Bluesound Powernode

A streaming music system for the audio enthusiast

Enjoy high-end audio throughout your home. While there are many streaming speakers in today's audio landscape, Bluesound's multi-room music system focuses on giving you the most from high-resolution audio files. The makers of NAD electronics and PSB speakers used their years of audio experience to create this line of multi-room audio gear for the discerning listener. And you can control the Bluesound system using a free app for smartphone or tablet.

Hi-fi streaming through your favorite stereo speakers

Meet the Bluesound Powernode, a wireless music player with a high-performance stereo amplifier built in, for driving virtually any pair of speakers you choose. It may be small, but it's powerful enough to drive a pair of floor-standing speakers. The Powernode utilizes the advanced technology of NAD digital music processing and amplification.

DirectDigital™ Amplifier technology reduces noise and distortion

Bluesound's DirectDigital Amplifier uses the same technology that's found in NAD's Masters Series products. These amplifiers use a streamlined signal path and internal digital-to-analog converters with exceptional speed and accuracy. The result? You'll experience less distortion, deeper bass, and more texture and clarity than with other wireless music players.

High-res audio

A wide variety of music options

Bluesound was designed to play just about any digital music you might have in your collection, including high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192kHz. Access the music stored on your computer or a networked hard drive, or tap into Internet radio stations and online streaming services like Rdio™, Spotify®, TIDAL, and Rhapsody (subscription required for some services). Each Bluesound player also features a USB input for playing files "locally" from a thumb drive or hard drive, so if a friend brings over their favorite album or playlist, you can listen to it through your system.

Create a high-resolution multi-room music system

Combine multiple Bluesound players to enjoy high-end sound throughout your home.

  • Node: This small player connects to an amplified system, like a bookshelf audio system or a home theater system.
  • Pulse: This all-in-one player is perfect for almost any room. It has built-in PSB speakers for great sound in a compact package.
  • Vault: If you've amassed a large collection of CDs, then the Vault was designed for you. It's a storage drive designed with the audio enthusiast in mind. This drive defaults to bit-perfect recording of your CDs, letting you experience every detail without switching discs every time you want to hear a new track or album.

Place a Pulse in your kitchen, attach a Node to your home audio system, and use the PowerNode to drive your high-end speakers.

Control in the palm of your hand

In addition to creating high-end music players, Bluesound also developed free apps for Apple® and Android™ so you can control the system easily with your portable device. Pull up the app on your smartphone or tablet and you can select songs and adjust volume. Play music in one room, all rooms, or different tracks in different spaces around your home.

Great sound quality, convenience, and app

Written By LuisP, Newport Beach, CA on Saturday, December 06, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second BlueSound product. I previously owned the Node for nine months, which I have attached to my main stereo music system. So I already knew the superb quality of the sound produced through the Bluesound products. I bought the Powernode for my home office. The Powernode is essentially the Node, with a built in amplifier. I paired the Powernode with Audioengine P4 bookshelf speakers. It sounds fantastic. Bothe the Node and Powernode have a great internal DAC chip, which produces beautiful, natural, and nuanced sound. I listen to CD quality, 24/96 and 24/192 Flac files through these systems and they all sound great. Also, the ios and android controller apps are full featured, stable and intuitive. I love the interface, and Bluesound keeps improving the apps' features, and adding new music services all the time. I have used Spotify Connect and TuneIn with the Bluesound and they work great. Most recently, I started using the Tidal service to stream uncompressed CD quality FLAC music to my Node/Powernode, and the quality is amazing. (I immediately cancelled Spotify.) I also use the PC and OS X applications to control the Bluesound when I am at my PC in my office or MacBook, they both are full featured, stable, and work great. I store all my music on a NAS drive, and have the Node and Powernode cabled into my network (as opposed to WiFi). Take it from me, if you want great sounding music in any room in the house, don't hesitate to buy the Bluesound products.

Pros: Beautiful high resolution music reproduction, convenient, stylish, great apps, great customer support.

Cons: I wish the Powernode had balance and tone controls, but right now it doesn't seem like it is hampering my enjoyment. Also, I believe Bluesound is working on adding those features.

Sound quality far superior to Sonos

Written By Jon W, New York, NY on Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I auditioned this next to a Sonos Connect:AMP. There was no comparison. The sound quality out of the PowerNode is heads and shoulders above the Sonos. It's no surprise, really, given that this uses NAD's excellent DirectDigital amplifier technology. This is true even on regular 16-bit / 44.1 kHz files. The BlueSound sounds even better on high res files, which the Sonos won't even play.

The BlueSound products also provide more flexibility by allowing me to use the existing 802.11n access points in my house rather than purchasing Sonos repeaters.

I also like the Bluesound controller app better, especially the "New" tab which shows songs that have recently been added to the library.

Pros: Sound quality High res file support 802.11n support

Cons: None

Excellent Products

Written By Tom, Rochester NY on Thursday, September 26, 2013

I was late to the streaming party, but in the past few years I've bounced around from Airplay to JRiver and others, hardware from WD TVs to Apple TVs to Marantz NA7004s, files from ALAC to ripped FLAC to HiDef downloads, and more apps than I can count, which mostly worked OK but overall never was a coherent, consistent, "whole house system" with quality sound. Had to settle with all of the options out there, or pay ridiculous prices. Sonos always was intriguing but limited by lack of hi-def, didn't want to paint myself in a corner.

I got NAD M50, M51 and M52 about a year ago, and that took care of my main system for streaming high quality files. I had heard about Bluesound, and followed its debut in Europe. When they began selling in the US, I tried a Powernode for the patio, and a Node for the basement, as a trial run. Those worked so well that I got another node for the master bedroom. They work flawlessly with the NAD components, and the apps are great -- I've had no issues with dropout or any other problems, and the apps are updated often. I have everything hard-wired Ethernet, not wireless, because of the hi-res files.

The Powernode has great sound, actually more than I really need outside with my current speakers (Polks) -- will try it out with some speakers inside during the winter, as a test run for future options.

These components from Bluesound have brought everything together for my systems, and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and ease of use.

Pros: Sound quality, network/app reliability, ease of use, whole-house control

Cons: none

No, this is a 2.1 channel setup. 5.1 means you have 5 satellite speakers and 1 subwoofer. I bought this for my daughter's room and it sounds great for her. If you want 5.1/7.1 you'll have to get the appropriate receiver and speakers. [ Michael  Jan 16, 2014 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. This system is only designed for stereo operation, but I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help plan your system and find solutions that may work for you. [ Jeff  Jan 14, 2014 ]  Staff
