Radical technology that will turn your head
One listen to Cambridge Audio's Aero 3 surround speakers and you'll know there's something special going on. Their ability to deliver spacious, enveloping sound that brings movies and TV shows to life is truly impressive. A quick look under the grilles reveals their secret. In place of conventional woofers and tweeters are radical "BMR" drivers that give the Aero 3 their key sonic advantage. It's this same technology that makes all of Cambridge Audio's Aero Series speakers a fantastic choice for savoring stereo music or exceptional surround sound.
The "BMR" advantage for natural, spacious sound
The BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver used in Cambridge's Aero Series features a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. This allows BMR drivers to cover a much wider frequency range than conventional drivers.
Better midrange clarity
Why does that extra-wide frequency range matter? Because with most speaker systems, the crossover that's required between the woofer and tweeter occurs in the critical midrange frequencies, where human ears are most sensitive to distortion and differences in sound between driver types. Aero 3's two 4" BMR drivers go all the way from 22,000 Hz down to 80 Hz without the need for any crossovers, giving you clearer, more natural sound.
Broad spacious soundstage
That's not the only advantage of BMR technology. This innovative driver construction also allows Aero series speakers to spread sound over a much broader area than conventional speakers. That extra-wide dispersion means you can put your speakers where you want and still enjoy immersive surround sound throughout your entire room. This makes Aero speakers ideal for room layouts where your speaker placement options are less than optimal.
Premium construction with versatile surround connectivity
Aero series cabinets are not only discreet and classic-looking, they're engineered for better performance. Each solidly braced MDF enclosure is computer-designed to help minimize standing waves and prevent unwanted resonance from coloring the sound. Heavy-duty, gold-plated binding posts make it easy to connect the high-quality speaker wire of your choice for top-notch performance.
The Aero 3s not only give you more placement versatility than traditional surround speakers, they also offer more hookup options. Two pairs of input connectors on each speaker allow you to run them in "bipole" mode, with both BMR drivers playing the same sound in opposite directions for spacious surround effects — effective for a traditional 5.1 surround system. Or, wire the Aero 3 speakers to run in "dual monopole" mode with one driver connected to your receiver's "surround" channel output, and the other to its "rear" channel for stunning 7.1 surround using only a single pair of speakers.

Features
BMR Drivers: Using two 4" BMR drivers over traditional cone drivers gives the Aero 3 surround speaker several key advantages. The twin BMR drivers deliver a far more immersive, natural and coherent sound than traditional speakers, with a greater frequency response from 80Hz to 22,000 Hz. And BMRs naturally deliver a wider, more room-filling sound; ideal for rear/surround speakers. Plus they're more forgiving of placement than traditional speakers.
Dual Monopole or Bipole: The Aero 3 surround speakers are also more versatile than traditional rear speakers. The speakers can run in a "bipole" setting, with the two 4" BMR drivers outputting the same audio in opposite directions for an immersive wash of rear surround sound, ideal for a traditional 5.1ch surround system. But for stunning 7.1 surround, without the hassle of placing more speakers in your living room, the Aero 3 speakers can also be ran in "dual monopole" mode with one driver running surround and one running "surround back".
Premium Constructed Cabinet: The Aero 3 surround speaker cabinet is designed not only to look classic, discreet and stylish, but also is constructed using CAD (Computer Aided Design) techniques and critical bracing to minimize distortion and maximize audio quality. The enclosure is constructed of MDF to help eliminate resonance and distortion.
Dual Binding Posts: The Aero 3 surround loudspeakers have two sets of gold-plated binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. By removing the gold-plated jumpers and using the dual binding posts, you can wire the speakers for use as surround and surround-back speakers (7.1ch setup). Leave the gold-plated jumpers in place and connect only one set of terminals to use the Aero 3 as surround speakers only (5.1ch setup). The loudspeaker's binding posts will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana-plugs (single or dual). The dual binding post terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.
Mounting Options: The Cambridge Audio Aero 3 surround loudspeakers can be simply placed on a table-top, stand, or shelf. They can also be hung on the wall using the two keyhole slots on back of each speaker (mounting screws not provided). The keyhole slots are placed 11" apart. The speakers can be mounted to the side or rear walls for 5.1ch or 7.1ch surround sound. They should be mounted at ear level from the listening position.

So far so good. Replaced smaller surround speakers with these. Sounds good....give them a little break-in period to see if they start sounding even better. But really great so far.
