You're tired of your car's stock radio, but you don't want to lose the convenience of your steering wheel audio controls. iDatalink's Maestro ADS-MSW adapter allows you to retain those controls when you install a new car stereo in a wide range of vehicles. It's compatible with over 1700 vehicles made after 1998, and it'll work with just about any brand of aftermarket stereo, including Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Eclipse, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, Visteon, and Valor.
You can install the ADS-MSW yourself if you have experience installing car audio gear — keep in mind that you'll have to splice into your vehicle's wiring and solder connections. Before installing, you'll program the adapter at the iDatalink site to work with your particular vehicle and car stereo. (Note: you'll need a Windows-based computer, see Details.) Using the intuitive web programming interface, each factory button can be assigned a specific radio function. If your vehicle isn't covered, the Maestro is the only steering wheel adapter that allows you to program your car using a simple step-by-step web procedure.
And here's a great feature that's unique to this adapter — you can also choose and assign a secondary "press and hold" radio function to each factory button, effectively doubling what can be controlled. For example, touch the "Volume Up" button, and it'll turn up the music. Hold down the "Volume Up" button, and you can switch on the loudness on your car stereo. Warranty: 1 year.

Many people aren't thrilled with the sound of their car's factory radio, but don't want to replace it because they'll lose those convenient audio controls on the steering wheel. For most vehicles, you can purchase an adapter that allows you to use those controls to run a new car stereo, so now you can have great sound and convenience too. Even cooler, if your new stereo has iPod controls, you can use your steering wheel controls to run your iPod.
I put this into a 2006 Honda CR-V, coupled with a Pioneer stereo.
It comes well packaged, and the wiring instructions are fairly easily figured out.
Flashing the firmware is easy and pretty quick.
When installing into the car, make sure you can still get to it or remove it easily, in case you have to remap the button functions (ie: some of them don't act the way you thought they would). I had given my buttons 2 functions each, and they would have none of it. I had to yank it out and reflash 3 times before the buttons would function as desired, and one of them still balks half the time.
I would try out a different adapter, but for the time being, I can deal with reaching all 2 feet to the stereo to change the radio band.
FWIW, I also put one of these into a friend's 2004 Pilot, and it worked perfectly from the get-go, so there's that.
Product works as advertised....great steering wheel control interface device. Product requires flashing a module for your vehicle...which requires product registration and a return email...and a log on to access flash SW...which doesn't work...therefore to cant log on an flash the module for your vehicle. Cost me three hours to get the ability to flash my module...which after that...it worked fine.
Pros: Crutchfield staff had the email address of the one gent to allow the flash process to proceed.

So I get this, the instructions say to go to your computer and plug it in, go to their website and flash the thing, that worked great! Now, the instructions do not really make it clear that the piece you're splicing into is on the CAR side, not the harness side so the pinouts were a bit confusing but once I called Crutchfield tech support they ironed it all out for me and install was cake. In order to reprogram the module to do different things, like change the hold volume button to do a different function, you must unplug it from your car, plug into your computer then reflash the module, kind of a pain.

Does what it's supposed to do. If you have a 2015 Subaru Forester and want to retain your steering wheel controls, this will do the trick. I was skeptical at first because Crutchfield warned that it would not work for my application. I called to confirm with the peoples at Maestro. The technician told me that it would work, just to program it as if my ride is a 2014. They just have not updated their database yet. Ten bucks cheaper than the PAC unit. The PAC unit just seemed kind of janky.

Even though I just installed it, I love it. It does what I wanted and install is 1000x easier then PAC. I used the small posi-tap to install this on my Clarion NX404 in my 2006 Miata base model that did not have radio controls. I bought the switches from a wrecked Miata and used them (the cruise control also works from that FYI). I work at a dealership as a salesperson and drive a lot of new cars and myself get a new car every 2 or 3 years, the Miata is my track/show car but now it has convenience features.

The last time I installed an aftermarket radio, I just accepted the fact that I would loose steering wheel controls. This time around this nifty device was available. The directions made it pretty straight forward to program and connect. The controls are just as they were with the factory head unit. I'm completely satisfied with this product.
Pros: Keeps the same controls the factory deck had.
Cons: I only wish it were easier to reprogram if needed. I found that I could have programmed the "ok google" function in place of siri, but do not feel like taking the dash apart again just for one button.
Seemed difficult at first...re-read the instructions a few times and realized which wires connected where. I was over thinking the install believing it had to be more complicated than it actually was.

