Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered sub

This compact sub delivers strong bass without taking up much space.

Big bass from this tough little sub

A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered subwoofer

The molded ABS enclosure houses a 125-watt amp and a tough little 8" sub.

Good design helps

The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.

Product was easy to hook up with my current aftermarket stereo and sounded great!

Cons:

Great fit, sounds better

Fred F from Seabeck WA on 7/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't need a massive thumper-machine. Fitment was more important because this unit is for our camper. I had no place to install a sub until finding this one. Now it can be moved to another location if I don't like the first pick.

Pros: Fills in the missing bass just like a sub's suppose to.

Cons: None yet

Big sound out of a little package

Freakin Rican from Panama City FL on 7/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't expecting to have earth shattering bass but this little system surprised me. I have no room in my truck for a proper sub box so this was the only alternative. If I could have given it a 4 1/2 star I would. Not quite a 5, but close. And the deal Crutchfield had made it a no brainer. Very pleased with the product.

Pros: Small size, big sound, easy installation.

Cons: Doesn't pick up low hertz-but that's expected as is 2" wide......

Great little amp and sub I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass this small unit produced. Everything needed to install it was included.

Pros: A great fit for my Jeep Wrangler. Easy to hook up.

Cons: None

B-8PT

Donnie H from Tylertown,MS on 7/15/2014

I have a friend that has a 2004 Dodge Quad Cab and wanted some bass in his ride that would not take away any room. so I suggested the B8PT. This did the trick for him. It filled in the bass he was missing from his door speakers that are by-the-way not stock. This little unit is not meant for trying to shake your friends car next to you. It will fill in the bass that your door speakers have trouble producing. To secure the remote bass knob we used 3M velcro and it worked just fine. If you'll adjust your gain and crossover properly I think you will enjoy this unit. We also hooked it up to RCA outputs on his Pioneer radio.

Pros: Fits just about anywhere, 3 year warranty, and came with amp kit.

Cons: Some try to compare this unit to an SPL subwoofer and in doing so are greedy with their stars.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reviews are what we look for and this is one little power house. I installed this unit under the back seat of my 95 jeep. More than enough bass for any song. Easy install, balance of controls and I still have room.

Pros: Easy install

Cons: None

Works well

boleebar from Midwest on 7/7/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was easy with the free wiring kit that was included with the purchase. It did take a little bit of time working with the controls both on the sub, as well as the sub controls on the head unit, to get the sound i was looking for. Occasionally, a song will need a little more or less and that is easily taken care of with the remote dial. As many have stated here before, if you want to fill in the bottom of the spectrum in your system, this works very well. The shape/size of the unit makes it possible to put under the driver seat (despite the electric seat adjustment motors, etc) and not lose any storage space in my quad cab pickup. I would describe the sound as "tight" and not "boomy" as others have mentioned. If you are looking to annoy people outside your vehicle with massive thumping bass, this is not the unit for you. If you have limited cab space and want to fill out the sound of your system so you can feel the kick bass and bass guitar - and you are willing to spend some time adjusting the sound controls, I would think you would be satisfied. I am. I've had this unit for almost a month and have had no QA issues to date.

Pros: Size, ease of install, sound

Cons: None so far

Reliability Issues

Allan from Lugoff, SC on 7/2/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub has reliability issues, I am using a stock head unit so I am running through the high level input and had issues with the auto turn on. The first sub lasted for all of about 14 seconds and Crutchfield was great about sending a replacement promptly, the second worked for a few hours and gave the same issues. It is a bit boomy and doesnt handle lows the best but fills out the system when it is working. You may not have the same issues running on the low level input with remote turn on. I have returned this item and gone with the Focal iBus 20 for the time being. For anyone considering this, im sure you have also looked at the Kicker hideaway and the focal, please check out the following article on this website. I did not find it until after my original order but the actual performance stats vary pretty greatly from the listed stats. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uhvO7tdSuXL/learn/testing-three-compact-subs-in-the-crutchfield-labs.html

Pros: Fits under seat Great customer support

Cons: Reliability Quality Control Build Quality Sound

Poor longevity

steveinglendale from Glendale, CA on 7/2/2014

Got this several years ago to help out with base after replacing rotted, blown paper Infinity speakers with polys in 2000 Durango. Polys are stiff especially when new and had little low end delivery at low to med volume. Though handy with tools I did not feel confident to hook-up to stock head unit myself. Professional installation and set-up gave an OK boost with some dead zones, but was acceptable - for about a year. Then became all fuzzy and worse than unusable. Crutchfield tech said I probably blew it out playing it too loud to get enough base feel. Ah, isn't that what it's supposed to do? So, no help, and now just occupies space under passenger seat. Also, there was no effective way, mechanical or glue, to attach the remote volume control to the underside of the dash. Just falls off no matter what I tried and there's no access to pass into the dash or mount it from behind - poorly thought out with no execution.

Pros: Nice size, OK'ish performance when it worked.

Cons: Not enough punch for the money, poor electronics build quality, pain in the neck to install in some vehicles..

BOOM! - Sound Ordnance B-8PTD

RebelDave from Uniondale, NY on 6/27/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Big things come in little packages. This sub definitely packs a punch considering the size. I intended on placing the sub in the trunk of my VW Jetta but after receiving it I realized it would work much better placed right underneath the drivers seat. I do not have to turn the knob control that comes with the unit up more than half way to receive a clean, crisp sounding bass. Other configurations with my head unit have been done to make the overall sound better so I definitely recommend assistance with the setup if you're not an audiophile. My only gripe is that the unit does not cover the lows as well as the highs.

Pros: -Small unit with a large sound.

Cons: -Lows are not well defined

Got a little boom

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A lot of searching to find something to add a little extra to my YJ. Fit prefectly under the rear seat and was easy to install. Sounds great and was just what I was looking for.

Pros: Easy to install. Improved the overall sound of my system.

Cons: None yet.

Just didn't hold up

Sean from Port Angeles, WA on 6/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit behind the seat in a day cab Kenworth Truck. Running my full range speakers off of deck power I figured it would be enough bass. I had to turn it almost all the way up but with that done it did all right considering how small it is. I really wasn't expecting to rattle any windows just a little bottom end to fill out the sound. So all in all I would have rated this with 4 stars but then it quit working yesterday. Only 6 months old and it just quit. Really disappointed with build quality... even for the money I still expected at least a year of trouble free. Crutchfield has been great though... no hassle .. they had me test the voltage on the supply to make sure it wasn't in there and then gave me an RMA number to replace it. I went ahead and ordered the infinity basslink for a bit more punch and will use this in another vehicle after it is replaced. So 2 stars for unit but 5 stars for Crutchfield customer service.

Pros: Small package to fit in tight spaces and sounds o.k. considering size

Cons: Build quality just doesn't hold up

suits my system well

m.o. from Hastings, NE on 6/23/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this to add bass to a system I just replaced all speakers and headunit. The sound was good but was missing the definit bass sound. Clarity was their and great mid tones. But deep bass was absent. So by reading reviews on Sound Ordnance B-8PTD had a lot of positive reviews. So I went with it and I am glad I did. The size fits great in my 1994 F 150 regular cab. And the sound is great for my needs. But must say if you want window vibrating thumping. This is not for you. It's a great set up for adding the lows alot of 6 x 9 speakers can't produce without the distortion.

Pros: Compact, all in one unit. Easy adjustments.

