Megadeth. Even my 21 year old son is impressed.

Pros: Good price. Great package for a small space.

Cons: Could use more mounting options than the little strip of included velcro.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice build quality, really solid and pretty clean sounding. I would not recommend this, however, for trunk use. It's just not powerful enough. Ideal for inside passenger compartment, under a seat, etc. One other criticism: doesn't accomodate 8 AWG wiring. Posts are too small, but unit was matched with 8 ga wiring kit too large for it.

Pros: Very nice build quality and smooth sound when not too loud.

Cons: Not adequate for well insulated trunk use in passenger car.

Excellent powered sub. Incredible value, no technical complaints or sound complaints. This is an 8" sub, so please do not expect a earth shattering 12" sub. This is ideal for rounding out a quality stock system or mid grade compenent system. Perfectly completed premium sound system of my 2009 335i.

Pros: Price, high level inputs, wired-remote volume control. Light weight compact thump. Doesn't compromise weight or trunk space. High level inputs (no need to buy converter).

Cons: Must fabricate mounts if planning anything besides under the seat.

4.5; SO power sub simplifies the way a very nice car sound system should sound likes. We bought this product as a Christmas gift for our High School senior and our son is static with the sound. I even installed the unit by simply following the step-by-step instructions and is very simplistic. The unit fits below the second row seat and you will not even know is there unless you are looking for it. So pleased that I am thinking about ordering an additional unit for my own truck.

Pros: great sound at a great price. simple installation

I purchased this based on the review and article in the Crutchfield Catalog. Most items they have reviewed well have turned out to be good. I hope this will as well. I have had it for a few weeks, and haven't completed the installation, but I had a concern when I first opened the box, that I wanted to share. I will update this review once install is complete/ When I first opened the bod the remote control came out first, and immediately the remote felt like flimsy cheap plastic/ The back plate of the remote had also fallen off. Seems the glue that was holding didn't make it through shipping. This has me worried about other components within the powered sub itself that may shake lose once it's been pushing out sound for a while. As usual Crutchfield sent along a very nice installation kit, etc... I just hope this stands up to the test of time..

Much more than I expected in my '08 Ford Supercab

Written by: TerryN from New Orleans LA on December 19, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 2008 Ford Supercab. I'm a 47 yo guy who used to have the latest Panasonic in-dash, Jet Sound EQ and Jensen Tri-Axials way way back in the day. I graduated to the Kenwoods, Punch, Alpines, etc etc in the 80's and other sundry items in years since. So I've always appreciated a somewhat decent system that did not break the bank. When I bought the Ford, which is honestly so damn well kept it amazes me, I wanted to up-gun the stereo (reliving my wasted youth). After installing a great Kenwood head unit and pairing that with Polk door speakers it was better, but not clean and clear at louder volume. Tthe incredible peeps at Crutchfield suggested the Alpine Power Pack to boost the HU power so we did that. Again, it got much better with increased horsepower for the Polks but no bottom end at all. In my cab there isnt alot of room for a sub whatsoever. So I looked at the compact Sound Ordnance B-8PT. I was skeptical but read the reviews like you're doing and was sold. Install was not difficult and after tweaking a bit I am truly blown away. I have to remember to turn it down at red lights lest I get the bad looks from fellow drivers. I listen to rock, country, a bit of pop, R&B, blues, almost everything except rap. So I dont need the rolling boom which this unit will not provide. What it does give you in spades in a tight punchy bass you will FEEL. And that is all I wanted. I LOVE IT.

Pros: Compact design, ease of installation, PRICE.

Cons: Nonestly, for the price, NONE.

installed new speakers in my sons jeep for the holidays. put sound ordnance rounds in the sound bar and polk in the sides but the sound was all mids and highs, very tinny. not much you can do with such small spaces. so i called the crutchfield tech desk and they recommended this compact powered sub. wranglers have absolutely no space to put anything, so i was concerned, but after about an hour of installation (the free wiring kit was a lifesaver) i sat my son in the drivers seat and his smile said it all. the sound is a perfect match the mids and highs, the powered sub just puts the bottom in. with the remote dial control you can zone it right in. thx for the help.

Great price for a lot of Bass. Mine came with an amp wiring kit which made the installation much easier. There are several adjustments on the B8PT and it took some time setting them and modifying the tuners options to get it sounding right.

Pros: Simple installation

Cons: Power terminals could be a little larger and have a protective cover.

About a year ago I replaced my old stock radio and speakers with a nice Kenwood system but it just didn;t have much bass. I just put this powered sub under the back seat a few weeks ago and it sounds awesome. I have a 1998 supercab F150 that I've treated like a baby since it was new...now I have a stereo system that sounds fantastic and makes my truck feel almost new again. The free installation kit makes it a good buy, the compact size makes it perfect for under the seat, and the added bass is sure to make just about any system sound great. Just buy it, you'll be happy with it!