Easy to program and flash for my 2009 Sonata. I did not like that I had to cut wires and splice them together rather than having a harness connector. I was told that was because it works off resistance and the pins may not have a good enough connection. I would have preferred to have an option to buy pins to install in the metra harness. But it works. That's the bottom line. Instructions could have been a little more detailed, but after some thought, I figured it out.
I first opened this thing up expecting to find wiring diagrams. Instead I had two wiring harnesses and a book telling me to go to the interwebs. I followed the instructions which was easy enough, programmed it for my 2007 Silverado, updated the firmware, printed out my wiring schematic and installed it. It's really easy to do and it works amazingly well.
Everything works as promised. I would recommend this to a friend. Customer service was a big help.

This started off great. I went to the web site, identified my car, my steering wheel, my new radio and flashed the device. I downloaded the instructions customized for my exact config. That was the easy part. What turned this into a month long installation was that the pinning was transposed. The numbering of the pins were a mirror image of the real pins - and the colors were just close enough that I thought I was cutting the right wires. After numerous calls to support at Crutchfield (they deserve a medal) they figured out what I had done. I had barely enough wire to repair what I had done, but it seems to have worked, and now the system is functional.
Oh, and they completely left out the fact that a couple of wires needed to be connected as well.
Granted, the mistake was mine and it all makes sense "after." A professional installer probably would have completed it in a couple of hours. Instead, mine was a 4 day extravaganza spread over a month.

It works great. Installed it in my 2013 Chevy Silverado with a Kenwood stereo. Need to mess with it a little and adjust the settings but all in all it works really well. I installed it with the mini USB cord plugged in and ran that cable to my glove box so I can reprogram as needed. I did lose all blue tooth function and Onstar functions from steering wheel controls. Not sure if I can get them back when I reprogram.

I installed this unit with a new Kenwood head unit. It's in and functions great but it was a little tricky to install. You program according to your vehicle info on a PC which is pretty easy. However, for my install I had to cut to wires from the factory harness and connect them to the Maestro. Wasn't exactly clear in the directions. Everything went fine once I called and they explained that part to me. Otherwise, it's great.
I used this unit with an Alpine receiver/player/GPS unit. Clear instructions, easy to program and install. I really liked the additional functionality that the unit provided to the factory steering wheel controls.

as the sales rep mentioned, this one is a little more expensive and involves a bit more work on the installation, but it's still a snap and allows you to program two functions for each steering wheel button, which is handy. i used the 2nd functions for answering hands free calls and muting audio.
Wanting to keep my steering wheel controls on my 2005 Nissan Altima, read the reviews at the time so I was able to get a heads up as to what to expect. Must agree with the other posts on the directions given with the unit. Spent small amount of time as to what the directions were trying to explain about the hook-ups and the connection as illustrated. Called customer service line and found them to be helpful and surprisingly understanding and patient. Had the answers needed for my installed in minutes. Working as expected in the same amount of time. Idatalink maestro has a very good product and would not hesitate to purchase again. The download from the website to the unit for programming was quick and easy.

OK So I will admit that I am not up to date on much of today's technology so I am fairly easily impressed. I had this installed in my 2010 Ford Fusion to control my Pioneer avh-x26600b head unit. It works perfectly. I love the fact that I was able to choose a second function for each control on my steering wheel though the options are somewhat limited with this head unit. I know there are more expensive controllers out there but this one was just what I needed.
The Datalink Maestro worked perfectly with my commuter KIA Rio and the Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS. The setup was fast and easy using they're online setup. Customizable and all the features I needed.

This worked great. Like other said the instructions are a little short, and in my case the 2 wires I was to splice where incorrect in their paperwork but I have access to alldata repair and found the correct wires. Other than that installation was easy and it worked on first try. Highly recommended.