Cons: Mounting brackets don't work well on carpet. Screw broke through the holes when tighten down.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2003 dodge dakota and this fit perfect. I am 16 and if you are looking to wake the neighbors up this is not the powered sub you want. This sub just fills in that bass that your door speakers cannot hit as good. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because the connectors for the ground and power cable that were supplied with the powered sub are to big to fit into the outlets on the sub. No big deal I just cut a little bit off the connector an it fit. And also it didn't fit under my seat a little disappointed but oh well it doesn't take up much space anyways. But all in all it sounds good for an 8in sub I would recommend it to anyone who wants a little bass.

Pros: Small Good sound Good quality

Cons: Connectors don't fit Didn't fit under seat

for the money this cant be beat esp in a truck. Put this in my 13 ram truck and i am well pleased. This fits under the seat great and for one 8 inch sub it sounds great. If you want full range sound with a little bump you can feel get this !!!! if you want ppl to hear ya 3 miles away this probably aint for you. love the fact it comes with a wiring kit right now and they finally put a set of hard mounts for the sub. The remote switch alows for adjustment on the fly if you relly want to crank it up !!!! A+++++++

Pros: small, easy to install, free wiring at this time through crutchfield, big sound, love it !!

Cons: none that i can think of

S/O B-8PTD Dodge ram

Juergs from Thibodaux, LA on 6/14/2014

I bought this a couple years ago and put it in my dodge ram. Took the middle front seat out and custom installed it there. I'm not a fan of this. Of course, my truck already had the 7 speaker infinity sound system but I was looking for a little more bass. It did give me a little more on the low end but not much. Also, the unit (speaker I think) has blown for the second time. I sent it back to Crutchfield the first time and they fixed it for free. Now, I'm done with this thing. I guess you get what you pay for. If you don't have any bass in your car right now, this will probably work but it's not for me.

Pros: small and in-expensive

Cons: speaker is cheap in design

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD

J man from Mullica Hill, N.J. on 6/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is solid as a brick in build quality! About as easy to install as they come, even with the less than perfect instruction manual. Plenty of bass for me; almost too much. I am still experimenting with the adjustments to get the sound just right for my taste. I think the sound would be even better using the pre-amp inputs, but I had no choice but to use speaker inputs. I mounted it on the rear wall of my Tundra Crewmax so I could slide the rear seat all the way back. The design of the 07 thru 13 Crewmax rear seating does not allow the sub to be mounted under the seat. Folding the seat down flat would cause damage to the sub. All in all, I am very satisfied with this sub, especially for this price!

Pros: Self contained. Easy to install. Well built. Priced right.

Cons: Instruction manual could be better.

Great little sub

Seth from Ny, ny on 6/11/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the sub for my 2009 hyundai accent and it was dead on arrival. I called Crutchfield on a Sunday and the rep was very prompt to troubleshoot and decision was made to send another replacement on the spot. When the replacement arrived, I was pleasantly surprised on how perfectly it fit completely under the passenger seat. The seat has plenty of room to move forward and backward without touching the sub. As far as sound quality it is awesome. The sub provides more than adequate bass. You won't rattle the trunk door or the pants of the guy next to you at a red light but for my level of bass it's perfect. The remote bass level control is perfect and used 3 m double sided tape since the included tape was useless. In general it's perfect for my application and the price rocked which even came with a free amp wire kit.

Pros: Awesome punch for a small compact car. Guys perfectly under the passenger seat of a 2009 hyundai accent. Simple easy to setup. Comes with a cool decal and no frills.

Cons: The double sided tape on the remote control was useless but no other cons at all.

These sound great

Mike B from Turtle Creek, NC on 6/11/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These sound great for not that much money. Really thump and do not take up too much room. I've had 4 of them. Two in the current car.

Pros: Low profile big sound.

Cons: A little quirk where the power screws on can arc between the connection and the body. Just put a piece of electrical tape on.

Inner ear

Merell from Atlanta Ga. on 6/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a Product that's perfect for someone who loves listening to music. Because it's the perfect listening device for compact sound with a huge sound as though it's from a much larger device. At first I didn't want to go with this compontent device, but I'm glad I did the sound for the size is wonderful. So I say this to others out there that want to save some funds for a really good sounding device. I would say go with this device for really good sound. Also the Quility is there as well as the durability.

Pros: The pros are the sound and Quility is there but, for more punch in the sound you'll need to step up to a bigger component in size as well as power.

Cons: This particular component is great for your average listening sound with enough punch to get the job done without fail, but to raise the bar in depth you'll need to invest in a larger component of its size to really get the job done in a really deep base way of that kind of sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love music and enjoy premium sound. But this sub is just not doing it for me. Ya, I can here it, but doesn't have quality sound. Did my research before buying and mostly good reviews so id figure id give it a try. Will be sending it back and going another route. Love Crutchfield, been purchasing from for years. I know they will take it back and I will see what I will attempt next.

Pros: Compact, easy to install

Cons: Not strong bass at all. My stock speakers drown it out.

Nice Product, But Not For Me

matty777 from Seattle, WA on 6/5/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was wanting an all-in-one bass solution for my 2006 4Runner Sport. Read the good reviews on this product and decided to give it a shot. Initially installed it under the front passenger seat. Spent some time finagling with the sub's onboard settings (XO, Boost, Level, Phase), as well as my HU's EQ (7-band Sony) and got a pretty good sound coming out for most tracks. However, right off the bat, I noticed that this sub tended to "disappear" at certain spots in certain tracks, specifically during bass-intensive rap/hip-hop tracks (this is where you could argue that I should have been shopping for a different product to start with, and you're probably right). I found that I could massage some of the settings here and there to alleviate some of this "emptiness", and while this would solve some problems, it would create others. After perhaps a week of having the sub under the front seat, I decided to try putting it in the trunk, instead. There were pros and cons to this arrangement; overall, most tracks sounded better, but the tracks that were just "OK" before now sounded much worse. I thought "eh, I can live with this", but after 3 total weeks now I've decided that I don't want to have to compromise with the sound, so I'll be looking to upgrade to something in the 300+W RMS range. I don't want to fault the product at all, I simply think that, based on the size of my car and the music I like, I should have been shopping for a different product from the start.

Pros: Very low profile, nice adjustments, probably a good solution for small spaces or low-to-moderately heavy bass demands. Comes with multiple mounting options. Outer shell seems highly durable.

Cons: In a large volume or with heavy bass demands, this unit struggles to keep pace.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

No bass at all , more sounds like noise more the rumble. Putting it together was a pain. The high gage wire wouldn't fit in the inputs. If I crank it up it sounds like it's going to explode . Waste of money. It might sound good if you had 6 of them under every seat. I do not recommend this product. You are better off buying a well known brand like alpine or kenwood .

Pros: It fits anywhere

Cons: It doesn't sound good at all, no matter what genre you listen too

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very surprised at the sound this little thing can produce. Fills out my 07 Tacoma nicely. I highly recommend installing and using the sub remote. I was on the fence about using it and I'm glad I did. I am using it all the time as some songs don't need as much bass as others. It is a nice option and overall I am very please with the purchase.

Pros: Easy installation and very user friendly.

Cons: It did not fit under my Tacoma front seat as I had hoped. Instead I have it on the floor board in back and it is just fine there.

Can't beat it!

B.J. Vodron from Midland, TX on 5/23/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, this thing can't be beaten. I put it in my work truck (2013 F150 Crew) where space is limited due to equipment I have to carry. The entire thing took me about 30 minutes start to finish (although I already had a nice accessible +12VDC source and used www.the12volt.com for vehicle specific wiring for door speakers) and I must say it exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for pavement-pounding lows then you're looking at the wrong equipment anyway. Hits pretty hard and once tuned, goes good with EVERY kind of music. I listen to it all.

Pros: Price first and foremost. Installation is a breeze, it requires no line-out adapters or anything, just tie it right into the factory speaker wiring, give it power and go. Sound for the size is GREAT.

