Velbon ULTRA LUXi L

Overview

Our take on the Velbon ULTRA LUXi L

Velbon's high-performance ULTRA LUXi L tripod lets you take stunning photos from just about any angle. The sturdy aluminum legs retract to hold your camera as low as 7-1/2" off the ground for taking close macro shots, or you can extend the tripod to a height of 63-7/16" for everyday shooting. And when you're ready to hit the road, the whole thing folds down to just 15-7/16" for easy traveling. The joystick-style grip lets you tilt the four-way panhead up and down, or left and right to smoothly sweep your camera across a scene.

Extra-long, sturdy twist-to-lock legs
All of Velbon's Ultra Series tripods feature patented Trunnion Shaft System (TSS) technology. It means that each leg section extends to the length of the section before it, making the tripod extremely compact when folded. It also features Velbon's "Twist Lock" leg system — a simple quick twist and pull allows you to extend each leg in one movement, while another twist locks the leg. It helps to ensure an incredibly stable, vibration-free platform for your camera.

Works with the tripod head of your choice
The included quick-release plate can be screwed into the threaded tripod socket of your camera and left in place. That way, you can quickly attach and detach your camera from the tripod, so you'll be ready for unexpected photo opportunities when they come up. If you already have a favorite tripod head, or want to use a Velbon professional ball head, you can easily remove the panhead and mount almost any tripod head in its place.

Tripod is really nice and solid with bubble levels for those straight shots.... It pods my Nikon D7000 perfectly. Overall extremely satisfied. Thanks Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This tripod is well made. I like the folded size and weight. I purchased a little back pack and it fits perfectly on the side. It was really easy to use and fold away once I started getting used to it. There could have been more instructions for me but someone that is good at using devices should have no problems using this. As for the weight, it was pretty light. I compared it to other cheaper tripods and there was no comparison. I am not an expert photographer, just using it to video my childrens' programs. I have a canon t3 with a large lens and I was impressed with the sturdy feel and I am glad that I made the investment.

Pros: Small and light weight, easy to use.

Cons: Didn't come with instructions for the average user.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

I returned my tripod to Crutchfields at the their suggestion because you can not go right and left with the arm, only up and down. The one time I tried using it there was no wind. It is very stable and light but would think strong wind would effect picture quality because it is so light. If you're talking 30 plus MPH wind that's a whole nudder ball game. [ MICHAEL  Jul 25, 2014 ]
The tripod is very lightweight, so I'm not sure I would trust it with a 5lb scope mounted on it, It seems sturdy enough, just not very heavy so it may be sommwhat top heavy. I do like the tripod thought because it is so lightweight and compact. It might be ok with some sandbags but that defeats the purpose, right. Jeff [ JEFFERY  Jul 25, 2014 ]
