Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered sub

This compact sub delivers strong bass without taking up much space.

Big bass from this tough little sub

A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered subwoofer

The molded ABS enclosure houses a 125-watt amp and a tough little 8" sub.

Good design helps

The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.

For a small sub it has a lot of punch it was easy to install

Impressive punch from such a small enclosure

Written by: monsdomain from Salt Lake City, UT on May 3, 2016

2007 Hyundai Sonata

Matched this with 2 pairs of 2-way polk audio speakers and an old Kenwood receiver. Nice solid bass without drowning out the sound from the other speakers. Just enough punch without annoying other cars at a traffic stop. Straight forward install but make sure you have all the hardware before you begin to save you multiple trips to your local car audio or hardware store in the middle of the install. What you'll need: Wires: - 2 sets of speaker wires if using the high level input (RCA cable for low level input) - 14 AWG minimum for 12V+ (red) and GND (black) - Remote turn on wire (blue) Other necessities: - connection terminals - heat shrink or electrical tape - zip or other cable ties Look elsewhere if you want earth shaking and windows rattling type of sub woofer. Glad I got one before it went out of stock

Pros: Small footprint, produces plenty of bass for the size, ample RMS power, easy install, solid build

Cons: No wires included. Much prefer including the necessary wires than promotion materials such as S/O dog tag and decal

Sub Install

For its size the sub really hits hard. With some support from the outstanding Crutchfeild support team I was able to complete the project. Only issue I ran into was when wiring and using the four channel output to factory radio be sure and take small speaker wire from remote input to the positive side of the output on the four channel. This will give ample power and allow sub to really beat!

Pros: It beats, for its size!

Cons: Wiring a tad difficult but just call Crutchfeild they got your back.

Very nice! I was used to a separate 10" or 12" sub in the back seat of my 1998 F150. I could truly FEEL the subs. Didn't really have much faith in the sound ordnance unit that would fit under a seat but... Could that little thing do the job in the crew cab? Would I again have to sacrifice my back seats? I was pleasantly surprised. The connections were simple, the seats were not sacrificed and the performance was great. I just wanted a enough "thump" to round out my sound and it did that with plenty to spare. Don't get it twisted, its not a separate 12" sub butt hen again I'm not trying to be heard coming down the street anymore.

Pros: Size, fit, performance

Cons: none

Awesome Sound

I have been getting my sound system to what I want but couldn't get the amount of bass from my audio system. I had a powered sub-woofer before so I went the same route. I didn't want to get deaf like some of the cars out there but enough to get a good bass thump! I have the amp under the pass. seat so I had to put it under the driver seat. After getting everything setup and tested, I tried seating on the seat to see if I could feel the bass but it was so minimal that you wouldn't know it's there. So perfect, you can hear the bass but not feel it! Anyone who want to just get that extra bass thump without installing a big amp and sub-woofer, it is the way to go! It was a little long for my seat but the rear mat covered up the end to hide the unit. It also comes with a remote to control the amount of bass you want without going to the unit to adjust! Awesome!

Pros: I love everything about this powered sub-woofer! Just amount of bass thump without going deaf! Awesome sound!

Cons: The only things is that it's an inch too long but that's the only con I could think of.

It was easy to install and it has filled the missing bass void. This powered-sub works well with my Polk Audio door speakers and Sony receiver. Nice thing I could fit it under my rear seat so it does take up cargo space.

Pros: Good price. Easy setup. Nice quality sound.

Cons: None so far, since it was installed in March.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little sub surpasses my expectations. BMWs are notorious for having cabins that are a little too sealed off from the trunk. This makes traditional sub/amp combos a pain, because you're more likely to hear the bass outside of the car as opposed to inside. I was a little wary about the size and power this sub would have though. In short, my seats have zero room under them, so I chose to put this guy on my rear seat in the center. (no way you're fitting a 3rd person in the center rear seat of an e36 bmw anyways) The bass is solid, don't expect window shaking, but it will vibrate my seat a bit with certain songs. It has a mild vibration sound, overall I'd give the sound quality 4 stars. I'd prefer a little crisper hit, but the size and price make up for the short comings. I didn't think it'd be very loud so I actually bought two just in case, and I'll be sending the second one back or selling it to my friend, because one is plenty for my car. All in all, if you want to fill out the lows of any system, this is worth every dollar and won't sacrifice much space at all. If you want to shake windows, look for a "classic" full sized box. Hookup was very simple. (I used RCA cables) I'll definitely be using this in future cars. Great addition to any system, light, affordable, and small.

Pros: Small, surprising punch, light, half the price of other compacts, easy hook up, build quality seems very solid.

Cons: The velcro strips that come with it are junk. (small and don't grip anything), bass isn't AS crisp as I'd like (still quite good though), If you had to mount it under a seat or in the back, making adjustments other than bass level would be a pain (however, I'm a set it and forget it type of person so it works great for me)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I bought my 2-door 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport last year, I immediately upgraded the stock unit with a Kenwood KDC-X998 and added some Alpine speakers. Now I've added this sub, which I am very pleased with. I don't want to be heard coming from two blocks away; I just wanted some better bottom end while listening to the Prog Rock I favor. This sub is perfect for that. It fills my Jeep with sound, even over that normal Jeep roar you get at highway speeds. I virtually never run it at maximum, and even have to dial it back a bit on some songs. But, the wired remote I mounted on the center console near my right knee makes that easy. One caveat....I thought it would fit under the passenger seat but, that was a no-go. However, I just rotated the unit 90 degrees and anchored it in the foot-well behind the seat. We never have anyone ride in the back (in fact, I have removed the rear seat entirely and stored it in my garage), so it is not a problem. But, this may be something to consider if you have a Jeep with people in and out of the rear seat. Very pleased.

