About the Sound Ordnance™ Bass Bunker

John Pollard
Sound Ordnance's rugged Bass Bunker enclosures come built to last and ready to help your sub deliver real low-frequency firepower. These unloaded boxes feature high-grade, medium-density fiberboard construction, with sealed inner braces that help combat resonance by reducing vibrations. Rounded outside corners and recessed panels allow them to fit into more vehicles, while tough black carpeting defends against incoming nicks and scratches. Bass Bunkers make a great solution when building your own box is not an option.

The BB10-64S sealed enclosure holds one 10" subwoofer and offers an internal volume of 0.69 cubic feet. Just add the right sub, amp, and wiring, then mount the enclosure securely, and you're ready to hit the road with some real bass artillery in your arsenal.

Warning: This enclosure does not include mounting hardware. If you're buying a sub from us, please check "What's in the Box?" to see if screws are included. If not, you should have an assortment of heavy-duty wood screws on hand for the installation.

Product Research

Features

Materials: The Sound Ordnance BB10-64S Bass Bunker is an unloaded, hatchback-style sealed enclosure for one 10" subwoofer. It is constructed of 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), covered in black carpet.

Internal Box Volume: The enclosure has 0.69 cubic feet of airspace.

Terminals: The BB10-64S is equipped with two pair of spring-post speaker terminals mounted in the rear panel, offering wiring flexibility when used with a dual voice coil woofer. The spring terminals will accept bare wire up to 10 gauge, pin connectors, and single banana plugs, but are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. Inside the enclosure the terminals have two attached 15" lengths of speaker wire for connecting the subwoofer.

Brackets: Brackets for securing the enclosure to your vehicle are recommended.

Q
Will this fit in the cargo area of a 2door jeep wrangler?
brandon  Apr 11, 2021

A
I have a 2017 Subaru Forester with not much cargo space & it fits perfect--doesn't take up much room. Best bet is to take measurements height/width/length of the box & height/width of your cargo area.

Q
Will a alpine type R-W10d2 fit in this?

A
Yes the Alpine will fit nicely. I have two of these boxes with JL Audio 10w3v3 and have really held up to the punishment. Well built box!

Just wanted to confirm that this box has 2 sets of inputs (for a DVC sub)?

Yes

Yes, it does have dual inputs. However, I recommend only using a single set of inputs and internally wiring the sub to match your desired impendance.

A
Yes it does

Q
Are these boxes as good as 3/4" MDF boxes. Also, are they air tight with a rubber gasket such as Alpine type-R or should you cut away the carpet to the MDF to seal?
brandon j  Oct 23, 2016

A
The box is a bit more "paper" like than regular MDF. Predrill the mounting holes or use screws no longer than 5/8" so you don't "blow out" the back side of the wood.
gurmel  Feb 19, 2019
A
Generally speaking, a thicker MDF enclosure will allow your subwoofer to produce cleaner, more accurate bass. However, comparing a 3/4" MDF and the 5/8" MDF used on the 10" Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker, I wouldn't expect a noticeable difference. Most subwoofers (including the 10" type R from Alpine) include a rubber gasket/trim ring to create a tighter seal when mounting into a box. If you'd like more detailed information about your installation, feel free to reach out to an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I hope that helps!

Q
Was wondering if the 9 1/4" cutout is suitable for a JL audio 10w6v3 ( I think they ask for 9" cutout ) Also what is that thing that looks like an aluminum pole in the image??? Will that get in the way of my w6v3?

Sorry. I took everything to an installer. He said JL Audio 10W3 fit in this box without any problems.

Travis, This enclosure will work for any 10" sub. It is setup for either 2ohm or 4 ohm speakers. In the case of the JL Audio sub you can actually run it in 8 ohms. The image you see shows the wiring which is pre-soldered in the terminals. That is what looks like the "pole". Hope this helps.

Sorry Travis. We haven't installed it yet. We got a Polk Audio 8" for the enclosure. It looks like a good product. It was recommended by the customer advisor.
frederick w  Jan 12, 2014

The "aluminum pole" is the internal wiring for the sub. I have a very similar sub and it fit nicely into the box.
jeremy  Jan 11, 2014

I put a new JL Audio 10w6v3 in here with no issues. There are two sets of pre-wired wire terminals, which is what you are seeing. There is not an aluminum pole it just looks like that in the pic. I personally cut out the second set of wires since I did not need them for this sub. The 10w6v3 comes pre-wired in parallel for a 2-ohm load and then you can connect to just one terminal. Hope that helps.