This module was very easy to install using the maestro install guide. Flashing the module is very straightforward, using drop down menus for your exact vehicle and radio brand and model. I love the flexibility of being able to assign certain control to buttons based on what you want your steering wheel to do. Would definitely buy again. I know how easy it is to reflash because when I first installed this, I hooked it up to a Pioneer DD receiver, and upgraded to a Kenwood DDX771. Love it, and it works very well with this steering wheel module. Also, the response time for the buttons is the closest to factory I've seen of any aftermarket interfaces.

This maestro does exactly what it says. The wiring instructions and diagrams provided are not very clear. Once again called Crutchfield tech-support and they were wonderful. It really was an easy install and programming and works just like my original steering wheel controls did

I bought this to work with a Kenwood Excelon 491 HD head unit. It was easy to program and works perfectly with the head unit. All functions on the steering wheel were used and worked. I even have additional functions now, because you can program the idatalink. If you are a novice, you better study up on how to install this though. I am not a professional installer, but I was able to do this.

I bought this unit to supplement the Pioneer DEH-X4600BT head unit I bought at the same time for my 2008 Hyundai Azera Limited. I didn't want to lose the controls on my steering wheel and after asking an agent at Crutchfield which would be the easiest unit to install, he recommended this unit. I have to say, I'm totally amazed. With the other units you have to program them manually and there is some soldering of wires involved. With the iDatalink Maetro, a couple of splices and wire connectors were all that were needed to get things working. I also like that all I had to do was connect the darned thing to a computer, input my car's information and the head unit I was attaching it to and it programmed itself. I will say that the downloaded instruction sheet from iDatalink is practically garbage. It got me halfway, but I'm glad that Crutchfield's Tech support was able to help and made the install so easy.

This teeny little box works perfectly between my new Clarion CX501 and the factory-installed steering wheel controls on my 2008 Honda Pilot. Love that you can plug it into a computer and customize the actions for the buttons, including new "press and hold" functions. Only downside was that the installation instructions were pretty bad. Wanted me to attach wires to wires that didn't exist, didn't tell me what other wires were for. If you are a pro at this, might not be a problem, but as a novice, I was happy that I got it to work without blowing up the car.

After getting on the web site, was easy to program for my particular vehicle. However, the instructions do not tell you which plug is no. "A",( have a '04 Chevy Avalanche). Was a little scared of going to the wrong plug and mess something up. So I haven't installed it.

Unit was installed in a 2005 Lexus RX330. I can only give this product 4 stars only because of the lack of instructions. In the box was the module and the wiring, thats it. I had read the other reviews on this product here on the Crutchfield so I did have a little bit of an idea what was in store though, so I went straight to the website to program the module and get the wiring instructions. Programming the module was a snap, and I like the idea of being able to program the functions of the steering wheel controls with clicking simple drop down boxes on the website. Wiring went a lot easier than I thought it would. I took the advice I saw here regarding soldering the connections so everything worked the first time I turned on the stereo, an Alpine IVE530 so no issues other than the wires are a bit tricky to strip cause they're so small. The lights on the steering wheel even work again now. Very happy now that everything is hooked up. I've been fooling around with car audio for 20+ years so installation for me was pretty easy, but a novice might want to get a shop to install this.

I've tried a few different steering wheel control adapters from Crutchfield and this is by far the easiest and best one out there! There's no flipping switches or pressing buttons within a certain amount of time to program the adapter. Just log on, pick your car/options and setup what switches do what. Then download the program into the adapter and that's it!! You can also unplug it easily if you wish to change the settings. Plus, unlike other adapters, it will not lose it's settings if you lose power. If you want your steering wheel controls back, this adapter is the one to get!

I previously installed a Pioneer Avic Z-140BH in a 2003 Mercury Marauder and used a Metra ASWC-1 for the steering wheel controls. I had problem after problem with this unit forgetting the "memory" settings and not working or working as it shouldn't (volume up going down and the opposite). Metra was unwilling to help at all with my bad unit, so I decided to try another company. This unit shows it worked, but on purchase it said it didn't. So I bought it slightly hesitant. However upon arrival, I hooked it up to computer via USB and went on the Maestro website. Just a few extremely easy clicks later and my unit was programmed not only for "push" operation but also "push and hold", doubling the amount of button functions (this is an awesome feature). It wired up the exact same way as the Metra, but the install instructions were a million times better. Have had it for 3 weeks now, no problems, works great!