Cons: Haven't found any yet!

Great way to add some bass. Reasonably compact. It isn't going to rattle like a set of 12" subs in a big box with an amp but will provide good tight bass in a relatively compact space.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great sub without even considering the size. Its excellent for a powered, small sub, and I'd even say its better than some bigger subs. Its definitely worth the money.

Pros: Easy to install. Has a knob to adjust bass levels without having to go to the actual sub. It fits under and behind seats.

Cons: Haven't found any yet. It suits all my needs.

adds some bass but crutchfield is out standing

The speaker itself is very good for a little 8inch sub, the remote doesnt work for some reason, but im a 15 year old guy who knows nothing and I was having problems and crutchfields customer service is outstanding and saved me.

Pros: Crutchfield, small

Cons:

Not what I was hoping for....

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well, I was disappointed in this product. It delivers some bass, but it is not very clear and distorts rather quickly when you turn it up. I think the stock sub in my 2011 Grand Cherokee is far superior. Keep in mind I was not looking to shake my whole Jeep, but I wanted something with a little thump for when I have the top off. This definitely left me disappointed and wanting more. I ran a LOC of the back of the factory radio to use RCA cable for better sound. That didn't work out so good. I had a bazooka tube in and old jeep wrangler and it would blow this sound ordnance out of the water....

Pros: Compact

Cons: Not a very deep or clear bass

Great product for its size

Jim from Boise, ID on 5/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you are looking at this unit because it is relatively small and you lack room but want some bass, this is a perfect product. If you try to compare it to a standard subwoofer, you are an idiot and obviously cannot read other feedback left for the product. For the size and price, it is a fantastic unit that worked so well straight out of the box. Easy to mount (sounds like they have improved the options because I had no issues) and great sound for its compact size. Highly recommended. All cons are very minor. Installed in 1993 Ford Ranger XLT and it is perfect for that application. Couldn't ask for more.

Pros: -Compact size, -Price, -Easy to mount, -Easy setup, -Clean looking when complete,

Cons: -not meant to replace a full sized sub, -same argument about small terminals, -instructions very sparse, -should have plastic cover to protect terminals

love it

The look on my teenagers face after I hooked on it up was priceless.. I was looking at adding some bass to my stock stereo on my 2013 F150, was looking for something that would fit under my seat(fits perfect). When I first opened the box and pulled it out my son said that's it..that little thing and kinda laughed.. but after the installation we put it to a good test with all kinds of music.. rap, rock, county and pop it performed flawlessly.. his jaw dropped and to be honest so did mine..it's not going to shake the neighbors windows but it filled in that low in that I was looking for..I highly recommend it

Pros: Size, and sound, and thanks Crutchfield for the installation kit

Cons: Nothing.. Love it

I added this to my 2010 JK Sport 2 door. I put it under the passenger seat. It fills the void that I used to notice with my system. I have a stock radio but upgraded the sound bar and dash speakers with Kickers from Crutchfield. I also added Pioneer tweeters in place of the stock. I listen to mostly rock and classic rock and this unit is perfect. It has a good amount of punch and makes me feel the lows that were missing. A great value and addition. It is completely hidden as is the remote so everything retains the stock look.

Pros: Compact, good punch, easy to install out of sight under my seat, value.

Cons:

I have an 09 Wrangler unlimited with a KDC-X597 head unit . I used The low level inputs .The sub fit right in the cargo compartment on the deck behind the back seat . I have it with the speaker facing down (which seems to sound better than facing up ) It fits without any modding whatsoever , just wedge it in there?? Wires that come with the kit reach what they need to regarding the subs location. This little box really booms! Only when I have the volume above what normal humans my age can tolerate does it start to drop. Settings are easy to get to And remote knob is very convenient Works like a charm

Pros: Small Fits anywhere Sounds great

It's not going to shake the windows like the kids like. But it really is a great addition for a daily driver.. HIGHLY recommend this one..

Cons: Not tremendous amount of bass, but nice and punchy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What it is: a compact powered sub. How many I have: 2, 1 in a super crew f150, 1 in a 4 door jeep wrangler. F150: wired inline on stock stereo getting feed from rear speaker lines. Jeep: RCA lines to sub from Pioneer deck. Pioneer deck has hi and low pass settings. Both installations sound good. The Pioneer deck has HPF and LPF which lets you clean up the imaging of the sound better than a factory deck with a full range feed from speaker lines. On both I am satisfied with the performance in both. I feel limitations in the Ford are driven more by the factory installation than the sub. Sub line feeds and HPF/LPF from a good deck go a long way for good imaging. I look for a sub to round out sound not rattle windows. Kick drums to be tight, bass guitar to not be muddy. The Ford install tends to be a little muddy. The jeep install is cleaner and tight.

Pros: Compact efficient design.

Cons: None

Andy from Kansas on 5/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Scion FR-S, and the stock audio is pretty anemic, and no matter that the stock Pioneer says "satellite ready," there are no options for adding a satellite tuner. I added a Sony WX-GT90BT for satellite capability, and the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD to round out the low-end. I have been very happy with the amount of control I can exert from the H/U to this sub, and the sound is nice without being muddy and boomy. I really control most of the functionality of the sub with the H/U, so I can't really speak to the controls on the amp.

Pros: Sounds fine from the trunk.

Cons: Will absolutely NOT fit under the seat of an FR-S / BRZ.

nice sound from a compact unit

DaveL from Eastern MA on 5/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have only had one other car with a subwoofer, so don't have a good basis for comparison, but on an absolute basis, this sub did exactly what I hoped for. It filled in the low end very nicely, without creating overwhelming thump. My only complaint about the unit is that it is hard to get 10 gauge wire connected to the terminals. The manufacturer should spend another dollar and upgrade the terminal the 12V and ground terminals. I almost downgraded to 4 stars for this issue, but I was able to get the connections made, so based the rating on my impressions of the sound for the price. For context, I added this sub to a system with an Alpine head unit, Alpine booster amp, Polk speakers in the front doors, Kicker speakers in the rear doors, and factory tweeters.

Pros: nice sound for the price, compact size. Fit nicely under the seat of my 2001 Forester.

Cons: terminals work, but could be better.

Big sound, small package.

CrazyCarl from Centreville, VA on 5/4/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed this little sub on a 2004 Nissan Frontier CC 4x4. Very little room behind the rear seat so options are limited. It was between this and the Kicker, but given the same size driver, wattage, includes line-level RCA inputs (really Kicker?) and a free wiring kit, it's was pretty much a no-brainer. Install is very straightforward and the free/included amp wiring kit was just enough to get this properly mounted behind the back seat to the rear cabin wall. If the amp's remote wire had been even 2 inches shorter, it wouldn't have worked with my routing down the passenger side of the vehicle. For larger vehicles, I expect you would need to run the remote line straight back under your console if possible. Only played it out for about one hour at this point, but overall very happy with the sound. It fills the cabin with punchy bass and can not be heard much outside (which I think is great). So far I would say best for Rock oriented music, but still a major improvement for electronic beat based programming. The instruction manual needs serious proofreading. The included plastic mounting clamps and self tapping sheet metal screws work fine as long as you have a clear surface. I see lots of reviews of people keeping these units loose in the cabin (not hard mounting) and suspect they may not be getting the most from the unit. Since you're not displacing a lot of air, using the body as a resonating mass makes a difference, so don't be lazy.

Pros: - Great sound from a small unit - Can't beat the price or free wiring kit (available at time of purchase) - Fits almost anywhere - Perfect unit for audiophiles who want more low-end than door speakers but don't need to rattle surrounding license plates. -Well built for the money

Cons: - Manual is a joke but thankfully the product isn't all that complicated. - Remote wire could be a little longer for larger cars

Compact size makes an easy fit under a truck seat. Provides plenty on bass to rattle the entire truck when turned up and the included bass knob makes for easy adjustment song to song.

