Versatile, innovative design for professional photographers
Velbon's GEO series tripods are the best of the best. These carefully crafted, high-performance tripods let you take stunning photos from just about any angle and in just about any shooting condition. The GEO E640 can position your camera a mere 4-5/16" high, for low-to-the-ground macro shots. Or you can extend it all the way up to 61-1/8" for everyday shooting. And when you're ready to take it on the road, the whole thing folds down to just 17-3/4" for easy traveling. Mount your favorite tripod head or choose one of Velbon's professional ball heads, and you'll be set to start capturing the next award-winning landscape or travel photo.
Velbon's GEO series tripods use a unique carbon-fiber, basalt, and magnesium composite material, which gives the legs added strength and rigidity. The legs also feature spiral-etched surfaces for smooth, fast extension, and lever-locking sections for a more secure platform for your camera. And each leg is fitted with a rubber foot and retractable spike.
The GEO E640 also uses a quick release lever on the center column, which allows for fast adjustment to the height. You can also split the two-section center column to get down low to the ground and take steady macro shots. And the included carrying pouch is pretty nifty: it doubles as a ballast bag for added support in windy conditions.

Velbon GEO E640 Tripod
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I wanted a carbon fiber tripod that was lightweight, sturdy and somewhat compact for hiking. I also like the fact that it comes with a weight hook and bag. Very good build Does what it is supposed to do. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven't hiked with it yet.
Pros: Lightweight, Strong

Overview: The Velbon GEO E640 is a high quality Carbon Fiber tripod leg assembly that can be used with cameras and camcorders up to 20 pounds. There is no head included in this package. A standard ball socket or pan head can be attached, using a 1/4" or 3/8" head screw.
Spiral-etched Carbon Fiber Legs: The 4-section legs on the GEO E640 are made of spiral-etched Carbon Fiber and Basalt. The upper legs sections have a diameter of 28 mm (1.1"). The quick lever leg locks can secure the legs at any length. The legs each have a length scale at 2.5 and 5 centimeters. The leg angles can be set at a semi-low or full-low position. The legs have 2-way adjustable tips, which provide the option of a metal spike for rougher terrain, or rubber foot for slippery surface.
Split Center Column: The GEO E640's center column can be manually lifted for an additional 13" of height. The center column is split into two sections, allowing you to remove one section for shooting at the semi-low or full-low positions. The tripod has a new design release lever with a safety lock to allow for quick and easy center column height adjustments.
Center End Hook: The GEO E640 includes a hook that screws into the end of the center column. You can hang your camera bag on the hook to give the tripod a lower center of gravity, thus provide more stability in windy conditions.
Pochette: The included vinyl pochette has multiple uses. When attached to all three legs, you can use it as a stone bag, to give the tripod additional weight for stability in windy conditions. When the shoulder belt is connected, the pochette can be used as a pouch or as a carrying bag for the tripod.
