Overview

Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ Bass Bunker

Sound Ordnance's rugged Bass Bunker enclosures come built to last and ready to help your sub deliver real low-frequency firepower. These unloaded boxes feature high-grade, medium-density fiberboard construction, with sealed inner braces that help combat resonance by reducing vibrations. Rounded outside corners and recessed panels allow them to fit into more vehicles, while tough black carpeting defends against incoming nicks and scratches. Bass Bunkers make a great solution when building your own box is not an option.

The BB8-60V ported enclosure holds one 8" subwoofer and offers an internal volume of 0.65 cubic feet. Just add the right sub, amp, and wiring, then mount the enclosure securely, and you're ready to hit the road with some real bass artillery in your arsenal.

Warning: This enclosure does not include mounting hardware. If you're buying a sub from us, please check "What's in the Box?" to see if screws are included. If not, you should have an assortment of heavy-duty wood screws on hand for the installation.

Its a nice little box sounds pretty good.

Exactly what I looking for

Anonymous from Ellicott City, MD on 6/7/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had purchased a 8w3 subwoofer and put it in my Jeep stock enclosure thinking this would add some nice bass to the stock speakers. That thought was a huge mistake and please, if you're thinking about doing the same don't! I figured I'd try a different enclosure to see what change there would be. Honestly I had little expectation, but after install the 8w3 in this box - WOW!!!! Huge difference, alas BASS! Perfectly sized for what it is, and would highly reccomend for a Jeep JKU subwoofer enclosure.

Pros: I personally like the tuning, seems to provide a nice range. The enclosure isn't terribly large for a ported enclosure, and the carpeting seems nice too.

Cons: It's an enclosure, so it takes up room. Not a lot, and you really have to expect this anyway. I realize it goes without saying, but I was less than thrilled to give up precious cargo space.

Kicker 10C84 and This Box

Brian from Saratoga Springs NY on 11/7/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The background. I have a 2014 Honda Civic SI Sedan. The stock sub is horrid. Bought some things to improve the situation. I'm running a Kicker CX300.1 amplifier with a Kicker 10C84 sub. I originally had the speaker mounted free-air in place of the stock. That was ok, but the sub overpowered the deck and was causing some vibrations that were driving me up the wall. So I went for a box. A lot of 8" boxes only have 0.5 cu ft or less, so this was perfect. The combination is solid.

Pros: Looks good. Doesn't have a huge foot print if you're trying to save space. Sounds amazing.

Cons: The wire running from the hookup in the box to the sub is a little small. I'll probably solder new heavier leads in there.

Port needs to be tuned lower

mike from Indiana on 8/3/2014

Port is tuned too high. 32 to 36hz would be much better. It's also too small so you get port noise. For most entry level consumers this will do fine, it puts out bass just don't expect it to be actual sound quality bass nor very accurate. It's tuned to 44hz which is more for SPL than quality, it's basically a cannon but a lot of people just want loud bass so they don't know the difference nor that SQ can be made to be loud as well.

Pros: Looks nice. Well built.

Cons: Ports too small. Not tuned low enough.

WOW!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Changed everything in my jeep wrangler.Completed my system by buying 8 inch sub.Put in polyfill but put it in factory enclosure that came with jeep.2 months later and just not happy knowing my bass should sound better went to looking for a new enclosure to put it in.I knew I had a powerful amp that should be making the bass pound in my chest. You choose what you like but I love ported enclosures.Within an hour of opening box I had my sub installed and in jeep.Wow!This is what I had been missing.I could not believe that the factory enclosure was depriving me of such bass.Yes a little larger but I don't care.My system is complete with this purchase.Great enclosure, well built and looks and sounds great.Very happy with buying this.

Pros: Loud bass.Well built enclosure. They say it's not as tight as sealed but I listen to all types of music and I have no complaints.

Cons: Not really a con for me but you do have to realize the ported box is a little larger than sealed.

For the price this is a great little enclosure

Great little box.

Great little box. Bought it for an Alpine ty r 8" and it blew my mind away. Sounds deeper, punchier and surprisingly musical for a ported box. I am very impressed. People cant believe its only an 8", which I've had before, but in this box there is a big difference.

Pros: Small, well built, looks great in my sonata 2.0t trunk rug, sound quality.

Cons: None so far.

Good for the price

Installed an 8" sub in the bass bunker enclosure. I'm not an expert, but this sounded great.. Nice thump and no distortion.. Great for the price.

Pros: Price and sound

Cons: None

great for my needs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed a Polk Audio 8 inch sub and an old Sony222 amp in this and was surprised to get so much sound out of such a small sub. Altogether the sound is very clean and loud enough to add base to a stock stereo. I have owned three sub boxes so far and this was as good as any for the price. My car stereo sounds great and it barely touched my wallet.

Pros: construction quality, the right size for my sub

Cons:

Great box!!!

Bass Bunker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only reason I'm giving this sub box a 4 star review is because I had to modify the existing speaker wires that come in the box with ones that were going to be able to handle the sub I used, other than that it's a great box for my Cruze, and delivers good sound through out the car when faces up against the side of the trunk, this was a great buy

Pros: Small size with great sound

Cons: Needed to modify existing speaker wire

Great little boX

TobeMac from Bronx, NY on 4/11/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an Alpine 8" Type R sub in this box. Before I received the box I had the Alpine placed in the rear back panel behind the rear seats. I wanted a little more boom out of this sub, so I ordered the Bass Bunker. It did exactly what I thought it would do, the bass became deeper and more boomy, but I still wanted more. Eventually I added 3/4 of a pound of Polyfill. This made the bass sound more acurate and slightly deeper, while reducing most of the distortion I would get if I cranked my sub all the way up. This is a great box for those that don't have much space or don't need a really strong boom like a bandpass box would give.

Pros: Nice sound, nice looking, compact design, looks well built, good price

Cons: Won't give you big bass like a bandpass box or a 12" speaker in a ported box would (obviously :-)

First of all - I like Crutchfield and have never disliked anything I bought from them until now. I had bought this for a Sundown Sa-8 8" Subwoofer. The internal volume is about right, the manufacturer recommends between .5 and .7 cubic feet after displacement - but the tuning of this box is 44 hz and the port area is VERY small. I would not recommend this box for any subwoofer. It is tuned too high and you get a LOT of port noise. If there were more port area, it wouldn't be the bad but as it is right now it is not enough. Build your own box instead. Save money and have fun doing it. I wish I didn't waste money on this.