I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler and I installed in an hour or maybe less. That was really easy to install it. I place it under the driver seat and fit perfectly. I can control the sound from my head unit and sound like if I have an expensive big sub.the only modification I did was remove the mall plate from under the seat.

Pros: Small and easy to install fit perfectly under front seat.

Cons: None

The sub really hits. I actually had to dial it back a good bit since I was not amping the whole system and just upgrading the speakers and leaving the stock head unit. The install kit has all you need. However, don't let the info kid you about not having to run a remote wire and using the hi-level signal only. That was a joke. You will need a remote wire.

Pros: Sounds good.

Cons: The hi-level input that says it allows you to not need a remote wire .....nope. Doesn't work well. At least with a low wattage stock head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to admit, when I opened the box, i could not believe how such a small and shallow unit could generate all those great reviews. Still, I forged ahead and installed this unit under the drivers seat of my wife's 2004 CR-V. And while it won't entertain the whole block, it is more than enough for this small car and the cars next to you at the stoplight will hear it too. I have been around professional PA sound systems for over 20 years and come from the old school where the only way to make bass is to move air, and the only way to move air is with large woofers. So I was completely amazed at the sound from this little box. I would buy another one tomorrow. And the free wiring kit was perfect. Not one trip to the hardware store for a last minute anything.

Pros: price, performance, ease of install, value

Cons: none

This product solves the low end lack of nearly all factory radios, What is more, for the price, from someone who has been around car audio for more than 20 years, there is no better bang for the buck from a combined amp and sub on the market today. Not to mention nothing even close to as compact. I would have probably gotten rich if this had existed in the mid 90's. Young dude installing systems to get by and all.

Pros: Compact, Sound range very adequate. Price unbeatable

Cons: For those looking to go huge no expandability.

To start with installed in a 1994 Jeep Wrangler. WOW! I guess what they say is true...."Good things come in small packages". I really didn't expect a lot out of such a tiny box but I was wrong. At first the sound was a little muddied but after deciding to actually fasten the unit to the floor of the Jeep it got real clean. I mounted it under the rear flip seat and it actually fits. It really fills in that missing quality from 4 x 6's. I'm afraid to go past half volume on it because it might shake this tired old Jeep apart. I will be getting another one to put in my pick-up truck.

Pros: Small size good sound

First off when it came to adding some BUMP in the trunk i always went the old school way Subwoofer, box And Amp. and that's how i always done beat in my cars. Tha'ts until my grandpa sold his 97 Ford club wagon to my Dad and I, of course i wasnt going to dive that thing without upgrading the sound system witch it needed badly with the speakers all blown out. I changed the head unit for a JVC KWR710 and some MTX speakers thunder series. but i wand to and some bass without having a BIG BOX in the back that i Know i will have to take out for family road trips. so i started looking into some Powered subwoofers and came across this B-8PTD. i Read reviews before buying for a little inside view, When i connected it i just expected it just to bump. BUT I WAS IN FOR A BIG SURPRISE!!!! THE B8-PTD GOES BOOM!!!! i was amazed on how hard this little thing HITS!!! i love it better then the 10" i have in my car! i highly recommend this great product to everyone.

Pros: it hits Harder than you think!!!

Cons: None its a great powered sub!!!!!

This seemed like a good way to add some bottom end to a very tinny sounding installation in a classic Chevy truck and reviews were good. When I first installed it I was very disappointed. I could barely tell that it was working with the engine off. With engine on there was no discernible difference between high and low positions on the remote control knob. I had installed it using the pre-outs from the head unit to the low level inputs on the sub. Wondering if the head unit could be at fault I connected the line-outs from the head unit to the low power inputs. Wow what a difference. The thing came alive. I doubt Crutchfield would recommend this and you definitely need to keep the sub remote control turned down but it completely changed my impression of this unit. It is a bit boomy but for it's size and price it packs a wallop, if you're creative in terms of how you hook it up.

Pros: Size, value

Cons: Can be sensitive to a low pre-out signal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amp install novice, reliving the glory days and trying to hold onto my youth! Used stock F150 head unit, in doing so I used the speaker line level inputs for both the SO unit and Alpine Power pack for the door speakers. Alpine amp worked great right away, SO unit not so much. Technical Support at Crutchfield suggested to hook up the remote wire, even though SO instructions say it was not needed. The "high level inputs" do not send a strong enough signal to power the unit. Once I connected the remote wire all is well and it is working as expected. So to sum up; 1- Use a line out converter or the JL speaker to RCA wires if you are using a stock head unit. 2- Connect the remote wire. 3- Don't expect this unit to thump like a mono amp and sub, it won't meet that expectation. It sounds like a higher quality factory sound system, which is what I was shooting for. 4- Unit fit perfectly under the psgr seat of my truck. 5- Find the wiring harness diagram for your vehicle ahead of time so you can preplan your attack. Hardest part is running the wire.

Pros: Cost, free amp wiring kit with purchase, would recommend this unit

Cons: Moderate quality sound-but you get what you pay for

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted it behind the back seat of an F350 Crewcab. I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass out of such a small sub. Fills the bottom end nicely and adds a little thump when you want it. Doesn't have the extension at the very low end that a larger sub would have. Bass guitar frequencies are this subs specialty. I wanted to hard mount it vertically and thought the attachment tabs were kind of flimsy. It takes a 3 handed juggling act to do it. If your expectation level is realistic, I highly recommend this sub.

Pros: Performance / Size Easy connection options Remote volume control Price

Cons: Mounting options not great

Here I am, 36 years old, two kids, and thinning hair. The thrilling days of rattling my neighbors windows with mind-blowing bass are long gone. It's time to make sensible decisions in life. But there is still a part of me that wants to crank up the bass when the kids aren't around. The B-8PTD is the perfect solution. It fits perfectly under the seat of my old 4Runner so I retain all that precious cargo space which is now used for hauling junk from the hardware store and strollers. The additional bass is perfect, I was pleasantly surprised by how much sound comes from an 8" speaker. The unit itself feels heavy and high quality. The remote knob is great because you can turn down the bass when you are playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the way to day care, and crank it up on the way back when Beastie Boys - Paul Revere comes on the radio. I shopped around for similar units on another online retailer, and while I found some that were a little cheaper, there seemed to be a lot of negative user reviews. Additionally, Crutchfield included the wiring kit so it was definitely worth the money. Bottom line, if you're looking to give your sound a little extra kick without sacrificing space, then this sub/amp combo is perfect. If you're looking to annoy neighbors and other drivers with loud bass and crappy music choices, then your search must continue.

Pros: compact size, good sound, good value

This sub is small and feels very well built. In my mind I was going to install this on the side of my MKV GTI's hatch area so the small size was the key reason I choose this over the other powered sub options. Once I went to install I noticed this would fit below the carpet area and next to my full size spare tire. The sub has all the sounds adjustments I could ask for. Once I had it tuned to my stereo and other speakers I'm very happy and getting more bump than I expected. The included corded volume dial has been key since sometimes you want to turn up the bump and show it off and sometimes you like to tone it down and enjoy the ride. I have zero regrets.

Pros: Small size, built well, good sound.

Cons: The main power & ground connection terminals are a little smaller than I'd like but I made it work. Mounting options are not very extensive but since I installed this into the trunk foam it was no problem for me.

