Want to put some bass to your vehicle without a lot of fuss? Sound Ordnance's B-8PTD powered subwoofer is the latest version of the B-8PT, one of our all-time best-selling compact powered subwoofers. Sound Ordnance built this new version to perform even better than its predecessor, putting a cool-running 125-watt amp and a rugged aluminum 8" sub in an extremely compact, solid ABS plastic enclosure,so you get years of bass satisfaction. This all-in-one unit frees you from having to deal with a separate sub, amp, and enclosure, saves you cargo space, and simplifies your wiring requirements. Whether it's mounted under your car seat or in an out-of-the-way location in the cab of your truck, this little workhorse will surprise you with its impressive bass and its ability to mesh perfectly with the rest of your system.
A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.
The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.
To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk.
I purchased this for a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited due to the limited space. It fit nicely under the passengers seat. Installation was pretty straight forward. Nothing complicated. I used the line-in for a signal as I installed this with a stock stereo. Sound is pretty good for a unit this size. I was very surprised. However, it tends to be very overpowering and not very "tight". Might be better if I was using RCA inputs. The remote volume is nice but the assembly is kind of cheap. In my previous vehicle (super duty crew cab) I used a Kenwood 12" sub in a Sound Ordinance enclosure with a 600 watt Kenwood amp. This sub is nothing like that, but I'm learning to live with it. It really adds some much needed bass.
Pros: compact size, easy install, pretty fair sound for the money
Cons: not very tight, sounds mushy at times
The product impressed the installer and me with the quality of sound, and the price
Pros: Price Performance
This sub is awsom. I added it to my stock f250 stereo and it sounds amazing. It comes on when it detects a signal from you stock speaker wires. The first sub I ordered did not come on with the radio. I called Crutchfeld and they sent me a new on and it worked perfect.
Pros: Awesome sound. Can not believe how much sound it ads to a stock stereo
Perfect for addition for tasteful base to anyone's car audio lacking bass.??
Pros: Compact, clear and powerful
Cons: No cons!??
Great little subwoofer. I installed it in my 2016 wrangler 4 door. The main issue I had with the installation was trying to use the high level inputs. Apparently this is a common issue. Once I installed a line out converter with rca's and a remote turn on lead it worked perfectly. I could have saved a few hours troubleshooting the installation if I would have known that in advance. One interesting thing is the line out converter I used is auto sensing and provides a remote turn on lead. It works perfectly. So the issue is clearly the auto turn on built in the subwoofer. I guess that's how they keep the price so low.
Because of that, I can't give this woofer 5 stars.
So if you buy this sub, also use a line out converter if using your factory speakers. Do not use the high level inputs.
Pros: Size. It's tiny and priced right.
Cons: The high level inputs don't work very well.
I bought this subwoofer because I wanted something compact that would fit in my Miata. This fits neatly in the passenger footwell. I am very impressed with the bass output. I have some dialing-in to do, as I simply turned all the knobs on the unit to halfway, and even without properly setting it up, it complements my 6.5" Polks very well. I barely have the volume on the remote turned up at all and it provides more than enough bass. The price was great, too.
Pros: Extremely small profile, easy to set up, very good bass output for its size, and a low price.
Cons: None I can think of.
I was questionable at first but I got this sub hooked up and playing in no time at all! It was easy running cables and wiring it! I am very impressed with bass! Wasn't expecting what I got out of it! It can thump although it isn't the sub to rattle houses and any cars around but people will know you have a little something going on!
Pros: Bass Remote level control Ease of plug and play
At first I thought this was trash. Then I remembered I had to adjust the knobs, now I'm astounded by how much bass this little thing produces. Great Product.
Pros: Fits under pass. Seat Good amount of power
I have a 2015 Wrangler 2 door with stock non-Alpine radio. I replace the head unit, speakers, and added this Sub for a little bass. I listen mostly to rock, hard rock, little country, and a little pop. This will NOT fit under the seat of the 2 door wrangler due to the seats spring mechanism. I mounted it to the tailgate using the supplied mounting brackets with no issue. I have the tuffy security enclosure which makes the back area basically a car trunk. After install was complete I actually like it better there than under the seat. I would rate sound quality as excellent for all rock (you can really feel the kick drum), excellent for all country, and great for most pop. This will not satisfy those looking for booming bass for rap music. Overall I am very happy with the purchase with no regrets.
I have an 2015 F350 crew cab and this was the perfect solution to the lack of bottom end from the factory system! I tapped into my rear speakers and used a line converter to be able to use the rca jacks on the subwoofer. I highly recommend doing it this way and not just run speaker wire into unit. I liked that it fit right behind the rear seat on the floor. I just relocated the jack. You have to play around with the adjustments a bit and then it sounds great! Don't expect the windows to rattle cause it wont do that. Don't forget the wiring kit. Bass control works great! We will see how long it lasts.
Pros: Easy hookup..Does what it's supposed to do. Fairly cheap.
Cons: none yet
Went over measurements with tech, assured me this would be a futunder my truck seat. (2013 Tacoma sport) - it was not, and the place I took it to went ahead and installed it, behind the rear seat drivers side. Rattles, is muffled, it was a done deal so I just left it be. Too busy to muck with it at the time, I regret not returning it But I had to pay for the install. So, I am stuck with a muffled , rattling mess.
I was NOT expecting this thing to sound as good as it does. It filled out all of the frequencies I was missing after my Christmas speaker upgrade. Honestly, I don't think I could tell a difference between the SO sub and one costing twice as much (which is what I was considering). This is a perfect way to finish up a budget-minded stereo upgrade without sacrificing much if anything. It fits neatly under my seat, the volume control mounted in the center console within easy reach (the pot comes out of the stock plastic case and can be mounted against a switch blank, if you have one), and matches my needs for the car's system perfectly. Not too much, not too little.
Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality, size.
Cons: Plastic chassis is the only thing I can think of, and that's picking nits.
I drive a 2000 GMC sierra that still looks brand new. I'm real fussy about it's maintenance. The truck has a premium sound system that works fine with a replacement Sony Blue Tooth radio but when driving down the road it was lacking enough bass response. I wanted something that could reinforce the bass but not a competition thumper. After looking at a lot of powered sub woofers this one fit the bill for taking very little space under the rear seat behind the driver and does a lot better job than I expected. It can even produce too much clear bass than I needed. Great little unit!
Pros: A lot of bass from a compact unit.
Cons: The power terminals could be better but they work.
For such a small size this sub really sounds great! I installed it under the back seat of a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ. It was a perfect fit and you cannot tell it is there. I bought the Scoche amp install kit with it and within 1 hour I was testing the system. If you have a small space to work with or just don't want to have a big box taking up space buy this unit, you won't regret it!
Pros: Small size, easy installation, well built.
Cons: None at this time.
Great sub for the price. It fit under the seat nicely. Sound is good, tho it won"t knock your socks off. Easy Install as far as connections.
Pros: Easy connection. Good sound.
Cons: None yet
Installed this in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK. Fits nicely under the passenger's seat. The sound quality is excellent for such a small unit. Provides a full rich sound, rounding out the bass that the other speakers can't provide. Will fill the vehicle with plenty of sound, but doesn't annoy the neighboring vehicles. Take your time getting this thing "tuned" properly and you'll love it.
Pros: Great sound quality.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Great sound from a little sub. Really rounded out the sound in my little Subaru Forrester
Pros: Create value and you save room in your car
Just what I wanted. Added the low end that my system was missing. Not one to wake the neighbors as you drive down the street but just the right amount for my F150 Crew Cab. Definitely made a great improvement difference in my sound system.
Pros: Straight forward install in my truck. I had already previously upgraded my player so I'm sure this made it and easier setup than the factory radio would have been. I'm by no means a pro but I do have mechanical skills and kind of techy.
Cons: So far I have no problems with this system. I did mount this underneath my F150 drivers seat but I had an air duct there so I had to use spacers under the rear of the unit to keep airflow open to the rear seat.
Sound Ordnance makes quality products for less. You will be very happy with this powered sub. It has great sound for a small package.
