Velbon Sherpa+ 630 Tripod Leg Set

Overview

Our take on the Velbon Sherpa+ 630 Tripod Leg Set

When speed counts, you'll be happy you have this Velbon Sherpa+ 630 leg set as part of your kit. First, its lightweight aluminum/magnesium construction means it's a pleasure to carry. But it's full of thought-out touches that will increase your efficiency. The center column has a super-fast quick-release lever with a safety lock, so you can adjust your height in seconds. And the '630 has a bit more vertical range than its cousin, the Sherpa+ 530. The foam-padded leg grips help you to readjust the unit while keeping a tight hold on your pivot legs. The legs themselves individually lock at 3 different positions for loads of flexibility in selecting shooting angles.

The Sherpa+ 630 leg set is suitable for a range of Velbon heads, including the FHD61QN video tripod head. No head is included with this item, so you'll need to choose an appropriate one for your shooting needs before you can be off working in the studio or the field.

Features

Overview: The Velbon Sherpa+ 630 is a high-quality set of tripod legs. The Sherpa+ series is a step-up from the Sherpa series, with thicker aluminum legs and a Magnesium alloy body. Panheads are not included.

Recommended Panheads: The tripod has a 1/4" and 3/8" head screw. The following Velbon panheads are recommended for use with the Sherpa+ 630:

3-Section Aluminum Legs: The 3-section telescoping legs include quick lever leg locks for quick and easy leg positioning. The legs can be set to three angle adjustments: Standard, Semi Low, and Full Low position. The non-slip rubber feet provide steady, free-standing support.

Center Column: The 2-piece center column, or elevator, gives you an 12.8" range of vertical movement. The lower section can removed to allow the tripod to be placed in the Full Low position.

Accessory Hook: The tripod comes with an accessory hook that can be screwed onto the bottom of the center column. This can be used to hang a camera bag, purse, or other items to keep them off the ground or floor. You can also attach a weight to the tripod for maximum stability, especially in windy conditions.

A durable tripod for heavier cameras

Written by Ralph Graves, Staff Writer - Creative, on 5/17/2012 10:15:00 AM

The Sherpa+630 tripod felt hefty and rugged when I pulled it out of the box. Its magnesium/aluminum construction provides strong support, while helping to keep the weight of the tripod relatively low.

The quick-release worked well. It really locked down the center column when engaged — important when supporting 8 lbs. of camera. And speaking of the center column, it unscrews into two sections, so I could get the tripod low. This is one tripod that's ready for the wild.
