Mohu's top-performing antenna

Mohu Sky antenna

Mohu Sky 60 mounted in an attic.

The long-range Sky 60 HDTV antenna is the newest addition to the Mohu family, and offers a fresh take on the conventional rooftop or attic mounted antenna. Like Mohu's other models, the Sky 60 is based on antenna technology developed for the U.S. military. With its compact design, the Sky 60 can be easily mounted in an attic, and for rooftop use, its compact size makes it a more visually appealing alternative to typical large long-range antennas. You can also mount it to an exterior wall wall or under an eave.

The Sky 60 can receive free over-the-air HDTV broadcasts from stations in the UHF and high-band VHF ranges (channels 7-51). It pulls in signals from multiple directions, so you don't have to move it to pick up signals from different TV towers. With a range of 60 miles, the Sky 60 provides crystal-clear picture quality for signals that are simply too weak for lesser antennas to grab.

Mohu's sophisticated signal amplifier

The Sky 60 includes Mohu's high-performance antenna amplifier. Its patent-pending technology increases reception range while filtering out the RF noise that can harm picture quality. The compact amplifier module connects between the Sky 60 antenna and your TV.

You have a couple of options for powering the amplifier. There's a mini USB port on the amplifier module, which allows you to power it off of any standard USB port on your TV — the USB-to-mini-USB cable is included. The advantage of USB power is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, instead of 24/7. If you don't have an available USB port on your TV, the amplifier also includes a regular AC power adapter, which you can plug into any standard wall outlet.

Product Highlights:

  • receives digital and analog TV signals — high-band VHF (channels 7-13) and UHF (channels 14-51)
  • range is 60 miles for UHF, 45 miles for VHF
  • compact design for versatile attic or outdoor mounting
  • universal satellite-style swivel mount (includes arm, bracket and hardware)
  • includes amplifier module with 15 dB gain and CleanPeak™ filtering
  • mini USB jack for AC power — amplifier can be powered via USB port on your TV or via standard AC wall outlet (cable included)
  • 30-ft. detachable coaxial cable included
  • antenna: 21-1/4"W x 10-1/2"H x 1"D; amplifier: 3-1/16"W x 11/16"H x 1-3/8"D
  • weight: 3 lbs.
  • warranty: 1 year

Mohu Sky 60 Amplified TV Antenna

Written By Bobber, Cape girardeau mo on Monday, November 23, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Performed better than expected. Picture quality much better than Direct TV. We weren't sure what to expect and we're a little apprehensive about dropping Direct TV. We live in a rural area and was only expecting 4 or 5 channels. We receive 15 channels. We purchased an 8 way amplified splitter seperately to allow tv in all areas in the house. All we had to do is ask the Crutchfield folks to Recamend an antenna. Couldn't be happier with Crutchfield and our decision

Cons: Non

Didn't help here

Nice looking product that did increase my signal, but not enough to help in my remote location

3.5 actually

Written By Steve, Lake Monticello, VA on Friday, October 16, 2015

When it works it is wonderful. I have an outside mount about 40 feet up and am surrounded by trees about 70-80 feet high. The antenna works well until there is water in the air and on the surrounding leaves. I am less than 20 miles from Charlottesville stations and 45+ miles from Richmond. I pick up Charlottesville, with the above exceptions, but no Richmond. Great service from Crutchfield employee.

Pros: Great picture when atmosphere is clear

Cons: Some interference with wet conditions.

Clear reception

Written By JoshN, Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday, October 11, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a cheap, interior digital antenna, which gave incredibly spotty HD reception on only a handful of channels. Once football season came, I got sick of messing with the rabbit ears, so I purchased the Mohu Sky 60. It took maybe an hour total to install on the roof and get the cable inside and up to the tv. TV detected 37 channels, of which about half are able to be picked up well enough to watch consistently. The signal does go in and out on some days more than others, which can get frustrating; however, I'm watching Sunday Night Football right now with limited reception ridiculous cable or dish expenses ever again! The only thing that really kept me from rating this antenna with a five-star rating was the cost. I think $150 is too much for what you get, even with the included 30 ft. of cable.

Pros: Great reception with no need to adjust antenna; easy set-up.

Cons: Cost.