Great compliment to a basic stereo system that did not have a subwoofer. I am not savvy with stereo equipment, so the easy setup was great. For the price, this combo is just what I was looking for, but you do have to have realistic expectations. You want bass thumping inside and out, look someplace else (and spend way more $$$). May purchase another one for a second vehicle.
Pros: Slim design. Simple setup. Decent quality
Cons: None that I have found based on price range of the product
Had one of these in my 2010 Dodge Ram and loved it. Tried to put one in my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with my stock head unit. It would only power up intermittently. Tried a fuse tap per Crutchfield tech support. Same problem. Had to return the unit. Lesson learned: If it's not plug and play, I don't want it. When someone comes out with a system to fit my truck at a reasonable price where all my features work to include rearview camera and everything is plug and play, I will be interested. Until then, I must listen to my stock system. My recommendation is, if you want a sub, make sure your head unit has dedicated RCA connections for your sub; don't bother trying to connect it to speaker wires of your stock head unit.
Pros: Crutchfield tech support. MasterSheets.
Cons: Would only work intermittently when installed per instructions.
This is an economical choice for a good sounding sub. It works and sounds great in a standard cab pickup. The bass is clear and is a great addition to a basic sound system.
Pros: Economical and quality sound
Cons: Don't have any yet
The absolute Best powered sub on the market, quite frankly, the only one I would recommend considering size and ability to place under seats. Installed this one in my 2000 F350 Supercab, excellent sound, great lows, blows my shipmates away because of how good it sounds. Also installed one of the older models in my dad's 03 F250 Crew Cab, once again, great sound, great quality. Overall, an outstanding product.
Cons: Not a single con
This adds just what I was missing in my truck audio setup. The bass sound is full and rich with plenty of adjustments for customizing the sound your looking for across various music genres. I'm so glad I purchased this item and knowing the fact that Crutchfield was in corner made it easy......Thanks!
Pros: Small, powerful and easy to install.
Great unit, looks and sounds great in my 2007 jeep wrangler
Pretty happy with this subwoofer. Installation wasn't a big deal on my 2010 Forester, just removed the seat to make it much easier. This unit is not a replacement for a much larger subwoofer, but it does provide better sound than I was expecting considering the size and price. It can shake my mirrors and delivery some decent "punch", but it won't shake the next car over.
The sub sounds flawless for bass heavy pop and the like. Metal (which I listen to mostly) makes the sub struggle a little, so an external sub eq would help out. However, the sound quality is still good enough that most people won't need to bother with this extra equipment. After playing with the settings on the sub and my head unit, I was able to get metal sounding fairly crisp.
Pros: -Compact -Well Priced -Good sound quality
Cons: -Would like to see an on board multi-band eq (not really a big deal if your head unit has a decent eq and some sub tuning settings)
Compacted and sounds great.
Pros: Compact and easy to hook up.
Not worth the money in my opinion. It does not reproduce "sub" bass notes (30hz to 80Hz range) so I'm not sure how it can be called a subwoofer. It does have pretty good punch for drums but will not hit the low notes. I have a less expensive computer speaker system with a 22 watt ported 6" subwoofer that outperforms this unit in every way. It also had a cheap sound to it ... as if you could tell it was mounted in a plastic box. I've heard several 8" subs that sound way better than this one. I ultimately returned the unit and purchased an amp and sub separately and built my own box ... custom fit to the truck. This is much more time consuming and cost about twice as much but it is so worth it.
Pros: Small, easy to install, connect & setup. The controls (gain, crossover, remote bass control, etc. ) all worked just fine.
Cons: Poor Performance ... does not reproduce low bass notes and sounds cheap.
This sub puts out a lot more punch than I expected for the price. Installation couldn't be easier. I installed it in a 2015 Subaru Forester, under the passenger seat. You have to remove the passenger seat for the installation, but once the seat is out, it fits into a compartment there like it was made for it. Wired remote is nice.
Pros: Fit my application like it was factory installed.
Cons: Mounting brackets kind of a pain. Suggest using stereo controls for tuning.
This product is amazing for its price, never heard of a built in amp at first but thought I'd give it a try for more bass in front of car, very promising, I love it! That and it's a fraction of the price for subs, of course it's not as loud as subs but adds a good amount of bass.
Pros: Easy installation, great bass for 8", fits under passenger seat, great price for amount of bass
Cons: Took a while to fine tune but that's nothing against the product, the auto tune isn't good at all
Fits just fine under the driver seat of my 2009 Subaru Impreza. Plenty of volume. The frequency response only goes down to 40 Hz. It will not reproduce the low bass notes you want to hear. I returned it for the comparably sized Kicker (which also fits in the same location). I am much happier with the Kicker over this model. To summarize, get this if you don't like bass, get the Kicker if you want to hear the rest of the bass in your music.
Pros: Ease of installation. Compact size. Good volume.
Cons: Does not reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz.
I installed box under rear seat of 2002 toyota tundra . Great sound and when installed correctly will give people the idea you have a 10 inch sub .Installed using a Kenwood deck with separate sub controls I used no filtration on the sub box enclosure itself. Allowing me to use the head unit for all filtration of sound giving me a well balanced system with amazing bass enough to shake both front seats I also mounted directly to the floor pan of the vehicle with a solid firm connection ,this is key to get big sound and feel. The driver needs to push and pull if you just lay it on the floor it to will cancel out half you sound .
I would never use high inputs on anything so I can't speak for those who want to but I would not expect my result with high input used.
Gain control knob works great especially when watching movies so you can turn down the boom for the kids on the fly .
Great product ,I would buy again.
Pros: Small size ,just enough power for size. Price
Cons: Mounting brackets should not be plastic, and should come with self tapping screws.
Considering it was a drop in replacement for a custom amp/sub/speaker box, the wiring was already done so changing it out was simple. And the response was far tighter than what was there previously.
I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler and it fits perfect under the rear seat. Really my only option for bass because of limited space in a Jeep and I won't have to worry about theft because it's hidden. I installed speakers as well and this sub fills in the bass that the small speakers lack. This is definitely a good product if you have limited space in your vehicle.
Pros: Easy install, sounds great, size, price
Great product! Fills my '14 Wrangler perfectly. Well hidden under the rear seat. Customer service install rep was a champ for a quick question. Great product sold by an even better company!
Pros: Easy install None
overall this product is great and simple to install. The bass is very good and sounds great in my jeep. It is enough to help fill out my heels sound system. It will not rattle your teeth but it will do plenty and give you the low end you need.
Pros: Size, easy to hook up. Sound is good.
Cons: Needs better install options as the double sided tape was not going hold this.
I wanted more bass on my sound system but I did not want to use the space in the trunk of my 2003 CR-V. I put the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 125-watt compact powered sub-woofer under the front passenger seat. It works great and now I have that great bass that I wanted.
Pros: It sounds great and it can be hidden under almost any seat.
Cons: I wish the wire remote could be installed in one of the dash extra holes. Like the one for fog lights.
Put under driver's seat in 2008 accord coupe to get a big sub box out of trunk. Performs just as good if not better than the 300 watt it replaced (12in jbl with bridged dual amp). Setup and adjustment was easy, just make sure to make adjustments to the sound before placing under the seat as it is a tight fit on this car.
Pros: Compact, powerful, easy setup, affordable
Cons: None yet.
I have had my subwoofer for over a year until it decided to stop working. Luckily, with the 3 year warranty and amazing customer service at crutchfield, I was able to have the thing replaced. After a 5 minute phone conversation with tech support, I had another of these subs on the way. Just need to pack up the old one and send it off; no questions asked! The sub itself does what it says it can do. It fits under the back seat of my truck, projects throughout the entire cab, and will shake my side mirrors if the gain is all the way up. If you're on a budget like I was, this is the way to go. I just wish other people could hear the bass from my truck, but you won't get that from a subwoofer this small. Overall 4/5 stars. Good for people who aren't familiar with sound or if this is your first install.
