The center channel speaker with a difference

Complete your Cambridge Audio Aero Series home theater system with the Aero 5 center channel speaker. Its advanced driver technology works to deliver clear, distinct movie dialogue and exciting special effects. In place of a conventional tweeter, Cambridge gave this speaker a radical "BMR" driver.  It's this same technology that makes all of Cambridge Audio's Aero Series speakers a fantastic choice for savoring stereo music or immersive surround sound.

The "BMR" advantage for natural, spacious sound

The BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver used in Cambridge's Aero Series features flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. This allows BMR drivers to cover a much wider frequency range than conventional tweeters.

Better midrange clarity

Why does that matter? Because with most speaker systems, the crossover point between the tweeter and woofer occurs in the critical midrange frequencies, where human ears are most sensitive to distortion and differences in sound between driver types. Aero 5's crossover point occurs all the way down at 250 Hz, giving you clearer, more natural movie dialogue. And since the BMR driver handles all of the highs and midrange, that means the woofers can focus on what they do best — bass.

Broad spacious soundstage

That's not the only advantage of BMR technology. This innovative driver construction also allows Aero series speakers to spread sound over a much broader area than conventional speakers. This makes Aero speakers ideal for room layouts where your speaker placement options are less than optimum.

Built to perform

Aero series cabinets are not only discreet and classic-looking, they're engineered for better performance. Each solidly braced MDF enclosure is computer-designed to help minimize standing waves and prevent unwanted resonance from coloring the sound. Heavy-duty, gold-plated binding posts make it easy to connect the high-quality speaker wire of your choice for top-notch performance.

Your home theater's most important speaker

The center channel speaker is the workhorse in a home theater system. It has to reproduce clear dialogue and special effects that keep your eyes and ears glued to the movie action. A high-quality center speaker is a great investment for any surround sound setup. Try to choose one that's as closely matched as possible to your front right and left speakers, so that as sound moves across the front stage, it stays seamlessly realistic.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality from this center speaker is great! I paired this with Aeromax 2's for the front, Minx C46's for the surrounds and a Minx X200 sub. I brought the X200 sub about a year ago and was so impressed with it, I decided to update all my speakers with Cambridge Audio. I am more than pleased with this center speaker and all the Cambridge Audio speakers! System sounds fantastic!

Pros: Great sound quality, Not too large of a footprint.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect, sublime, excellence, well done Cambridge Audio and Thank you Crutchfield for carrying these!! These reproduce every nuance of the voice , all the voices , and allows the high quality of the 4 floor standing aero 6's to perform their duties of all sound effects even though they are the of the Bass Reflex kind, still, they are equipped with Bass Reflex Port hole stuffers for when the foam disc plug is added the bass is modified somewhat to a less expressive level and still is satisfying. I love our new cnter and fronts and surrounds. I am so happy we made the move to these. However , I must mention regarding the Aero 6's I forgot to mention on my review.....namely, that , recommended in the manual are the Sound Enhanceing procedure of face to face 10 cm or mm apart and one out of phase (pos to neg and neg to pos, ....instead of pos to pos and neg to neg ) and 36 hours is recommended at this face off , for increase flex and workin prior to expecting any extra volume responses . but, as recommended by Crutchfield, I toolk the alternate route not being too keen on reverse phase wireing up, and, did as recommended , which was, to place them where they will end upo being placed, and connect them normal fashion, pos to pos and neg to neg, anf then letteing them run, playing them for approx. . at least 55 hours of play before conducting any specialized listening or examinations or high volumes. So, instead of 5 hrs a day, did Sun. - Thurs. day & nite , on, now, superior ;-)

Pros: Remarkable clarity, dialogue and speech is perfect unl=ike ever before with all my efforts and 8 tries of various speakers.

Cons: Bananas worked with speakers perfectly, but be warned, do not bother to try with the Cambridge Audio Speakers are great both Aero 5 and aero 6.Reciever 551R, must be bare wire twisted or angled stiff version of connectors, not banananaplugs to receiver. oh well.

BMR Driver: The Cambridge Audio Aero 5 center-channel speaker employs a 2" Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) driver to seamlessly cover the frequency range from 250Hz to 22kHz, making it perfect for reproducing movie and music dialogue with the greatest clarity and neutrality. By replacing the traditional tweeter with a BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver, the Aero 5 center-channel speaker offers several key advantages over conventional center-channel speakers.

  • 250Hz Crossover Point: Using the BMR shifts the crossover point between tweeter and woofer away from the usual 3kHz, right at the middle of the human ear's most sensitive hearing range, to a less problematic 250Hz. The result is a more natural, immersive and coherent sound.
  • Wider Soundstage: BMRs also offer a wider sound, so speakers can be placed in a wider range of places while still delivering excellent stereo and surround effects; making these speakers ideal for modern homes.
  • Accurate Bass Response: Using a BMR driver also means that Aero 5's woofers get to really focus on the midbass and bass frequencies for a more cinematic, immersive sound with accurate bass.

Custom-Designed Midbass Drivers: The Aero 5 center-channel speaker employs dual 5.25" midbass drivers. These cone drivers are specifically designed to complement the BMR driver, so they can concentrate on lower bass and midbass frequencies.

Premium Constructed Cabinet: The Aero 5 center-channel speaker's cabinet is designed not only to look classic, discreet and stylish, but also is constructed using CAD (Computer Aided Design) techniques and critical bracing to minimize distortion and maximize audio quality. The enclosure is constructed of MDF to help eliminate resonance and distortion.

Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio Aero 5 center-channel loudspeaker is equipped with a set of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana-plugs (single only). The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.

Applications & Placement Options: The Cambridge Audio Aero 5 is designed to be used as your center-channel speaker in your home theater speaker system. Ideally, the center-channel speaker should be placed above or below your flat-panel TV or video display and equal distance to your listening position as the front speakers. The Cambridge Audio Aero 5 center-channel loudspeaker includes four self-adhesive foam-feet to place the speaker securely on a desk, table, shelf, or speaker-stand. The feet add approximately 0.125" of height to the speaker.
