Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ P-57

by Buck Pomerantz
Sound Ordnance

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Win the battle for great sound. Sound Ordnance speakers invade your car's listening space with clear sonic reproduction that'll mobilize your music. You'll enjoy the new life these rugged speakers bring to your system, all at a budget-friendly price.

The P-57 5"x7" speakers sport tough polypropylene cones that can handle just about any musical barrage. Silk dome tweeters deploy the high frequencies smoothly and effectively, so you hear all the details in your tunes without harshness. The black powder-finished stamped steel frames tell you that these Sound Ordnance speakers mean business, while a 3-year warranty gives you peace of mind for the long haul.

Nice speakers for the $$

Written By HeavyD, Charlottesville on Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Speakers fit perfect. Packaged well. They're not expensive speakers, can't ask for much, but was pleasantly surprised by their sound quality. A nice alternative to pricier 'named brand' speakers.
Pros:
Cheap. Nice sound for the money.
Cons:
None really.

Great speakers. Huge difference between stock in my Ford E350. They are a little bright. Need some more break in time. Running them off a 3 year old Alpine receiver. For 30 bucks you just cant go wrong. Decent bass, and you really cant beat Crutchfield with all the installation instructions and wiring harness. That's why I have been a customer here for over 20 years. Thanks for a REALLY AFFORDABLE upgrade.
Pros:
Well made. Decent bass.

Great speaker at an evem greater price!

Written By Parker S., Arab, Alabama on Saturday, March 15, 2014

I really didn't know what to expect when I ordered these speakers. I read the mostly very positive reviews, saw the 3 year warranty, and then thought to myself that there is no way Crutchfield would let there name be related to a sub par product. I received them incredibly fast and the packaging was very good. Upon installation, I noticed immediately how crisp and clear the silk tweeter was. There is also relatively good mid bass. I used these to replace Memphis SR coaxials and the difference was night and day. You will not find a better performing speaker for this price, or with the peace of mind of a 3 year warranty. I would be willing to pay more for these. Dealing with Crutchfield is always a pleasure.
Pros:
-Well made -Very clear highs -Silk tweeter is not harsh sounding -Solid midbass -Price -3 year warranty
Cons:
None

Written By S.B., Cleveland, OH on Tuesday, March 11, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Expected more than they delivered after reading good feedback and hearing from Crutchfield that they are a good value upgrade. They sound MAYBE ever so slightly better than my stock speakers. Not worth the effort of taking them out, shipping them back and putting in replacements. I REALLY liked my Kickers bought earlier from Crutchfield. The Kickers were 3X the price of the PAR-57, but worth it.
Pros:
Crisp highs. Very inexpensive.
Cons:
Super heavy bass. Had to shift my bass output to completely flat to keep them from booming. Hardly worth my time for installation.

I have the Sony WX-GT90BT and needed something a bit better to keep up with it. I replaced all four door speakers with these. Definately a noticable difference, a little more thump. They fit right in the factory mounting location. As always Crutchfield directions for door panel removal was spot on and made install a breeze.

These are very good speakers. The price can't be beat. I would, knowing what I know now, spring for 3-ways but they still rock. Crutchfield provides free speaker to make adapters which is freaking awesome and makes install a breeze.
Pros:
Price, clarity, installation ease.
Cons:
For the price I can't think of any cons.

More than a bargain!

Written By Anonymous, Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, February 26, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So wanting to go through and redo a vehicles system is expensive, you know, I know it, even your mother knows it! When I ordered these speakers, I was skeptical because of the price, I was worried that I would be telling people "I got what I paid for!" Truth is I would be willing to spend more on these speakers now that I have put them in and listened to them! I have a 06 f150 Super crew that came with factory tweeters, the S/O tweeters put them to shame! I recommended Crutchfield, and the Sound Ordinance speakers to all my friends who are all in shock when I tell them the price!
Pros:
Durable, held up to me smashing together the wires. Price is excellent. Quality is through the roof! Materials are top notch!
Cons:
I feel like the connector board from the speaker to the harness they provide is a little flimsy, you have to be kinda careful when putting on the negative, if you push to hard, you will bend the metal that the board is laying on!