Pros: Compact, good bass for small cab, cost effective, great warranty
Cons: Won't wake the neighbors
This sub is a great option for people with limited space or limited knowledge of sound equipment. With its all inclusive design it is simple to install and easy to operate. It fits great behind the the seats of my regular cab Chevy and has a lot of punch for such a small and compact package!
Pros: Small All inclusive Options
Cons: Does not come with wiring kit for amp
Really convienent and powerful, fits great under passenger seat on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler.
Pros: Fits under seat and sounds great
I bought this until to fill in some bass on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler 4-door. This unit more than fills the bill. I have an aftermarket head unit, with stock speakers. My original plan was to upgrade the stock speakers, but I'm getting such a good overall sound out of this, I think I might just stick with the setup as is - very pleased.
This unit fits perfectly under the passengers seat of the Jeep - out of sight, yet really fills the cabin with a nice deep base sound, that even thumps a little bit. Couldn't be happier with the sound, especially for the price. In retrospect, I'd have paid easily double the cost to get the sound I have. I get lots of compliments from passengers on the sound.
This sub of course is no substitute for a speaker box and big amps. If you are looking for a real hard hitting bass system, this isn't it. If you are looking for a compact, inexpensive package that can easily be hidden and really fill in some sound, look no further.
Having this sub, allowed me to use the high-pass filters built into my head unit. It took about an hour of tweaking the various high pass/low pass filters and the subwoofer output. Take the time to set this correctly, and you'll love it.
Pros: Great sound, inexpensive, hides under the seat easily.
not impressed at all, placed it in a 2001 tundra with pioneer system, had to turn all the way up just to hear bass, door speakers sound better than unit
Pros: small, easily fits under seat, not hard to install
Cons: bass sound too low
If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you! I installed this in a 98 Jeep Cherokee. My hope was that it would fill in the low tones that the smallish after-market speakers I put in couldn't produce. Boy does it ever! I placed it on the floor board of the rear drivers side. There isn't quite enough room to tuck it under the seat in a Cherokee. There are controls on the unit for frequency and other things beyond my knowledge. I fiddled with them until I got the sound I was looking for. Then there is the remote knob that you can attach within reach of the drivers seat to adjust the general degree of bass up or down. This function is critical for getting the sound just right depending on the style and production of your jams. I did the install myself which was pretty straight forward and took about 3 hrs and a bit of online video viewing. I'm fairly novice with this stuff too so as you know. I would describe my set up as very entry level after-market with a basic Dual receiver, a couple of budget Kicker 2ways in the rear and the Sound Ordnance sub. It can handle way more sound than I would ever demand of it. If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you!
Pros: Very compact Lots of adjustment options Remote control 2 year warranty
Simple install Simple concept Great value sub/amp combo
This little guy works great under the rear seat in my F150 SuperCrew. It delivers very nice output for the size and price. The remote gain is great for when kids ride along. Just the right amount of adjustments on the amp to get the pop/punch/boom you want for the music you like to listen to. Works really well with the Kenwood 2DIN receiver i put in.
For the amount and ease of installing, you really can't beat the cost/performance ratio. Recommended
Pros: sound performance size control price
Cons: instructions lacking a bit - but if you're installing this, you really don't need them :) lack of spade connectors for the Power/Ground
Tried this in my 2012 Mazda CX7. I heard the base but couldn't feel the bass. Great sub if mounted under the Drivers or front passenger seat. I'm trying out the Sound Ordnance B-8P.
Pros: Small design, Speaker level inputs, 3yr warranty
Cons: Not enough bass for a small crossover.
excellent sub! I listen to rock n roll this sub works perfect for the sound I was looking for.
Needed a powered sub to fill out my Eurovan Westy, and this unit does the job! Easily fits beneath the front pax seat, where it can be supported by standard connector cables. Unseen but not unheard!
Pros: Great value for the $. Easy to install!
Easy to install as i placed my in the truck, there was no room under the seats. I did have to supply a proper wiring kit as it didn't come with one.
Pros: Easy to install, provided the needed bass without going over the top.
Cons: If you are want a car booming bass, you are not going to get it. I proper wiring kit would have been nice.
Four stars...would have been five but my unit quit after three years. This unit was easy to hook up. It was my first time ever installing an amp kit. Also Crutchfield support was awesome in helping me figure out the oem speaker wires to splice into when installing this unit. It worked great. It took time to adjust the settings as I thought slight adjustments made a huge difference both good and bad. I put it behind my seats in my 2011 Crew Cab F350 and yes this doesn't rattle windows of near by houses but surprisingly it can thump inside a car and I think it's the perfect balance of excess vs usability. So why am I reviewing now? Well I bet my unit's failure was a fluke and I'm getting ready to order another one. You can't go wrong with this unit.
Not impressed at all, sound quality has to be adjusted with every song change.
Pros: Easy install
Cons: Bad sound in my 2008 Chevy crew cab!
Great Sound and a Great Size. Fit right under the rear seat of my Jeep Wrangler and sounds much larger than it is!
Pros: Size & Sound
An Amazing little sub for the price (and the Size!). I was happy to spend so little cash to put a sub in my boyfriend's Prius-C hatchback. This little guy fits charmingly under the front seat and produces considerable bass for such an adorable little fellow.
However the inputs are a bit twitchy...the volume has to be nearly maxed out to kick the sub on, and at a reasonable volume with two people in the car, it will randomly drop in and out. Some songs/volumes will not activate the sub at all, even though the door speakers are vibrating in their enclosures. Overall I'm satisfied with it, but if you're not able to replace a modern car's overly-fancy head-unit to a unit with direct sub input, this sub's decision for when is a good time to be switched on leaves a lot to be desired.
Also our first unit was defective. :( Crutchfield customer service was amazing (had a new one out that afternoon) but I don't think anything will make up for spending 4 hours face-down under the rear seat of a hatchback only to find you've installed a defective subwoofer.
Pros: Great sound, tiny adorable size, solid construction
Cons: "auto on" feature is twitchy at best
Easy to install and sounds great in the back of my jeep.
Pros: Good sound from a compact size.
Cons: Directions could be a little more specific.
Was Looking for a Sub-woofer that would fill out the lows,in my sound system and would sound Great. Also needed something compacted, this totally fit, what I need.Sound Great.
Pros: Compacted, anb sounds Great
Installed the unit on this Saturday 8/29/15 , took me four hours I'm guessing by the time I rounded up all the tools and finished ! I'm very impressed with Powered Subwoffer in my Regular Cab 2013 Chevy Siliverado . I thought it would make a difference , just not as much as it has ( Awesome Big Bass ) . Just hope it gives me many a years of service.
Pros: Fits perfect and out of the way , great little Bass setup ! It really enhances my Pioneer receiver and kicker speakers in the door and overhead that I purchased from Crutchfield .
Cons: None yet , but then I just installed it ! Maybe another review later down the road !
I installed this in the spare tire hatch in the back of my SUV. It's very compact, but really lacks the range, and oomph I wanted. A separate amp/sub combo is what I need and ended going with. the JL Audio 8" 3wV3 ported enclosure fit in the same area, and provided the musical, and fun factor I desired.
Pros: Compact size
Cons: Musical range, power
I have been looking at an Amp/Sub combo for a long time for my 2013 Ford Escape because I wanted some base added to the factory radio. It took me a while because I was skeptical that they would really give me any good base sound. I chose the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD to fit under one of my seats. Well... it did not fit under either seat... so I started looking elsewhere. I found a perfect spot in the spare tire compartment that had an indentation that seemed to be made for it. I hooked it up per the instructions using the high-level input (from the rear speakers) and the auto-on feature. When I tried it.. it seemed to work sometimes and sometimes not. After a couple calls to Tech Support (those guys know their stuff) I had to connect the "Remote On" terminal to the ignition. It works great now. Not a thumping base but a good addition to the factory radio.
Pros: Great addition to factory radio.
The factory speaker size on a Vanagon is 4 inches and the bass and midrange on those small speakers are weak. This subwoofer has improved the sound 10 fold. We are loving it. I placed it behind the drivers seat. This is VW Vanagon Carat 7 seater.
