Cambridge Audio's Minx Min 21 proves that great, soul-stirring sound can come from incredibly small speakers. Hook a set of these babies up to your home theater system and get ready to hear extraordinary levels of power and sonic refinement that'll send chills down your spine. Designed for hi-fi sound on a low-fi budget, the Minx Min 21 will instantly fill your living space with a tonal quality that has to be heard to be believed. You'll be blown away by the accuracy, detail, and realism from this stacked speaker that measure just 6" high and less than 4" deep. Whether you're looking to maximize your music or movie experience or add depth to your favorite TV shows and sports events, the Minx Min 21 is waiting to reveal what you've been missing.

Cambridge Audio Minx Min 11 Lifestyle shot

Engineered with passion

Building upon the highly regarded original Minx Min 20, Cambridge Audio engineers carefully designed the Minx Min 21 at their London facility to deliver even more refined sound, including greater bass extension for better sonic matching with a powered sub. This overachiever rewrites the rulebook of what's possible from miniature speakers thanks to BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) technology. BMR drivers use a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. It's what allows the Minx Min 21 to cover a much wider frequency range than comparably sized speakers. You'll also experience a much broader sound dispersion across your entire room, for the most enveloping sound imaginable. Plus, the compact, acoustically damped cabinet offers extreme rigidity, so you hear pure, clean sound no matter how intense your movies get.

Speakers that fit your lifestyle

Naturally, you want your speakers to fit into your home, rather than having to design your living space around your system. That's why the compact Minx Min 21 satellites can be mounted to your wall, placed on stands, or positioned on a tabletop using optional hardware. You can mix and match between colors, or use the Minx Min 21 models in the front of your room with smaller Minx Min 11s in the back. Just be sure to add a Cambridge Audio powered subwoofer to get full bass impact with your action flicks and video games.

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Driver Technology

Minx Satellite Speaker: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker provides accuracy, detail, and realism from a compact speaker. Its wide dispersion capabilities make it easy to integrate into any room. The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 is designed to be mated with your choice of Cambridge Audio Minx Subwoofer (779X200W, 779X300W, 779X500W; sold separately).

BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) Technology: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features dual 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) drivers. The Cambridge Audio BMR driver utilizes patented 'bending wave' principles normally seen in advanced flat-panel speakers, combined with piston-movement (backwards and forwards) like in a traditional speaker design. This type of design provides the Minx satellite speaker with a much wider frequency response and deeper and more powerful bass frequencies, plus incredibly spacious sound. The BMR driver design also adds value by delivering a much broader sound dispersion across the entire room, avoiding the typical "sweet spot" pitfall, for a more enveloping sound.

Rubber Surround: The 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver employs a rubber surround for added durability and excursion.

Neodymium Magnets: The BMR driver utilizes ultra-compact push-pull neodymium magnets for greater efficiency.

Frequency Response: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features a 120Hz to 20,000Hz frequency range.

Power Handling: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker can handle 15 to 50 watts (RMS).

Enclosure Design

Compact Enclosure: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features a 3.125" (w) x 6.125" (h) x 3.75" (d) enclosure.

Acoustic Suspension: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker features an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure for greater detail and tonal accuracy.

Acoustically Damped Cabinet: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker employs an acoustically damped thermo-polymer and extruded aluminum cabinet to prevent distortion caused by resonance and vibration.

Removable Grille: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 includes a detachable cloth grille.

High-Gloss Finish: The Minx MIN21 is available in a high-gloss black (with black cloth grille) or high-gloss white finish (with silver cloth grille). The black and white high-gloss lacquers are finished to the highest standard using paint application techniques developed by premium automotive manufactures. The black and white lacquer finishes are hard to scratch and easy to clean.

Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN21 satellite speaker is equipped with a pair of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire, pin-connectors, and spade-connectors. The terminals are color-coded (black/red) to distinguish between positive and negative.

