Mohu Curve 50

The power to pull in your favorite TV shows

If you've had limited success receiving over-the-air TV broadcasts, it may be time to replace your old-school antenna with Mohu's smartly engineered Curve 50. Its ultra-thin design uses advanced technology originally developed for the U.S. military. You can conveniently place the Curve 50 on a shelf, countertop, or table near your TV — it works either standing upright or lying flat. Like most antennas, the Curve 50 generally performs best when located fairly high in the room or near a window.

Mohu's signal amplifier extends the Curve 50's range

The Curve 50 includes Mohu's high-performance Jolt antenna amplifier, which uses patent-pending technology to increase reception range while filtering out the RF noise that can harm picture quality. Compared to the unamplified Curve 30, most people find that the Curve 50's antenna/amplifier combo lets them receive more stations, while also producing a clearer picture on stations with less-than-perfect reception. The compact amplifier module connects between the Curve 50 and your TV.

You have a couple of options for powering the amplifier. There's a mini USB port on the amplifier module, which allows you to power it off of any standard USB port on your TV — the USB-to-mini-USB cable is included. The advantage of USB power is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, instead of 24/7. If you don't have an available USB port on your TV, the amplifier also includes a regular AC power adapter, which you can plug into any standard wall outlet.

Product Highlights:

  • receives digital and analog TV signals — high-band VHF (channels 7-13) and UHF (channels 14-51)
  • range is 50 miles
  • thin, curved design can lie flat or stand upright
  • includes amplifier module with 15 dB gain and Clean Peak™ filter technology
  • mini USB jack for AC power — amplifier can be powered via USB port on your TV or via standard AC wall outlet (cable included)
  • includes 16-ft. detachable coaxial cable
  • 11-11/16"W x 7-3/4"H x 2-3/8"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Features

Overview: The Mohu Curve 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna is a simple plug-in solution for receiving over-the-air TV broadcasts. The Curve 50 has a clean, designer look, and can be placed on a shelf, countertop, or table. It is designed for users that live within 50 miles of a TV tower.

Amplifier: The Curve 50 has an in-line amplifier that provides a +20dB gain in the incoming signal. Clean Peak filter technology removes unwanted RF signals and boosts the signals that are desired. The amplifier receives power from the included AC power cube and USB cable.

Receiving Pattern: The Curve 50 is a multi-directional antenna, receiving TV broadcast signals equally well from all directions. You may have to experiment with antenna placement to find the best reception. The antenna can stand upright or lay flat.

Connections: The antenna comes with a 16' length of coaxial cable to run from the antenna to the amplifier. The amplifier's coaxial cable plug into the antenna input of the TV. The power to the amplifier runs from the power cube via the supplied USB cable and extension. The antenna should be placed within 6' of an AC power outlet.

Channel Scan: After connecting the antenna to the TV, you should perform a channel scan on the TV to see which stations are being received by the antenna.

Great design

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Be sure your close to a metropolitan area. I am a ways away and I purchased this because of the 50 mile radius. After hook up the Muhu Curve worked fine but I only received 6 channels and most of them were shopping Ch. The design is great but in my area not many Ch. are available. If you are closer to a metro area I would recommend the Mohu.

Pros: Great Design with everything included

Cons: Not much reach in my area

Product improved reception of local Charlottesville and Richmond channels. Included cables allowed optimal placement of the antenna.

Pros: Worked well. Innocuous antenna design. Flexible placement of antenna. Easy set up.

Cons: None

Works surprisingly well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found that with a little effort this antenna performs pretty well. As with any antenna I've found that placement and orientation are critical to tune in specific channels. Although the manufacturer claims the antenna is more or less omnidirectional, this is not optimal. I don't recommend permanently affixing it to a wall... Keep it on a shelf or table near a window, within easy reach so you can point it and improve your reception for any given station.

That said, once I got used to it, I am able to pick up stations up to 70 miles distant, a pleasant surprise.

Additionally, I did not experience the problem with the amplifier piece that the other reviewer on crutchfield did, mine seems to work fine. He must have gotten a defective unit.

Overall, a good alternative to rooftop or attic antennas. I am receiving the stations I wanted to get, so I'm pretty satisfied.

Pros: Great range. Compact, lightweight and not too ugly.

Cons: May require adjustment depending on your situation.

Mohu Curve 50 - winner with an asterisk

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

End results with the Curve 50 definitely merits 5 stars; however, I had some problems getting there, so I'm going with 3 stars overall...

I previously was using a Mohu Leaf Ultimate, and was pleased with its performance, but I was interested in a different design aesthetically, so I tried the Curve... In the looks department, the Curve is great - much easier to "hide" the cable in various configurations - that's a win. Anyway, I put everything together and fired it up. Did a channel search and got zip-nada. I was dumbfounded, since I knew the connections were all good. On a whim, I decided to swap the Curve 50's amplifier for my old Leaf Ultimate amplifier, and when I did that, the stations came flooding in... I got more stations with the Curve than I did with the Leaf, and they were all rock-solid and crystal-clear. I tried the Curve amplifier one more time, and still got nothing. So, I'm VERY pleased with final results overall, but I'm also very happy I had that old amplifier to use! Maybe my Curve 50 amp happened to be a dud, or maybe that new amp design is simply whacked - who knows...

Pros: The Curve antenna itself appears to be a better design (in terms of reception capability) than its Leaf counterpart -- I was ultimately able to pull in more stations with the Curve than with the Leaf. I hung the Curve on a wall, and it certainly looks much nicer there than the Leaf did. Win-win.

Cons: The amplifier I got with my Curve 50 was either a total dud, or this new amplifier design they are using with the Curve 50 is completely worthless. When I tried to use it, no stations could be located (yes, I do mean zero!).

I'm getting the Dish Hopper with sling in two weeks. I've heard I can connect with that device to add OTA stations. I live in central Massachusetts and I would love to get the HD channels from the Boston area. Would this be the best atenna for this purpose? Thanks! [ Emery  Mar 30, 2014 ]
This antenna is designed for use with a single TV. If you would like to connect multiple TVs to an antenna, then you may want to look at one of the larger ones. A quick call or chat with an Advisor should help you choose the best antenna for your system. [ Jeff  Dec 04, 2013 ]  Staff