Pros: Sound, ease of installation, price
Cons: None so far
my recommendation is that you make sure you can fit this under your seat. i thought i would be able to but i had to install it in the trunk. for me, the bass was not nearly enough. also, this sub seems to have a little extra response somewhere around the 100-150 hertz range and the effect of that is that the bass drones a little bit when you have the volume up, which was annoying to me.
in the trunk: i'd give this 3 stars. if you can put it under your seat, it's probably more of a 4 star product.
it's not meant for crushing bass, but it will absolutely fill out the low end of your system and makes all music sound better.
Pros: very compact, easy to tune, fills out low end response for balanced sound.
Cons: Bass response was underwhelming. not loud enough from the trunk.
I needed to replace my Kenwood flat panel powered sub (it was a good sub, but the speaker just wore out). Wanting a slimmer profile, I googled "powered flat panel subwoofers" (8" & 10"). I read reviews. Read more reviews, checked out forums and you know what, there's something negative to say about them all. It's weeding through the thicket and understanding what I needed for my application (1978 Corvette). I picked up a 10" online (another brand), and never hooked it up (1/2-1" too tall for where I was mounting; vertically on the back cargo wall). So digging the reviews on the Sound Ordnance, I logged into my Crutchfield account and ordered the B-8PTD. It arrived quickly and was packaged to withstand any Jim Carey attempt to deliver a UPS package! I purchased a 8-gauge wiring kit (Crutchfield) and quickly went to town installing my new sub. Installed and ready to go, I pulled up AC/DC's Back in Black album for some classic rock testing. I'm going to be honest, I know better but I was expecting perfection out of the box. It sounded horrible! Just lack luster. But after hours, days and a week later I dialed that sub in for some awesome hard hitting base! (now to clarify, this is NOT a window shattering sub. If you want that, buy that type. But you will get good solid base that fills the void and if you do it right, feel it!). You need to adjust the EQ on your head unit, then the sub. Then back to the EQ, etc. Take your time and use a variety of music. You'll thank yourself!
Pros: Great Packaging. Quality build. Powerful.
Cons: More Power (just kidding). But more is always better right?
Very pleased with this powered sub. I used to think you needed a giant box with a sub to get the deep tones, but now that I am getting older (and wiser) I don't have the room or need for that kind of setup. I installed this unit under my passenger seat of my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Install was straight forward after researching where to run the wires to reach the battery. I have this sub paired with an aftermarket head unit from Pioneer and aftermarket speakers. The best feature for me is the included wired remote. This makes it easy to change the level of bass depending on your music selection. This is also very handy if I have the top off the Jeep since I can increase the level quickly if needed, whether I am on an open road or need to bring it down through a neighborhood.
At first I was hesitant if this powered sub could produce the sound I now desired, and I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this to anyone.
Pros: Good value, Compact, Wired Remote
Great sound for a low price
Very good product. Easy to install.
I was surprised at the performance of this powered subwoofer. For my application, I installed it in the trunk of my Goldwing motorcycle. The Goldwing is known for not having a decent factory radio system. I have upgraded the receiver, the factory speakers in the dash and added aftermarket speakers in the rear arm rest. But, still lacked bass. Next, I added an amplifier to the four speakers and this powered subwoofer. Holy #!, the bass was far more then I expected! I have the powered sub turn down quite a bit to match the rest of the system. I have not tried any other subs in this configuration, but it seems to work well. I would recommend this powered sub to be considered. I cannot rate at 5 stars since I have only had the powered sub for a couple weeks.
Pros: Easy installation, came with wiring instructions, price seems fair, compact, remote adjustment for bass level.
Cons: I do not have a con at this time since I have not had the powered sub installed and in use for any length of time.
First, let me say that I have a profound hearing loss in the mid to high pitch range. Therefore I cannot really appreciate the subtle sounds of music. However I do have very good hearing aids and do appreciate good music. This subwoofer greatly enhanced my enjoyment of my stereo system in my Ramcharger, plus my friends who have excellent hearing tell me that it sounds GREAT!
Pros: Easy to install, really nice subwoofer in a small package.
Added some nice clean bass to what was a decent (but underwhelming) factory speaker system. Don't be misled by its compact size and weight, this thing produces very nice low end and does it without taking up any space.
Pros: Fit easily under front passenger seat, excellent for the DIY types. Excellent value for the money.
Cons: None so far
completes the stereo .all I want to do is crank it up for the concert experience
Pros: low profile, easy install
Can't beat it for the money. I have a Pioneer AVIC 5000NEX head unit playing through factory speakers and this subwoofer. Rounds out the bottom end nicely, and can hit decently well for its size when cranked up. Obviously no replacement for one or more 12" subwoofers, but for adding musical (not obnoxious) bass to a factory or mostly-factory audio system, this product is a win.
Pros: Price Size Decent sound for its size
Cons: Frequency response could go lower.
It fits where I want it and hits hard
Pros: It fits under my passenger seat with no problems.
I got a new '15 Jeep Wrangler a few months ago and felt like it was lacking quite a bit in the bass department. I had an Infinity Basslink that I pulled from my previous vehicle - and even though it is a powered sub, it was still a bit bulky for my 2dr JK.
I decided to try this B-8PTD since it was popular amongst the Jeepers, and installed it last night. It really does fill the Jeep nicely with lows. I have the stock headunit too, running off of a line out converter. Eventually I'll upgrade my head unit and it'll sound even better. I'm still trying to figure out the adjustments on the sub but it may take a little while to fine tune, just like any amp.
Pros: Tight package, nice sound, cost effective, good construction
cant believe the sound from such a compact unit. absolutely love it
Pros: compact unit with big sound that doesn't take up a lot of room
Cons: 1 and only con...running battery wire for a F-150 was a pain
I initially purchased one of these to replace another cheapo powered sub/box combo I bought online. After speaking with Crutchfield sales chat, I was reluctant to try another one, but gave it a shot anyway. This one fit perfect in the back corner of my 1994 BMW 540iT wagon behind the access panel. I wanted something hidden from view, but added some fill to my Infinity Kappas running off a JVC receiver. I have had this one for almost 3 years now with zero issues. I bought my wife a 2005 BMW X5 recently and it came with the stock lower end system without a factory sub. It sounded fine but was lacking bass. I went right back to Crutchfield and bought another one, mounted it in the exact same spot as my old 540iT and she is happy again. Happy wife, happy life. Just last week I purchased yet, another one of these and put it behind the rear seat of my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. Again, I like bass, but I hate advertising that I have subs in there. My truck previously had a box in there when I bought it which was removed by the previous owner. Another happy purchase! I would buy this assuming you aren't looking to rattle everything around you, but just to add nice fill without taking up any space. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a bit more out of their system.
Pros: Size! It packs a punch for how small its packaging is. It's been dead reliable going on 3 years now.
Cons: Isn't going to shake your organs loose by any means, it can't defy physics.
This sub sounds very good for its size and eliminates the need for a large enclosure and separate amp. It adds a good musical sounding low end to my system without taking up a lot of space. I installed it in my 2001 Dodge Dakota Club Cab and the sub fit perfectly in the space on the transmission tunnel between the back side of my center console and the front side of the tool tray under the back seat. The sub does not obstruct the movement of the front seats and does not interfere with the tool bag and socket set in a plastic case I carry in the rear floorboards behind my front seats. I used the supplied Velcro to keep the sub from sliding around but the fit is just snug enough to hold it in place. The sound quality really is very good; the sub added back the low end that has been missing from my system for a long time. It won't shake my mirrors or wake the neighbors but it does produce very musical and accurate sub bass. I have a Pioneer MVH-X370BT deck and used the sub RCA outputs to the amp which gives a lot better control over the sound of the sub than the supplied volume knob. This sub is an excellent value and will add some good low end without taking up a lot of space, just don't expect it to rattle your windows. I listen to mostly classic rock and the B-8PTD really does add some good punch to my sound quality. I wired it with 8 gauge power and ground wire and it runs very cool, the heat sink was just barely warm even after 45 minutes of testing. It's a very good sub!