I bought this for my daughters 06 Jeep Liberty. I have put it under the rear, drivers side seat, which does fit. The only issue is that the seat now wont lay flat. (which wasnt a big deal for us) We just felt it was better than being exposed in the back. The unit was very easy to install. Setup was easy as well, of course the biggest part of the setup which is ultimately going to get you the best sound is at the head unit. Bottom line, its a great plug and play sub. It will enhance the overall bass response and give you a much fuller sound. I would say that you should have realistic expectations, as it is not going to blow the doors off, but again, does provide some significant improvement.

Pros: Easy to install, very compact, super easy setup. the included harness was an added bonus for sure.

Cons: Not quite as full of sound as you could get in a sub with enclosure, but thats the price you pay for the compact size.

I typically don't write reviews this close to when I purchase and install an item, so I will only address my first impressions of this powered sub. I mounted it in a 99 Hardtop Corvette on the trunk divider I have installed behind my seat. I first tried to mount it directly behind my seat but I found I didn't have enough leg room. I'm 6'. I chose not to mount it behind the pass seat because I didn't want it bothering passengers. The hook up is fairly simple. Power wire through fire wall, grounding cable to the seat bolt. Run the RCA's to the head unit, run the control switch back to the dash area. I don't have anything to really compare it to as I have never had a boomy sub, except the system I installed in my son's car, but I didn't really listen to that all that much. I find this powered sub does exactly what I wanted it to do. It fills in the lower bass notes nicely that I was missing from my system. As others have said, it doesn't shake the neighbors windows, but it does add those lower bass notes that are typically lacking in a non sub system. In a car as small as a vette this is more than adequate. It doesn't give you that chest pumping feel of a 15" sub, but it does complete my system nicely. I don't suggest trying to install it in a trunk, I feel it's best mounted and used in conjunction with your cabin speakers. My system. Booming

mdlbldrnt from Sioux Falls Sd on 4/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in an older station wagon. This unit is just the right size for this type of car in my opinion. Great enhanced bass to go with the new speakers I installed. Original speakers were shot. It is compact so I still have cargo room which was my main concern. The controls are easy to use, the hookups are simple and the sound is booming. I love having a remote bass control for the unit on the dash. That is a handy feature. I am still using the original head unit and it didn't have enough power to turn this unit on so I had to add the remote wire to a keyed12V connection. Works perfectly for my use.

Pros: compact, powerful, good controls, simple installation, bass control on the dash

Cons: Positive, Negative wire screw terminals are too small. Was difficult to get the 10ga wire to push in cleanly. It worked, but would have liked larger connection terminals since the larger gauge wire is needed.

Good Product for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased to go under the seat in my 97 F 150. I read a bunch of reviews before buying this powered sub, and when it arrived and I saw just how small it really was, I was a little concerned that it wouldn't sound good. After installing the sub (and new head unit, ,four speakers, and 45w speaker amp) I was surprised at how well the sub sounded. This is not a neighborhood shaking bass but blends very well with the new stereo. I listen to mostly ROCK and so far (2 Weeks) I must say this is a great product for the price .

Pros: Easy to install, fits in tight location, good sound

Cons: None as of this review

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed this about 2 weeks ago, and it's done everything I wanted it to do and more. It fills in my bass perfectly when my mids and tweeters are up, and rumbles when my mids and tweeters are low. It's not going to wobble your trunk, but it's punchy and boomy the right amount for what I'm looking for. I recommend under the seat for the best sound.

Pros: Great sound, stronger than it would seem like could come from the box.

Cons: If you're looking for a window-rattler, you need something bigger.

David G from Odebolt IA on 3/31/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I personally love it. It's small but still a tad bit large for 04 Ram 1500 quad cab some modification under left rear seat was needed to fold the seat down properly. But there is not a lot of space in this truck for a woofer if you want to keep the rear seating. The unit works flawlessly giving deep rich tones, perfect for an old man and classic rock and roll.

Pros: good rich bass in a compact unit very easy to install with supplied wire harness.

Cons: Power supply post on unit a little small for 10 gauge wire. A very minor, very short lived problem. A couple ears on the case with screw holes would be handy for mounting don't care for the tape so I used small bungee cords, again very minor. Had to modify the compartment lid under the rear passenger seat of my 04 RAM 1500 quad-cab to have room for the seat to fold down properly. Cut the hinges removed top two folds and re-install the bottom piece to mount the unit onto.

Ron from Cary, NC on 3/26/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This subwoofer works perfect in my 2005 MINI Cooper S Convertible. It is not going to make the cars next to you rattle, but it adds just the right amount of bass to the music and adds a nice kick to the MINI. If you are looking to shake your neighborhood, this is not the subwoofer for you, but if you are looking for a nice added punch of bass to the music and to take the pressure off of your full-range speakers, this is your subwoofer. It also does not take up the entire trunk, and it fits nicely in the cargo area of the MINI.

Pros: Great sound, easy to install, and easy to configure. Also a great space-saver.

Cons: No cons for me, but for some, it may not be the intense head rattling thump that they are looking for.

Sound Ordinance Pretty good

Mike in Spokane from Spokane ,WA on 3/25/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sub, for an 8" powered unit is pretty good. It is very punchy, with less lows (based off of little experience, I suppose this adequately describes my point). As I had no sub, this is a great addition to my '06 tundra which has 0 space available to hide a sub unless one is willing to spend 700+ dollars. The last set up I owned was 2 10" JL Audio subs in a box within an extended cab Tacoma ... Granted this sounded much better! I understand this is only an 8 and for what it is and the fact that I was able to hide under my passenger seat I give it 4 stars. Boomier lows would have scored it 5 stars.

Pros: Small and tints under passenger seat

Cons: To punchy, not boomy enough for my taste.

Fits very well under front passenger 2000 Durango seat.

Nick from Ohio on 3/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If I could offer 4.5 stars, that's what I'd make it. Since I can't, I'll vote up to a 5-star. Installation was simple and to the point. I have installed a sub in 13 years, but the elements are all the same. I was surprised to find this tucked nicely underneath the front passenger seat. My next rider will be in for a shock. I did initially have some trouble with the sub refusing to produce any sound. The LED was on and the high level wires were receiving signal, but no matter what I did (removed wires, power cycled the sub, etc) no sound would emit from the sub. Finally, literally seconds from giving up, I (again) disconnected the high levels and reconnected and BAM, output. I honestly don't know what the issue was (sub was set to Remote Line to turn it on and was jumped from the +12v lead during initial testing), but I haven't had a problem since. I would tend to blame a loose wire on my part before I blame the sub, unless you read other reviews of a similar issue. As a product of the 90's, I'm revisiting that decade's alt rock and hip hop. Frankly, some songs hit very well with this sub, and some sound muddy. The ones that hit cleanly sound GREAT, the muddy songs could be from the MP3 the stereo is playing or just poor bass in the song. In general, though, it was well worth the cost and install. It rounds out the highs and mids from the OEM gear nicely.

Pros: Initially, I was unimpressed with the sub's output and the songs sounded lackluster. Frankly, I was disappointed. However, after further adjusting the controls, it hits much more cleanly and sounds more punchy. Much more impressed and happy now. Certain songs sound great, others not so much. On the songs that it sounds good, it sounds GREAT with and it's a pleasure to have in the truck.

Cons: It's not a 10" or 12"? That'd be nice, but I was after something I could tuck away and forget about. Aside from the initial no-sound-output issue which inexplicably resolved itself, I have no cons.

Great little sub/amp

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub/amp is compact, I have a 2012 Scion Iq and needless to say space is a premium. I was easily able to connect the sub/amp to my AVH-7500bt with the supplied amp kit (10 gage). Still need to tweak it a little but the bass is very defined and noticeable. Like most reviewers stated it's not going to shatter any Windows but you can feel it. I have it right under my drivers seat and I definitely enjoy the addition it adds to my small system. I didn't hook up the wired remote but did plug it in to test it out and it works great. Overall very satisfied with the sub and the fact that it comes with a standard 3 year warranty is icing on the cake. I would highly recommend it if you are like me and have limited space to work with.