Pros: Great sound. Great price. Remote is nice.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what this item is, it's great. I can admit I was going into owning one with higher expectations though. This thing simply can not hit the lows that i wanted it to in my ford ranger. Someone in another review mentioned that it just 'disappears' when lows are playing, and that is true, it vanishes. The hz it can produce, aren't even really that loud. I had to turn the gain up all the way, to really even hear it... like i said for what it is , a small compact subwoofer that fits just about anywhere, its okay. but do not go in with high expectations like i did.

Pros: compact.

Cons: not very loud. Does not reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2008 Honda Accord LX-P sedan. Placed this under the passenger seat, used an EFX PA10BX wiring kit to connect it. Able to run wires via the center console to the stereo and out the lower edge of the console (covering the wires with plastic flex tubing), no need to use the mounting kit as it is snug under the seat and a floormat keeps it in place, left just enough slack to be able to move the seat forward and pull it out to adjust. Placed the inline volume/level adjuster by the front seat. Took about two weeks of tweaking with it to find the sound that worked best for me. More than enough power to fill the car with bass. Pretty impressive with most music so far, if you're a bass head this probably won't work for you but for anything other than deep 808s it does very well.

Pros: Easy install, controls are convenient to get to, lots of power for a small 8" sub. Compact enough to fit under the front seat.

Cons: Can't handle the deepest bass without a bit of rattle, but really, it is only an 8" sub.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this powered subwoofer along with a EFX PA10BX Wiring Kit from Crutchfield. I want to say I do not have any experience installing electronic devices, yet I was able to install this subwoofer in my Chevy Colorado in 30 minutes. Super easy installation. The subwoofer compliments my Kicker 43DSC6504 DS Series 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers. The bass the subwoofer produces is does not overpower the high and mid range sounds and it comes with an adjustable bass dial that I installed onto my center console beneath the steering wheel -- easy access to make adjustments. The sound is perfect for me as I do not like super thumping bass when listening to my music. The connection to my Pioneer MVH-X380BT receiver was super easy. All in all, I got a great deal for great sounds.

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to install.

Cons: None so far.

It was not as easy to install as I first thought. I had power connection issues but thanks to Tech support I was able to get it working properly. I like the fact that I can increase or decrease the bass with a turn of the dial. The extra bass enhances the sound and was exactly what I was looking for as well as extremely affordable.

Pros: Adjustable bass and very affordable.

Cons: Somewhat difficult to install.

A Mixed Bag

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was torn between 2 or 3 stars. This sub is certainly loud, but not very accurate. For me (using factory stereo speaker leads as inputs) it seemed to make everything sound like a kick drum. With the 80-150 Hz crossover set as low as it would go, this sub still created a lot of the mid- and upper bass I was already getting from my factory speakers, so it was a case of it being a fine line between actually hearing the sub, and getting too much from the sub. I returned my S/O sub for the Kicker Hideaway and have been Much happier despite the jump in cost. Also, I had an issue with the the S/O sub not triggering on automatically (as it should have done) from just my speaker level inputs. It was inoperative 75% of the time. Have had no trouble at all with the Kicker auto-turning on via the same speaker leads, and am much happier I spent the extra money, but this S/O sub has some redeeming features. Give it a try, if it works well for your application, great! If not, Crutchfield is very good about returns and is a factory-authorized Kicker dealer, so you can trade up with peace of mind.

Pros: Very solidly constructed, well designed connections, dog tag included in the box, and a cool B-17G drawing is on the container box. The infinitely variable phase control allows fine-tuning of this critical parameter. Can be turned up loud. The level control is very discreet and looks great.

Cons: Didn't switch on consistently, not much nuance or low bass, even at low volumes and with crossover as low as it would go (80 Hz). Makes most everything sound like a kick drum. Wiring connections are on both ends rather than restricted to one end of the enclosure.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This powered sub was a piece of cake to install. It fits perfectly under my truck seat and provides enough bass to not only hear it, but feel it. You won't be winning any competitions with this sub, but it will do a whole lot better than any factory sub that comes with your car. I like that fact that it is an 8 in because it is a nice and tight sounding bass. The bigger the sub, the more sloppy it sounds in my opinion. I prefer the tighter more controlled base and this 8 in delivers that. The base control nob is great and I really don't have any complaints. It feel solid and weighs a decent amount. It is nice to have the added base in my truck without having to take up an extra seat. I almost bought another brand and I am glad that I didn't.

Pros: Tight bass Easy install Perfect for under truck seat Hits decent for size

Cons: I really don't know of anything except maybe make it hit a little harder?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited due to the limited space. It fit nicely under the passengers seat. Installation was pretty straight forward. Nothing complicated. I used the line-in for a signal as I installed this with a stock stereo. Sound is pretty good for a unit this size. I was very surprised. However, it tends to be very overpowering and not very "tight". Might be better if I was using RCA inputs. The remote volume is nice but the assembly is kind of cheap. In my previous vehicle (super duty crew cab) I used a Kenwood 12" sub in a Sound Ordinance enclosure with a 600 watt Kenwood amp. This sub is nothing like that, but I'm learning to live with it. It really adds some much needed bass.

Pros: compact size, easy install, pretty fair sound for the money

Cons: not very tight, sounds mushy at times

Great Sub for the Money and Space

Written by: Kevin from Atlanta, GA on January 31, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little subwoofer. I installed it in my 2016 wrangler 4 door. The main issue I had with the installation was trying to use the high level inputs. Apparently this is a common issue. Once I installed a line out converter with rca's and a remote turn on lead it worked perfectly. I could have saved a few hours troubleshooting the installation if I would have known that in advance. One interesting thing is the line out converter I used is auto sensing and provides a remote turn on lead. It works perfectly. So the issue is clearly the auto turn on built in the subwoofer. I guess that's how they keep the price so low. Because of that, I can't give this woofer 5 stars. So if you buy this sub, also use a line out converter if using your factory speakers. Do not use the high level inputs.

