Cambridge Audio Minx Min 11 Lifestyle shot

Engineered with passion

Building upon the highly regarded original Minx Min 20, Cambridge Audio engineers carefully designed the Minx Min 21 at their London facility to deliver even more refined sound, including greater bass extension for better sonic matching with a powered sub. This overachiever rewrites the rulebook of what's possible from miniature speakers thanks to BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) technology. BMR drivers use a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. It's what allows the Minx Min 21 to cover a much wider frequency range than comparably sized speakers. You'll also experience a much broader sound dispersion across your entire room, for the most enveloping sound imaginable. Plus, the compact, acoustically damped cabinet offers extreme rigidity, so you hear pure, clean sound no matter how intense your movies get.

Speakers that fit your lifestyle

Naturally, you want your speakers to fit into your home, rather than having to design your living space around your system. That's why the compact Minx Min 21 satellites can be mounted to your wall, placed on stands, or positioned on a tabletop using optional hardware. You can mix and match between colors, or use the Minx Min 21 models in the front of your room with smaller Minx Min 11s in the back.

Driver Technology

Minx Satellite Speaker: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker provides accuracy, detail, and realism from a compact speaker. Its wide dispersion capabilities make it easy to integrate into any room. The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 is designed to be mated with your choice of Cambridge Audio Minx Subwoofer (779X200W, 779X300W, 779X500W; sold separately).

BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) Technology: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features dual 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) drivers. The Cambridge Audio BMR driver utilizes patented 'bending wave' principles normally seen in advanced flat-panel speakers, combined with piston-movement (backwards and forwards) like in a traditional speaker design. This type of design provides the Minx satellite speaker with a much wider frequency response and deeper and more powerful bass frequencies, plus incredibly spacious sound. The BMR driver design also adds value by delivering a much broader sound dispersion across the entire room, avoiding the typical "sweet spot" pitfall, for a more enveloping sound.

Rubber Surround: The 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver employs a rubber surround for added durability and excursion.

Neodymium Magnets: The BMR driver utilizes ultra-compact push-pull neodymium magnets for greater efficiency.

Frequency Response: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features a 120Hz to 20,000Hz frequency range.

Power Handling: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker can handle 15 to 50 watts (RMS).

Enclosure Design

Compact Enclosure: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features a 3.125" (w) x 6.125" (h) x 3.75" (d) enclosure.

Acoustic Suspension: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure for greater detail and tonal accuracy.

Acoustically Damped Cabinet: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker employs an acoustically damped thermo-polymer and extruded aluminum cabinet to prevent distortion caused by resonance and vibration.

Removable Grille: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 includes a detachable cloth grille.

High-Gloss Finish: The Minx MIN21 is available in a high-gloss black (with black cloth grille) or high-gloss white finish (with silver cloth grille). The black and white high-gloss lacquers are finished to the highest standard using paint application techniques developed by premium automotive manufactures. The black and white lacquer finishes are hard to scratch and easy to clean.

Connections

Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker is equipped with a pair of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire, pin-connectors, and spade-connectors. The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.

Banana Plugs: The satellite speaker's binding post terminals can be removed to allow use of banana plugs (single only). The binding post terminals simply pull out of the back of the speaker, which allows access to banana connector inputs.

Mounting Options

Placement: The speaker can be mounted vertically or horizontally (as center-channel speaker). The speaker should be angled toward the listener, if possible.

Table-Top Mount: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet to simply place the speaker securely on a table or shelf. There is also an optional Minx Table-Top Stand (779MTSA, sold separately) available, which allows placement on a desk, table, or shelf.

Wall Mount: The Minx MIN21 features a rear-mounted 6mm threaded insert which allows you to wall-mount the speaker using the included keyhole-slot adapter, the Cambridge Audio Minx Wall Bracket (779MPWM, sold separately), or other optional wall-mount bracket (sold separately).

Speaker Stand: The 6mm threaded insert on the back of the satellite speaker can be used to attach the speaker to the Cambridge Audio Minx Floor Stands (779MFSB, sold separately).

Q
For the minx21 as center speaker, do the voice sound crisp and clear? I have minx11 as rear speakers looking to get the larger ones (minx21) for the fronts. Thanks

A
I do own the minx 21 speakers. I have never used or owned the Minx 11 speakers. I think the 21s are fantastic and work great as they are but I don't know how a 21 will sound with the smaller 11 speakers. I suspect it will be ok.
elliot  Dec 19, 2014
A
ABSOLUTELY! I use the minx21 as my center speaker and it sounds crystal clear with no distortion at higher volumes. I also use it for the fronts as well and have the minx11 for the rear. I love the setup and could not be happier with the sound quality for all of them. I would HIGHLY recommend the minx21 & minx11.