Pros: Awesome bass and ease of set up. Great warranty, though Ihope never to have to use it tthough it's peace of mind that it's there.

Cons: None that I can think of.

I installed this in a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport. It fit under the drivers seat perfectly and with the free EFX 10-gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit, it was a breeze to install.

Pros: We love the base it puts out. The radio system sounds 100 percent better with the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD subwoofer.

Cons: The velgro that came with the subwoofer wouldn't stick to the carpet. Luckily, I was able to shorten the wires and the seat adjustable arm keeps it secure.

Tucson Trike

Tucson Triker from Tucson, AZ on 3/17/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this Sound Ordnance to complete a sound system on my Styre Trike. I built a rack for it to fit on the floor pan of the trike, firing upwards into the body of the trike. Since the bass is non directional, this works very well to enable me to not only hear the bass but to "feel" it as well. Really a cool speaker and the sound is perfect.

Pros: The adjustments on the speaker enabled me to dial in the sound I wanted.

Cons: The bass sound is not overpowering (probably due to the "openess" of the speaker location) but the punch is the perfect sound I was after to complete the driving experience. So I'm not sure this is a "Con".

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to install into a regular cab 86' S10. I was excited to install this after receiving it. The finish and feel was excellent as was the packaging. But the bass it produces was not really clean or accurate or powerful. It did give a rather weak "thump" I didn't think it was worth keeping. Keep in mind I wasn't expecting it to pound like a JL w6, but i wanted it to fill out the cab with some nice solid low end. I would not recommend this unit to anyone!!

Pros: Finish, looks nice.

Cons: Not powerful enough. Not very clean or accurate.

Nice upgrade for my 2013 Altima

VinnyA from Barnegat, NJ on 3/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm 32 and I've had a few big systems in the past. I recently traded in my 2012 C300 for the 2013 Nissan Altima. Car downsizing for family upsizing. The c300 had the Harman Kardon system with 12 speakers and the Altima has the 6 speaker non-bose system. Needless to say, I was completely taken aback. The stock system is terrible. I'm in the process of upgrading the whole system. First step in the process was something to round out the low end and this sub really did the trick. I'm not looking to set off alarms anymore. Just well rounded, clear sound. I also bought a pair of Rock Fosgate 6.5 components and Alpine 6X9's to run with an Alpine 4X50 RMS amp. The sub was an instant and needed improvement. Nice low end. I had it installed under the passenger seat and the gain control is right in the dash. Great when the wife's in the car. Look forward to installing the rest of the system and giving this sub a chance to break in.

Pros: Great low end for the price. The gain/volume control is an excellent addition.

Great sub in a Wrangler TJ

Michael M from Schenectady, NY on 3/13/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace a larger sub and amp that were taking up all my truck space in my Wrangler TJ. This easily tucks under the back seat and gives enough bass to fill in the sound. You can't push it too hard or it will distort, but once the levels are dialed in it fills in the lower frequencies nicely without any problems. If you have a Jeep and want a full sound without needing to shake the neighborhood, this is a nice space saving option.

Pros: Compact

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I waited about a month before reviewing so that the sub was broken in. It fits perfectly under the middle back seat of my 2013 F150. I used the speaker level inputs. The sound is good, but required a significant amount of time spent tweaking of the various controls. If you're adding this to a stock head unit, be aware that the output of your HU may not be enough to turn on the sub via the "Auto" setting. Mine was not, and I ended up having to run a remote wire.

Pros: Compact size Good sound Great price

Cons: Auto turn on is not very sensitive. Lots of fiddling to produce good sound

I wanted to mount this underneath my front seat but there isn't much room there even for this sub. I decided to mount the sub in the center of my extended cab right behind the front seat. Looks good and sounds great! Like the other reviews said: You won't rattle any windows but you will certainly crack a smile whenever you turn up your system! Can't beat the value on this one! Buy!

Pros: Super small, low price, easy install, comes with free wiring kit

Cons: Nothing to report so far...

Bill from NJ Shore on 3/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did some research and based on price, size (to fit under truck back seat) and other buyers reviews and purchased this unit. I am running a stock head unit and did upgrade the door speakers through Crutchfield not long ago. The issue I had prior to installing this sub is that the speakers would get distorted if I turned up bass and volume. Now I can turn the bass down on the door speakers and then the sub fills in the difference....works out well. I did the install myself and I'm a novice at best...I did use what is called a "Fuse Tap" to run the power on/off from amp to fuse box, this is something I found out about through trial and error. It seems to be a good way thus far, got one at auto parts store. It probably took me about 3 hours or so to do the install, but if I did it again I could probably do it much faster.

Pros: Price, size, sound. Remote bass control knob is nice to have.

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am definately a novice at car audio installation so it took me five hrs to install this sub, but I wanted to do it right and with the help of Crutchfield's excellent technical assistance and their install videos, I pulled it off. When I finally powered the sub up, for some reason it didn't sound that great, but of course I was tired after the lengthy installation, anyway the next day I really took some time to get all the settings on my head unit and the sub just right and all I can say is WOW! This thing really rocks, but you really have to spend the time to dial everything in correctly, its way more than just simply setting everything to the highest level. My JVC head unit allows from 0 - 8, on gain and I have mine set at 6, the sub itself has a remote volume and I only have mine set at the halfway mark. There are many more settings that you will have to play around with to get everything right for your vehicle. Mine is installed under the rear seat of my 2012 Suzuki equator pick up. I also got rid of my factory speakers and went with Crutchfield's recommendations, Rockford Fosgate 65 watt components in the front and Sound Ordnance 50 watt in the rear and the difference between the system I have now and the factory system is like night and day. Oh and there really seems to be a break in period for the speakers and the sub because mine have been in for a couple of weeks and sound much richer now as compared to newly installed. Thanks Crutchfield for a great sounding system!

Pros: Great sound, all in one system with amp, sub, and enclosure.

Cons: Can't think of any cons, except maybe a little tough to install, but I'm no pro at installs anyway.

This sub was recommended by the folks at Crutchfield to go in my Chevy HHR and I guess if all you want is just a little bass or bottom end that sounds like the factory subs that come in some of the nicer cars today then I can say it does a pretty fair job....but if want a sub that has some "umph"to it THIS AIN"T IT!!!! But to be fair, it does what it was designed to do...it gives you a small, slim sub that can fit most anywhere and adds a little bass to your system...just don't expect it to knock your socks off by any stretch...very HO-HUM

Cons: As far as subs go this sub is very weak sounding

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like everything about this sub except for it's response range. I thought I could get over it but I'm about to just send it back. I listen to a lot of dubstep and electronic music and it just doesn't go low enough. I can hear it start to attenuate once the music hits the low lows and the sound comes back at the higher lows. Overall It sounds great, puts out a lot of sound and doesn't distort unless you are being stupid with it. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend with the warning that if you listen to lots of dubstep, move along.

Pros: Compact Easy to install Fits perfectly under front seat Good Sound

Cons: Frequency Response Range is less than ideal for electronic music, especially dubstep.