P-57 into a 1998 F150

Written By Brad C, Lawton/Ft. Sil, OK on Wednesday, January 08, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers came in a nice box from Sound Ordinance. The install was very simple with the instructions and install kit from Crutchfield. These speakers were installed in a 1998 F150 XLT. Sound from these speakers is a great improvement over stock, but if you are an audiophile you will be disappointed. You get what you pay for and just for a simple upgrade to stock speakers these are great. If you are looking to wind sound competitions these will not work for you.
Pros:
Ease of installation
Cons:
These do not exactly fit the stock speaker hole in a 1998 Ford F150. The stock hole is slightley larger. The cushion ring that comes with these speakers that is to fit between the truck and the speaker falls into the hole.

Great set of speakers

Written By Ryan H, Ojai, CA on Thursday, January 02, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An audiophile by background, who's scratch built tri-amped home audio speakers, I've been disappointed with every car audio speaker I've tried before these (JBL, Polk, Boss, and others) They were all atrocious sounding for one reason or another, generally (shrill sounding) peaky response in the 2-4khz range leading to listener fatigue at higher volumes (where I like to listen).

There was a set of Sound Ordnance speakers already installed in my wifes car when she got it, I googled them and was a bit skeptical of them by the price and other peoples comments and speculation. However, after listening to them a bit, I liked them so much I bought a set to replace the JBL "power series" speakers I had in my car. They are great sounding speakers, and cheap too!

I'd highly recommend these, as they outperform other car audio speakers costing many times more.
Pros:
These are great sounding speakers, excellent bass response, and reasonably smooth sound. They sound great turned up. They also have a cross over (6db/octave on the woofer with a choke, 6db/octave tweeter with a capacitor). Not many speakers in this price range with a low pass on the woofer. This is part of the reason they sound great.
Cons:
No cons really, except that they are made in China (like everything else)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Last week I was looking for speakers. Forgot that Crutchfield carried auto gear...shame on me! Could not find any site that could tell me what fit my '13 F-150. Crutchfield did ...and some! Prompt delivery and easy installation. Sound is much better than the Ford of China. paper diaphragm, so called speakers that came with this not so inexpensive truck. There was a price change shortly after arrival..10 dollars to my credit. .Crutchfield honored the change enthusiastically!
Pros:
Ease of installation per instructions. No surprises. Wife and I had both installed in 4- ish minutes.
Cons:
I have yet to notice any cons!

They are not REAL!!!

Written By Real Guy, Rockville, MD on Thursday, February 21, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read a lot of reviews regarding these speakers and decided to purchase them because most reviews were good. I already had some other speakers in the front of my car by another manufacturer that I was happy with but I decided to try these out for the rear doors because the price was the same. Well they didn't come close to meeting my standards. I listen to all kinds of music and these speakers began to hiss due to the bass associated with metal, so you could imagine what rap would do. If you like rich tones without buzzing or hissing I would not recommend these speakers.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Not good for any music with rich bass tones especially low bass

2012 F-150

Written By Andrew, Maryland on Thursday, January 24, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When they say 1 day shipping, they mean 1 day. I do not touch electronics because I'm afraid of messing up a project. After seeing that a different electronics retailer would charge $160 just to install 4 speakers I looked at Crutchfield and decided to try it out. If you follow the directions this is a pretty easy task. I did all four speakers in my truck in 1.5 hours. It would have taken less time if I didn't break my socket wrench. I highly recommend these speakers as a replacement to the "made in china" factory speakers. If you want bass you will need a sub but other than that they sound great. Take the panel off, plug and play. Simple as that. Also buy the 3 piece door panel tool set. well worth the money. I still cannot believe my factory speakers has a Ford symbol on them and made in china underneath.
Pros:
Great upgrade for the money. Easy to install.
Cons:
None.

Great speakers for a even better price!