Pros: Small size should fit most anywhere. Runs cool and has excellent low end for an 8" sub. No need for a giant enclosure or large amp taking up valuable space in a smaller interior. It restores a necessary element of excitement to the music. The sub is fairly heavy for its size and appears to be very well made.
Cons: The included volume knob did not really do much for my system. I tried it with and without the volume knob and got a lot better sound control and bass output by using the sub out RCA's on my deck.
Got this for my sons jeep had already spent a lot of money building a system and still had a hollow sound and this was just what it needed! Sounds great and fit right where we wanted it to save room!
Pros: Added the bass the rest of the system needed Small enough to go about anywhere
I wasn't sure what I was going to get with this product after reading through others reviews but am very happy with my purchase! It puts out a lot more bass than I was expecting and fits really well in my Ford Ranger!
Pros: Size Sound
installed this a dodge dakota quad cab. put it behind the rear seat and it ROCKS easy to install about 1 hour and that included removing seats to run wires. great sound it really enhanced the kenwood system that i previously installed. I would put one of these in every car I own
Easy install, great sound. Really filled in the bass in my full size crew cab. RCA input source provides solid punchy bass. Quality product, great size - fits nicely under the rear seat. I recommend this to anyone looking for good bass that isn't looking to thump pedestrians when you drive by.
Pros: Good sound, quality build, nice size, reasonable price.
Once again the sensible expert at Crutchfield led me into the best choice possible. Instead of the normal nonsense at the local store trying to sell me a million megawatt death sentence for my ears, my guy recommended exactly what I needed to fill the gap in my car's audio system. This sub is exactly the right amount of umph to make my car sound great at lower volumes and make the car shake if for some reason I need it. It complemented the focal brand component speakers I had installed prior by filling the bass gap. It also fit nicely under a seat and didn't rob me of precious cargo space. Thanks for Crutchfield for making such a great recommendation that did not threaten neither my budget or my future need for functioning ears.
Pros: great sound, easy install, fits under the seat to not rob storage and cargo space
Cons: didn't buy it soon enough...
Great sub from a small size. Blew my mind from the amount of sound from this little guy.
Pros: Great sound for a small sub. small foot print allow for under seat installation.
Cons: limited deep bass but not a big issue. Will not sound like a 8 inch in a good sealed sub box but does come close.
This was exactly what my Jeep was lacking in the sound department. Just the right amount of base and hidden out of the way beneath the rear seat. Couldn't be happier. Highly recommend this to anyone with a Jeep Wrangler. I use mine on the trails and keep tools and recovery gear behind the back seat. So a big sub box wasn't an option for me. The size and sound this produces is just right for my liking.
Pros: Great size and sound for a Jeep.
Cons: Nothing so far.
Very easy install. Verified with the rep what cables I would need to connect this to my aftermarket head unit, and watched a few videos on youtube for the best way to route power from the battery. I appreciate the velcro mounting strips as an option. This isn't nearly powerful enough to need to be bolted down to the floor, so I appreciate not having to drill holes in the frame of my car.
Bass is clean, frees up the in-door speakers to handle the mid and upper ranges. Made for a grownup. If you want trunk rattling boom, you should look elsewhere.
Pros: Fits under the seat of a 2010 WRX without interfering with seat travel.
The performance of this powered subwoofer is only "so - so" in my 2015 Toyota Tundra. It only made a trivial improvement to the sound. I'm giving it 3 stars for a few reasons. The product advisor at Crutchfield really talked this item up as if I would expect significant sound improvement. The advisor also sold me a wiring kit for the install and I only used the power wire and the grounding wire. There were multiple other items in the kit that I didn't need for the install (but paid for). Lastly, tech support gave me the wrong color factory wires to hook up the speaker and it sounded terrible. I had to call back and a new advisor was able to trouble shoot and determine that the speaker was hooked up wrong.
Cons: Trivial improvement to my factory sound. Sold me a wiring kit which included items not needed Tech support gave me the wrong color factory wires for the install
Not too much bass as described.. For me just the perfect amount to supplement my Polk speakers.. Could not get amp to power up correctly with just speaker level input.. Called tech support and was told to just hook up remote wire.. Works perfectly for my likes.. Called tech support on couple other issues. This is one reason I would pay just a little more at Crutchfield awesome support and have always been fast and very professional lots of knowledge .. Very satisfied with sound ordinance sub and Crutchfield
Pros: Like bass remote easy install just enough bass to make the sound I was looking for
Cons: None as of yet
Installed and wired sub with few problems. What issues I had were caused by the fact this was my first install. The techs at Crutchfield helped me out and all was fine. Still trying to tweek the sound. Didn't want a sub everyone around me would hear. Besides, my old ears couldn't handle it anyway. This one will work just fine. Good product, would recommend.
Pros: Pretty easy to install and set up. Nothing fancy. I like that.
Cons: None so far.
It's a solid powered sub that takes up minimal space. That being said i should have known an 8" compact sub wouldn't put out much power. Added to my factory Bose system using the high power inputs, I have to max out the bass of the radio, amp, and supplied bass knob to hear any difference over stock system. Definitely added a low range to my truck that was not there before but don't expect it to blow you away.
Pros: Nice heavy design, fits under back seat of pickup, fills out low range
Cons: Wouldn't buy if your expecting booming bass
very versatile mounting options great not over the top sound for the price great value changed the sound dynamic of my toyhauler trailer can really crank it up and appreciate the sound available from this pioneer head unit and sound ordinance sub
Pros: easy install compact unit great sound
Very good sound out of a small package. This was mounted under the passenger seat of my sons 1997 Honda Accord. He loves it! Enough boom for a 16 year old and no annoying vibrations.
Pros: Easily fits under seat. Nice remote control dial lets you customize bass level.
I bought this to install in a 2005 4runner. I wanted extra bass, but something my wife would not have to look at. I had hoped to install it under the seat, but doing so would limit seat motion, so I installed it in the back of the seat. It is not a big sub box, and it won't give you the same punch as large wooden box with 8" sub, but it is impressive for its size. I am thinking about putting another one in the other seat.
Pros: fits in tight spaces, and adds thump to your low end.
Cons: It does not have the same bass a big sub box would.
Sounds really good in a jeep whether the top is up or down. Definitely worth the money if you want a good sounding sub that doesn't take up hardly any space. Put mine under the back seat and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
I purchased this to install in a 2010 Mitsubishi Evo which has basically no space for a sub - there is no room under the front seats, and the trunk is very small (the battery and wiper fluid reservoir are back there). I couldn't lose trunk space in this car. I was able to install it behind a plastic trim piece in the trunk that separates the battery/wiper reservoir from the trunk and rear seat. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that I could not use a low impedance input with the factory nav. unit and the high impedance input/power setup does not always turn 'on' as needed. If I can use the OEM head unit for a low impedance input, this will be perfect.
Pros: Size and ease of install
Cons: High impedance auto power 'on' system is not perfect.
Do you want good bass in a compact package at a low price? Look no further! The Sound Ordnance B-8PTD provides powerful bass for making your music fuller or for shaking your windows (if you're into that sort of thing). The Sound Ordnance B-8PTD takes up very little space (I have mine mounted to my rear seat back) yet still provides great sound. The price is affordable on almost any budget.
Pros: Good bass, compact, affordable price.
Cons: None yet.
This is my second Sound Ordnance B-8PTD in a second vehicle! I love the value of it and the punch it packs!
This is my 2nd unit. 1 in my soul and 1 in my grandson's ram truck. Took about 3 hrs to install.Fills in the low end a stock system is missing. Sounds great in both units.
Pros: good bass for a much improved over all sound.
Cons: Need to order the power amp install kit for proper install wiring.
If you need some great bass but not the type to vibrate surrounding cars, this is a good choice
Pros: Small and powerfull, clear bass
Cons: Only con i have so far is the double sided tape to mount the remote is absolute garbage. Almost had that 5/5 stars.