Davizzle from Orange County, CA on 2/11/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Double Cab 04 Tacoma has very limited space amd I did not want to sacrifice seating area. I'm a research'aholic and spent a few weeks researching and decided on this combo. I am very satisfied. I'm writing this review to also highlight a few things I learned along the way. This is my first sub so I spent a good deal of reading install reviews & watching videos. I should also note I'm a perfectionist. The install took me 5 hours. I ran into a few snags & time spent testing different locations of placement for optimal sound. If you have an aftermarket HU, you need to install the REM wire. If you received the free install kit, install the skinny turquoise wire from REM to your HU. I have a Kenwood deck and needed to splice into the blue with a white line wire. Placement - I had every intention per other reviews to install under the driver seat. It sounded good. I then placed it sideways behind the driver side back seat. Wow. Sounded 2x better. Much deeper bass and the sound filled out the cabin much better. Just to save others time with the same truck, the back seats are pretty much sealed to the ground/carpet. I had the intentions of running the wires under the carpet, or under the seats, but there is no getting underneath. I took my time, did my research, watched install videos and had no problems other than a very lengthy install due to my sealed back seats. This is a great investment for the money. It was either this or a pricey custom box, no thanks!

Pros: Good bass, good size, good price

Cons: Wish they included recommended settings, but every system and user is different

At this point it's PERFECT and a 5 star winner. I should have bought this last year when I purchased replacement speakers via Crutchfield for the stocks. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, this little amplified subwoofer does a great job. The are some negative reviews on this due to the frequency control only going down to 50 Hz... well guess what, that isn't the lowest bass note the speaker will hit. That is only the crossover setting. Controls are fairly easy. Just set the level (volume) to max, or close to it, set the crossover to max, and then make the adjustments with your receiver. Sound quality is very good, get it set right.Installation is perfectly straightforward, despite the vague instructions in the manual. No, Crutchfield does not provide instructions on this one. Bottom line, if you are looking to greatly improve your antiquated stock system and make the music more dynamic and full, this is a great device for a low cost.

Pros: Price, sound quality

Cons: Terminals for power and ground wires are a little small to accommodate the 10 gauge wire. Connectors were not included in the subwoofer box or in the install kit.

I installed this B-8PTD in a 2006 Ford F150 super crew. I am no car audio expert (electronics scare me), but I managed to pull off the installation without a hitch. I've kept the original stock head unit because it does the trick for me and I really don't care for the look of "add on" aftermarkets, not to mention I don't need all the fancy extras (disco lights, etc.). My stock head unit doesn't come with RCA outputs, but that wasn't a problem. This sub can still be installed WITHOUT cutting or splicing the factory truck wires. You CAN add RCA outputs to your 2006 F150 factory radio without cutting or splicing, just search the web. I upgraded my speakers a few years ago thanks to Crutchfield, but I wanted to fill the bass in just a bit more. This product was the key. I'm not a hip hop or rap guy, so this was perfect for my type of music. I used the free wiring kit supplied by Crutchfield for the install and it worked flawlessly. Thanks again, Crutchfield.

Pros: Reasonably priced upgrade for a factory system. Plenty of bass for my needs. Relatively straight forward and easy install (I mean if I can do it.....). Excellent customer service and fast, free shipping.

Before unboxing I was impressed by the military style of the packaging. After opening and getting this sub ready for install, I was worried I may have gone too small, however I soon would be proven wrong. I installed this in my 98 Chevy K 100 XCab with a new JVC head unit, MTX 6.5's, and Kicker 4x6's. This was a quick and easy install and the finished product was an acoustically sound system. I have had many systems in my cars and used to compete in Sound Quality/SPL competitions, but that was back when I was a 16 year old. I just wanted a good sounding system that wouldn't kill my wallet and this was it. The sub is very compact and after dialing in the head unit and the amp I found this sub gave a great punch and decent bass. The bass does not hit at all levels, but I tried it with all different genres of music and I was very happy with its performance. I ran the sub external volume knob after reading another review and it definitely a wise idea. The tech I built my stereo package with was able to get me up and running for 450$$, which was just what I wanted to spend. Thanks again Crutchfield.

Pros: Inexpensive, compact, sounds great, easy to install

Cons: A few screw mounts would have been nice

Ok first off, I am stunned at just how much bass this does in fact put out! I was hoping to add some good bass to my Jeep Wrangler because the factory 4x6" and 4" speakers don't exactly scream power (and that is WITH Polk Audio speakers installed! However, I am not only pleased, but stunned at how good this really is! It's far better than expected and worth every penny!

Pros: Great sound and price, you just can beat it for the price! Really made a massive improvement in sound.

Cons: The lack of mounting holes. On my Jeep, I had to build a heavy gauge plate and hang it from my drivers seat. The floor is not flat, and this allowed me to also keep it high and dry. The lack of mounting provisions required me to heavily engineer a system to retain the sub by clamping that little 1/2 flange on each end. In the end, it was well worth the effort, but having designed it to me mounted, would of made the build easier (although, not as nice looking as it turned out!)

A warning before the good news: 1. Salesman claim you do not need the REM wire, that it will turn on with engine on & turn off automatically if no radio signal is sent. Not true, it will not work - the REM wire must be used. 2. If you Do Not have a stock radio with separate subwoofer RCA jacks or you Did Not buy a new radio with separate Subwoofer RCA jacks the Subwoofer will not work the way it's designed to work. a. You need to Splice into wire harness the Rear Left (+) & (-) wires & the Rear Right (+) & (-) wires. b. Once all that arduous painful effort is complete the only way to control the bass is with your radio's bass control. To turn-up the bass you can ONLY turn up all the speakers at the same time. No separation, nothing but muddy bass - horrible!!! c. the included independent volume control the Sub comes can not be used in this hook-up, it will have no effect - S/O installed in 2001 F-150 XLT 4 door under back seat. 1. (4) new 225 watt Kicker speakers in the doors 2. Alpine HD149BT Radio (RCA jacks yes) REVIEW: subwoofer with this system fills the space so well it merges with the song & you can't tell where the sub is. It completes your sound system & can be cranked up cleanly - no car needs more (some just want more)

Pros: 1. Big Sound that fills the car fits in a very small space, 2. Price is easy on the pocket, 3. self contained Amplifier (nothing else to buy), 4. fine tuning adjustments included on the Subwoofer, 5. housing is metal -very strong/durable, 6. separate volume control allows for adjustments without having to get into your radio's menu to adjust subwoofer, 7. can get loud enough to impress & turn heads, 8. and it can damage your ears (wait that's not a pro is it?)

Cons: Need to run a power wire (supplied) from battery through the firewall under door/floor/carpet molding to back of vehicle (recommended location). *installation note: emergency brake - a foot break (not hand pull) the cable will exit the firewall via a rubber grommet near gas pedal, Pwr wire can follow same Route. - You want to blow eardrums out, make car/truck rattle, get stupid stares from motorist at traffic lights, tick-off neighbors and attract the attention of local Police get a bigger Sub

More power than you'd think

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I added this little 8" sub into the factory stereo in a Dodge Ram club cab by simply connecting to the existing speaker wires. I was expecting "some" additional bump but what I got was A LOT of bass. So much so that I have it set way low just so it doesn't completely over-power the rest of the system. At first it sounded muddy but after adjusting the settings it tightened up considerably. I'm sure it would sound worlds better too on a dedicated sub out and on an aftermarket deck. Note: I'm not a stereo system guru so my impression of good bass might not be the same to someone wanting huge sound.

Pros: Tons of bass and easy to install for the amount of money it cost. It came with the amplifier wiring kit for free and the tech line is nice. Great investment for someone looking for more bass out of what they already have.