Pros: Size. It's tiny and priced right.

Cons: The high level inputs don't work very well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this subwoofer because I wanted something compact that would fit in my Miata. This fits neatly in the passenger footwell. I am very impressed with the bass output. I have some dialing-in to do, as I simply turned all the knobs on the unit to halfway, and even without properly setting it up, it complements my 6.5" Polks very well. I barely have the volume on the remote turned up at all and it provides more than enough bass. The price was great, too.

Pros: Extremely small profile, easy to set up, very good bass output for its size, and a low price.

Cons: None I can think of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2015 Wrangler 2 door with stock non-Alpine radio. I replace the head unit, speakers, and added this Sub for a little bass. I listen mostly to rock, hard rock, little country, and a little pop. This will NOT fit under the seat of the 2 door wrangler due to the seats spring mechanism. I mounted it to the tailgate using the supplied mounting brackets with no issue. I have the tuffy security enclosure which makes the back area basically a car trunk. After install was complete I actually like it better there than under the seat. I would rate sound quality as excellent for all rock (you can really feel the kick drum), excellent for all country, and great for most pop. This will not satisfy those looking for booming bass for rap music. Overall I am very happy with the purchase with no regrets.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an 2015 F350 crew cab and this was the perfect solution to the lack of bottom end from the factory system! I tapped into my rear speakers and used a line converter to be able to use the rca jacks on the subwoofer. I highly recommend doing it this way and not just run speaker wire into unit. I liked that it fit right behind the rear seat on the floor. I just relocated the jack. You have to play around with the adjustments a bit and then it sounds great! Don't expect the windows to rattle cause it wont do that. Don't forget the wiring kit. Bass control works great! We will see how long it lasts.

Pros: Easy hookup..Does what it's supposed to do. Fairly cheap.

Went over measurements with tech, assured me this would be a futunder my truck seat. (2013 Tacoma sport) - it was not, and the place I took it to went ahead and installed it, behind the rear seat drivers side. Rattles, is muffled, it was a done deal so I just left it be. Too busy to muck with it at the time, I regret not returning it But I had to pay for the install. So, I am stuck with a muffled , rattling mess.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was NOT expecting this thing to sound as good as it does. It filled out all of the frequencies I was missing after my Christmas speaker upgrade. Honestly, I don't think I could tell a difference between the SO sub and one costing twice as much (which is what I was considering). This is a perfect way to finish up a budget-minded stereo upgrade without sacrificing much if anything. It fits neatly under my seat, the volume control mounted in the center console within easy reach (the pot comes out of the stock plastic case and can be mounted against a switch blank, if you have one), and matches my needs for the car's system perfectly. Not too much, not too little.

Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality, size.

Cons: Plastic chassis is the only thing I can think of, and that's picking nits.

Perfect for what I wanted to do.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 2000 GMC sierra that still looks brand new. I'm real fussy about it's maintenance. The truck has a premium sound system that works fine with a replacement Sony Blue Tooth radio but when driving down the road it was lacking enough bass response. I wanted something that could reinforce the bass but not a competition thumper. After looking at a lot of powered sub woofers this one fit the bill for taking very little space under the rear seat behind the driver and does a lot better job than I expected. It can even produce too much clear bass than I needed. Great little unit!

Pros: A lot of bass from a compact unit.

Cons: The power terminals could be better but they work.

For such a small size this sub really sounds great! I installed it under the back seat of a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ. It was a perfect fit and you cannot tell it is there. I bought the Scoche amp install kit with it and within 1 hour I was testing the system. If you have a small space to work with or just don't want to have a big box taking up space buy this unit, you won't regret it!

Pros: Small size, easy installation, well built.

Cons: None at this time.

Installed this in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK. Fits nicely under the passenger's seat. The sound quality is excellent for such a small unit. Provides a full rich sound, rounding out the bass that the other speakers can't provide. Will fill the vehicle with plenty of sound, but doesn't annoy the neighboring vehicles. Take your time getting this thing "tuned" properly and you'll love it.

Pros: Great sound quality.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Just what I wanted. Added the low end that my system was missing. Not one to wake the neighbors as you drive down the street but just the right amount for my F150 Crew Cab. Definitely made a great improvement difference in my sound system.

Pros: Straight forward install in my truck. I had already previously upgraded my player so I'm sure this made it and easier setup than the factory radio would have been. I'm by no means a pro but I do have mechanical skills and kind of techy.

Cons: So far I have no problems with this system. I did mount this underneath my F150 drivers seat but I had an air duct there so I had to use spacers under the rear of the unit to keep airflow open to the rear seat.

Great compliment to a basic stereo system that did not have a subwoofer. I am not savvy with stereo equipment, so the easy setup was great. For the price, this combo is just what I was looking for, but you do have to have realistic expectations. You want bass thumping inside and out, look someplace else (and spend way more $$$). May purchase another one for a second vehicle.

Pros: Slim design. Simple setup. Decent quality

Cons: None that I have found based on price range of the product

Had one of these in my 2010 Dodge Ram and loved it. Tried to put one in my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with my stock head unit. It would only power up intermittently. Tried a fuse tap per Crutchfield tech support. Same problem. Had to return the unit. Lesson learned: If it's not plug and play, I don't want it. When someone comes out with a system to fit my truck at a reasonable price where all my features work to include rearview camera and everything is plug and play, I will be interested. Until then, I must listen to my stock system. My recommendation is, if you want a sub, make sure your head unit has dedicated RCA connections for your sub; don't bother trying to connect it to speaker wires of your stock head unit.

