Fill your vehicle with bass, not equipment

Want to put some bass to your vehicle without a lot of fuss? Sound Ordnance's B-8PTD powered subwoofer is the latest version of the B-8PT, one of our all-time best-selling compact powered subwoofers. Sound Ordnance built this new version to perform even better than its predecessor, putting a cool-running 125-watt amp and a rugged aluminum 8" sub in an extremely compact, solid ABS plastic enclosure,so you get years of bass satisfaction. This all-in-one unit frees you from having to deal with a separate sub, amp, and enclosure, saves you cargo space, and simplifies your wiring requirements. Whether it's mounted under your car seat or in an out-of-the-way location in the cab of your truck, this little workhorse will surprise you with its impressive bass and its ability to mesh perfectly with the rest of your system.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered sub

This compact sub delivers strong bass without taking up much space.

Big bass from this tough little sub

A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered subwoofer

The molded ABS enclosure houses a 125-watt amp and a tough little 8" sub.

Good design helps

The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.

Who needs a powered subwoofer?

To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk.

Excellent Amplified Subwoofer

Written By Michael CH, Colorado on Wednesday, May 06, 2015

Excellent Amplified Subwoofer with all necessary wiring, connectors, cable, etc. I had a professional installer put the unit under drivers' seat replacing OEM unit in a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited 30th Anniversary. Very happy with the sound and having a radio/cassette/CD in use again. Thank you for the online information.

Pros: Just what I needed and an excellent fit under drivers' seat. Quality of sound superb with the adjustable bass control.

Cons: N/A

Quick Fix- You should know better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I should have known that you're not going to get real bass out of a thin box. All instincts said "no" but it fit my space and was affordable without putting additional amp/ sub combo. What you get is additional bass to existing sound but it easily overwhelms the sound in back seat when it sounds decent in the front. The remote control is essential because volumes change between radio/ aux and you must adjust bass accordingly. Not sure of the low frequency range but it ain't much. Remember, you're amplifying all sound so if the bass is midway on your deck, you're amplifying that bass, it's not pre-amped so, to limit overwhelming the speaker you have to reduce the bass at your deck. Now your front speakers are getting no bass! I wouldn't recommend this unit unless you have few options.

Pros: Some "bass" for those with few options

Cons: Ignores the reality that you must have a cabinet with sufficient airspace to truly have bass

BIG sound little box

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second style of sound ordnance self powered subs from Crutchfield and I am completely satisfied with it. I purchased this to go in my f250 crew cab under the rear seat. It gives music the depth and character of a custom stereo without breaking the bank. It wont shatter windows and it wont wake up the neighborhood but it will please the ear for the passengers inside. Decent bass for such a compact design. Easy to install for the Diy person with basic knowledge of stereo installations. Thanks Crutchfield, always there to assist with excellent customer service!

Pros: Low price, easy to install. Remote bass boost knob, big sound, small box, space saver.

Cons: None if you know what you want!

Great little sub, beats the competition

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a powerful, nice sounding little sub for the money. I can directly compare it with the Kicker Hideaway because I owned that product before this one, and this sub has plenty of punch to keep up with most of the oem or low- to mid-range systems it will likely be paired with. The Kicker does produce tighter bass, which is better-sounding to my ear, but in sheer loudness and butt-shaking ability the B-8PTD performs admirably. It's just a little more "boom" than "thud" - but in my opinion, at half the price of the Hideaway the very slight advantage the Kicker has over the SO in sound quality is not even remotely worth the extra dollars.

Pros: Excellent bang for the buck. It's LOUD. Easy to install.

Cons: Little boomy for my taste.

Great bang for buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was hesitant that this subwoofer could give me something substnantial but I was really impressed with how much power this little box packs. It won't rattle your doors or let your neighbors know you're home and it stuggles at high volumes but honestly if you want just a little kick; this thing is awesome.

Pros: Inexpensive, great to add low end and a little bump

Cons: Gets a little hollow sounding at high volumes

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing kicks in my 1964 Impala! Love it. Installation was cake. Without this powered sub-woofer, my stereo sounded wimpy but once I installed it it made 100% difference. Installation was easy...I also purchased the optional wiring kit from Crutchfield that had everything needed for the installation. This unit paired with my Retrosound Zuma and three-way speakers sounds great. Thanks Crutchfield for your excellent support from my intitial contact through installation. Much appreciated.

Pros: Small in size, big in sound.

Cons: No complaints.