Purchased for my mother in Roanoke, put in attic on rafter and worked out great.

Pros: simple

Cons: none

Just ok

Written By Kgrace, Mississippi on Saturday, September 26, 2015

Purchased on a different website but wanted to review. 4 stations within 35 miles of my location. I installed in the attic with little success picking up anything. Purchased and installed a pre-amplifier and reception better on 3 of 4 stations. Had to move it outside to get the last one then picked up 4 more for a total of 8 channels. Don't waste your time installing in the attic, just take it outside to get the best result. The included amplifier did nothing to improve reception so go ahead and get a Channel master pre-amplifier if you buy the Mohu 60.

Pros: easy to install outside since it's so light

Cons: amplifier did not help reception for me.

Not bad

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to mess with positioning quite a bit to find the best reception but once found I received all the major networks with great reception. I have this on my sailboat and moved it from top of mast to 1/2 way up to find the groove. I'm now worried about it being weatherproof.

Pros: Great reception with proper positioning.

Cons: Weatherproof?

Antenna OK

Written By mongeau, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August 09, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Antenna worked ok but signal is only good for one TV. At first I mounted it in an attic space with the amplifier right by the antenna and I only got six stations, of which only three came in clear. I move the booster down to the TV and now receive 13 stations of which only about 8 come in clear. The antenna is mounted in the highest part of the house which is about 40 feet away so I had to use a long piece of RG-6 to connect the device which could be part of the problem. For the price you pay I think it should do a little better then what it does.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Low signal strength, expensive for what it does (you could get the same results for less)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seems to be a pretty decent antenna I pull in 10 channels with good quality just a couple of them like to digitize more often then the rest must be the further away stations but over all good product.

Pros: cheap way of getting local tv

Cons: none yet

works great for me

Written By kai, Barbrousville on Wednesday, July 29, 2015

It took 90 minutes to mount this unit on my roof, run the wire through the attic and downstairs, connect cable to tv and set the new tv up. The result is 35 channels, all sharp - and I'm delighted.

I live 20 miles northeast of charlottesville and 100 miles southwest of DC - and get channels from both directions. Having a house on a hilltop probably helps, but I'm surrounded by trees and that doesn't seem to matter.

Pros: Lots of channels, all sharp quick and easy installation relatively inexpensive

Cons: why didn't i think of this sooner?!

Works Perfect!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We hesitated before purchasing an antenna as we are on the edge of the acceptable distance (65 miles) but after reading the reviews, decided to try this one. It was very very easy to assemble. We installed it in the attic in front of a dormer window, connected to the splitter, plugged the amplifier into power and within minutes we had four televisions with excellent displays. Very pleased with the antenna.

Pros: Easy to install, easy to set up.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm disappointed

Cons: I previously purchased another antenna for $39. The reception was only fair so I purchased the Mohu in hopes that I would get better reception, considering how much more it costs and that it claimed twice the capture distance. Granted I used it inside the house (rafters) but it performed no better than the inexpensive antenna. In fact I'm using that one instead. So I can't recommend it.

Easy to install and works great. I installed the antenna in my attic and am able to receive at least 30 channels crisp and clear.

Pros: Easy to install with no worries about direction. Small fits pretty much anywhere.

Cons: Must have the cable ran from the antenna to all TV boxes.

Mohu Sky 60 Amplified TV Antenna

Written By jeff, Avon Indiana on Saturday, May 23, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I finally ditched cable and wanted to find an outside antenna that was the best. I really liked the Mohu Sky 60 and decided to give it a try. I put an RCA indoor antenna on right after I got rid of cable and was able to pick up 38 channels. I mounted the Mohu antenna at the highest point on the roof and was able to pick up 38 channels. That really didn't bother me because the antenna is good for all 5 TVs we have. I am very satisfied with the performance and the looks of this antenna. The picture on the screen is much better than cable and with the cost savings of not having cable it paid for itself in less than 2 months.

Pros: looks good no like a typical antenna. works great did not need the amplifier.

Cons: mounting bracket was too large for the fascia board but was able to bolt the bracket to a piece of 1 3/8 zinc steel punched flat bar and got it mounted.