Pros: Crutchfield tech support. MasterSheets.

Cons: Would only work intermittently when installed per instructions.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty happy with this subwoofer. Installation wasn't a big deal on my 2010 Forester, just removed the seat to make it much easier. This unit is not a replacement for a much larger subwoofer, but it does provide better sound than I was expecting considering the size and price. It can shake my mirrors and delivery some decent "punch", but it won't shake the next car over. The sub sounds flawless for bass heavy pop and the like. Metal (which I listen to mostly) makes the sub struggle a little, so an external sub eq would help out. However, the sound quality is still good enough that most people won't need to bother with this extra equipment. After playing with the settings on the sub and my head unit, I was able to get metal sounding fairly crisp.

Pros: -Compact -Well Priced -Good sound quality

Cons: -Would like to see an on board multi-band eq (not really a big deal if your head unit has a decent eq and some sub tuning settings)

Written by: BKey from Haysville, KS on November 18, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not worth the money in my opinion. It does not reproduce "sub" bass notes (30hz to 80Hz range) so I'm not sure how it can be called a subwoofer. It does have pretty good punch for drums but will not hit the low notes. I have a less expensive computer speaker system with a 22 watt ported 6" subwoofer that outperforms this unit in every way. It also had a cheap sound to it ... as if you could tell it was mounted in a plastic box. I've heard several 8" subs that sound way better than this one. I ultimately returned the unit and purchased an amp and sub separately and built my own box ... custom fit to the truck. This is much more time consuming and cost about twice as much but it is so worth it.

Pros: Small, easy to install, connect & setup. The controls (gain, crossover, remote bass control, etc. ) all worked just fine.

Cons: Poor Performance ... does not reproduce low bass notes and sounds cheap.

Perfect fit for 2015 Forester.

This sub puts out a lot more punch than I expected for the price. Installation couldn't be easier. I installed it in a 2015 Subaru Forester, under the passenger seat. You have to remove the passenger seat for the installation, but once the seat is out, it fits into a compartment there like it was made for it. Wired remote is nice.

Pros: Fit my application like it was factory installed.

Cons: Mounting brackets kind of a pain. Suggest using stereo controls for tuning.

This product is amazing for its price, never heard of a built in amp at first but thought I'd give it a try for more bass in front of car, very promising, I love it! That and it's a fraction of the price for subs, of course it's not as loud as subs but adds a good amount of bass.

Pros: Easy installation, great bass for 8", fits under passenger seat, great price for amount of bass

Cons: Took a while to fine tune but that's nothing against the product, the auto tune isn't good at all

Fits just fine under the driver seat of my 2009 Subaru Impreza. Plenty of volume. The frequency response only goes down to 40 Hz. It will not reproduce the low bass notes you want to hear. I returned it for the comparably sized Kicker (which also fits in the same location). I am much happier with the Kicker over this model. To summarize, get this if you don't like bass, get the Kicker if you want to hear the rest of the bass in your music.

Pros: Ease of installation. Compact size. Good volume.

Cons: Does not reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz.

I installed box under rear seat of 2002 toyota tundra . Great sound and when installed correctly will give people the idea you have a 10 inch sub .Installed using a Kenwood deck with separate sub controls I used no filtration on the sub box enclosure itself. Allowing me to use the head unit for all filtration of sound giving me a well balanced system with amazing bass enough to shake both front seats I also mounted directly to the floor pan of the vehicle with a solid firm connection ,this is key to get big sound and feel. The driver needs to push and pull if you just lay it on the floor it to will cancel out half you sound . I would never use high inputs on anything so I can't speak for those who want to but I would not expect my result with high input used. Gain control knob works great especially when watching movies so you can turn down the boom for the kids on the fly . Great product ,I would buy again.

Pros: Small size ,just enough power for size. Price

Cons: Mounting brackets should not be plastic, and should come with self tapping screws.

I have had my subwoofer for over a year until it decided to stop working. Luckily, with the 3 year warranty and amazing customer service at crutchfield, I was able to have the thing replaced. After a 5 minute phone conversation with tech support, I had another of these subs on the way. Just need to pack up the old one and send it off; no questions asked! The sub itself does what it says it can do. It fits under the back seat of my truck, projects throughout the entire cab, and will shake my side mirrors if the gain is all the way up. If you're on a budget like I was, this is the way to go. I just wish other people could hear the bass from my truck, but you won't get that from a subwoofer this small. Overall 4/5 stars. Good for people who aren't familiar with sound or if this is your first install.

Cons: Won't wake the neighbors

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this until to fill in some bass on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler 4-door. This unit more than fills the bill. I have an aftermarket head unit, with stock speakers. My original plan was to upgrade the stock speakers, but I'm getting such a good overall sound out of this, I think I might just stick with the setup as is - very pleased. This unit fits perfectly under the passengers seat of the Jeep - out of sight, yet really fills the cabin with a nice deep base sound, that even thumps a little bit. Couldn't be happier with the sound, especially for the price. In retrospect, I'd have paid easily double the cost to get the sound I have. I get lots of compliments from passengers on the sound. This sub of course is no substitute for a speaker box and big amps. If you are looking for a real hard hitting bass system, this isn't it. If you are looking for a compact, inexpensive package that can easily be hidden and really fill in some sound, look no further. Having this sub, allowed me to use the high-pass filters built into my head unit. It took about an hour of tweaking the various high pass/low pass filters and the subwoofer output. Take the time to set this correctly, and you'll love it.

Pros: Great sound, inexpensive, hides under the seat easily.

Cons: None

Fill in the lows!