Banana Plugs: The satellite speaker's binding post terminals can be removed to allow use of banana plugs (single only). The binding post terminals simply pull out of the back of the speaker, which allows access to banana connector inputs.

Mounting Options

Placement: The speaker can be mounted vertically or horizontally (as center-channel speaker). The speaker should be angled toward the listener, if possible.

Table-Top Mount: The Minx MIN21 satellite speaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet to simply place the speaker securely on a table or shelf. There is also an optional Minx Table-Top Stand (779MTSA, sold separately) available, which allows placement on a desk, table, or shelf.

Wall Mount: The Minx MIN21 features a rear-mounted 6mm threaded insert which allows you to wall-mount the speaker using the included keyhole-slot adapter, the Cambridge Audio Minx Wall Bracket (779MPWM, sold separately), or other optional wall-mount bracket (sold separately).

Speaker Stand: The 6mm threaded insert on the back of the satellite speaker can be used to attach the speaker to the Cambridge Audio Minx Floor Stands (779MFSB, sold separately).

Outstanding (mini) center speaker

Written By JohnP, Roanoke, Virginia on Monday, March 30, 2015

I already had the Cambridge Audio Minx S215 5.1 set-up for my home theater but was not completely satisfied with the center speaker. I thought I'd try replacing the center with the larger Minx 20 which happened to be on sale, so a good opportunity. Yeah, it's noticeably better as expected. Good upgrade for the money.

Pros: Matches my current S215 system in black. Looks great. I have the front Minx 10's wall mounted and the rears on stands, the Minx 20 under the wall mounted TV and the sub on the floor. It's a clean look, especially compared to my former, and much larger footprint Canton 5.1 set-up.

Cons: None really. It's a small system so you know what you're getting.

Very good product, especially if the size is highly important

Written By Mark H, Maryland on Monday, March 30, 2015

I bought a pair of the Minx 11's (1/2 the size of the 21's) am using the small cube 11's for rears. They do a fine job, and so when I thought about new main speakers for use with a radio/receiver in a different room, I considered the size and mounting. My room was such that a small stealth install was very important. So, knowing I liked the smaller Minx 11's I decided to roll the dice and purchase these 21's + the separate Cambridge mounting brackets. I found the brackets to be a tad expensive but they work perfectly so I have no regrets at all - I do recommend the optional mounting brackets.

I have the Minx 21's in a small room, and have a 10" powered subwoofer. I found I have the volume down on the sub more than I expected. These tiny Minx 21 speakers just can't product significant bass (they are small, smaller than a single brick and they weigh less than 2 lbs) but they produce much more than I was expecting. The sound is quite clear, the appearance is great (I have them wall-mounted just behind a sheer white curtain and you don't even notice the speakers in the room until you look for them). I think overall, considering the size, considering the cost, and considering the appearance of the product, I do recommend these speakers. Consider also the sound quality and I think you'll be pleased overall.

Pros: Small Good quality sound Cost

Cons: None, as long as you know these are small, lightweight speakers and as such they could use some help with bass by having a subwoofer- that should come as no surprise but I was surprised how much sound can come from these little boxes.

Great for satellite but less so for music

Written By Familyman, Apple Valley, MN on Sunday, March 29, 2015

Very well made speaker, attractive, compact and good value at the sale price. Unfortunately, sound just wasn't full enough for my main purpose, music listening. Seems like an excellent choice as a compact home theater sattelitte speaker. Trading up to a compact speaker with greater range. Thanks Crutchfield for the excellent support and advice on the trade in. Great experience overall from a customer service standpoint.

Pros: Compact, stylish, good value

Cons: Short on full range of sound for music

Great product

These are great sounding and small enough to easily blend well into modern decor. Easy to install with separate brackets.

Although not cheap, great value and great sound in a small package. Definitely able to fill a family room with a clear, crisp sound!