Nice product

Written By Chris, La Crosse, WI on Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's a nice product. I get 13 channels in, and they look very nice. My only problem was the mounting bracket they supply. It's larger than a 2 by 4, so I simply added a block on top of the 2 by 4 when mounting it in my garage.

Pros: Channels come in very clear.

Cons: Installation required a little modification in my situation.

Mohu 60

Written By Ted J., Itasca, Illinois on Friday, May 01, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sky antenna replaced an indoor UHF/VHF antenna. After mounting the Mohu antenna upside down in the attic we were able to receive channel 2 which was unreceivable, now we can get 56 channels without pixelilation and signal drop out. These problems were caused by airplanes landing at O'Hara field and wind blowing the pine trees close to the house. Now our TV reception is sharper and stable 99% of the time. We used the pre-amplifier powered from the USB port on our TV. We are pleased with the antenna and would recommend it highly.

Pros: Easy to install, the instructions manual was clear and easy to follow. Antenna and all the other components are well made and allowed it to be easily installed and mounted.

There was a glich with the antenna as we installed it and had no reception. Crutchfield was great about the return and advising us on other options. We ended up buying a booster for our existing antenna and are more than pleased with the reception. We went from three stations to 43 stations.

Pros: Great customer service

Cons: Broken antenna

Mohu Sky 60 is Awesome!

Written By JBJ, Fort Campbell, KY on Monday, February 09, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great. I am picking up several channels I didn't expect to get. Based off the map analysis I was a couple miles out of range for the low band VHF channels but was still able to pick them up. Free TV is awesome and the HD pictures are great. Not all channels broadcast HD but the major networks do and the picture is amazing.

Pros: Small, Lightweight, easy to install, great picture, good range, omnidirectional.

Cons: If you are beyond 50 miles (vhf) or 60 miles UHF you will need a bigger antenna but otherwise it works perfect.

Mohu Sky 60 Flaked Out

Written By Kevin, California on Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The writeup for this model sounded great. My location is not exactly ideal for easy TV reception. Though I live in the LA area, my house is partially in the shadow of nearby foothills, that block line-of-sight with Mt Wilson, where the major channel TV transmitters are located.

When I first installed this in the first floor attic, it would not pick up the major TV stations of 2, 4, 5, 7, and 11 in the LA area. When I turned the antenna 90 degrees 2, 4, 5, and 11 came in very clearly, but 7 disappeared completely.

The next day, channel 2 & 5 disappeared. I changed the location of the antenna to the 2nd floor attic, thinking a higher elevation would be better, and only 1 channel tuned in. I changed the angle of the antenna and then my TV couldn't find any channels. After many frustrating adjustments of changing direction of the antenna, cable connections, and still not able to tune in any channels, I tried removing the powered amplifier and my TV found 28 channels. I moved the antenna to an outside upper deck, and was able to increase it to 65 channels. But later that evening, some of those channels were already losing signal strength and were impossible to watch. The next day, channel 2 disappeared.

This antenna may be marketed as multi-directional, it does not work that way at my house. Its a bear to get it aligned to pick up the major TV channels and very frustrating that it cannot keep a consistent signal lock on those channels.

Pros: Small, easy to set up

Cons: Difficult to find optimum antenna orientation, powered amplifier stopped working within a day

Works Great!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in attic in under 30 minutes. I was able to use existing cable installed by cable company. After initial instillation, I had some reception issues on CBS. Even though it is supposed to be multidirectional, I moved it and pointed it in the direction of the towers and now everything is perfect. I cancelled my cable TV a week ago and have not had one dropped signal or any interference at all. Crystal clear picture and am getting all local stations and a few extra. Should have done this years ago.

Pros: Light weight and easy to install for a 64 yr old female.

Cons: so far, none

Nice Antenna

Written By MsDebra, North Carolina on Sunday, November 09, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Opened box and assembled quickly. The hardest part for me was climbing out the window onto the roof. We realized that we couldn't route it through the "whole house" cable network. Of course it worked but we only picked up 6 channels on all TV's (we have 4), when we went with a direct connect to one TV we picked up close to 20. So to get any channels on the TV's upstairs I had to purchase separate antennas.. the downside...more money.