Does its job.
Pros: Small. Compact. Nothing crazy but enough to get the job done.
Excellent Amplified Subwoofer with all necessary wiring, connectors, cable, etc. I had a professional installer put the unit under drivers' seat replacing OEM unit in a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited 30th Anniversary. Very happy with the sound and having a radio/cassette/CD in use again. Thank you for the online information.
Pros: Just what I needed and an excellent fit under drivers' seat. Quality of sound superb with the adjustable bass control.
I should have known that you're not going to get real bass out of a thin box. All instincts said "no" but it fit my space and was affordable without putting additional amp/ sub combo. What you get is additional bass to existing sound but it easily overwhelms the sound in back seat when it sounds decent in the front. The remote control is essential because volumes change between radio/ aux and you must adjust bass accordingly. Not sure of the low frequency range but it ain't much. Remember, you're amplifying all sound so if the bass is midway on your deck, you're amplifying that bass, it's not pre-amped so, to limit overwhelming the speaker you have to reduce the bass at your deck. Now your front speakers are getting no bass! I wouldn't recommend this unit unless you have few options.
Pros: Some "bass" for those with few options
Cons: Ignores the reality that you must have a cabinet with sufficient airspace to truly have bass
This is my second style of sound ordnance self powered subs from Crutchfield and I am completely satisfied with it. I purchased this to go in my f250 crew cab under the rear seat. It gives music the depth and character of a custom stereo without breaking the bank. It wont shatter windows and it wont wake up the neighborhood but it will please the ear for the passengers inside. Decent bass for such a compact design. Easy to install for the Diy person with basic knowledge of stereo installations. Thanks Crutchfield, always there to assist with excellent customer service!
Pros: Low price, easy to install. Remote bass boost knob, big sound, small box, space saver.
Cons: None if you know what you want!
This is a powerful, nice sounding little sub for the money. I can directly compare it with the Kicker Hideaway because I owned that product before this one, and this sub has plenty of punch to keep up with most of the oem or low- to mid-range systems it will likely be paired with. The Kicker does produce tighter bass, which is better-sounding to my ear, but in sheer loudness and butt-shaking ability the B-8PTD performs admirably. It's just a little more "boom" than "thud" - but in my opinion, at half the price of the Hideaway the very slight advantage the Kicker has over the SO in sound quality is not even remotely worth the extra dollars.
Pros: Excellent bang for the buck. It's LOUD. Easy to install.
Cons: Little boomy for my taste.
Was hesitant that this subwoofer could give me something substnantial but I was really impressed with how much power this little box packs. It won't rattle your doors or let your neighbors know you're home and it stuggles at high volumes but honestly if you want just a little kick; this thing is awesome.
Pros: Inexpensive, great to add low end and a little bump
Cons: Gets a little hollow sounding at high volumes
This thing kicks in my 1964 Impala! Love it. Installation was cake. Without this powered sub-woofer, my stereo sounded wimpy but once I installed it it made 100% difference. Installation was easy...I also purchased the optional wiring kit from Crutchfield that had everything needed for the installation. This unit paired with my Retrosound Zuma and three-way speakers sounds great. Thanks Crutchfield for your excellent support from my intitial contact through installation. Much appreciated.
Pros: Small in size, big in sound.
Cons: No complaints.
Great sound, clear bass. Not a window rattler but just the right amount of bass to complete the full sound.
I have 1994 Ford Ranger XL simply put, the factory stereo was pure Garbage. I didn't have a lot of money to spend but wanted decent sounding music in my truck so I bought this to go with a JVC head unit and 4 Blaupunkt speakers. The transformation was more than I expected. I'm almost 50 so I didn't want a sub that announced my coming 6 blocks away, I just wanted a nice rich sounding bass to go with the speakers. I got what I wanted. The whole set up sounds amazing. If I had known how good the Sound Ordnance sub was gonna be I would have ordered the Sound Ordnance speakers also. Top notch quality and sound as far as I'm concerned.
Pros: Great Price! Great sound! Fits nicely in a small space!
This Sub is awesome! I installed last weekend and it seems that I have a whole new library of music...that now has bass. Installation was as easy as expected, hiding wires under trim and carpet. I am still fine tuning the settings and I keeps getting better every day. I was hoping it would fit under the front 60/40 seat of my 2002 Silverado 1/2 T Ext cab but I have heat ducts and a cross bar that was about 1/4" to low. It does however fit nicely under the rear seat on the cent hump using the supplied velcro pads is pretty secure and can be moved in needed.
Pros: Excellent bass in a small package.
Cons: Wouldn't fit under 02 Silverado frt seat. Wish controls were angled up to provide better visibility.
Installed this in my old 1998 Nissan 200sx daily driver. It fitted perfectly in the corner of the trunk so I did not have to sacrifice trunk space. I was skeptical about it at first since I remembered how my two 10" sony xplod subs use to hit hard in the car. The subs and amp died last year, but I still have my 4 channel for my mids and highs. I was shocked when I powered this thing up and did some adjustments. This little sub thumped and put some enjoyment in old system. Its not window rattling and wouldn't make alarms go off in the parking lot, but it filled the cabin with great bass. I think I will buy a few more to install in my other vehicles!
This unit does a great job of doing one thing well. The lower frequency of the bass range has been relieved from the mid range speakers. My system sounds much better without being overdone, more in balance and not overworked.
Pros: Compact size, easy to install, good supporting bass without the boom
Cons: If you like a lot of boom this might not be the unit for you. It's more of supportive bass.
Jeeps are notoriously for being a brick on wheels with minimal space. This makes for some bad acoustics. I upgraded to 5.25" speakers in the front and 6.5" in the sound bar, but it still sounded hollow like a tin can. After reading various reviews on jeep forums, I went with this powered subwoofer. I picked it up on a scratch & dent sale. I also picked up a Rockford Fosgate 10ga wiring kit. The install took about 3 hours with wiring the amp to the battery and the amp to the head unit. I was going to mount it in the center console, but space wouldn't allow it. I mounted it dead center under the back seat, which makes for easy adjustment. The fine tuning bass controller was run to the center console to allow for changes depending on the song. I am very pleased with the sound this little package provides and how easy it was to do a professional install in my garage. If you're tired of the stock system in your jeep and don't want to give up the limited space available, this unit won't disappoint.
Pros: Good bass fill for poor acoustic vehicles Ease of install Technical support
Cons: None so far
Easy to instal and has greate sound.
Decent bass when adjusted correctly. However, the connection points are garbage. Best advice, buy the 8 gauge plugs, solder the ground, power and remote. This will create the best contact for the unit. Too bad they don't provide them. Had to purchase them locally.
Pros: Decent bass when placed in right spot.
Cons: Connection point sucks.
I got this for my 2006 Silverado CC HD. I put it under the rear seat and had plenty of room. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I am glad I did! It fills in the lows really nice. I was skeptical when I opened the box, it is very small. But, when I cranked it up, it sounded great. 30yrs ago I used to have a thumping system with 4 tens. I was not looking to reproduce that but my standards are pretty high for sound quality. The good news is that it doesn't sound boomy at all. I can have it cranked and outside my truck it sounds normal, not like some teenager mobile. The bass control knob is a nice touch- I use it to fine tune the bass. Overall, I am really happy that it sounds great and doesn't rumble the neighbors.
Pros: compact Easy to install
Cons: None so far.
Installed this in my 1991 Mazda Miata. Installed in trunk, installation was easy. Helped filling the sound out in the convertible. Was a very good addition to the sound system.
Pros: Small and easy to install.
Cons: Would not advise to use for deep hip-hop music.
I wanted to add some definition to my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I already have a Pioneer DEH-X8500BH Receiver. The factory speakers sound okay but the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD makes a some serious punch! Thanks Crutchfield for a great deal on a great powered sub!
Pros: Easy installation, takes up very little room.
I added this subwoofer to my 2000 Corvette and it has exceeded my expectations! This compact unit did not compromise the limited cargo space of the car; it delivers clear and deep bass and it is a great addition to the stock Bose speaker system. Also the remote volume control is a great option to have, you have a quick and easy ability to adjust you sub's volume without having to fumble through your head unit's menus.