Written By LC, Northern California on Sunday, January 20, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these 2 sets of these speakers for my mom for Christmas. The sound quality of these speakers if far superior to the stock 06 ford escape junkers. its only been a month or so since they were installed, so far so good! Crutchfield is the only place i buy any audio components from which is credited to their excellent customer service and return policy. I have purchased plenty of sound ordnance products from amps to speakers, they are well built for the price point and have yet to disappoint! I plan to continue to purchase high quality products for years to come!
Pros:
good mids and highs, price, mastersheet, customer service, 3 year warranty!
Cons:
none so far!

2010 Ford F 150 Supecrew front speakers

Written By Pat, Elk Grove,CA on Saturday, January 19, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Received these as a Christmas Gift to replace the fronts stock speakers in my truck. I studied the directions and then searched "2010 Ford F 150 door panel removal" and found a great video on how to do this. Highly recommend getting a plastic door panel removal kit so you don't scratch the surrounding plastic when removing the power panels and screw fascia plates behind the door pulls and hand pulls. I made a hook out of a wire coat hanger to remove the plate behind the door handle - worked great!. Installation of the speakers from this point is a breeze. After checking the speakers , I replaced everything and went for a drive to listen. BIG diffidence! Much cleaner highs and it sounds like a new system. For the $$s spent on the speakers ( with the free adapters for the speaker wires and these were a gift to boot ) I will be replacing the rears very soon. Very pleased with these speakers . For a straight switchout with no other upgrades I recommend these speakers very much.
Pros:
Clean sounding, easy installation
Cons:
none

BIG sound at a little price...

Written By MTanguay, Port Orange, FL on Friday, January 11, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got the HD Radio JVC head unit for as a gift and installed in my 2001 Miata with factory speaker to learn how bad the factory speaker really were... 10 minutes later I was on Crutchfield.com looking at speakers. Ordered these speakers and arrived a few days later. These units were very inexpensive so my expectations were not too high. WOW - these speakers blew me away. Great sound through the mid, good highs, and very good bass. The install instructions were dead on (door panel removal) and the included adapter made install a breeze in about 10 minute cause the door panels were already removed (using Miata information sheet from the JVC Head install).
Pros:
PRICE, install is a snap, Crutchfield support, perfect 2-way speaker
Cons:
Bass does not go as low as a sub-woofer, but it i s not designed for that (might get sub later)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

'I bought four of these to go in a '91 explorer to go with a new Alpine CDE-124SXM2. Installed easy into the doors of the four door Ford. The wire harness was easy to go with the Ford harness but a bit tight on the male contacts on the speakers. I had to use a little grease to get them on. Sound is very nice and bass response is pretty solid. They will buzz if you get too crazy with the volume (alpine has 50 peak watts)
Pros:
Easy install. Good sound. Deep bass.
Cons:
None as of yet.

Great speakers for the price!

Written By SeanE, St. Clair Shores, MI on Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Installed these in the rear deck of a 1987 Plymouth Gran Fury/Salon with stock amp/radio, the install should be similar to other M-body Chrysler cars of that period. Installation was mostly painless, the speakers fit in the stock speaker holes and screwed in using the same holes. The only issue is that they stick out more than the stock speakers and they prevent my rear deck cover from being put back on correctly. I have cut holes in the cover and I may put an aftermarket grille over the speakers or make a whole new deck cover from scratch. This is a cosmetic issue, but is something good to know for others with similar vehicles. However, the sound quality is greatly improved, the bass is deeper and the highs are much crisper than the stock speakers. These speakers really are incredible for the price. I will recommend them to anyone looking to improve their car audio quality on a budget.
Pros:
Improved sound quality, bass, and treble. Easy installation.
Cons:
May interfere with 1980's M-body Chrysler rear deck covers.

Very Nice Upgrade Speakers !

Written By Dave, Ravenna, Ohio on Monday, September 10, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking for speaker upgrades since one of the Ford Focus OE speakers started "buzzing". "Chad" was very knowledgeable / helpful with recommendations and answering all of my questions.

Just installed the speakers this weekend. Good instruction sheets from CF about how to remove the door panels / parts and OE speakers. Took about 30 minutes to complete the first speaker. After that about 10 minutes each for the remaing 3 speakers. They were easy to install into the doors; no modifications needed. The speaker wires supplied by CF were an exact match / fit to the OE wires. Everything worked on the first try.