This is the best working and easiest to program steering wheel control adapter I have used and installed. Crutchfield says this adapter was not recommended for my 2010 Subaru WRX, but Idatalink said it would so I tried it anyway and it works absolutely flawlessly. It was very easy to install in the vehicle and very easy to program via the computer and website from the manufacturer.

I'm giving this a so-so review only because of the instructions. The actual wiring diagram is ok, the button programming, for get it... Better flashing the unit from the web site. You need an account, verify email address, promise your first born male etc.. but do the flash - forget the button programming.
If I can stress one thing its solder the wires. Some of the functions work on resistance. I initially used crimp connectors and spend two days wondering why it didn't work. I thought it was defective. I called the tech support and went over everything and they recommended I solder the wires. I did and bingo - works like a charm.
Steering wheel Button configuration is a great feature (during the configuration flash). You can program a task for button press and another for button hold during the PC (yes PC, not mac) unit configuration flash. Very nice feature.
They need to ditch the stand alone configuration (using a single button and some illustrations) and just rely on the flash configuration along with the need to solder the wires. If you do that its a great unit!

Used this to connect steering wheel controls in Infiniti G35 to new JVC deck, and love the result. The integration is one of those "could probably live without it" things when you install a new car stereo, but going the extra mile to keep the steering wheel controls really made the project a total success.
You're required to go online for specific wiring instructions and to flash the unit via USB to work with your car and use the settings you choose. For some reason it took several tries on different computers to get the client downloaded and running, but after that, the process was smooth. Really liked the pull-down menus for assigning functions to each button, including the flexibility to assign different ones for press-and-hold. As with most aftermarket jobs like this, the documentation as only a starting point, and you have to do some exploration on your own in terms of finding wires, etc. My wheel controls cam to the dash in their own harness, so that made it easy to ID it by wire color, although I needed one call to Crutchfield to clarify that one wire from the car would go unused. Other than that, install was straightforward.
One thing I did that works beautifully: I programmed press-and-hold on the "power" button to activate voice dial... which on the JVC, brings up Siri on my iPhone5 via the Bluetooth. So now can do everything on my phone that Siri can--call out, navigate, select music--100% hands free. Pretty cool.

Worked perfectly in an '06 HHR. If using this in conjunction with the PAC adapter, does require one customization to the adapter harness that's not documented. Ability to customize each button's commands for both momentary and long press is a big plus.

Odds are you won't need to reprogram Maestro to work with a different head unit. If it's part of a package you buy with a head unit from Crutchfield, it's plug and play and forget it.
BUT, if you ever do replace a head unit, reprogramming through their website is a pain in the back seat. It's PC only, and needs a data USB connector. Even then, the web interface (and operating manual) have english-as-a-second-langauge instructions. Once you've downloaded the drivers, found the right data cable, muddled through the interface and reinstalled the unit, it will work just fine. Also, I think it's somewhat overpriced, but not stupidly so.

This thing works awesome. I replaced the factory Rockford MMCS on my Mitsubishi with a Kenwood nav unit and used this to retain factory steering wheel control. One thing that isn't clear and may save you frustration is that the MMCS requires the Mito harness adapter even if not hooking up to the factory amp. It saves you from cutting a ton of wires. When you hookup the Mito, make sure to cut the 2 steering control wires going to their adapter box and feed them into the iDatalink. I originally just put a t-splice inline and that caused problems for the Maestro.
The other positive is that I programmed my steering controls to do more than the factory did! I also fixed Mitsubishi's backward way of moving through track listings on the stereo. This was all done with their website and selecting what I wanted my steering wheel buttons to do. Piece of cake.

Cons: Hasn't made me breakfast in bed. iDatalink's website firmware download requires Internet Explorer.
Super easy to install and to program. One wire hook up on my '04 Honda and power and ground. Great features let you program the buttons to do a variety of functions. You can even program them to do more than one function.

Overall, this did the job of making the stock steering wheel controls of my 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe work with my new JVC KW-R900BT headunit. My only complaint is that it took two tries to program it and the instructions and website could benefit from a little more detail and directions. Overall, it worked as expected after the second try.

