Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ Bass Bunker

by Dominic Devito
Sound Ordnance

Why do I need an enclosure?

An enclosure is simply the box that houses your sub; sealed and ported enclosures are the most popular types. A sealed enclosure is usually smaller in size, sacrificing a little volume level to deliver more accurate bass. The ported enclosure features a vent which allows bass waves to escape from behind the mounted sub, augmenting the bass coming off the front of the sub. Ported boxes are louder, bigger, and a little less accurate. Every sub works best in the size and type of enclosure that's recommended by the manufacturer, so make sure you match your sub with the right box.

Sound Ordnance's rugged Bass Bunker enclosures come built to last and ready to help your sub deliver real low-frequency firepower. These unloaded boxes feature high-grade, medium-density fiberboard construction, with sealed inner braces that help combat resonance by reducing vibrations. Rounded outside corners and recessed panels allow them to fit into more vehicles, while tough black carpeting defends against incoming nicks and scratches. Bass Bunkers make a great solution when building your own box is not an option.

The BB15-150S sealed enclosure holds one 15" subwoofer and offers an internal volume of 1.57 cubic feet. Just add the right sub, amp, and wiring, then mount the enclosure securely, and you're ready to hit the road with some real bass artillery in your arsenal.

Warning: This enclosure does not include mounting hardware. If you're buying a sub from us, please check "What's in the Box?" to see if screws are included. If not, you should have an assortment of heavy-duty wood screws on hand for the installation.

Features

Materials: The Sound Ordnance BB15-150S Bass Bunker is an unloaded, hatchback-style sealed enclosure for one 15" subwoofer. It is constructed of 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), covered in black carpet.

Internal Box Volume: The enclosure has 1.57 cubic feet of airspace.

Terminals: The BB15-150S is equipped with a pair of spring-post speaker terminals mounted in the rear panel. The spring terminals will accept bare wire up to 10 gauge, pin connectors, and single banana plugs, but are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. Inside the enclosure the terminal has an attached 24" length of speaker wire for connecting the subwoofer.

Brackets: Brackets for securing the enclosure to your vehicle are recommended.

good but could have been better

Written By Anonymous, USA on Thursday, November 28, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was screwed/glued/stapled together well. But the air-tight sealing inside the the box was not. No sealant around the round plastic terminal housing. And there were 2 other spots I had to seal also. Not to mention (but I am) two more spots that were not sealed that I could not get to. Good job on the carpetting, but does make it a little difficult to mark where to drill for screw holes. Haven't listenned to it yet, but will update this review once I have. Installed in/on it is a S/O 15" with a S/O 2x175W amp. I just hope I got it air-tight enough.
Pros:
solid, good carpetting.
Cons:
could be sealed better, maybe use heavier gauge wire inside.

Great Space Saving Sub Box for 15" Sub

Written By Mojo, WI on Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this sub box for the Polk Audio Semi Shallow 15" Sub from Crutchfield. This box was the exact recommended inside sq footage for a sealed enclosure, and I am very happy with the space it saves, considering it is a 15" Subwoofer enclosure.
Pros:
Excellent build quality. Space saving 15" enclosure. Internal wiring ready for immediate sub hookup.
Cons:
Nono

Good box but nothing to compare it to

Written By Mike, Ohio on Sunday, February 03, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

well built box. This replaced my old S/O 10" ported box. This box is fine if you like a sealed box, I prefer a ported box myself. Unfortunately a 15: ported box was not offered or available from Crutchfield. All in all, no complaints for what it is.
Pros:
Well constructed and is rather aesthetic.
Cons:
My Alpine type S screw holes barely had enough room to attach to the box.