Improved sound from the P57's; clearer / higher highs, better / lower bass. And can play much louder without distortion ! Very nice upgrade and at a resonable cost / should have changed the OE speakers a long time ago !
Pros:
See review
Cons:
None

Great upgrade over stock

Written By Matt, Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, August 07, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in my 2012 F150 to replace the stock standard front door speakers that come with the XLT model. The Sound Ordnance speakers are a huge upgrade over stock, and can handle much louder music without distortion. They put out slightly better bass, but the real improvement is with the overall sound. Highs and mids are much much clearer and can handle more than the 50% volume limit of the stock speakers. I will be ordering another set for the rear doors shortly. Very impressed with these speakers considering their cost.
Pros:
Very clear, no distortion at high volume, better base and sound clarity
Cons:
none

Great speakers for the back of my F150

Written By R. Lloyd Nashville TN, Nashville, TN on Tuesday, July 03, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in the back of my 2004 F150 super cab. Crutchfield's installation kit and directions made the install a piece of cake. Entire door panel has to be removed to install, yet I finished in about 1/2 an hour (both speakers, doors reassembled and tools put away). They sound great! Very even across the audio spectrum. Plenty of bass. Especially excellent at the price!
Pros:
Inexpensive. Easy install. Great Sound.
Cons:

Impressive sound for the price

Written By AntS, Morrow, GA on Wednesday, May 30, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I debated on giving this 4 or 5 stars and I chose 5 due to the price. The sound is great even with a stock head unit. I just put these in the doors of my F150 and couldn't be happier. The sound is great. I chose these speakers for two reasons. First, obviously the price is hard to beat. Second, I purchased a Sound Ordnance amplifier a few years ago to power a 10" sub in my previous car. I was skeptical at first but the Crutchfield adviser told me it was a good product and I took a chance on it, he was right and it was a great amp. Knowing that Sound Ordnance produces a good product I didn't think twice about purchasing these speakers. If you're looking for an upgrade to your factory system but don't want to drop a large amount of money, I highly recommend these speakers.
Pros:
Great sound, good bass and highs.
Cons:
None so far.

Perfect Fit. I installed them into my 94 Taurus. They fit like OEM took me 15 min for the pair to instal. Sound was fine and as expected. I am useing only the factory head unit with no amp. Basicly all stock. The sound was better than the stock speakers.
Pros:
Easy install
Cons:
I had to do it. Just kidding. No Cons.....

Got these as a cheap replacement for the stock speakers that dry rotted in my 97 Ford Econoline. I have to admit that for the price I expected the stock style replacement speakers you would usually get through your local mega-store or mail order. What I got was much better! For the price, you can't beat these speakers to replace your old stock units.

Great Deal!

Written By Austin, Illinois on Thursday, May 03, 2012

Sound really good, added enough bass to shake my mirrors :) Hits good highs. I only had one issue, when mounting to my 2000 Ford ranger, the mounts on the speaker did not match up with the holes for the grille. So I had to file the mounting to have screws line up. But these are great for the price, I couldnt ask for more.
Pros:
Bass, Highs, Increase in sound, cheap, clear sound
Cons:
Had to file mounts, pretty sure tweeter hits my grille :/

Great sound for the price! Much cleaner sound than factory speakers. 2000 Ford Ranger w/o amp and below average after-market stereo. Will be considering a small 4 channel amp in the future
Pros:
Price. Mid-highs. Fitment.
Cons:
Bass is still lacking somewhat, but for the price and size it is still very good.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 sets of these to replace my stock 2000 Ford Taurus speakers, as replacement speakers they are a bit of an upgrade but after adding an amp to get a little more power I learned it added little improvement. They have very little bass response and the tweeters are way to bright. I wound up taking them out and putting them in my boat and replacing them with Pioneer 5x7 3 ways which sound much better. I would say if you need replacement speakers don't buy these, spend 20.00 more and get the Pioneers or Kenwood brand.

I was very satisfied with the p-57 5x7 speakers I installed in my f150 crewab. I used infinity reference speakers in the past and I always thought they sounded to bright during high volume. After talking with the crutchfield tech he assured me these speakers would sound better at high volume. He was right.

Very satisfied withe the P-57 5x7 speakers I installed all 4 of them in our 1994
Ranger. Very simple to install with the factory quick connect wiring harness that
was included. The sound is very clean and clear even with the factory radio
that came with the truck. I had forgotton how good the radio sounded. For the
budget price they are a good value.

Good speakers for price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sounding speakers for great price. Installed these to replace factory rear door
speakers in a 2000 Ford Explorer. They are a nice improvement. Thought I would save
some dough by going with Crutchfield's inhouse brand and I am not disappointed.
Would have given a 5* rating but speaker design limits application in all 5X7
locations...i.e. I couldn't install these in the front doors due to space requirements.

Good budget speaker

Written By Mtnstyne, Kansas on Saturday, February 26, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace the door speakers on my 2002 Ford Ranger. They line up perfectly and easily, the free wire adapters that come from Crutchfield work as they should and are $15 locally so in total it was a great investment. Replacement took all of about 20 minutes for both doors.

The only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is that I am sure there are better speakers, but for the price you can't go wrong in my opinion.

Bought these for the rear deck of my sons vehicle. He is 17 and we have built a
nice system in his car using Sound Ordinance gear. For the $ - am very happy.
The sound is very good. He also has 5 1/4 component S/O in front doors and 2 -12
inch Rockford subs driven by SO mono amp in a S/O bass bunker. We are very happy
with the gear and sound. He thinks Crutchfield should send him a big S/O sticker
or sponsor more S/O gear in his vehicle since we went out and put as much S/O
gear in his vehicle.

These speakers deliver

Written By DaveK, Chicago, IL on Thursday, October 07, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought a Pioneer receiver for my 2001 Focus and realized immediately that I should have bought new speakers to replace the paper cone factory speakers. The car- specific selector on the Crutchfield site pulled these babies up and I had a hunch from the beginning that they would rock. I was not disappointed.

Once I was able to get the panels off the doors and rear seat, the new speakers fit like a glove. The included car-specific wiring harness meant no solder connections, no possibility of reversed polarity (so no phase cancellation). I put the panels back on, turned on my stereo... and WOW! Punch, clarity, great sound. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone who paid less than $200 for a new receiver. You will not regret it!

Great speaker . . . . great value

Written By John, St. Clair, MI on Wednesday, August 04, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an '06 Ford Focus ZX3 with an aftermarket JVC stereo and installed Polk Audio db571's front and rear. One of the 4 blew out (why I don't know), I replaced the front pair with these Sound Ordnance P57's. I really like my music and I think these P57's sound as good as the Polk's at half the cost. If you are like me and are not running a higher power amp and only have a stereo upgrade or factory stereo . . . . these are great sounding speakers you WILL NOT be disappointed, especially Ford owners with the 5x7's.

Crutchfield comes thru again!!! First, I ordered Pioneer 5 1/4" speakers and was not happy with them. With Crutchfield, returns are not a problem, they want you to be a happy customer. I will never, never buy from a box store or a car audio store again. With the installation kits, instructions and harnesses that are included with a Crutchfield order you can do it yourself and save $$$$.

Better than stock!!!

Written By kev, Beaufort, SC on Tuesday, June 22, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two sets of the P-57's for my 2003 Ford Escape. After replacing the factory head unit, I found that the factory speakers weren't up to the task of handling the extra power. I was looking for the best bang for my buck. The P-57's so far seem to fit the bill. I can now hear the highs and mids that the factory speakers couldn't reproduce. Definately a good deal.

On another note, Crutchfield has once again proven themselves as the place to go for car audio. Quality products, good prices, and quick delivery are Crutchfield standards. Also the FREE wire adapters and FREE installation instructions make the install process smooth as silk. It took me longer to adjust my head unit than it did to install all 4 speakers!!