Pros: Ease of use, nice design and no re-positioning after a storm

Cons: Works only with a direct connect to one TV

Does the job

Written By CountryHome, Central Indiana on Thursday, October 30, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We live 40 miles East of Indianapolis in a very rural area. I mounted this in the attic and was able to pick up 49 digital channels, some as far away as Bloomington. After blocking all the duplicates, religious, and At Home Shopping channels, we are left with 30 solid channels. They are very clear and barely any digital glitches except when a heavy rain comes through.

Pros: Works great

Cons: It's too expensive. When you see the actual product, you'll agree that this was probably made by a Chinese manufacturer for $20. Why it retails for $150 is beyond me, but it works and costs the same as one month of DirectTV, so I won't complain.

Mohu Sky60 antenna mounted 30Feet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted the antenna on top of my roof, with clearsight lines to both sides of the roof.. I am approximately 30 miles North of the city of Chicago, and approximately 50 miles south of Milwaukee. After I mounted and did some directional adjustments, I get over 50 channels, Some Chicago, and some 2-3 Milwaukee channels. Antenna does fade in and out on the distant channels. Could probably use more amplification to be effective. still evaluating.

Pros: small size, easy to handle

Cons: signals tend to fade

I am assuming that the little booster failed and now I am back to receiving a couple of channels. Pros: The channels were awesome before it quit working.

Cons: Failed after a couple of weeks.

Decent antenna. Easy to install (attic installation). No reception with only the amp that came with unit. I ended up using the amp that came with the unit between the attenna and splitter in attic and a second amp downstairs at the TV set, and that has worked.

Written By Jeff B, Richland, WA on Saturday, April 19, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Mohu Sky is working great. We pick up all 13 of the local on-air channels, and the 5 that are broadcast in HD are as sharp and stable as they were when received via cable. After the cable company converted to digital-only, which reduced the number of channels in our basic package and upped our monthly fee by $48 (4 TVs x $7 per digital box + $5 per box for HD), we're doing fine with PBS programming and local/national news from the broadcast channels. I'll miss AMC and TBS, but our DVD/streaming service fills that gap nicely. Maybe someday the cable company will figure it out and provide a convenient delivery system at an attractive price, but until then it's free TV for me. The only stumbling block I had during installation was that the splitter serving our 4 TVs is on the external wall of the house where the cable was connected. So that I could connect the antenna amplifier in-line before the splitter, I to had install a weather resistant in-use outlet on that outside wall. The In-use outlet takes its power from an existing outlet on the interior wall. (I had the help of an electrician friend.)

Pros: Great HD signal.

Cons: Required external power for amplifier on the outside wall where cable enters the house via a splitter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This antenna worked fine for about a week, I had it outside on a a 20 ft. mast. No matter what the ads say, this antenna is pretty directional but I live pretty far from the nearest TV transmitters. After a week my signal strength would go from 0 - 75% in the slightest breeze and finally! no signal at all one morning. I think something inside must have failed. Crutchfield refunded my $$ and I purchased a regular big aluminum antenna and it works fine. When it worked, it did a good job, I may have just got a bad one.

Pros: Worked pretty good, received channel 12 from over 50 miles away.

Cons: Failed after 2 weeks.

Not bad

Written By Tom Costa, Marion, Illinois on Monday, March 24, 2014

I think this antenna would be best in an attic and not on a 20'ft mast like I had it on. It worked fine for a week or two and then the signal strength would continuously vary from 0 to 75%. Eventually, after two weeks it quit completely. It has been really windy here and I think something must have broken inside the antenna. It just doesn't seem tough enough to be outside all the time. Crutchfield was GREAT and let me return it, even waiving the shipping. I kept the distribution amp I bought and put up a real VHF/UHF antenna and am very satisfied, customer service with Crutchfield is excellent.

Pros: Works As advertised but it is pretty directional.

Cons: Just isn't built for mounting on a mast in the elements.

It picked up over 30 channels, the HD signal was shocking. Everyone that comes over can't believe its just an HD Antenna responsible for the picture quality.

Pros: Easy to Install, Lightweight, Long Range

Cons: Price, needed masonry screws for brick installation.

