We were already bowled over by Cambridge Audio's Aero 2 bookshelf speakers. Their smooth, seamless sound and surprising bass extension really opened some eyes around here. On balance, a fantastic little speaker. So when Cambridge introduced the "new and improved" Aeromax 2, we were understandably skeptical. Seriously, how much better could you possibly make the Aero 2s sound? Turns out, quite a bit!
The folks at Cambridge kept all the good bits from the Aero 2 — the wide-dispersion sound, powerful bass performance, and premium construction — then tweaked and tuned the design, and added a beautiful new high-gloss finish, to create the Aeromax 2. We think the improvements speak for themselves
Cambridge Audio's latest 4th generation BMR driver design gives the Aeromax 2 seamless wide-range sound with a crisp, detailed top-end, and a huge soundstage.
The "BMR" advantage for natural, spacious sound
The BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver used in Cambridge's Aeromax Series speakers features a flat surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. This allows the BMR driver to cover a much wider frequency range than conventional tweeters.
Better midrange clarity
Why does that matter? Because with most speaker systems, the crossover point between the tweeter and woofer occurs in the critical midrange frequencies, where human ears are most sensitive to distortion and differences in sound between driver types. Aeromax 2's crossover point occurs all the way down at 250 Hz, giving you clearer, more natural sound. And since the BMR driver handles all of the highs and midrange, that means the woofer can focus on what it does best — bass.
4th generation BMR driver for an even more spacious soundstage
That's not the only advantage of BMR technology. This innovative driver construction also allows Aeromax Series speakers to spread sound over a much broader area than conventional speakers. The Aeromax 2's latest 4th generation BMR features more rigid construction than previous designs for even better dispersion and a wider sweet spot. That extra-wide dispersion means you can put your speakers where you want and still enjoy deep, spacious stereo or surround sound throughout your entire room. This makes Aeromax speakers ideal for room layouts where your speaker placement options are less than optimal.
Further Aeromax refinements for even better performance
Cambridge didn't stop with just a new BMR driver — they rebuilt the Aeromax 2 from the ground up, starting with the cabinets. Each heavily braced enclosure is computer-designed to help minimize standing waves and prevent unwanted resonance from coloring the sound. This extensive bracing also locks the drivers in place to further reduce vibration for cleaner dynamics. You'll enjoy clear, sparkling highs and tight, high-accuracy bass that'll have you tapping your toes in time to the music.
Additional upgrades include an improved crossover network for superb levels of detail and transparency. New audiophile-grade speaker terminal posts and internal cabling made from high-purity, oxygen-free copper wire provide a solid and pristine signal path throughout the Aeromax 2. And finally, that gorgeous, furniture-grade high-gloss finish makes this speaker look just as good as it sounds

Features
BMR Driver (4th Generation): The Cambridge Audio AeroMax 2 bookshelf speaker employs a 2" Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) driver to seamlessly cover the frequency range from 250Hz to 22kHz, making it perfect for reproducing movie and music soundtracks with the greatest clarity and neutrality. This 4th generation BMR driver offers exceptional high frequency extension to deliver a crisp and detailed top end. By replacing the traditional tweeter with a BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver, the AeroMax 2 bookshelf speaker offers several key advantages over conventional center-channel speakers.
- 250Hz Crossover Point: Using the BMR shifts the crossover point between tweeter and woofer away from the usual 3kHz, right at the middle of the human ear's most sensitive hearing range, to a less problematic 250Hz. The result is a more natural, immersive and coherent sound.
- Wider Soundstage: The 4th generation BMR driver construction also delivers a more room-filling sound by using horizontal vibration modes for a much wider soundstage. This makes them ideal for modern homes and room layouts where speakers might not end up placed optimally for traditional stereo audio. You can place the Aeromax 2 wherever you want and still get great stereo and surround effects.
- Accurate Bass Response: Using a BMR driver also means that AeroMax 2's woofers get to really focus on the midbass and bass frequencies for a more cinematic, immersive sound with accurate bass.
Custom-Designed Midbass Drivers: The AeroMax 2 bookshelf speakers employ a single 6.5" midbass drivers. These cone drivers are specifically designed to complement the BMR driver, so they can concentrate on lower bass and midbass frequencies.
Rigid MDF Enclosure: The AeroMax 2 bookshelf speaker cabinet is designed not only to look classic, discreet and stylish, but also is constructed using CAD (Computer Aided Design) techniques and critical bracing to minimize distortion and maximize audio quality. The extensively braced cabinets lock the drivers mechanically to the cabinet structure resulting in lower coloration and cleaner dynamics. The enclosure is constructed of MDF to help eliminate resonance and distortion. Available in gloss white and gloss black finishes (the included magnetic grilles are black).
Bass Port: The AeroMax 2's enclosure employs a front-firing port for improved efficiency and bigger bass output.
Gold-Plated Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio AeroMax 2 bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with a set of gold-plate binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana-plugs (single only). The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.
High-Grade Internal Cabling: The Cambridge Audio AeroMax 2 bookshelf speaker utilizes Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) internal cabling for the purest signal path from the audiophile-grade, gold-plated terminal posts to the crossover and drive units.
Applications: The Cambridge Audio AeroMax 2 bookshelf loudspeakers are ideal for stereo and home theater applications in small to medium sized rooms. You can even add a Cambridge Audio Aero series powered subwoofer (779AERO9, sold separately).
Placement: Ideally the speakers and listening position should be located equal distances apart. The speakers should also be placed at ear level and slightly angled toward the listener. In addition, the speaker should be positioned at least 2" away from the back wall.
Mounting Options: The Cambridge Audio AeroMax 2 bookshelf loudspeakers include eight self-adhesive foam-feet (four each) to simply place the speakers securely on a desk, table, shelf, or speaker stand securely and safely. The foam feet add approximately 0.125" to the height of the speakers. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM41B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speakers.
