Features

RSE Retention Harness: The iDatalink HRN-AV-GM5 is an RSE retention harness designed to retain the rear seat entertainment system in select GM vehicles. The HRN-AV-GM5 provides an audio/video input to the factory overhead video screen from your new aftermarket radio, and provides the audio/video output from the rear seat control panel to the aftermarket head unit.

Vehicle Compatibility: Click here for a list of compatible GM vehicles.

Connectivity: The HRN-AV-GM5 RSE retention harness features an 11-pin connector which plugs into the factory connector behind your aftermarket stereo. There are also composite video/stereo RCA connectors labeled "From Rear A/V Input" and "To Overhead Screen". The composite video/stereo RCA connectors labeled "From Rear A/V Input" plug into your aftermarket head unit's rear-panel AV input. The composite video/stereo RCA connectors labeled "To Overhead Screen" plug into your aftermarket head unit's rear-panel AV output. There is also a black wire with a ring terminal that will need to be grounded to the vehicle.

Note: Also included is an 8" audio adapter cable which features female stereo RCA connectors on one end and a male stereo minijack (3.5mm) connector on other end. This adapter comes in handy if your new aftermarket head unit features a 3.5mm audio input.

Q
Is the ground wire necessary? What is it for?

A
Greetings Matthew. Thank you for your question. Here is what I think. The factory radio is the ground supply for the rear DVD system. With that gone, and the new stereo in place, the rear DVD system has no ground connection back to the new stereo. You are more than welcome to give our techs a call. Their number is on your shipping confirmation email. Perhaps they can explain a tad better. Thank you for your business.

Does this retain 3rd row monitor on 2007 escalade, if so how is it connected?

I used this product on an 09 silverado to retain the rear seat entertainment (screen) one end of the plug plugs into the factory harness and the other end plugs into the av ports on an aftermarket radio.

Well our 2009 LTZ suburban only has the second row entertainment. I would assume they just split it off to the 3rd row. It works great in the suburban better than the factory set up. It has more functionality than the original.

I have a boss bv9976b 7inch flip out touch screen and I'm trying to hook up my subs would this work?

A
No. The iDatalink HRN-AV-GM5 is an RSE retention harness designed to retain the rear seat entertainment system in select GM vehicles. Your Boss stereo should provide RCA pre-amp outputs you can use to provide the audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. Q
is there an installation guide for this product?
j  Apr 25, 2015

A
There is no guide that I could find, but it is a very simple product. The connector fits perfectly to only the factory connector which goes to the rear screen and audio/video inputs. It won't fit other connectors. You simply match up the labeled RCA connectors with the correct labels on your head unit. It comes with an audio RCA to mini jack adapter, but depending on the inputs on your aftermarket unit, you may actually need an audio/video combined RCA to mini jack adapter, as I did.

I had it installed through local retailer so I didn't look for an installation guide.