Installed this in my son's 2003 Infiniti G35. This was a little intimidating at first. A couple calls to Tech Support and we figured out how everything was supposed to be hooked up. We did not have the complete instructions so didn't realize we had to flash the system. The worst part was that we needed a Windows computer to flash the system (we only have Apple products at home). I quick trip to the apartment's business center and five minutes to flash the system and we were up and running. I gave 5 stars because the systems works as advertised and wasn't too hard to install once we found the instructions.

im told this is an excellent product, more-so on certain make vehicles than others. my experience with it, not so much. everything i read on it appeared great, but the unit i received evidently was faulty. after try and try again trouble shooting with tech support i returned the unit and got the Axxess ASWC-1 which didn't have to programmed via pc, plugged in and worked correctly within 5 min from install to working.

Some background, I installed this in a 2011 Kia Sorento attached to a Kenwood DNN990HD. This setup was the third such attempt at a nav unit install in this vehicle. I tried a Clarion NX702 and a Pioneer AVIC Z150BH, both of which tied to the Metra ASWC for steering wheel input. I followed the install directions to a T, soldered all my connections for clean signal input, and still spent hours programming and reprogramming the ASWC to only have it still not working correctly. Some buttons would work but other wouldn't. Finally I gave up, returned the two stereos (didn't like the interfaces) and threw the ASWC in my parts box. I was determined there had to be a better way.
Enter the Maestro SW. I purchased this along with the Kenwood in hopes I would finally find something I could tolerate. Before I even tried the install I plugged the Maestro into my laptop, logged into the idatalink website and in less than 5 minutes flashed the module. Programming was super easy, click the button I want to program on the image of my actual steering wheel (on the idatalink website already), then select the function I want to assign. Note you can also assign a secondary function if you hold the button which is handy. Once my selections were made it loads them on the module and you're set to install. Sure enough, once I had everything hooked up and ready for my first test, the Maestro worked without a hitch. So much easier, I highly recommend this puppy over the ASWC.

Once you get it, remarkably easy installation process to install.
Only a couple of wires tied into the Honda OEM radio harness. Identified by color (just like painting by numbers). Two step process on mfgr's website, downloading the appropriate installation diagrams (and I mean diagrams as in "IKEA-like") and then once the correct steering wheel buttons are identified, downloading the wiring diagram.
Only four stars because the website and instructions are confusing.

Cons: To d/l the plugin, remember that it's maestro.idatalink.com and not www.idatalink.com. Of course both pages look similar so I couldn't find the proper version (HINT: look at the top left of the webpage). It's not apparent, but you don't have to follow all the instructions.
Would not work in my car. Thanks to the great Tech Support they exchanged it with a one that would.

The first unit I received was DOA. At forst I thought I was doing somerhing wrong because the instructions (have to download from idatalink's website) are quite poor. After talking to crutchfield tech support, I got a replacement unit that worked perfectly as advertised. The unit is very small and easy to wire up as soon as you figure out what the instructions are actually trying to tell you. I installed this in my 2010 Mazda 5 to keep the steering wheel remote. The remote only has six buttons so the press and hold for secondary feature is awesome with my new sony headunit. If the instructions were easier to use and the first unit I got didn't make me waste a week of my time, this would be a five star product.

I tried installing this unit (which by the way comes with 0 instructions) and it did not work. I spent hours on line looking for ways and couldn't find anything. I finally took it to a audio installer who told me that their is a propitiatory cable that is needed to flash this until. Without it it would not work.

No instructions in the box. The web site is horrible for instructions. You can flash it for your car, but I could find not files to do so. I just reach over to the radio or use the remote.

I'm not too much of a fan of 3rd party products, they never seem to work right. This product was amazing and so easy to install. The fact that they made it so you can flash the setting from your computer BEFORE installing it made it so much easier and quick. It actually made made Pioneer stereo do things it could do before, which is a plus. I made an error at the beginning and that was just use wire splicers. It caused the stereo to freak out when hit bumps. I went back and did it right, which is soldering the wires, bam, problem solved.
Pros: Being able to flash your setting through a USB to the unit. Second, for my truck, it was only 3 wires to hook up. Works flawless.
Cons: The website for getting the instructions was a slight pain
Works as promised, and being able to flash-program before installation saves a lot of time. Wiring instructions left something to be desired, but call-in Crutchfield support had better information, answered right away, and reinforced why I buy all my electronics from them.