Pros: Compact and great sounding design, plus a remote volume controler
Cons: None noted.
I need a compact sub to fit my little C230 hatchback. This tucks in without hogging up all the trunk space. It took all the burden off the stock speakers in carry the lows, making them sound great. Adjustable nob to customize the bass level to listeners needs. Powerful and pleasant.
Pros: Compact, adjustable, powerful
Has zero low end bass. It's all upper like 80hz up. It is loud however. I have years of experience with mobile audio and this sub isn't as good as any factory sub I've ever heard, which is all I was going for. Better off with a real sub/amp combo
Very nice package, works great in Jeep wrangler.
Giving this 5 stars based on what it is. It's a very small and compact sub that fits under the rear seat of my crew cab truck. I hooked it to the factory Bose system with a line output converter and an amp kit. The positive reviews online really convinced me to try it. And I am not disappointed. This thing puts out a lot of sound for such a small package. Makes listening to music more enjoyable and the bass remote knob is also a nice touch.
Incredibly clear and strong sub. Installed under my driver seat and it will shake my car. Not like duel 12's with a huge amp. This is perfect for rounding out a nice system for those not attempting to compensate for anything.
Pros: Clarity, ease of install, strength for size, compact.
Pros: Great product!
Ive had several powered subs, in various vehicles over the years. All of them did pretty much the same job, filling out the missing bass from deck/speaker replacements. This one actually blew me away. I mounted it under the middle of the back seat. It's hidden enough and won't get in the way of anything. It can either fill in the missing voids or turn up the dial and this sub actually hits pretty hard! I was shocked! It's only been a week but so far, I'm very impressed. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking to add substance to their vehicle.
Pros: Unbelievable sound, remote knob, easy to install
Overall good performance for the Unit. Once everything is properly adjusted.
Pros: Great improvement to factory stereo. For the money this unit provides good bass. Easy to install. Proper adjustment is worth the time. The remote turn-on works very well. Used an add on fuse holder to connect remote turn on. In my 2013 F-150 I used fuse location 41 in the passenger side kick plate.
Cons: The auto turn on does not work well with my factory stereo. Use the remote turn on!
Not what it's cracked up to be. Looks cool, seems like a good value, but sound quality just isn't there. Spend a little extra money and buy a good component sub and amp. Returned mine after 2 days.
Pros: Small and Compact, Amp and Sub all in One
Cons: Sound Quality
Second one I have owned. Sold the first one with my last TJ jeep. Had to have another one with my JK. Fits nice under passenger seat.
Pros: Compact .Great sound great price.
This product is amazing! I was going to purchase two for my Jeep Wrangler, but I would have ended up sending one back if I had done so. This product packs a powerful punch; if I'm sitting at a red light, I tend to turn it down to below 10, just so I don't upset the cars next to me. If you do purchase this product, make sure you purchase an amp kit along with it. Otherwise, I have absolutely no complaints.
Exactly what I needed! I had mixed emotions ordering this sub but once I hooked it up and got it going I was full of smiles. And it fit perfectly behind the seat in my truck. It rattles my rear view mirror which is pretty exciting. It's only limited on the really low frequencies. But I mean really really low frequencies. Which accounted for maybe two songs in my collection.
Pros: Price!! Size! Ease of use!
Cons: Real low frequencies. But it's only an 8" sub so expecting more would be unrealistic so this doesn't count as a con.
I bought this subwoofer for my single cab Chevy. I read quite a few reviews before I made my purchase and I couldn't be happier. The sub does shake my rear view mirror on some songs but for the most part it provides just the right amount of bass.
Pros: Great size fit behind my seat. Easy to wire up. The remote is awesome.
Cons: The self adhesive on the gain knob didn't work very long.
After a week of adjusting to it, it sounded better than originally did at first installation. I was looking for more of a thump, deeper bass so unfortunately I had to replace it with a different sub. I listen to more electronic, rap, hip-hop so it wasn't for me. Though it did well for rock, country and less bass filled genres.
Pros: Fills the mid-low bass really well
Cons: Doesn't satisfy deep bass
The perfect size and sound for my 69 corvette.
Pros: Size, sound and price
Installed a new receiver and speakers in '04 Jeep Wrangler 6 months ago. Had trouble getting decent sound UNTIL I installed this powered mini-sub. Now the whole system sounds amazing. Full, rich, loud and undistorted. Was originally planning on mounting the sub under the driver's seat or inside the center consul, but it was just slightly too big for either location. Ended up installing it in the rear cargo area. For such a compact unit, it's sound is huge and frees up the other speakers to do what they were designed to do in the mid and higher frequencies.
Pros: Great value, ease of installation, compact with BIG clear bass.
Small and perfect for underseat install.
After upgrading my 2014 Mazda3 factory speakers to Polk DB651S I needed a small subwoofer that will round out my system. I chose this subwoofer because of its small footprint and ample power. The subwoofer fits under the front seats; however I did not want to loose any foot room for the backseat passengers so I installed it behind the 2nd row seat. The subwoofer fits perfectly and takes up very little room. After tinkering with the settings I was able to obtain good bass response for variety of music. The most impressive part is the amount of bass this subwoofer is capable of handling. This is an excellent subwoofer for rock, pop, jazz, classical and even trance/ techno but not so much for hip pop. If you need a small subwoofer that rounds out your factory system then this is the one to get.
Pros: Small footprint Powerful bass Easy to install Easy to calibrate
Cons: The bass notes can be tighter
I Bought 2 of these for under my rear seat and installed 1 temporarily till I could get to installing the other.. All I got to say is WOW.. What a difference it made.. If your looking to Blow your windows or you want people to hear your Bass a Block away than this sub isn't for you.. If you want to get some clean clear bass and keep your space, than I recomend this powered subb.. I debating on even installing other one..
Pros: Price, quality, and space saving..
Cons: Can't think of any cons.... Hmmm if I come across any I'll be sure to update.
I like this product so much that I bought another one, thank you Crutchfield you have a great team of people working for you that helped me pick this item and the assistance I got too hook up my system for the sound that you get out of this product it is well worth your investment again thank you.
Pros: very easy to installed.
Cons: none to be found.
Great little bass!!! Easy hook up sounds awesome.
Pros: Great for small space!!!
Cons: None so far
Excellent bass to match factory system.
Pros: Not over bearing
Great sound from a small package..Installed this in my 04 Wrangler . Fit perfectly under the seat. Not earth shattering bass but more than fills in the bottom end. For my application I don't think you could find anything better.
Pros: small enough to be hidden under the seat. great price
Cons: none for me
I called Crutchfield for advice on increasing bass in my 08 Silverado extended cab without over powering the rest of my sound. I had already installed a JVC headunit and 4 Kicker 6 1/2 inch door speakers. Will, from Crutchfield, recommended this SO subwoofer. He nailed it!! Couldn't be more pleased!! I'm "fairly" handy and install was simple and took about an hour. Installed under the center of the rear seat firing upwards. Does exactly what I wanted, added good, clean bass. Like other folks have said, if you want quality listening music, this will work great. If your out to shake the neighbors......look another direction.
Pros: Great improvement to bass, simple install, and reasonable pricepoint
Cons: None at this time
I am very pleased with my purchase of this sub. You wont be able to start a block party from your trunk but this sub sounds great. I installed sub under the rear seat of my 2009 tundra. The sub does a great job filling the cabin with low end sound.
Pros: great price, very easy to install and good sound for tight spaces.
I ordered this thinking it would fill the lows not expecting any real bass. I kind of does but I wouldn't ever buy again. Just spend a few more $$$ and get what is needed. It only lasted 2 1/2 year before it crapped out b/c you have to turn it up at least 3/4 of the way to get anything noticeable - Crutchfield honored the warranty but no new warranty on the new one as it is still under the previous 3 yr warranty so it comes with a 6 month warranty. The new sub has a D class amp which I do not believe is even as decent as the last one but I am thankful to Crutchfield for a quality warranty but the sub is by far, below good level quality. I'll be selling it soon as I will upgrade.
