About the Mohu Curve 50

Steve Kindig

The power to pull in your favorite TV shows

If you've had limited success receiving over-the-air TV broadcasts, it may be time to replace your old-school antenna with Mohu's smartly engineered Curve 50. Its ultra-thin design uses advanced technology originally developed for the U.S. military. You can conveniently place the Curve 50 on a shelf, countertop, or table near your TV — it works either standing upright or lying flat. Like most antennas, the Curve 50 generally performs best when located fairly high in the room or near a window.

Mohu's signal amplifier extends the Curve 50's range

The Curve 50 includes Mohu's high-performance Jolt antenna amplifier, which uses patent-pending technology to increase reception range while filtering out the RF noise that can harm picture quality. Compared to the unamplified Curve 30, most people find that the Curve 50's antenna/amplifier combo lets them receive more stations, while also producing a clearer picture on stations with less-than-perfect reception. The compact amplifier module connects between the Curve 50 and your TV.

You have a couple of options for powering the amplifier. There's a mini USB port on the amplifier module, which allows you to power it off of any standard USB port on your TV — the USB-to-mini-USB cable is included. The advantage of USB power is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, instead of 24/7. If you don't have an available USB port on your TV, the amplifier also includes a regular AC power adapter, which you can plug into any standard wall outlet.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Mohu Curve 50 Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna is a simple plug-in solution for receiving over-the-air TV broadcasts. The Curve 50 has a clean, designer look, and can be placed on a shelf, countertop, or table. It is designed for users that live within 50 miles of a TV tower.

Amplifier: The Curve 50 has an in-line amplifier that provides a +20dB gain in the incoming signal. Clean Peak filter technology removes unwanted RF signals and boosts the signals that are desired. The amplifier receives power from the included AC power cube and USB cable.

Receiving Pattern: The Curve 50 is a multi-directional antenna, receiving TV broadcast signals equally well from all directions. You may have to experiment with antenna placement to find the best reception. The antenna can stand upright or lay flat.

Connections: The antenna comes with a 16' length of coaxial cable to run from the antenna to the amplifier. The amplifier's coaxial cable plug into the antenna input of the TV. The power to the amplifier runs from the power cube via the supplied USB cable and extension. The antenna should be placed within 6' of an AC power outlet.

Channel Scan: After connecting the antenna to the TV, you should perform a channel scan on the TV to see which stations are being received by the antenna.

Q
can it be hung in the attic?

A
Sure. You need a thin nail to hang it.
ramon  Feb 18, 2020
A
I have mine in the family room but you could hang it in the attic if you have a way to route the cable to your TV. The provided cable is not very long so additional cable may be needed for the attic installation.

Q
I have a Mohu leaf 30 in room on another TV .. I was going to use this Mohu 50 in the next room over )Example one in bedroom and one in office next to each other) would there be a problem with interference between the two antennas? Thanks

Sorry but I don't know. I really do not thing that the Mohu has any advantage over cheaper and simpler antennas.

I have a similiar situation. Before answering your question I went to each room and turned on the same channel on each televisions with no interference whatsoever.
bernard  Apr 06, 2017
A
That should work with no issues. The antennas are receiving information from the off air broadcasters, not sending. The only interference with "over the air" antennas are caused by materials that would block the incoming signals. Such as concrete walls, metal roofs, etc. I hope this helps

Have mutiple antennas in house with no interference from one to another but would recommend terk hdtv1 over mohu even though its a little bulkier

One to another if I was going to get another antenna though I'd go with the turkpoll HDTV one I find it has a stronger reception than the yellow just a little bit ball care

Q
Does this support 4K and which 1080 is this 1080i or 1080p ?
susanne  Sep 28, 2016

A
This is an antenna that receives broadcast TV signals. I don't know what the antenna's exact technical capabilities are but the limiting factor is the resolution with which each TV channel decides to broadcast. Currently, many TV stations broadcast in 1080i, some broadcast in 720p. I don't know of any channels that broadcast in 4K and few, if any, broadcast in 1080p. Whatever the broadcast resolution is for a given channel is the resoution you'll get on screen with this or any other antenna capable of receiving those channel frequencies.

Do you need one for each TV in the house?

I'm getting the Dish Hopper with sling in two weeks. I've heard I can connect with that device to add OTA stations. I live in central Massachusetts and I would love to get the HD channels from the Boston area. Would this be the best atenna for this purpose? Thanks!
emery  Mar 30, 2014
A
This antenna is designed for use with a single TV. If you would like to connect multiple TVs to an antenna, then you may want to look at one of the larger ones. A quick call or chat with an Advisor should help you choose the best antenna for your system.
