Keep track of Fido wherever he may roam

When it comes to pets, out of sight is definitely not out of mind. Now you can keep track of your canine companions with the PocketFinder Pet GPS Locator. This compact device is about the size of a cookie, so it fits easily onto your dog's collar with the included nylon clip-on case. The locator weighs a mere 1.4 oz., but its waterproof, impact-resistant plastic shell stands up to everyday wear and tear. The rechargeable battery lasts up to one week on a single charge, with adjustable settings to extend battery life.

PocketFinder Pet GPS Locator on collar

The PocketFinder Pet GPS Locator's nylon holder secures the device to Crutchfield dog Nina's collar.

PocketFinder includes a rugged ballistic nylon device holder that attaches to your dog's collar two different ways for maximum comfort without danger of tearing or catching on brush or low-hanging branches. The Pet GPS Locator is recommended for dogs 20 pounds and heavier.

Real-time updates

The PocketFinder uses GPS technology to report and record your pet's location, direction, speed and travel history. The interface makes it easy to set geo-fence zones, so it's especially helpful when you want to know when your dog has escaped your property. You can also set speed limit warnings to alert you that Rover's been picked up by a moving vehicle. The locator will send email or text alerts to your smartphone, tablet, or computer so you'll instantly be aware of boundary exits and speed limit violations

Easy to use — anywhere

You can track your devices and manage your account via the PocketFinder website or the free mobile app for your tablet or smartphone. The web and app interfaces make it easy to keep up with all of your pets on one account. A monthly subscription fee of $12.95 is needed to access PocketFinder features in the U.S. and Canada. You'll need to set up an account online, but no contracts are required.

Know what you're buying.

The device checks in with the satellite to get a location of itself and puts it on the map. Know about its battery power management. If you set the device on "track mode" it will "locate" or "check in" every 2 minutes and use up more power. There are different "power management" choices. For example I have it set to check in every 6 hours which means the device lasts about week before it needs to be charged. But if it were to move out of its zone, then move back in its zone within the 6 hours, I wouldn't know it moved. That power management is OK for me since I use it to track our rental machine and not pets. Get used to using the device on something less important before using it on pets. That way you can learn about the Pocket Finder "Dashboard" alerts, notifications, zones, speed, google maps, power management. Know that there is a monthly fee.

Pros: Able to find itself anywhere in the world and display it on the map with approximate address. Map shows time it "checked in" and battery power. Helpful product support.

Cons: Accuracy sometimes off about 50 feet. Depending on power management and time you log on the map, the device may not display its current position but the position it was in the last time it "checked in" with the satellite. Will not get a zone alert notification until the preset check in time.

Overview: The Pocketfinder GPS Pet Locator, from Location Based Technology (LBT), is a GPS tracking device that provides real-time location information for your pet. It lets you know where your pet is at any time through the Pocketfinder website or on your smartphone through a free mobile app.

Usage: The waterproof device is made of military-grade plastics, and is able to withstand most any condition. It is designed to be attached to your pet's collar or harness, using the included clip-on case. The rubberized case further protects the unit from the elements for better reliability and longer life. The unit is small and light (1.4 ounces), and is ideal for pets 20 pounds and larger.

How It Works: The GPS Pet Locator utilizes the latest in Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology. Motion sensors are used to provide location updates every 1, 3, or 5 minutes (you select the interval), and is accurate to within 10 feet. The device is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, and comes with a charging base. Typically, a charge lasts 3-4 days. The location, heading, and speed data can be pinpointed on Google Premier mapping, available on the Pocketfinder website, or on a free mobile app on iOS, Blackberry, and Android devices.

Advanced Features: The Pocketfinder Personal GPS Locator has the following features:

  • Geo-Fence: You can set up an unlimited number of geo-fence zones, such as your home, yard, neighborhood, park, or office. You will receive alerts when your pet enters the zone, exits the zone, or both.
  • Speed Limits: You can set a speed limit for the device. If your pet suddenly starts moving faster than it should be, you will receive an alert.
  • Alerts: Alerts can be received via email, SMS (text message), or push notifications.
  • History: You can view up to 60 days of detailed location history

Your Account: A contract-free subscription is required (currently $12.95 per month) for each device. The plan includes unlimited location lookups and emergency contacts, as well as email alerts, SMS (text message) alerts, iOS push notifications, access to the device's 60-day history, unlimited zones and speed alerts, and storage for medical and emergency information and photos. The subscription covers the United States and Canada. International coverage is also available. Multiple devices can be managed in one account using the website or mobile apps.
