About the Cambridge Audio Aero 2
Classic looks meet radical technology
Classic looks meet radical technology
With its grille on, you might mistake Cambridge Audio's Aero 2 for a typical bookshelf speaker. But one listen to its potent, room-filling bass and smooth, spacious highs and you'll know there's something different going on. A quick look under the grille reveals its secret. It's not the powerful 6-1/2" woofer (although that's impressive enough to merit its own attention), but what lies just above. In place of a conventional tweeter is a radical "BMR" driver that gives the Aero 2 its key sonic advantage. It's this same technology that makes all of Cambridge Audio's Aero Series speakers a fantastic choice for savoring stereo music or exceptional surround sound.
Cambridge Audio's radical BMR driver design gives the Aero 2 exceptional wide-range sound and performance.
The "BMR" advantage for natural, spacious sound
The BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver used in Cambridge's Aero Series features a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. This allows BMR drivers to cover a much wider frequency range than conventional tweeters.
Better midrange clarity
Why does that matter? Because with most speaker systems, the crossover point between the tweeter and woofer occurs in the critical midrange frequencies, where human ears are most sensitive to distortion and differences in sound between driver types. Aero 2's crossover point occurs all the way down at 250 Hz, giving you clearer, more natural sound. And since the BMR driver handles all of the highs and midrange, that means the woofer can focus on what it does best — bass.
Broad spacious soundstage
That's not the only advantage of BMR technology. This innovative driver construction also allows Aero series speakers to spread sound over a much broader area than conventional speakers. That extra-wide dispersion means you can put your speakers where you want and still enjoy deep, spacious stereo or surround sound throughout your entire room. This makes Aero speakers ideal for room layouts where your speaker placement options are less than optimal.
A solid cabinet that's built to perform
Aero series cabinets are not only discreet and classic-looking, they're engineered for better performance. Each solidly braced MDF enclosure is computer-designed to help minimize standing waves and prevent unwanted resonance from coloring the sound. Heavy-duty, gold-plated binding posts make it easy to connect the high-quality speaker wire of your choice for top-notch performance.

Features
BMR Driver: The Cambridge Audio Aero 2 bookshelf speaker employs a 2" Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) driver to seamlessly cover the frequency range from 250Hz to 22kHz, making it perfect for reproducing movie and music soundtracks with the greatest clarity and neutrality. By replacing the traditional tweeter with a BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver, the Aero 2 bookshelf speaker offers several key advantages over conventional center-channel speakers.
- 250Hz Crossover Point: Using the BMR shifts the crossover point between tweeter and woofer away from the usual 3kHz, right at the middle of the human ear's most sensitive hearing range, to a less problematic 250Hz. The result is a more natural, immersive and coherent sound.
- Wider Soundstage: BMRs also offer a wider sound, so speakers can be placed in a wider range of places while still delivering excellent stereo and surround effects; making these speakers ideal for modern homes.
- Accurate Bass Response: Using a BMR driver also means that Aero 2's woofers get to really focus on the midbass and bass frequencies for a more cinematic, immersive sound with accurate bass.
Custom-Designed Midbass Drivers: The Aero 2 bookshelf speakers employ a single 6.5" midbass drivers. These cone drivers are specifically designed to complement the BMR driver, so they can concentrate on lower bass and midbass frequencies.
Rigid Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Aero 2 bookshelf speaker cabinet is designed not only to look classic, discreet and stylish, but also is constructed using CAD (Computer Aided Design) techniques and critical bracing to minimize distortion and maximize audio quality. The enclosure is constructed of MDF to help eliminate resonance and distortion. The enclosure employs a front-firing port for improved efficiency and bigger bass output.
Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio Aero 2 bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with a set of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana-plugs (single only). The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.
Applications: The Cambridge Audio Aero 2 bookshelf loudspeakers are ideal for stereo and home theater applications in small to medium sized rooms. You can even add a Cambridge Audio Aero series powered subwoofer (779AERO9, sold separately).
Placement: Ideally the speakers and listening position should be located equal distances apart. The speakers should also be placed at ear level and slightly angled toward the listener. In addition, the speaker should be positioned at least 2" away from the back wall. If the speakers are placed on a desk or close to a wall, the bass may become too strong. The included foam inserts will reduce the bass output when inserted into the speakers' ports.
Mounting Options: The Cambridge Audio Aero 2 bookshelf loudspeakers include eight self-adhesive foam-feet (four each) to simply place the speakers securely on a desk, table, shelf, or speaker stand securely and safely. The foam feet add approximately 0.125" to the height of the speakers. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM41B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speakers.

I bought these to replace a pair of Energy Pro 3.5 speakers that I have been using for several years. I had never heard them so I kinda just took a leap of faith. I don't regret since they are an upgrade in any criteria I can think of.