Written by: hugh dogg from Virginia on September 24, 2015

If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you! I installed this in a 98 Jeep Cherokee. My hope was that it would fill in the low tones that the smallish after-market speakers I put in couldn't produce. Boy does it ever! I placed it on the floor board of the rear drivers side. There isn't quite enough room to tuck it under the seat in a Cherokee. There are controls on the unit for frequency and other things beyond my knowledge. I fiddled with them until I got the sound I was looking for. Then there is the remote knob that you can attach within reach of the drivers seat to adjust the general degree of bass up or down. This function is critical for getting the sound just right depending on the style and production of your jams. I did the install myself which was pretty straight forward and took about 3 hrs and a bit of online video viewing. I'm fairly novice with this stuff too so as you know. I would describe my set up as very entry level after-market with a basic Dual receiver, a couple of budget Kicker 2ways in the rear and the Sound Ordnance sub. It can handle way more sound than I would ever demand of it. If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you!

Pros: Very compact Lots of adjustment options Remote control 2 year warranty

Cons:

The remote gain is great for when kids ride along. Just the right amount of adjustments on the amp to get the pop/punch/boom you want for the music you like to listen to. Works really well with the Kenwood 2DIN receiver i put in. For the amount and ease of installing, you really can't beat the cost/performance ratio. Recommended

Four stars...would have been five but my unit quit after three years. This unit was easy to hook up. It was my first time ever installing an amp kit. Also Crutchfield support was awesome in helping me figure out the oem speaker wires to splice into when installing this unit. It worked great. It took time to adjust the settings as I thought slight adjustments made a huge difference both good and bad. I put it behind my seats in my 2011 Crew Cab F350 and yes this doesn't rattle windows of near by houses but surprisingly it can thump inside a car and I think it's the perfect balance of excess vs usability. So why am I reviewing now? Well I bet my unit's failure was a fluke and I'm getting ready to order another one. You can't go wrong with this unit.

An Amazing little sub for the price (and the Size!). I was happy to spend so little cash to put a sub in my boyfriend's Prius-C hatchback. This little guy fits charmingly under the front seat and produces considerable bass for such an adorable little fellow. However the inputs are a bit twitchy...the volume has to be nearly maxed out to kick the sub on, and at a reasonable volume with two people in the car, it will randomly drop in and out. Some songs/volumes will not activate the sub at all, even though the door speakers are vibrating in their enclosures. Overall I'm satisfied with it, but if you're not able to replace a modern car's overly-fancy head-unit to a unit with direct sub input, this sub's decision for when is a good time to be switched on leaves a lot to be desired. Also our first unit was defective. :( Crutchfield customer service was amazing (had a new one out that afternoon) but I don't think anything will make up for spending 4 hours face-down under the rear seat of a hatchback only to find you've installed a defective subwoofer.

Pros: Great sound, tiny adorable size, solid construction

Cons: "auto on" feature is twitchy at best

I have been looking at an Amp/Sub combo for a long time for my 2013 Ford Escape because I wanted some base added to the factory radio. It took me a while because I was skeptical that they would really give me any good base sound. I chose the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD to fit under one of my seats. Well... it did not fit under either seat... so I started looking elsewhere. I found a perfect spot in the spare tire compartment that had an indentation that seemed to be made for it. I hooked it up per the instructions using the high-level input (from the rear speakers) and the auto-on feature. When I tried it.. it seemed to work sometimes and sometimes not. After a couple calls to Tech Support (those guys know their stuff) I had to connect the "Remote On" terminal to the ignition. It works great now. Not a thumping base but a good addition to the factory radio.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

my recommendation is that you make sure you can fit this under your seat. i thought i would be able to but i had to install it in the trunk. for me, the bass was not nearly enough. also, this sub seems to have a little extra response somewhere around the 100-150 hertz range and the effect of that is that the bass drones a little bit when you have the volume up, which was annoying to me. in the trunk: i'd give this 3 stars. if you can put it under your seat, it's probably more of a 4 star product. it's not meant for crushing bass, but it will absolutely fill out the low end of your system and makes all music sound better.

Pros: very compact, easy to tune, fills out low end response for balanced sound.

Cons: Bass response was underwhelming. not loud enough from the trunk.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed to replace my Kenwood flat panel powered sub (it was a good sub, but the speaker just wore out). Wanting a slimmer profile, I googled "powered flat panel subwoofers" (8" & 10"). I read reviews. Read more reviews, checked out forums and you know what, there's something negative to say about them all. It's weeding through the thicket and understanding what I needed for my application (1978 Corvette). I picked up a 10" online (another brand), and never hooked it up (1/2-1" too tall for where I was mounting; vertically on the back cargo wall). So digging the reviews on the Sound Ordnance, I logged into my Crutchfield account and ordered the B-8PTD. It arrived quickly and was packaged to withstand any Jim Carey attempt to deliver a UPS package! I purchased a 8-gauge wiring kit (Crutchfield) and quickly went to town installing my new sub. Installed and ready to go, I pulled up AC/DC's Back in Black album for some classic rock testing. I'm going to be honest, I know better but I was expecting perfection out of the box. It sounded horrible! Just lack luster. But after hours, days and a week later I dialed that sub in for some awesome hard hitting base! (now to clarify, this is NOT a window shattering sub. If you want that, buy that type. But you will get good solid base that fills the void and if you do it right, feel it!). You need to adjust the EQ on your head unit, then the sub. Then back to the EQ, etc. Take your time and use a variety of music. You'll thank yourself!

Pros: Great Packaging. Quality build. Powerful.

Cons: More Power (just kidding). But more is always better right?

