An audiophile favorite

A perennial favorite among audiophiles, Sumiko's Blue Point No.2 offers outstanding performance and musicality for the price. This cool blue moving coil cartridge serves up the warm, rich sound of vinyl with remarkably smooth tonal balance plus plenty of musical detail and resolution. Mount one to your 'table and discover the multilayed musical textures hidden in the grooves of your favorite records.

Moving-coil design for high-definition sound

Vinyl lovers have long prized moving-coil cartridges for their clear, spacious sound. Compared to moving magnet designs, the Blue Point No.2's moving coils have less moving mass. That allows the stylus to track each record's grooves more accurately, yielding greater sonic detail and transparency. This cartridge also boasts a nude-mounted, elliptical diamond stylus to minimize friction and wear on your treasured LPs, while providing a longer usable lifespan. Plus, its' high-output voltage design means direct compatibility with the phono inputs on more receivers and amps, eliminating the need for an additional moving-coil preamp.

Product Highlights:

  • high-output moving-coil design
  • nude-mounted 0.3 x 0.7mm elliptical diamond stylus
  • alloy tube cantilever

Excellent Step Up in Cartridge Hierarchy

Written By Jeff, New York on Monday, March 02, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just so happened to upgrade from the Shure M97xE as David did, the previous reviewer. I love the simplicity of the Blue Point in comparison. Easy to see where the "needle drops" with the cartridge's flat face and white marked center. Very different from the M97xE's Dynamic Stabilizer brush for which I never used. I can tell an improvement in sound quality right away. I also like the fact that this moving coil Blue Point is high output at 2.5mV. This means I can use my Bellari VP130 Tube Phono Preamp without excessive gain/volume. Very happy with that. Overall, terrific choice for an upgraded cartridge without breaking the bank. Used my Crutchfield Rewards Points as well. Thanks Crutchfield!

Blue Point No. 2

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wonderful Sound. Very musical, great stereo separation and imaging. This is my first venture into the "audiophile" cartridge world. Upgraded from a Shure 97XE. Wanted to see if all the talk about the Blue Point No. 2 was true and and at this price point it wouldn't break the bank. At first listen could tell I had stepped up to a new level of quality sound from my previous cartridge. Amazing!!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great sound under $500.00.