Absolutely horrible product. Came with no directions and could not get it to work. I purchased a unit that automatically "sensed" my vehicles' controls from a local merchant and was installed in mere minutes. Stay away from this.
Cons: Did not work; cumbersome; could not download the proper software fro my vehicle, never did get it to work after 23 hours of messing with it. Gave up and went to a local install it shop and paid 1/2 the price.
Don't be intimidated by having to splice into your existing wires and "flashing" this unit. It's all very easy!! I used my existing, standard steering wheel controls so I didn't get in to special programming of the buttons but everything else went very smooth. I used a couple Velcro strips to attach this to the top of my radio. All works great!

I recently replaced the factory head unit in my Ford Explorer with my favorite car stereo ever, the Alpine CDA-117. I knew that doing this would eliminate the factory steering wheel radio controls. The Maestro unit let me regain this awesome feature. I chose this unit because of the feature that enables each button to perform 2 functions. I don't have it set up exactly the way I want it yet, but it is about 85% with no manual programming. The unit performs as stated. The instructions seem to be a little vague, actually making installation seem harder than it really is.
Pros: Allowed me to retain the use of my steering wheel controls. Simple installation.
Cons: Instructions are a little vague, looks like everything is translated from French. The price for this item is considerably higher than comparable units by other manufactureers.
The steering wheel control component was as advertised, very easy to install, and to program for my vehicle.
Pros: I was not only able to use the buttons on my steering wheel for their original function, but I was able to override the up and down volume when held in to answer and hang up the bluetooth phone which is great.
Cons: I tried to program the middle button on hold to mute the radio. And although I appear to have programmed right, it doesn't mute right when pressed. I haven't had a change to troubleshoot this piece more as it would require me to remove the whole radio again to get the Maestro out to debug.
Works for the most part, some functions still are hit and miss. My "hang up" button on the steering wheel now changes the modes instead. I need to tweak the programming I think. The wiring harness was good but the instructions were a little vague. Called tech support on the weekend to resolve the issue.

Great product. Easy to use, even worked on my radio which is an older model. We had to use a code for a more updated model so not all the functions worked properly.

I appreciate Crutchfield's recommendation of this product. The setup was absolutely hassle free and it worked on the first power up.

Cons: The organization of the instructions was created by an alien culture...but decipherable. Finding the correct connector on my OEM stereo was a tiny hurdle that was quickly overcome with daylight and not being color blind.
I had lived without my controls all the time I had my Pioneer. When I replaced it I wanted to give a control adapter a try. I liked the look of the Maestro and its reviews, so I went with it even though it was a little higher. First, I should have read more closely. I went online, and went through the steps to update the firmware. Then , after I installed it, I tried to program it. BIg mistake! I was getting no where and very frustrated. So I quit for the night, and went over the online page again. Oops! When you update the firmware, the unit is programmed! Also, in reading the wiring instructions I noticed that you should connect the wire on pin one, OR the plug the mini jack into the aux port. I had done both! Next morning, after I adjusted the wiring, and re-flashed the unit it worked the first time EXACTLY as advertised! sweet and simple!
Pros: I got my controls back! Looks like it works with a huge number os cars and stereos. Almost too simple to install.
Cons: I would have understood this a lot faster if the web site asked you to program the unit rather than updating the firmware.
Overall a excellent choice for a steering wheel control adapter. It's a little confusing first setting up, programming, & wiring, but once you get past that it's as easy as using your factory steering wheel controls. I have all my factory steering wheel settings plus fast forward & rewind (didn't have factory) which I use a lot. You can also reprogram any button with a different suggested function if you want to. It's a bit more expensive than the rest, but I think it's worth it. This or any steering wheel control adapter is worth it to me because you can use the stereo while keeping your hands on the wheel & your eyes on the road more which is a safety feature so your less likely to get in an accident.