I installed this unit under my passenger seat of my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Install was straight forward after researching where to run the wires to reach the battery. I have this sub paired with an aftermarket head unit from Pioneer and aftermarket speakers. The best feature for me is the included wired remote. This makes it easy to change the level of bass depending on your music selection. This is also very handy if I have the top off the Jeep since I can increase the level quickly if needed, whether I am on an open road or need to bring it down through a neighborhood. At first I was hesitant if this powered sub could produce the sound I now desired, and I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this to anyone.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was surprised at the performance of this powered subwoofer. For my application, I installed it in the trunk of my Goldwing motorcycle. The Goldwing is known for not having a decent factory radio system. I have upgraded the receiver, the factory speakers in the dash and added aftermarket speakers in the rear arm rest. But, still lacked bass. Next, I added an amplifier to the four speakers and this powered subwoofer. Holy #!, the bass was far more then I expected! I have the powered sub turn down quite a bit to match the rest of the system. I have not tried any other subs in this configuration, but it seems to work well. I would recommend this powered sub to be considered. I cannot rate at 5 stars since I have only had the powered sub for a couple weeks.

Pros: Easy installation, came with wiring instructions, price seems fair, compact, remote adjustment for bass level.

Cons: I do not have a con at this time since I have not had the powered sub installed and in use for any length of time.

First, let me say that I have a profound hearing loss in the mid to high pitch range. Therefore I cannot really appreciate the subtle sounds of music. However I do have very good hearing aids and do appreciate good music. This subwoofer greatly enhanced my enjoyment of my stereo system in my Ramcharger, plus my friends who have excellent hearing tell me that it sounds GREAT!

Pros: Easy to install, really nice subwoofer in a small package.

Excellent Addition to Factory System

Can't beat it for the money. I have a Pioneer AVIC 5000NEX head unit playing through factory speakers and this subwoofer. Rounds out the bottom end nicely, and can hit decently well for its size when cranked up. Obviously no replacement for one or more 12" subwoofers, but for adding musical (not obnoxious) bass to a factory or mostly-factory audio system, this product is a win.

Pros: Price Size Decent sound for its size

Cons: Frequency response could go lower.

I got a new '15 Jeep Wrangler a few months ago and felt like it was lacking quite a bit in the bass department. I had an Infinity Basslink that I pulled from my previous vehicle - and even though it is a powered sub, it was still a bit bulky for my 2dr JK. I decided to try this B-8PTD since it was popular amongst the Jeepers, and installed it last night. It really does fill the Jeep nicely with lows. I have the stock headunit too, running off of a line out converter. Eventually I'll upgrade my head unit and it'll sound even better. I'm still trying to figure out the adjustments on the sub but it may take a little while to fine tune, just like any amp. Very satisfied!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I initially purchased one of these to replace another cheapo powered sub/box combo I bought online. After speaking with Crutchfield sales chat, I was reluctant to try another one, but gave it a shot anyway. This one fit perfect in the back corner of my 1994 BMW 540iT wagon behind the access panel. I wanted something hidden from view, but added some fill to my Infinity Kappas running off a JVC receiver. I have had this one for almost 3 years now with zero issues. I bought my wife a 2005 BMW X5 recently and it came with the stock lower end system without a factory sub. It sounded fine but was lacking bass. I went right back to Crutchfield and bought another one, mounted it in the exact same spot as my old 540iT and she is happy again. Happy wife, happy life. Just last week I purchased yet, another one of these and put it behind the rear seat of my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. Again, I like bass, but I hate advertising that I have subs in there. My truck previously had a box in there when I bought it which was removed by the previous owner. Another happy purchase! I would buy this assuming you aren't looking to rattle everything around you, but just to add nice fill without taking up any space. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a bit more out of their system.

Pros: Size! It packs a punch for how small its packaging is. It's been dead reliable going on 3 years now.

Cons: Isn't going to shake your organs loose by any means, it can't defy physics.

Exactly what I needed

Written by: James from Florida on July 5, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub sounds very good for its size and eliminates the need for a large enclosure and separate amp. It adds a good musical sounding low end to my system without taking up a lot of space. I installed it in my 2001 Dodge Dakota Club Cab and the sub fit perfectly in the space on the transmission tunnel between the back side of my center console and the front side of the tool tray under the back seat. The sub does not obstruct the movement of the front seats and does not interfere with the tool bag and socket set in a plastic case I carry in the rear floorboards behind my front seats. I used the supplied Velcro to keep the sub from sliding around but the fit is just snug enough to hold it in place. The sound quality really is very good; the sub added back the low end that has been missing from my system for a long time. It won't shake my mirrors or wake the neighbors but it does produce very musical and accurate sub bass. I have a Pioneer MVH-X370BT deck and used the sub RCA outputs to the amp which gives a lot better control over the sound of the sub than the supplied volume knob. This sub is an excellent value and will add some good low end without taking up a lot of space, just don't expect it to rattle your windows. I listen to mostly classic rock and the B-8PTD really does add some good punch to my sound quality. I wired it with 8 gauge power and ground wire and it runs very cool, the heat sink was just barely warm even after 45 minutes of testing. It's a very good sub!

Pros: Small size should fit most anywhere. Runs cool and has excellent low end for an 8" sub. No need for a giant enclosure or large amp taking up valuable space in a smaller interior. It restores a necessary element of excitement to the music. The sub is fairly heavy for its size and appears to be very well made.

Cons: The included volume knob did not really do much for my system. I tried it with and without the volume knob and got a lot better sound control and bass output by using the sub out RCA's on my deck.

Once again the sensible expert at Crutchfield led me into the best choice possible. Instead of the normal nonsense at the local store trying to sell me a million megawatt death sentence for my ears, my guy recommended exactly what I needed to fill the gap in my car's audio system. This sub is exactly the right amount of umph to make my car sound great at lower volumes and make the car shake if for some reason I need it. It complemented the focal brand component speakers I had installed prior by filling the bass gap. It also fit nicely under a seat and didn't rob me of precious cargo space. Thanks for Crutchfield for making such a great recommendation that did not threaten neither my budget or my future need for functioning ears.