Mohu Sky Attic/Outdoor Antenna

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I decided to cut the cable I looked for a HD antenna for over the air channels. Performance not price was the main objective, after all what good is a cheaper antenna if it doesn't work. I also liked the size and that it came with a mounting bracket. I mounted the antenna in my attic (upside down since that was the best way for mounting it) and I was able to get 40 channels. I didn't use the supplied amplifier as I already had a better one I was using to boost the cable signal. I would definitely recommend this product.

Pros: Performance, size, mounting bracket

Cons: mounting screws are cheap so don't use them.

Mohu Sky 60 Amplified TV Antenna

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife must watch the Tennis Channel which is only available on a sports tier plan with the accompanying extra costs that go with the pyramid of plans offered by Cable. This extra charge was vexing because we watch very little TV. I read about OTA's, especially the Mohu brand. I opted for the "Sky" (instead of the Sheaf) to mount in my attic. All the while, as I mounted (easily done) the antenna I was chuckling aloud, muttering that this was "old technology" and the result would be ghosts (literally) of the past on the screen. Well I was more than surprised when I went downstairs to the TV. The search for channels was up to 25% and yet there were no channels received. Then it started. I got 25 channels by 75% and a total of 37 channels when the scanning was 100% complete! The definition was identical to my CABLE HDTV reception. My wife agreed that the picture was excellent with no squirms, squiggles, nor ghosts. The bad news was that of the 25 channels (we found 12 duplicates) none of them included ESPN which was the alternate channel on which to watch Tennis matches. So back it went to Crutchfield where the return was made so easy with their UPS prepaid return address that was obtained on line. My wife suggested we keep the antenna installed in case ESPN became available. Well of course ESPN did become available two weeks after I returned The Sky antenna. I am not miffed because the product is easily installed and of rugged quality. I am delighted.

Pros: Solid construction and made in the USA. Crystal clear HD reception -you cannot distinguish between OTA and cable reception. Will no longer have to pay for 30 music other unwanted channels.

Cons: I can forsee no problems due to the heft and quality of the "Sky". And I am still impressed with the "Made in the USA" sticker.

Significant improvement over previous antenna

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was using a Mohu Leaf antenna for OTA reception. It was an improvement over another retailer's indoor amplified antenna. But the new Mohu Sky is even better than their Leaf. All the hardware needed to mount it in my attic was in the box including a good 30-foot length of small diameter coax cable which was easy to snake through the stud wall behind the TV.

The Sky improved my signal strengths about 10-20% across all the OTA channels I receive. That was definitely worth it.

Pros: Significant increase in signal strengths Easy to install in attic High quality mounting hardware included Generous return period to try it out

Cons: None

Product Research

Indoor/Outdoor Antenna: Weighing in at only 3lbs, the Sky HDTV 60 indoor/outdoor antenna is a powerful, amplified TV antenna solution that was developed from research for the United States military.

Amplifier w/ Clean Peak Filter Technology: The included digital amplifier with Clean Peak Filter Technology is designed to amplify TV stations and filter out any RF signals that can hinder picture quality. The digital amplifier allows you to pull in a clearer picture, more stations, and increase overall performance.

USB/AC Powered: The SKY HDTV 60 antenna's digital amplifier is powered via an integrated USB cable, which allows you to power the amplifier using an open USB port on the back of your TV. The advantage of doing so is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, eliminating parasitic power consumption when the amplifier isn't needed. If you do not have an open USB port on the back of your TV, the SKY HDTV 60 also includes a power cube that will enable you to power the amplifier using any standard AC wall outlet.

60 Mile Range:  The SKY HDTV 60 antenna performs best within 60 miles (UHF) and 45 miles (VHF) of transmission towers. Go here and enter in your zip-code to find out which free over-the-air HDTV channels are available in your area.

Multi-Directional: The Sky HDTV 60 antenna is multidirectional and does not have to be constantly readjusted for optimal signal strength. Because the Mohu SKY HDTV 60 is multi-direction, there is no need to point the antenna in any particular direction.

Mounting Options: The Sky HDTV 60 antenna is designed to be mounted in either your attic or on the outside of your house, preferably on the roof. Most users will receive the best signal the higher they mount the antenna. A mounting bracket is included. The antenna should be positioned vertically (not horizontally).

30' RF-Coax Cable: The Mohu Sky HDTV 60 includes a 30' detachable RG59-coaxial cable.