Cons: no real bass - just a filler
Was really looking forward to adding this unit to our CR-V. The original sub was way too small and didn't deliver a solid low end. This unit is just a shade too tall and a hair too long with the wire lugs touching the seat structure. Not a problem for the gang at Crutchfield! I returned it and ordered upgraded door speakers that will widen the range and compensate for the factory sub, which I didn't reinstall. I have some room under the passenger seat for a future upgrade.
For its size it works for my purposes just fine. Setting the gain took a bit, but all in all, I like it
I bought this for my wife's small car. I can not believe the sound this little box has. It is a great value for the sub and the amp built in. I read some critical reviews on this but I was looking for something to fit inside of a small car that would be less work then hooking up a complete amp and sub system. This fit the bill and surpassed my expectations if this little box. I highly recommend this for anyone on a budget or someone whom does not want to take a long time to install a sub. I think this box works best in small spaces, such as small cars to regular cab trucks. Anything with a large volume of air space where the sub will be place should be installed with a bigger box a proper amp. But for my job this was perfect. I had reservations when I saw how small it is but it packs a big punch for its size.
Pros: Good value, easy installation. Big sound for a little box.
Cons: none yet
I have looked at all options of tuning this 8" woofer and nothing has panned out. If you listen to your music semi low and adjust the bass all the way up you can begin to even out the sound yet the boom becomes thunderous and you can no longer hear the strum of a deep guitar string or a tight hit when the time calls. I am sending it back and trading it for a RockF 10" or 12" with an amp for the same price. I'll build a small sealed box and find what I was looking for.
Pros: Crutchfield is the only place to shop for hastle free great deals and astounding service.
Cons: This box is built great but doesn't hold the key to fine tunes.
EAZsy and small but sounds large! Love it. Adds a thump to my Sienna's ride to town.
Pros: small and easy to install.
This is more like a mid bass with poor range. This has a lower end frequency of 80hz. Most good speakers hit that easily. I ordered this mainly because I am short on room and was going to stick it under the passenger side seat. But even for that purpose, it does not help much my speakers overpower, and it fails to bring out low frequencies.
Cons:Crutchfield response on December 30, 2014 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
I bought this subwoofer for my 89 S10 along with a new Kenwood Excelon receiver. All I can say is wow! This little speaker packs quite a punch and is a huge accomplishment to the existing speaker system. Before I had this there was just no bass in my system due to the small speaker size in the old trucks so this product made this thing sound AMAZING! Straight out of the box with factory settings it sounded incredible, quite punchy for an 8 inch. I recon as I mess with the equalizer on the receiver and play with the settings on the sub I can get it to sound even better. Installation was a breeze. I just have it resting on a rubber mat in the back of the cab. If your looking for nice low end frequencies to complete your system I 100 percent recommend this to anyone. Small, versatile, easy to hook up, and sounds amazing.
Pros: Quality, size, price, ease of installation, and sound.
Cons: Only thing I could negatively comment on is there is no bracket to mount the remote knob for the sub, it comes with an adhesive on the underside but an actual mounting bracket would be awesome. This did not hinder my overall experience with this product though.
Just installed this subwoofer in my son's 2006 Toyota Tundra along with new speakers and receiver. This subwoofer fit pretty good under the driver's seat. I am really impressed with this unit and the bass it provides. It isn't overpowering and adds the depth to the music we were looking for. I keep driving his truck just so I can listen to my music. Just need to remember to turn the volume down when I get out.
Pros: installation, sound quality, size
Cons: None at this point.
I was hesitant to purchase two of these for my car. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear and feel how well these subs worked. I installed them under the front seats of my Subaru Legacy and they provided great mid to low base that really helped bring "fullness" to my audio experience. I really liked them because they hid well, didn't take up any cargo space, and my passengers had a hard time noticing where the base came from since there was no subwoofer in back. I highly recommend these for anyone who wants compact strong subwoofers that want bass but don't have room for a 8"-10" woofer and box. I actually have an extra one for a future Mazda Miata project that I will slide under the driver seat.
Pros: Small, slim, clear bass, and built in amp.
Cons: Needs to come with some strap mounts or screw mounting tabs. The supplied velcro worked but I had an annoying time with my carpet adherence.
Installed this in a 2001 Chev. Crew Cab for my great grandson. It fit behind the rear set on the back wall of the cab. It has a great sound and all the kids think it's great.
It works perfectly for a single cab pickup. I glued in a couple 1x4s behind the carpet on the back wall of my single cab 93 s10. I mounted it on the wall and i couldnt be happier
I installed this in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Since I didn't want to loose any cargo room, I installed it in the center console where the factory subwoofer would go. This turned out to work very well, and I only lost space that I would throw small items into. This really made my system come to life. I am currently running Infinity Kappa's in the dash and overhead sound pods.
Pros: Small Size, Good Value
Wow, what an improvement for the stock radio. Love the bass, not to much, but just right.
Pros: Easy to install, found the right place behind the crew cab back seat. Great instructions and tech help over the phone.
Cons: Should have purchased one long ago. If that's a con ??
Nice sound. Gave me a nice rounded sound system. Not overwhelming bass but it gave me the thump I was missing
Pros: cost and size
Great sound, high quality, easy to install.
Pros: Takes up little space
I purchased this to fill in the low end when doing minor upgrades to the audio system of my 2015 Forester. I kept the factory head unit, installed a set of Focal Polyglass 165VRs that I already had, an Alpine KTP-445U to power the components, and this powered sub.
The sub does great and helps fill in the low end that the component speaker setup is lacking. I am especially impressed considering it's small size and low price. I installed mine using the high level input by tapping into the front speaker wires coming from the back of the head unit harness. It fit perfectly under the driver's power seat after trimming the rear seat heater vent. I find the auto turn on using the high level input to be finicky so I ran a remote turn on lead to a switched +12V output. I removed the remote level control from it's housing and just the board fit great in a factory blank in my center console.
If you keep your expectations realistic and tune the sub correctly you will probably be happy with it. It's not going to have the sound quality or loudness of a high-end component sub in a larger box being fed by a high power amp. If you are looking for the type of bass you would experience in a club, look elsewhere. What it does do is fit in places where it is practically invisible and provide the low end that is missing in most systems without a sub. Tune it correctly and go easy on the bass boost and it will provide good, clean bass at reasonable volumes.
Pros: Small size that allows it to be installed under many seats. 0-180 degree phase adjustment to fine tune it. High level and low level inputs so it can be integrated into a system without low level outputs without needing a LOC. Easily accessible controls so it can be tuned with the car put back together. Good, clean sound at reasonable volume levels.
Cons: It is only 125W so it cannot keep up with high powered components at higher volume levels (my Focals are receiving 90W each). Auto turn on when using high level inputs is finicky. The housing and knob for the remote volume control are huge (the housing can be removed but the knob size can still limit placement in a dash or center console). Can be boomy if the gains are turned up too high and the volume is set high.
Ford F350 XLT Crew Cab. Factory stereo without sub. Ordered this little powered subwoofer to get some bass. Quite impressive! Fits behind the seat where the factory sub would have been. The truck's stereo was not equipped with a sub pre-out, so wired it by splicing in to the rear left and right speakers. Used the amp supplied volume/level control so you can control the bass level from the driver's seat. Spliced the sub's power wire to a switched line so it powers off/on based on ignition switch position. To do it right you should remove the rear seats in order to pull off the speaker/pillar panels and get to the speaker wiring.
Pros: powered clean base easy settings comes with wired volume/level controller
Cons: if vehicle's stereo not equipped with sub out, extra steps to splice in to factory speakers, use the sub volume/level controller, but not a deal breaker!
Sounds bigger than it looks. Really fills out the sound in my crew cab truck. Pretty easy to install. Glad Crutchfield recommended it. Only con is remote cord is too short.
Pros: Small and sounds great.
Cons: Remote cord is too short.