Pros: great sound, easy install, fits under the seat to not rob storage and cargo space

Highly recommend this to anyone with a Jeep Wrangler. I use mine on the trails and keep tools and recovery gear behind the back seat. So a big sub box wasn't an option for me. Very easy install. Verified with the rep what cables I would need to connect this to my aftermarket head unit, and watched a few videos on youtube for the best way to route power from the battery. I appreciate the velcro mounting strips as an option. This isn't nearly powerful enough to need to be bolted down to the floor, so I appreciate not having to drill holes in the frame of my car. Bass is clean, frees up the in-door speakers to handle the mid and upper ranges. Made for a grownup. If you want trunk rattling boom, you should look elsewhere.

Pros: Fits under the seat of a 2010 WRX without interfering with seat travel.

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The performance of this powered subwoofer is only "so - so" in my 2015 Toyota Tundra. It only made a trivial improvement to the sound. I'm giving it 3 stars for a few reasons. The product advisor at Crutchfield really talked this item up as if I would expect significant sound improvement. The advisor also sold me a wiring kit for the install and I only used the power wire and the grounding wire. There were multiple other items in the kit that I didn't need for the install (but paid for). Lastly, tech support gave me the wrong color factory wires to hook up the speaker and it sounded terrible. I had to call back and a new advisor was able to trouble shoot and determine that the speaker was hooked up wrong.

Pros: Price

Cons: Trivial improvement to my factory sound. Sold me a wiring kit which included items not needed Tech support gave me the wrong color factory wires for the install

It's a solid powered sub that takes up minimal space. That being said i should have known an 8" compact sub wouldn't put out much power. Added to my factory Bose system using the high power inputs, I have to max out the bass of the radio, amp, and supplied bass knob to hear any difference over stock system. Definitely added a low range to my truck that was not there before but don't expect it to blow you away.

I bought this to install in a 2005 4runner. I wanted extra bass, but something my wife would not have to look at. I had hoped to install it under the seat, but doing so would limit seat motion, so I installed it in the back of the seat. It is not a big sub box, and it won't give you the same punch as large wooden box with 8" sub, but it is impressive for its size. I am thinking about putting another one in the other seat.

B-8PTD powered sub

Written by: PatK from Georgia on May 14, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to install in a 2010 Mitsubishi Evo which has basically no space for a sub - there is no room under the front seats, and the trunk is very small (the battery and wiper fluid reservoir are back there). I couldn't lose trunk space in this car. I was able to install it behind a plastic trim piece in the trunk that separates the battery/wiper reservoir from the trunk and rear seat. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that I could not use a low impedance input with the factory nav. unit and the high impedance input/power setup does not always turn 'on' as needed. If I can use the OEM head unit for a low impedance input, this will be perfect.

Pros: Size and ease of install

Cons: High impedance auto power 'on' system is not perfect.

Quick Fix- You should know better

Written by: MK from L.A, Ca on May 5, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I should have known that you're not going to get real bass out of a thin box. All instincts said "no" but it fit my space and was affordable without putting additional amp/ sub combo. What you get is additional bass to existing sound but it easily overwhelms the sound in back seat when it sounds decent in the front. The remote control is essential because volumes change between radio/ aux and you must adjust bass accordingly. Not sure of the low frequency range but it ain't much. Remember, you're amplifying all sound so if the bass is midway on your deck, you're amplifying that bass, it's not pre-amped so, to limit overwhelming the speaker you have to reduce the bass at your deck. Now your front speakers are getting no bass! I wouldn't recommend this unit unless you have few options.

Pros: Some "bass" for those with few options

Cons: Ignores the reality that you must have a cabinet with sufficient airspace to truly have bass

This is a powerful, nice sounding little sub for the money. I can directly compare it with the Kicker Hideaway because I owned that product before this one, and this sub has plenty of punch to keep up with most of the oem or low- to mid-range systems it will likely be paired with. The Kicker does produce tighter bass, which is better-sounding to my ear, but in sheer loudness and butt-shaking ability the B-8PTD performs admirably. It's just a little more "boom" than "thud" - but in my opinion, at half the price of the Hideaway the very slight advantage the Kicker has over the SO in sound quality is not even remotely worth the extra dollars.

Pros: Excellent bang for the buck. It's LOUD. Easy to install.

Cons: Little boomy for my taste.

Woke Up My 98 Jeep Wrangler

Jeeps are notoriously for being a brick on wheels with minimal space. This makes for some bad acoustics. I upgraded to 5.25" speakers in the front and 6.5" in the sound bar, but it still sounded hollow like a tin can. After reading various reviews on jeep forums, I went with this powered subwoofer. I picked it up on a scratch & dent sale. I also picked up a Rockford Fosgate 10ga wiring kit. The install took about 3 hours with wiring the amp to the battery and the amp to the head unit. I was going to mount it in the center console, but space wouldn't allow it. I mounted it dead center under the back seat, which makes for easy adjustment. The fine tuning bass controller was run to the center console to allow for changes depending on the song. I am very pleased with the sound this little package provides and how easy it was to do a professional install in my garage. If you're tired of the stock system in your jeep and don't want to give up the limited space available, this unit won't disappoint.

I got this for my 2006 Silverado CC HD. I put it under the rear seat and had plenty of room. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I am glad I did! It fills in the lows really nice. I was skeptical when I opened the box, it is very small. But, when I cranked it up, it sounded great. 30yrs ago I used to have a thumping system with 4 tens. I was not looking to reproduce that but my standards are pretty high for sound quality. The good news is that it doesn't sound boomy at all. I can have it cranked and outside my truck it sounds normal, not like some teenager mobile. The bass control knob is a nice touch- I use it to fine tune the bass. Overall, I am really happy that it sounds great and doesn't rumble the neighbors.