Family room fit!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Having completed a remodel of the family room we wanted to update our home theater speakers. Purchased a pair of these little dynamos based on the recommendation from a Crutchfield tech person. We were limited on the center channel speaker dimentions given the new design height between fireplace mantel and lower edge of TV so went with a PSB Alpha CLR1 center and were told the Minx min 21s would pair well. (have a couple of options for the sub that i'm still trying). I let them break in for a a while and recently had daughter and friends watching the Nightmare before Christmas. A musical, so plenty of opportunities to hear effects, music, dialog, and so many different characters unusual voices. I know the center was doing lots of work at the same time (it's great, see other review) but the Minx21s as front left and right speakers helped fill the room with rich sound and I never detected anything the least bit tinny or felt that they were lacking the power to fill a good size room (sitting back 12 feet from speakers, and having 12 ft ceilings). I'm not anywhere near an audio geek, but I do love and appreciate great music and great sound. I have the Energy micro theater (5.1) set up for the "man cave" which is a much smaller room. Those sound great in there. These sound just as good in a bigger room.

Pros: Tiny size great sound sleek black design

Cons: none yet perhaps not the greatest if you want room filling tunes from your collection of vinyl

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am using these speakers as Front Presence speakers in my 9.1 home theater system. They are bright and clear and really add another dimension to the sound produced by my Yamaha Aventage preamp. My wife likes the fact that the speakers are small and fit in well with our family room.

Pros: Size, sound, and price

Cons: Haven't found any as yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound from such a small package. Very clear with no distortion even on higher levels. This replaced my 300 series speakers from a decade ago which I loved, but these are far superior in every way. I use them mainly for TV Surround sound , but also use them for music and gaming.

Pros: Small package. Looks. EXTREMELY CLEAR SOUND.

Cons: None so far

so good it's scary

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been using a Minx 2.1 system (Minx 10's and Minx 200 sub from Crutchfield) for about 2 years as TV speakers, and stereo now and then. Crazy good for TV and movies, acceptable for stereo, but nothing to write home about. I'm using Music Hall amp and CD player, about $1500 for the pair, and I'm pretty particular about having clean sound. Thought I'd upgrade to the Minx 21's to see if there was much difference between the 21's and the 10's for music listening. Out of the box they sounded pretty amazing, a huge leap from the single driver 10's., I couldn't be happier. My room is a converted porch room 12'x16' with hip roof, 14' to the peak. I've had Totem Mites and Arros in there, also Meadowlark Kestrels, even mounted Allison 4's. Nothing sounded great in there except the Minx 21's. Even my wife noticed how great they sound. Go figure.

Go and buy the 21's, but you may want to use them with a larger sub than the 200w Minx sub, depends how loud you like to listen.

Pros: Very wife friendly, I have them mounted on the Minx stands, more efficient than the 10's, the drivers are slightly different, with the top being the conventional Minx driver, and the bottom speaker has a longer throw that puts more growl in the bottom end.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are probably the best sounding mini speakers out there, but by themselves, they do not do bass. They cast a spacious, detailed soundfield and are great for casual listening.

Pros: compact size, well built, good through the upper frequencies and upper midrange, cast a wide, unified, yet detailed soundfield

Cons: a bit pricey, require a bass module for ful range sounds (but this limitation applies to all compact speakers)

Dialogue sounds cold and highs a bit shrill/harsh

Written By Tennyson, Rocklin, CA on Monday, April 08, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like these, but I've used them for 3 weeks and found movie dialogue to be cold sounding and the highs to be a bit shrill or harsh. The sound quality did improve noticeably after the first week, but was stable after that. The improvement was surprising as I haven't noticed other speakers requiring break-in. The high frequency response is much better than the dual driver Bose cubes (from an acoustimass 15 system), but the dialogue sounds more tinny and cold. The speakers were driven by a Harman Kardon AVR7000. After some experimentation, I found replacing the center speaker of the Bose system with an ESS heil driver greatly improves the high frequency response while also providing clear dialogue. I'm planning to go with this combination rather than use the Minx MIN21's.

Pros: better high frequency response than bose satellites

Cons: dialogue sounds cold/tinny, highs sound a bit harsh/shrill