Pros: Compact, free installation kit

It does exactly what it is supposed to do

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You are considering purchasing this unit because you want to add some low frequency bass to your mobile audio system but you DO NOT want to (or can not) fill up your trunk with a wall of giant speakers. Not you? Then keep looking. My previous vehicle was an Audi A6. I had a JL 10" sub in the trunk. It sounded fantastic and I didn't mind that it took up some limited cargo space. But in my new vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, I decided I did not want to sacrifice ANY space. Nor do I want a giant speaker box visible to every person on the street. So I opted to go without a sub. Ouch. I'm a "bass guy" - always have been. What to do? Well, there really was only one option - a compact sub. There are several compact subs on the market - take a look, Crutchfield has a great selection. But I wanted to position the sub UNDER my seat so that *I* can feel the bass. That narrowed my choices to only one or two units. And based on the reviews on this site I chose the Sound Ordnance. I had it professionally installed by a shop I trust. So here is my review: It does exactly what I had hoped it would do. It gave me the low end that was missing in my new system. Obviously I did not expect it to deliver the jaw-dropping bass of my previous system. And it doesn't. But it does add the low end that was missing and I am now a very happy "bass-head" again. I am thrilled with this purchase, at any price. Now factor in how much I paid for it and I'm even happier

Pros: Small. Fits under the driver's seat (in some cases). Does exactly what it's supposed to do - deliver the low-end frequencies like a champ

Cons: None. Really. I still can't believe how much bass this little thing delivers, and at such a low price. Unbelievable.

Depends on what your looking for

Written by: Garrett from IL on December 11, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like other reviews have stated, if your looking to wake the neighbors when you leave for work. This is not for you. However, if you are looking for some low ends to go with your factory speakers. I would recommend. It all depends on what you listen to. I listen to rock/rap and Dave Matthews band (which does not really fit into a genre imo) Different songs produce different sounds. One rock song might hit hard and make you think you have a 10 inch kicker behind you. Others just slightly fill in where factory door speakers lack. I have 2 8in Sony subs with a thousand watt amp I could have custom fit in this truck. But I was not looking for the window shaker, just more than what I had for a decent price. It's only been about 3 weeks, but I think this sub delivers. All depends on what sound you want. You want "big boom" Do not buy this. You want a little more low end sound without sacrifising room in your truck/car for a decent price. I would recommend

Pros: Price, Sound, Size

Cons: This unit has a auto turn on feature. Mine does not work and the manual is very vague. Maybe you have to be running the RCA cables for it to work? I tapped into the fuse panel to substitute for a lack of remote wire in a factory radio

B-8PT solid little sub

Written by: Brian T from Havana, FL on December 10, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first hooked up this unit in my 2003 Rendezvous I thought, "this will never do." After using it for a few days though, it seems to have broken in nicely. I had to back off the rest of the system speakers to about the middle of the volume range and run the sub at full power and full volume on the receiver. This provides adequate response. See below.

Pros: Solid and compact enough to fit in the one place where it won't have to be moved in order to accommodate seating changes. The sound is tight. Can push lower bass guitar range without getting boomy.

Cons: Missing the bottom 20Hz. Thought about installing two, but I don't think that will expand the frequency range much.

Good clear bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would recommend this self-powered sub-woofer to anyone who does not want to put a huge box in their trunk and ride around with their license plate flapping around and everything else shaking. This woofer is excellent and has enough power to create those perfect low notes that you might desire. I listen to a mixed array of music, ranging from classical, rock, acoustic, alternative, hip-hop, R&B, heavy metal, pop and everything else in between. And so far no issues with the bass on any of these genera but more pros than anything else. I enjoy my music much more than I used and would recommend these to anyone.

Pros: Clear bass, compact size, easy to install, settings

Cons: Might not be enough for attention grabbing, trunk rattling bass.

Nice subwoofer for the price. If you're short on trunk space this thing is perfect. I have it in my Ford Focus hatchback and it produces enough bass to fill out the sound. I don't need to be rattling windows anymore (grown out of that), just something that will produce some punch for my system. I have aftermarket speakers, Alpine head unit and this sub. Works well.

Before I made the purchase I looked around for about a month comparing different subs in the same price range. I read a lot of good reviews for this sub and only a few that were bad. I bought it thinking it would GREATLY improve the sound system in my SUV but I can honestly say you can barely notice its there, unless you crank it up a bit and get pure rattling clacking noises from the sub. I'm not completely satisfied with my purchase and will probably end up returning it. FYI I had it professionaly installed. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO A FRIEND.

Pros: Cheap, small footprint.

Cons: As stated above.

Big Sound From a Little Sub

Written by: BrewCityF150 from Milwaukee, WI on December 3, 2012

This is a great product! I have the B-8PT under the rear seat of my 2012 F150 Supercab. The F150 has 5x7/6x8 speakers on all 4 doors and the bass output is decent. I upgraded the door speakers to Infinity Reference and kept the stock HU. (I used the PAC AOEM-FRD24 to add pre-amp outputs so I didn't have to splice factory wires.) Adding this little powered sub to the equation filled in the low end perfectly! I was blown away by how much bass this little unit puts out. If you listen to hip-hop this might not be for you as the frequency range is 40-200Hz and you loose the chest shaking lows. This is a perfect solution for an in-cab sub if you listen to country music.

Pros: Great sound, small size, free amp wiring kit

Cons: Frequency only goes down to 40Hz

This is a pretty good powered sub. I installed this in a 08 Tacoma DC behind the driver side rear seat. It really brings out the lows that were missing from my stock speakers. I don't think it gives as much punch as my old Bazooka bass tubes from previous vehicles but it works perfect in the Tacoma. I still have some tweaking to do with the settings on the HU and sub to get optimal sound though. Component speakers in the front doors are next.

Pros: Crutchfield in general, quick shipping, great price, easy install

Cons: Non as of yet..