I think the Minx 21 are a great smooth sounding speaker but I have not tried them for a center channel. I have a larger, full range for my center channel since music sound stage is my focus. A minx 21 might be just fine as a center channel speaker for TV/movie surround since they are usually not mixed in the same way as a stereo recording.

Toan T, I didn't use them for my center because of the importance of that piece I went with something with a bit more power (and a higher price) PSB satellite/center. However I did buy a pair of the Minx21s for my front left and right at the same time and have to say that all the reviews I read before purchasing were spot on. Very crisp and clear. Plenty power to fill a rather large family room with high ceilings. The sound is great for music when I'm in a different room entirely (though, don't think you're going to get floor standing biggie sounds from them). My guess is that one of these would hold up pretty well as a center too!

I am pleased with the minced 21 as surround. I have paired with four minx 11 as surround and a klipsh powered sub. Given small firm factor I am happy with it, mostly watching sports
david  Dec 17, 2014
A
Yes I think they sound clear for voice. I use them for music, not TV, with a subwoofer. They are not ideal for music but I think they'd be very good for front surround speakers.
thatcher  Dec 17, 2014

I set a pair of them up with a small sub in an RV with a 32" LED TV. I was impressed with the quality of sound for music and for dialog in movies.
frank  Dec 17, 2014

I am using minx 11 as my front left, right, and rear surrounds and a minx 21 as my front center channel. The sound is crisp and clear and does not overpower the 11s. The minx 21 matches well with the minx 11s and the minx sub. You do need to ask cambridge audio for a grill with the cambridge logo in the horizontal position though if you are using the minx 21 as a center. They sent me one for free. Hope this helps.

I have the Minx21 as my left, right, and center speakers with a sub woofer. As a center speaker they work very well. With my set up the voices are crisp and clear. I used to have two very nice tower speakers and a sub woofer and I consistently had to change the volume to hear the dialog clearly over the sounds affects. With my current setup the voices are crisp and clear and the sound affects still fantastic and I do not have to change the sound levels at all. I highly recommend the Minx 21 as a center speaker.
donald  Dec 17, 2014

Yes. I believe so. I have the minx 21s set up for a 7.1 and 5.1 configuration and I'm very happy for the size and sound. I replaced my bose lifestyle with these and have no regrets.
william  Dec 17, 2014

I have Minx 21s for the fronts (and rears) with the CA Aero 5 for the center and CA Minx 300 for the sub. The sound whether it be music, voice or environmental is crisp, clear and fantastic. I highly recommend this setup.
kimberly  Dec 17, 2014

Honestly, I'm not impressed. I like crisp clear highs and a nice full mid and these just didn't do it for me. I think you can do better for the money, Definatve Technology Pro Monitor 800 is a good choice.

Q
I am interested in the Cambridge audio Min 21 speakers because of their wide dispersion. My reluctance is that most reviewers are critical of the speakers treble and mid range claiming they are shrill and thin to listen to. What are your thoughts. Is there a speaker out there with warmer highs that will give the dispersion of this speaker?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best speakers for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Q
Will five of the Audio Minx 21 speakers work in a large room, 20x25. Will they fill the room with sound if i use two subs?.
howard  Jan 18, 2014

A
I think the speakers are great in the correct configuration. Nothing shrill, brittle or fuzzy at all. Crisp, clear highs that fill the room and surround us with beautiful music. I have them installed in an 18x29 room with a fireplace. I have two subs. Very pleased.
kimberly  Dec 17, 2014
A
Easily. The satellite speakers are great. You may not even need 2 subs. That's more of a personal preference. As long as you have the right a/v receiver you should be good to go with 5 minx 21 speakers. Enjoy!
connor  Jan 21, 2014
A
In my opinion they will. As long as the subwoofers are well located and the crossover freq set up correctly for the room, I think you won't regret it, specially at mid-high levels, I find that subwoofer usually lacks at low levels (without having to increase the sub level). You also have to realize that these speakers will sound beautifull but will not play lower than 120 Hz or so, which will limit the subwoofer placement (at least one of the two, depending on your crossover capabilities) due to the ability to locate freq between 80-120hz appvrox. Or whatever croozover freq you end up using (140hz?) In my case I have a 12" sub located next to the tv and I love the setup, if placing the sub close to the front speakers will not work for you, then you might want to consider some bigger speakers than can play down to 80hz and then place the subwoofer somewhere else (i.e. behind couch) These speakers are small but very capable of reproducing beautifull and loud sound.
