Multifunction arm for tripods

Our take on the Velbon V4

by David Brown

Transform your tripod with the Velbon V4 multifunction arm. Connect it to almost any tripod with a 1/4" screw. Then, you can grab the grip, twist it to unlock, and tilt your camera up or down for full range of movement. Tilt it straight down for cool overhead macro shots or low-angle photos. Or pan a full 360 degrees for smooth panorama shooting. The V4 also features a sliding function which smoothly extends the arm — great for creating a zoom effect while manually moving the camera closer to your subject.

Overview: The Velbon V4-unit is a tripod accessory arm that gives you a great deal of control over the angle and position of the camera. The multi-function arm can be rotated 360°, and has a geared center column for up/down or horizontal movements. You can also invert the center column to shoot close-up photos from directly above the subject, with the camera positioned beneath the tripod. An optional head (1/4" head screw) can be attached to the end of the center column for even more angle variations.

Controls: The V4-unit has a geared elevator (center column) with a crank control for extending and retracting. The center column has approximately 8" of movement. A rotary elevator lock lets you tighten down the elevator to prevent unwanted movement. The V4-unit has a twisting lock control for tightening and loosening the tilt control of the arm.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This boom really adds a new dimension to your tripod. Properly set up it doubles as an equatorial mount allowing you to rotate your camera along the equatorial and polar axis'. I am surprised by the quality, heft, and weight capacity. Oh yeah, it also works like a macro slide, the gear driven extension is quite precise.
Features, build, precision.
Heavy, bulky.