Great sound, clear bass. Not a window rattler but just the right amount of bass to complete the full sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 1994 Ford Ranger XL simply put, the factory stereo was pure Garbage. I didn't have a lot of money to spend but wanted decent sounding music in my truck so I bought this to go with a JVC head unit and 4 Blaupunkt speakers. The transformation was more than I expected. I'm almost 50 so I didn't want a sub that announced my coming 6 blocks away, I just wanted a nice rich sounding bass to go with the speakers. I got what I wanted. The whole set up sounds amazing. If I had known how good the Sound Ordnance sub was gonna be I would have ordered the Sound Ordnance speakers also. Top notch quality and sound as far as I'm concerned.

Pros: Great Price! Great sound! Fits nicely in a small space!

Cons: None

Great Powered Sub

Written By Jimmy, Wichita,KS on Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sub is awesome! I installed last weekend and it seems that I have a whole new library of music...that now has bass. Installation was as easy as expected, hiding wires under trim and carpet. I am still fine tuning the settings and I keeps getting better every day. I was hoping it would fit under the front 60/40 seat of my 2002 Silverado 1/2 T Ext cab but I have heat ducts and a cross bar that was about 1/4" to low. It does however fit nicely under the rear seat on the cent hump using the supplied velcro pads is pretty secure and can be moved in needed.

Pros: Excellent bass in a small package.

Cons: Wouldn't fit under 02 Silverado frt seat. Wish controls were angled up to provide better visibility.

Nice Thump for a small package!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in my old 1998 Nissan 200sx daily driver. It fitted perfectly in the corner of the trunk so I did not have to sacrifice trunk space. I was skeptical about it at first since I remembered how my two 10" sony xplod subs use to hit hard in the car. The subs and amp died last year, but I still have my 4 channel for my mids and highs. I was shocked when I powered this thing up and did some adjustments. This little sub thumped and put some enjoyment in old system. Its not window rattling and wouldn't make alarms go off in the parking lot, but it filled the cabin with great bass. I think I will buy a few more to install in my other vehicles!

Worth the money

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit does a great job of doing one thing well. The lower frequency of the bass range has been relieved from the mid range speakers. My system sounds much better without being overdone, more in balance and not overworked.

Pros: Compact size, easy to install, good supporting bass without the boom

Cons: If you like a lot of boom this might not be the unit for you. It's more of supportive bass.

Woke Up My 98 Jeep Wrangler

Written By AKTJ, Alaska on Thursday, April 16, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Jeeps are notoriously for being a brick on wheels with minimal space. This makes for some bad acoustics. I upgraded to 5.25" speakers in the front and 6.5" in the sound bar, but it still sounded hollow like a tin can. After reading various reviews on jeep forums, I went with this powered subwoofer. I picked it up on a scratch & dent sale. I also picked up a Rockford Fosgate 10ga wiring kit. The install took about 3 hours with wiring the amp to the battery and the amp to the head unit. I was going to mount it in the center console, but space wouldn't allow it. I mounted it dead center under the back seat, which makes for easy adjustment. The fine tuning bass controller was run to the center console to allow for changes depending on the song. I am very pleased with the sound this little package provides and how easy it was to do a professional install in my garage. If you're tired of the stock system in your jeep and don't want to give up the limited space available, this unit won't disappoint.

Pros: Good bass fill for poor acoustic vehicles Ease of install Technical support

Cons: None so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Decent bass when adjusted correctly. However, the connection points are garbage. Best advice, buy the 8 gauge plugs, solder the ground, power and remote. This will create the best contact for the unit. Too bad they don't provide them. Had to purchase them locally.

Pros: Decent bass when placed in right spot.

Cons: Connection point sucks.

Better Than I had hoped

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this for my 2006 Silverado CC HD. I put it under the rear seat and had plenty of room. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I am glad I did! It fills in the lows really nice. I was skeptical when I opened the box, it is very small. But, when I cranked it up, it sounded great. 30yrs ago I used to have a thumping system with 4 tens. I was not looking to reproduce that but my standards are pretty high for sound quality. The good news is that it doesn't sound boomy at all. I can have it cranked and outside my truck it sounds normal, not like some teenager mobile. The bass control knob is a nice touch- I use it to fine tune the bass. Overall, I am really happy that it sounds great and doesn't rumble the neighbors.

Pros: compact Easy to install

Cons: None so far.

Installed this in my 1991 Mazda Miata. Installed in trunk, installation was easy. Helped filling the sound out in the convertible. Was a very good addition to the sound system.