Cons: When the sub arrived the "auto start" didn't function so Crutchfield sent another. But I found I wanted to use the "remote on" plug anyways just to assure that the sub doesn't stay on when the key is off and drain the battery.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for my wife's minivan and used the free wiring kit to install the system. I'm not new to amplifier installation so I know I hooked it up correctly. I checked and checked and tried to adjust phasing and everything else with no avail. The bass from this powered subwoofer is of poor quality. The problem is there are too many overtones and the plastic housing and aluminum woofer resonate with an unpleasant sound that ruins the bass sound. Couple this with the fact that this subwoofer doesn't go very low in the frequency range at all. I installed Pioneer 5*8 speakers powered off the factory radio and this subwoofer doesn't hit any lower than those speakers do. All it does is add volume to the bass that these pioneers are capable of but with unpleasant resonance and overtones. I'm picky when it comes to sound quality but when my wife came to me and said she didn't like the sound either that is when I exchanged it for a much better JL Audio CS110-WXv2 subwoofer instead. This of course costs a lot more but you know the old saying you get what you pay for. Good thing Crutchfield has great customer service and a generous return policy. I could have gotten the JL Audio sub elsewhere for less but when there is a problem I would rather have Crutchfield by my side.

Pros: Small and compact, fits under seat, included volume control works great, and only needs 10 gauge power and ground.

Cons: Poor quality bass output, not very loud, plastic housing and aluminum woofer resonate and ruin the bass, doesn't hit very low for a subwoofer.

This little unit added the exact amount of bass I wanted. This will not rattle your tag, but great for a little something extra to your music. Very small and compact, super easy to install. At the time I ordered this unit, it came with an amp installation kit which was nice as well.

Pros: Easy installation, quality construction, nice bass for an inexpensive powered sub.

Cons: Wont fit under the front seat of my 2011 Jeep Wrangler, but not a big deal.

This unit made the system in my 2008 tundra sound like I spent thousands of $'s on it. I'm 54 years old and love the old southern rock. I hear different parts in the songs now that I have never heard before until I installed the new sub. I put the pioneer AVH-x5500BHS Receiver, 6 3/4" polk speakers, the pioneer gm-a4604 amp, and of course the sub. To my ears, this is the best sounding system I have ever had. I bought the system over a 3 year period and of last week finished it. I bought all of it from Crutchfield, there support is second to none.

Pros: The unit fit's under the back seat of my 2008 tundra. It's very easy to install and sound's like a much bigger unit.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It added a little bump in my music. Don't expect to put it in a trunk and be able to hear it. It needs to be in the cabin of the vehicle to make a difference. Too compact for my liking, it sounds a little dry and not very deep. It is pretty good for what it is though just not enough bump for me. I sent it back and got an enclosed 10" jlw3v3-2 instead.

Pros: Compact, Nice for its size.

Cons: Not enough thump for me.

I am very surprised for the size the quality of sound coming from the 8 inch compact sub. More than enough power for my single cab pickup. Very pleased with the product for the price.

Pros: Great compact size, takes up very little room.

Cons: Would of like some way to mount the sub down, nothing sent with the package.

Awesome sub. Don't hesitate to buy this item.

Great unit. Deep sound and fits great under the seat in my Bronco II. I was worried about the sound quality. Then I was blown away by the sound. This is a great unit for small to mid size vehicles. It hits hard enough to rattle my glass but I am not one to blast my stereo like that you will love this unit. I plan on buying another for my Jeep Wrangled. Buy it you will love it.

Pros: Deep base sounds and fits in tight places

Cons: Non so far

( Great Product) for the power 8" speaker that it is. It hits hard and gives good sound. Like some have said if you have gotten past shaken the windows out of the car then this will be a great for the added sound that it you are looking for.

Pros: Gives great bass along with adjustable control knob.

Cons: The free wire kit that was include with the sound ordnance works great other than connectors are too small for the ground and power wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 07 classic silverado. Speaker sounds great and adds perfect bottom end to oreviously installed kicker doir speakers. Only small issues were as previosly stated i had to buy 2 10 gauge connectors for battery and ground wires. Also the battery terminal connector had to be filed out a bit to make larger. No complaints at all for a free wiring kit! I installed under back seat in the middle abd still had plenty of space.

Pros: Great sound for price

Cons: None

Excellent sound from a 8" sub.

Pros: Very loud, has a remote controller easy to install with a very long cable. Crutchfield usually gives you and installation wich works perfectly for small cars, Jeeps and pickup trucks.

Cons: Did not fit under the seat of my 2013 Sentra. Other than that very impress with the sound quality coming out of it.

Sounds ok for what it is but quality seems sub-par, Power & ground mounting block screws stripped out when trying to tighten wires with little or no effort I would recommend the Sound Ordnance B-8P over this one, much better quality & better sound

Pros: Very compact

Cons: Wire Block very cheap & piece of velcro included to hild in place does not work

I was looking something that would add some bass to my system without the space required for traditional subs. I like the size of this unit, but I was worried about the 8 inch woofer sounding ok. My worries are gone, it sounds great. There are some lows it just can't hit so if you are looking for big bass, this isn't for you. But it you are looking to balance out your factory sound, it is perfect.

Pros: Size, sound, remote adjustment

Cons: none

Sounds Like a Small & Inexpensive Sub - Go Figure

Spencer from Knoxville, TN on 1/5/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently installed this sub along with a new receiver to replace the OEM head unit in my 2003 Tacoma Double Cab. I went with this as an inexpensive option for a sub behind the back seat without buying a vehicle-specific enclosure. It fits fine, and nobody will ever know it's there; unfortunately, that includes me. After doing some sound testing, here's my opinion: This sub is not very powerful. I'm biased coming from two Infinity 10s powered by 900W in my previous vehicle, but this sub does not fill out the low-end bass like I was hoping. Before you buy, do some sound testing on your current system. If your system is really missing out on frequency response from 50-120Hz, then this sub will fill out your sound nicely, but so would a set of decent component door speakers. This sub will not make your bass much louder, and it definitely won't make it feel much more powerful. IF YOU CRAVE THE POWER OF FREQUENCIES FROM 20-60Hz, SUCH AS IN HIP-HOP OR DUBSTEP, THEN YOU SIMPLY NEED A BIGGER AND MORE POWERFUL WOOFER. A great sub should have relatively even sound levels from ~20-180Hz, and this one is nowhere near even. This sub is really "punchy" from about 60-100Hz, which is fine for most rock or alternative music. Anything below 60Hz and it is really quiet. Anything above 100Hz and the sound is drowned out by the door speakers. Hopefully it improves as it breaks in, but my suggestion to you is either (1) buy a better sub, or (2) buy nice door speakers and forget the sub.

Pros: Easy installation Price Punchy bass (pro or con depending on expectations)

Cons: Poor frequency response below 60Hz. Almost no frequency response below 40Hz. Quiet in lower frequency range. Too loud in mid-bass frequencies. Poor at amplifying bass in hip-hop or dubstep music. Uneven frequency response and sound levels from 20-180Hz

Nice product, works as described

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for my son's 1993 Chevrolet standard cab pickup. The factory speakers had ZERO base response and this item did the trick. Slid it under the driver's seat and we now have a great "modern" sounding car stereo. It sounds about as good as my 2007 Chevrolet stock stereo system. We weren't interested in window rattling bass, just good sounding, slight bass feeling stereo and this was the perfect addition to do it. I would recommend this to my friends.

Pros: straight forward installation, easy to install and place in vehicle

Cons: small electrical fork connectors for the amp that were included in the wiring kit do not fit the gauge wiring that was also supplied

Great little sub

Zach from Jacksonville, Texas on 1/4/2014

This sub gave me everything I wanted. I didn't care about shaking the whole neighborhood as I drove by, I just wanted to fill the low end of my sound system, which it does excellently. The install wasn't hard at all either. This was the best priced sub that I could find that would actually fit in my truck (2006 dodge dak. quad cab)

Pros: Ease of install, good sounding bass, hides away under seat

Cons: remote knob doesn't mount with the adhesive, so I just used silicon instead