I waited for this item to come out, as it was the first that said it was programmable. I wanted to be able to have ALL of my steering wheel buttons work with my new Kenwood headunit. The website did not have a flash for my specific application, but I was successfully able to program it myself. Very trick item if you are tech savvy.
Pros: Works as advertised, ALL of my steering wheel buttons on my 12 Kia Forte Koup SX work with my Kenwood X996 unit. Plus, the push to hold feature effectively doubles the number of functions possible.
Cons: Website and instructions not very clear. If you need to program yourself, NOT for the faint of heart.
Blows Axxess ASWC right out of the water. Very easy to program. USB connection to the PC and through web interface, you get to choose your car's make, model, steering wheel variation, and your aftermarket head unit. It flashes firmware to the unit over the web and generates a PDF that shows the wiring connection that applies to the specific car. In case you needed extra functionality, you could setup the device as a custom wheel interface, then you can program additional functions from steering wheel kep presses. You could even program long presses to do other.commands.

Purchased this product to operate an AVIC X940BT. Prior to installing it, I updated the firmware to the latest version on the iDatalink website - and I am glad I thought to do that because I was able to perform all the programming automatically with the firmware update just by entering my vehicle info into the website configuration utility. This made the installation very easy, everything worked perfectly at initial start-up with no extra effort needed by me to get it to work. IDatalink also had exact wiring info for my vehicle on their website, which also made the installation ALOT easier. Also, this product offers full A2DP function including track skip which apparently not all SW controllers do with my head unit. Finally, no detectable time lag between SW button pres and radio response. Just like the OEM system. This system also has a dual-function capability for press and hold versus momentary press and release. This can also be programmed at the mfg. website, with several options. So far I have not used these functions but it is nice to know the capability exists.
Pros: Does everything well. Great mfg. support. Superior unit.
Cons: None that I can see. It does cost more than the others but that small expense is well justified by the great mfg. support, web programming, great function overall, etc.
Device works well, but website does not! It took me 30 minutes to find the correct download and setup the device driver on my computer.
Installed this in a 2007 Honda Odyssey coupling with Pioneer's new AVH-X3500BHS. I had initially tried the Axxess ASWC, but for some reason, I could never get it to work with my car/stereo combination even after flashing to the latest software. But the iDataLink Maestro worked like a charm. I flashed the module to the correct firmware with the supplied USB cable and an easy, intuitive PC interface. I downloaded the instruction sheet based on my car and stereo model from iDatalink's website and had to splice/connect 4 wires (simpler than it sounds). And that was it. In addition to the standard functions I used to have, I now have Bluetooth and additional audio functions added, including Mute. Highly impressed with this product.
Pros: As close to a plug 'n play as you can get with these products. Easy, simple instructions (downloaded). Weblink application on the iDataLink website is pretty neat.
Cons: Cannot use the Preset/Seek function with iPhone or Pandora (but I was told it may be a limitation of the stereo, not the module).

This was a breeze to use. Programmed it on my computer and then connected it. Worked the first time with no issues. Allows second functions to be assigned to factory buttons which is a great feature.

I have used pac and metra in the past and have always had problems. The Maestro SW works perfect the first time. Programming on the computer was so easy and the instructions were very clear and there is no learning in the car. And you can set each button to do two things. Dear Pac and Metra and Pac, Goodbye

This thing works great, but came with no instructions what so ever. You have to go to the website and download them. And then they were not very good. I even called crutchfield and they could not figure it out either. The wire that hooks to BCM under the dash was wrong in the instructions. I had to just test wires until I found the right one. other than that the thing works great.

I ordered the Maestro in conjuncion with a JVC navigation radio for my 2008 Nissan altima so i could retain my factory radio controls on my steering wheel. i talked to Tech support at I datalink snd they said my configuration would work. And it does exactly as i programed it to do which was easy.

Super easy to install- hook the module up to your computer, flash the programming, splice 3 to 7 wires (depending on your vehicle), and you are good to go! The nice thing is you can program additional commands to your steering wheel buttons based on if the button is pressed and released or if it is held down. Money well spent!

I do not think so if you are using safari. the website only works for internet explorer, I have windows 10 and google chrome, windows new Edge broswer do not work, you need to use internet explorer, once its flashed for a car, it is a nightmare to reflash. [ justin Nov 23, 2015 ]

Yes, you have to splice into wires that go to the steering wheel controls. Quick connects do not work properly, you have to have a secure connection. I tried initially with quick connects and could not get it to work due to poor connection. Once I spliced and taped the wires, works like a charm [ Gil Jul 29, 2015 ]