Pros: compact Easy to install

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in my 1991 Mazda Miata. Installed in trunk, installation was easy. Helped filling the sound out in the convertible. Was a very good addition to the sound system.

Pros: Small and easy to install.

Cons: Would not advise to use for deep hip-hop music.

Great Powered Sub!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to add some definition to my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I already have a Pioneer DEH-X8500BH Receiver. The factory speakers sound okay but the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD makes a some serious punch! Thanks Crutchfield for a great deal on a great powered sub!

Pros: Easy installation, takes up very little room.

Cons: none

Awesome Compact Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I added this subwoofer to my 2000 Corvette and it has exceeded my expectations! This compact unit did not compromise the limited cargo space of the car; it delivers clear and deep bass and it is a great addition to the stock Bose speaker system. Also the remote volume control is a great option to have, you have a quick and easy ability to adjust you sub's volume without having to fumble through your head unit's menus.

Pros: Compact and great sounding design, plus a remote volume controler

Cons: None noted.

I need a compact sub to fit my little C230 hatchback. This tucks in without hogging up all the trunk space. It took all the burden off the stock speakers in carry the lows, making them sound great. Adjustable nob to customize the bass level to listeners needs. Powerful and pleasant.

Pros: Compact, adjustable, powerful

Cons:

Puts out lots of sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Has zero low end bass. It's all upper like 80hz up. It is loud however. I have years of experience with mobile audio and this sub isn't as good as any factory sub I've ever heard, which is all I was going for. Better off with a real sub/amp combo

Pros: Small

Cons: Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Giving this 5 stars based on what it is. It's a very small and compact sub that fits under the rear seat of my crew cab truck. I hooked it to the factory Bose system with a line output converter and an amp kit. The positive reviews online really convinced me to try it. And I am not disappointed. This thing puts out a lot of sound for such a small package. Makes listening to music more enjoyable and the bass remote knob is also a nice touch.

Cons:

Awesome, much better than I need.

Incredibly clear and strong sub. Installed under my driver seat and it will shake my car. Not like duel 12's with a huge amp. This is perfect for rounding out a nice system for those not attempting to compensate for anything.

Pros: Clarity, ease of install, strength for size, compact.

Cons: None.

Absolutely Love it! 2013 GMC Sierra Extended Cab

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ive had several powered subs, in various vehicles over the years. All of them did pretty much the same job, filling out the missing bass from deck/speaker replacements. This one actually blew me away. I mounted it under the middle of the back seat. It's hidden enough and won't get in the way of anything. It can either fill in the missing voids or turn up the dial and this sub actually hits pretty hard! I was shocked! It's only been a week but so far, I'm very impressed. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking to add substance to their vehicle.

Pros: Unbelievable sound, remote knob, easy to install

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall good performance for the Unit. Once everything is properly adjusted.

Pros: Great improvement to factory stereo. For the money this unit provides good bass. Easy to install. Proper adjustment is worth the time. The remote turn-on works very well. Used an add on fuse holder to connect remote turn on. In my 2013 F-150 I used fuse location 41 in the passenger side kick plate.

Cons: The auto turn on does not work well with my factory stereo. Use the remote turn on!

Not what it's cracked up to be. Looks cool, seems like a good value, but sound quality just isn't there. Spend a little extra money and buy a good component sub and amp. Returned mine after 2 days.

Pros: Small and Compact, Amp and Sub all in One

Cons: Sound Quality

This product is amazing! I was going to purchase two for my Jeep Wrangler, but I would have ended up sending one back if I had done so. This product packs a powerful punch; if I'm sitting at a red light, I tend to turn it down to below 10, just so I don't upset the cars next to me. If you do purchase this product, make sure you purchase an amp kit along with it. Otherwise, I have absolutely no complaints.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exactly what I needed! I had mixed emotions ordering this sub but once I hooked it up and got it going I was full of smiles. And it fit perfectly behind the seat in my truck. It rattles my rear view mirror which is pretty exciting. It's only limited on the really low frequencies. But I mean really really low frequencies. Which accounted for maybe two songs in my collection.

Pros: Price!! Size! Ease of use!

Cons: Real low frequencies. But it's only an 8" sub so expecting more would be unrealistic so this doesn't count as a con.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this subwoofer for my single cab Chevy. I read quite a few reviews before I made my purchase and I couldn't be happier. The sub does shake my rear view mirror on some songs but for the most part it provides just the right amount of bass.

Pros: Great size fit behind my seat. Easy to wire up. The remote is awesome.

Cons: The self adhesive on the gain knob didn't work very long.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a week of adjusting to it, it sounded better than originally did at first installation. I was looking for more of a thump, deeper bass so unfortunately I had to replace it with a different sub. I listen to more electronic, rap, hip-hop so it wasn't for me. Though it did well for rock, country and less bass filled genres.

Pros: Fills the mid-low bass really well

Cons: Doesn't satisfy deep bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed a new receiver and speakers in '04 Jeep Wrangler 6 months ago. Had trouble getting decent sound UNTIL I installed this powered mini-sub. Now the whole system sounds amazing. Full, rich, loud and undistorted. Was originally planning on mounting the sub under the driver's seat or inside the center consul, but it was just slightly too big for either location. Ended up installing it in the rear cargo area. For such a compact unit, it's sound is huge and frees up the other speakers to do what they were designed to do in the mid and higher frequencies.

Pros: Great value, ease of installation, compact with BIG clear bass.

Cons:
