Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound for the price. Replaced some old infinity speakers (16yrs old) that had dry rotted. I did NOT use the tweeters, nor the crossovers. There was a little work getting them in place, but without the kits provided from Crutchfield, it would have been a lot more work.

Great sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are great. I had stock tweeters in the front and these sound a lot better. The woofer hits great and I know it will sound much better once I install a 4 channel amp. I love the multiple options you have to mount the tweeter with and chose to do the flush mount in the rest to give it more of a cleaner/stock look. This set up performs just like an expensive set of components or better! Great purchase at an amazing price!

Pros: The sound is crisp and clear. Ease of installation since it comes with everything, and the price for these can't be beat!!

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my sons' truck expecting a sub par product at this price point. Anything would be better than the stock whizzer cones, but these did not fail to impress! The crossover was open on all sides (the only place I could see an improvement being made, as it's susceptible to moisture), but well marked and easy to install. I put these in the rear doors of a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500. I had to fab a mount, but ended up just cutting the old speaker out of its' base plate and screwing the Sound Ordnance to the stock base plate. Cut a hole in the door panel to flush mount the tweeter, and instant great sound! The bass response from the dedicated woofer in all four doors was similar to my punch 10" with an amp in my Dodge Ram. The range of sound you get from this component system is what I would expect from a much higher priced setup. This was a good buy!

Pros: Ease of installation, comes with all wiring and setups for multiple tweeter installations (flush/semi-flush/surface). Sound is comparable to much higher priced setups. Well thought out design and quality construction.

Cons: The only con I could come up with is it would be nice to put a large double sticky foam piece or velcro to mount the crossover. This is not an option - it has to be mounted. So some kind of mounting in the package would be nice.

Well they sound great but they sound what i call is "tinny" an i did adjust them but i can also hear more in songs that were not clear before, an that's a good thing, i also have theses hooked up to a 800 Watt 4 ch Pioneer amp with the rite match up at 60 RMS.

Pros: Better then stock an great for the money.i can live with these.

Cons: the tweeters sound tinny.

Gteat speakers

Written By Eric B., Pearland, Texas on Tuesday, June 09, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in a 2007 crew can Colorado in the front doors with the stock head unit. For now. The installation was kind of tricky, but I made it work. The bracket kits that were sent were useless. None of the hole lines up on the speaker and you can't mount the speaker directly to the door because the mounting holes are right on the edge of the speaker hole in the door. So I used the speaker ring that came with the speakers and made makes at the edge of the hole in the door. Then I took some tin snips and cut Vs so the screws would pass through. I then took the screw clips from the bracket kits and attached them to the door over the Vs. Then used the screws in the kits to attach. I also used the speaker ring without the screen. I finished it off with some rubber foam around the edge like the stock speakers. The crossover I used double sided sticky tape and mounted them inside the doors forward of the window. Just make sure you operate the window so you don't catch a wire. Cut out the center where the stock tweeter is and insert the new housing ring. Leave the stock ring because the new one doesn't cover the tab holes. There are no instructions for all of this so good luck. I hope this helps the next person with the same vehicle.

Pros: Great speakers for the price. Like others have said they are very bright.

Cons: Very bright. No instructions to install in specific vehicles. Only supplied with how to take the radio out and doorpanels off. That is the easy part.

Good speakers, poor instructions

Written By Jay, Washington on Sunday, May 17, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The main speakers themselves are nice and sound good. The tweeters were not installed as the crossover is so large I couldn't find a space inside the door to mount it. A pigtail was provided to connect the factory wiring to the speaker itself, but not the crossover, so I would have had to cut up the harness provided to avoid the need of cutting the factory wiring... The instructions provided zero information regarding the wiring for the crossovers/tweeters or the numerous parts and pieces that appeared to be to install the tweeters at various angles. So far, only the woofers are installed, but they doo sound great, especially for the price.

Pros: Good price, good sound

Cons: Very poor instructions, no information whatsoever related to assembly of the multiple possible mounting pieces for the tweeters.

Great speakers and warranty. Cost effective. Highs are crisp and mids flow well. The only thing negative are the size of the crossovers. Didnt have the room in my doors to fit them but easily put them under the indash in center console. But thast just knitpicking.

Pros: Cost Sound Overall quality

Cons: Just the size of the crossovers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace my factory speakers in my 07 Kia Optima and they sound great! A HUGE improvement from my oem speakers... I have my crossovers set on -3 dB and the highs are very loud, clean, and crisp. People complain about the crossovers being too big but they're fine. The only reason I gave them 4/5 stars is because installation was such a hassle. I had to make a few modifications, wires weren't long enough, and there were no instructions. But sound ordnance is definitely good quality and I'm very happy:)

Pros: Clean and crisp highs Overall sound Looks

Cons: Installation suuucckkksssss (for me at least)

Bought these speakers to replace my junky paper oem ones. I didn't want to spent a fortune so after reading the reviews and seeing that crutchfield backs them with a 3yr warranty decided to get them. Installation was not bad at all, they sound pretty good the tweeters and clear and crisp still have to fine tune them but over all I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Pros: Price, good sound, 3yr warranty

Cons: None so far

Crystal Highs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clear and powerful sound for such a cheap system. The tweeters are amazing, I did actually use the -3db switch because the were over powering everything else. The mids are good, but should probably be in an encloser for the fullest sound.

Pros: Loud and clear highs at a cheap price.

Cons: Woofers really sound better in an encloser, not very strong just free air in a door.

Exact tweeter fit

Written By George P, Ohio on Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Tweeter's diameter, when mounted in its plastic housing, is an EXACT fit for the stock tweeter location in the door of a 2005 outback. No modification of bracket was necessary. Enough room in door directly below tweeter to mount crossover with no clearance issues. For the woofers, I removed stock speaker and mounting plate, then drilled 3 holes to install Metra adapter bracket (included for free) and plugged in wiring harness adapter (included for free). Speakers fit perfectly, no clearance issues whatsoever. Great, cheap upgrade.

Pros: Price Installation instructions Free mounting bracket Free wiring harness Great sound

Cons: Crossover unnecessarily large

Pros: Sound quality. Ease of install.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to fit in my 1999 Silverado. Woofers fit great with bracket, but needed to use a dremel to make tweeters fit in factory holes. Tweeters are a little high pitch but I'm sure it can be adjusted with my stereo, haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Speakers came with no directions whatsoever. Didn't know where to put the crossovers, so I just laid them in the door panel. They sound good enough that my son now wants a set for his truck so I told him to get a job and he can have a pair.

Pros: Great sound, hold bass well, good price.

Cons: No installation instruction at all. Tweeters are a little sharp

Great Value Component Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed a set of 6.5" woofers into my '09 Scion TC when I learned that a previous owner had removed the factory tweeters. This component system sounds excellent. The tweeters produce nice clear highs, and the woofers are rich with the mids even with the factory head unit. The installation was for the most part simple. One obstacle was I do not own a narrow enough screw driver to fit through the front of the crossover cover to tighten the connections. Luckily, the front cover has four simply place screws to allow removal of the cover, which was necessary anyways to screw mount the crossovers to the doors. Also, I too as another reviewer has said could not find an alignment for the holes in the provided mounting brackets. After trying multiple positions, I drilled my own holes in the bracket, and it worked fine. I highly recommend these for their great price value and sound quality.

Pros: Excellent sound quality; Great price

Cons: Minor annoyance with the provided mounting brackets

Nice set up used these before but this time I have to agree with another poster that the 6.5 woofer falls a little short on bass punch, probably could be wiring within truck, probably will add an amp in future just for front speakers

Pros: Great fit, love the aesthetics or look of Sound Ordinance products

Cons: More bass, but like I said could be my wiring

Installed in 2011 wrangler jku to replace stock speakers in the front. Sound is 10x better than before on stock head unit. Just be warned when installing the tweeters in the dash pods with flush mounts, i had to shave away just a small ammount of the pod for the tweeter to seat correctly. After install it looks clean and proffessional. I would deffinately buy these again

Pros: Price and sound quality for price range

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Am quite pleased with this component system. Although, installation was quite arduous. Installed in the front end of an '02 Dakota Quad Cab. Most everything provided was unusable. After installing had to tear down again and make some minor modifications in order to put the door panels back on. The placement of the tweeters was quite simple although the location of the crossovers I was not pleased with. But, hey for the price of this component system, I won't complain. This system is connected to a 2 year old Kenwood Excelon receiver. After going into audio functions and retuning the components, I am very pleased with the result. Time to upgrade the rear of the cab.

Pros: Sound Quality, build, reputation

Cons: Installation

Great tweeters, woofers are ok, great sound, distortion seems to come on a little early though, they mounted fairly easily, love the hookups and connections, and the mounting options are great for the tweeters, woofers sound great, I'm amazed by the sound of these speakers, I was listening to one of my favorite songs I can hear musical notes, breaths, I even heard instruments that I've never noticed in the song before, overall great speakers, and couldn't beat them for the price

I was extremely surprised at how well these speakers sound. 2 tweeters, 2 crossovers, and 2 mini subs all for $50! Get the 6x9's to go with them. I put these in my wife's 2012 Nissan Frontier Crew cab, I hadn't even hooked up the new head unit yet. These things sound great with just the factory stereo, even my wife was impressed. What is even more impressive is that they are only rated up to 50 watts each and you don't need an amp with them. I only ran the crossover through the tweeters and it was crystal clear.

Pros: Quality, Sound, Price, Fast shipping

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

5 star rating based on sound and pricing. definitely not super high end sound, but I was pleasantly surprised how great they sounded in my 05 accord sedan. installation was a little difficult but having done other car stereo applications in my previous vehicles helped. the hardest part was finding a location for the crossover and the installation of the speaker mount in my accord front door. all in all, i am very pleased with my purchase, and have and always will look to crutchfield for my future car and home stereo purchases. also, great customer service and prompt response when I inquires where the master installation guide was. apparently it gets emailed to you now and no included in the box like how it used to be. no biggie, but could be a little hard if someone doesnt have access to a printer.

Pros: great sound great value smooth tweeters not harsh -3db option for tweeter

Cons: huge crossover instructions a little vague but doable if you know a little about cars and car stereo installations

These sound great. A huge improvement over the factory speakers. 2009 Hyundai Elantra. The factory tweeters did not want to come out, so I drilled holes in the plastic door panel for the flush mount tweeter and it worked great, looks sharp. I will be adding a small amp next week, but they sound great with just the factory head unit. If I would have known how well they worked, I would have purchased them for the back also. Instead I got two way MTX 6 1/2" for the back and they are good, but not as good as the sound ordinance. Having the tweeter higher is better.

Pros: Sound great. Really improved the mid and upper ranges. Bass is improved, but to a less degree.

Cons: Brackets that came with them were worthless. There was no way to attach the speaker to the bracket. I cut out the factory speaker and used its bracket. Front door location.

Installed these in my sister's 2012 Corolla. They sound nice and were a good replacement for the factory setup. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed these today, and listened to them briefly. This is my first set of components. I have had aftermarket sound in almost every vehicle I have ever owned (I am 38 years old). With just a brief listen, these speakers are amazing. Loud, clear, and with great separation. I have Rockford-Fosgate 6x9s in the back, and the Sound Ordnances sound way better. I do not think you can beat them for the price. I mounted the tweeter on the bracket with the woofer because I plan to take them out when I sell the car, and I don't want holes in the door. The surface mount brackets are very tall, and bulged out the factory grille very slightly, but since the speakers have their own grilles there is no distortion that I can tell. I am almost scared to change my factory deck (although I probably will) because these things sound so good I don't want to mess with success.

Pros: Great sound. Great volume. Very clear.

Cons: Tweeter surface mounts are very obtrusive.

This is a pretty nice set. I have mine powered by a SO 2-channel amp using the high pass filter. Had to work with the tweeters a bit so they would fit in the factory opening but Crutchfield warned me that it was a modified fit. I also have the rear door speakers (which are also SO) powered by the same amp and everything sounds great. I've put a lot if systems together over the years and the So set-up is just as good as most that I've come across. Even some of the pricy set-ups .

Pros: Good price for excellent sound

Cons: One of the crossovers was faulty but Crutchfield excellent customer service made it painless. Replacing it the next day at no cost

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers seem to get a lot of positive reviews. In my opinion they are just ok. Barely. Bass is almost non existent and the mid range levels are not as good as my stock speakers were. The highs are crisp though. The crossovers are huge but I knew this before I purchased because of consumer reviews. Installed in my 05 Tahoe. They do sound a little better than the stock speakers but not as much as I thought they would.

Pros: Crisp highs.

Cons: Bass is almost none existent and mid range levels are poor. Loose a lot of musical detail compared to other speakers. Huge crossover.

Carolla has bounce now

Written By Jeff W, Knoxville TN on Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 04 Carolla that I was looking to upgrade the sound of. I told the Crutchfield advisor what I was looking for and they suggested the Sound Ordnance P65c and the P69's. I was a little apprehensive because of the price, I thought they would not sound as good as what I was looking for. Since Crutchfield has such a good reputation for customer satisfaction , I thought I will give them a try and if I was not happy would send them back and get something else. I received the speakers in 3 days, pretty impressive, With the information Crutchfield sent on how to remove panels and trim on car to install the speakers combined with the free wiring harnesses it only took me about 3 hrs to install both sets of speakers. Then for the moment of truth, all I can say is WOW!! what a difference. Even with a stock head unit these speakers sounded great. I was worried about the bass, however at half volume they will render review mirrors completely useless because they are shaking too much to use. They are not like a sub by any means but that's not the sound I was looking for. I just wanted a great sounding radio that I could crank up and rock a little when a favorite came on, I have had them in the car for over 3 months now and they have performed perfectly, As good as they sound now I think they will sound even better after I get a new head-unit that will push them to what they can really do. I have really been impressed with Sound Ordnance, what a great deal!!

Pros: Great sound at a great price. Easy to install.

Cons: The crossovers are a little on the large side, you have to pay close attention to where you put them. However, if they fit in my Carolla they should fit in anything.

P65c great setup for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of my 87 VW Syncro camper. I had to modify the front panels but that was expected and I had ordered custom ones just for this. I kept my existing JVC deck since it has satellite and no amp. Speakers sound amazing, the bass rattles the front doors but the highs are high and lows are low . Crossovers are a little big but found mounting spots in the doors for both.

Pros: Price Sound Quality

Cons: Crossovers are large

2011 Jeep Wrangler 2 dr

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these Sound Ordnance P-65C speakers in the front dash and rear sound bar of my 2011 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. Install was time consuming but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I used the speaker brackets provided by Crutchfield to mount the front woofers. Plugable wiring also used there and both worked great. Tweeters mounted perfectly in stock pods at top of dash using the "surface mount" collar provided with the speakers. For the rear sound bar, I did not use the Crutchfield supplied bracket because the speaker and frame fit perfectly into the grille in the sound bar. I used a hole saw to flush mount the tweeters in sound bar giving a nice clean look. Crossovers fit easily up in the sound bar too. I stuffed the sound bar (and the front speaker enclosures) with stuffing from the sewing section of Walmart helping tighten up the bass a bit. Each time I completed a speaker I compared the sound (stock speaker to new) using the balance and fader to switch back and forth. Huge improvement! Stock speakers have ok bass but are otherwise very muddy. Sound Ordnance sound very clean with surprisingly good bass. And this is with the stock head unit and it's internal amp which is pretty much crap. With an aftermarket amp, I bet these new speakers would have awesome punch but I don't have the energy to install an amp right now. Overall, at around $100 pair these speakers are a compete steal! Buy them, you will not regret it.

Pros: Great sound and quality worth at least twice the price paid Very complete kit (includes hook up wires, hardware etc.) Crossover very easy to wire

Cons: Goofy product name and cheesy logo (but thankfully covered up behind stock grills) Crossover is rather large but not hard to find space in 2011 Jeep Wrangler Should have done this upgrade to my Jeep earlier!

HUGE Crossover

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality should be okay. But can't truely test them because one of the crossovers got crushed by one of the window glasses while lowered to the bottom right after installation because these crossovers are HUGE. I have already trying my best installed them to the very bottom of the door but the tops still touches the bottom of the window glasses. Now only using them w/o any crossovers.. Yark... Not to mention the claimed OEM brackets doesn't fit neither subwoofers nor would line up with the mounting holes in the car. Should have saved money for something that at least will work. Credit gives to Crutchfield that offers return with restocking fee (for damaged parts). Didn't do it because had already modified "OEM mounting brackets" and drilled a hole on top of the each speaker for mounting to the "OEM bracket" and the the car.. :(

Pros: subwoofers and tweeters

Cons: HUGE crossovers that I can't find a good place to install them before they were broken by lowering the door glass... :P

Sound Ordnance P-65C

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to replace blown door woofers in a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante. The straight bass speaker was a perfect replacement. The wire connectors that Crutchfield included for free made this installation plug and play (Thanks Crutchfield!). The speakers are well made and sound good (a 1000% improvement over the buzzing blown speakers). So, if you're looking for bass only replacement speakers, these are a great choice. Crutchfield's shipping was also very fast.

Pros: Perfect bass-only replacement speakers. The free wire adapters were a really nice bonus.

Cons: The free brackets Crutchfield sent dis not fit this application, but that was not a show stopper as the speakers could be mounted without them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, and considering the are not top open the line, I guess they are ok.

Pros: At low levels they sound good. Tweeters sound good until you turn it up.

Cons: Not much bass. My new head unit puts out 50 w. I can't even turn it up to half and they start cutting out and sounding like crap. I've tried several adjustments, with a backing behind them, without the backing. I am going to try an amp and see what happens.

Installed on 98 Subaru Outback Sport

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound!!! Awesome speakers. The generic installation instructions don't apply to 98 Subaru Outback Sport. The crossovers will have to be mounted in between the door card and rear of the door frame with a 4.25 inch flexible steel roll and 1 inch bolt and nut. After that. Rock On!! Great bass and highs. This is the second set I have installed. First set was installed on a 95 Subaru Legacy 2 years ago and it still sounds great!!!

Pros: Deep bass and midrange sound from the woofers and clean highs from the tweeters. And great price.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the twice the money, easily worth 5 stars. Sound great, easy installation.

Pros: Way cheap for the sound quality. I think I'll get another set at this price.

Cons: Power handling is good but not great. Still, $60 for separates is awesome.

Great value for components or coaxial replacements

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these to replace the stock components in the front door of my 05 WRX. Installation was pretty easy. Crutchfield gives you speaker adapters but they don't fit the speaker or the opening, so I made my own wood ones, pretty easy. Mounting the tweeter was tricky, since I put it in the stock location. But it comes with a variety of little pods to mount the tweeter and I got it to work great in the stock location. As for sound, they sound fantastic. The bass out of the woofers is so much better than stock, and the tweeters don't sound tinny at all, sound nice and clear. They take power really well and don't break up with the amp I have them on. Crossovers are a bit large to some others I've seen, but easily mounted.

Pros: Excellent value, not too deep but still a big magnet, great tweeter, easy mounting options

Cons: Crossovers are big, which is only a problem if you can't find room. The adapter Crutchfield sent didn't fit the speakers themselves, or the door opening, which isn't really the fault of the speakers, and may not be a problem in other cars at all.
