Streaming music for the audio enthusiast

If you're serious about your music and its sound quality, here's good news. With the Bluesound system, you can play your high-resolution music files and enjoy easy access to your whole music collection throughout your home. Bluesound was designed by the makers of NAD electronics and PSB speakers, both experts when it comes to delivering high-performance audio.

Turn your CD collection into a bit-perfect digital music archive

The Vault 2 features a 2TB storage drive, so it can easily accommodate the larger file sizes of high-resolution digital audio. And it makes it easy to bring your CD collection into the Bluesound ecosystem. Just slip a CD into the slot. The Vault 2 defaults to ripping bit-perfect digital copies of your discs, so you'll hear every detail contained in the original versions. Plus, you can transfer other digital music files which you may have stored on various computers around the house, consolidating all your digital libraries into the Vault 2 for easy access.

Once you've loaded your collection, you'll be able to enjoy all of your music in any room with a Bluesound player. And the Vault 2 is also a Bluesound music player — connect it to your receiver, amplifier, or other audio system using its digital or analog outputs. (Just keep in mind, you'll need to make a wired Ethernet connection between the Vault 2 and your network router.)

High-res audio puts you inside the music

This equipment plays high-resolution audio files that can re-create more lifelike sound than CDs, bringing subtle details to life. High-res online music stores offer a variety of formats including 24-bit/96kHz, 24-bit/192kHz, and DSD.

A universe of music options

Bluesound is compatible with virtually all digital music formats — including high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192kHz. Access the music stored on your computer or a networked hard drive. Stream from Internet radio stations and online services like Spotify®, Rhapsody, and TIDAL. You can also enjoy downloads from high-res music sites such as HDtracks. The player is compatible with MQA, a high-resolution audio format. The Vault 2 also features a USB input for playing files "locally" from a thumb drive or hard drive — ideal when friends come over with their own music.

High-quality Bluetooth

The Vault 2 features aptX® audio coding, an advanced form of Bluetooth that allows higher-fidelity sound with compatible Bluetooth devices. The system is backward-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth, too. Bluetooth is a convenient way to play the sound from any app you might be using on your mobile device, including Netflix® and YouTube™. You can even share that Bluetooth source with other Bluesound music players around your house that are connected to the same network.

Bluesound app

Control the system through Bluesound's free app for your smartphone or tablet.

Create a high-resolution multi-room music system

Combine multiple Bluesound players to enjoy high-end sound throughout your home.

  • Powernode 2: This amplified player connects to a pair of speakers. It may be small, but it's powerful enough to drive a pair of floor-standing speakers.
  • Pulse 2: This all-in-one player is perfect for almost any room. It has built-in PSB speakers for great sound in a compact package.
  • Duo: This 2.1 audio system features two speakers and subwoofer, ideal for TV or computer sound.
  • Pulse Mini: This compact, all-in-one speaker system is ideal for a bookshelf, desk, or nightstand.

Control in the palm of your hand

The Bluesound system is easily controlled from your smartphone or tablet. Just download the free app from the Apple® App Store, or Google Play. The app lets you select songs and adjust volume. Choose to play music in one room, all rooms, or different tracks in different spaces around your home.

The Bluesound wireless high-resolution audio eco-system consists of music players, amplifiers, hard-drives, and wireless speakers to playback your high-res and low-res music files, along with your favorite online music services throughout your home using your home's WiFi network. With an advanced WiFi antenna design and blazing ARM Cortex9 Processors, Bluesound ensures a solid connection in every corner of your home. Play your music in perfect sync or play different music simultaneously to any Bluesound device in any room.

Note: Up to 16 Bluesound devices can be connected in a strictly wireless environment. If you want to connect more than 16 Bluesound devices, you will need to connect the Bluesound devices to your network using a wired connection. Bluesound can then control up to 64 devices in a strictly wired environment.

Vault 2: The Bluesound Vault 2 provides a convenient way to store and listen to your digital music collection. The Vault 2 features a CD-ripper and 2TB hard-drive to store you CD-Audio music files. It also offers a wired network connection and can act as a NAS drive for storage & playback of digital music files on your Windows or Mac computer. In addition, its network connection lets you access even more music from online music services and internet radio. There is even a direct USB input for connection of a USB mass storage class device that contains music files. All of this can be controlled from your Apple iOS or Android device using Bluesound's free controller app.

CD-Ripper w/ 2TB Hard-Drive: The Vault 2's slot-loading CD mechanism can rip an inserted Audio CD directly to its 2TB hard-drive. Rip all your CDs rapidly in lossless high-resolution FLAC or WAV formats, space-saving MP3, or both simultaneously. You can also purchase, download, and store high-res tracks from HDTracks on this dedicated ultra-quiet 2TB hard-drive; with no computer needed. Now, you'll be able to access and share your entire digital music collection and stream it in studio-quality to multiple rooms all over the home via the Bluesound wireless eco-system.

Note: The Vault 2 can store up to18,000 songs in 24-bit/96kHz FLAC format. If you need more space, there is the option to add an extra USB hard drive via one of the USB (type-A) ports located on back of the Vault 2.

Wired Network Connection: The Bluesound Vault 2 is fitted with a Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) jack for a wired connection to your home's network and Internet provider. This network/internet connection allows you to listen to music on the Vault 2's hard-drive on other Bluesound devices through out your home, plus lets you stream digital music files on your network connected Windows or Mac computer, as well as stream select online music services and internet radio to your existing home audio system and the rest of your Bluesound components throughout your home.

Note: The Bluesound Vault 2 can only be connected to your network by a wired Ethernet connection. The Vault 2 does not have a wireless network card.

Bluesound Controller App: The free Bluesound Controller App turns your Apple iOS (7.0+) iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android (OS 4.0+) smartphone/tablet, Windows (Vista or higher) PC or Mac (OS X 10.7+) computer into a full-featured remote control for the Bluesound wireless music system. The Bluesound Controller App on your compatible device uses your home's WiFi network to connect with Bluesound devices, so you can play all the music you love anywhere in your home for a wireless multiroom music experience. Can't help you with the Sonos question but I can confirm that digitized vinyl can be stored on the Vault 2. I've done a bunch of 'em and transferred the lossless files I created over to the Vault 2 via my home network.

As far as Sonos compatability I have no clue. I was never impressed with quality of sonos playback so never got involved. To the question of storing and playback of files its so easy. Just plug in a flash drive on mini hardrive and you gain total access through the player interface.for instance I plugged an old wheel ipod into player and it works great. The playlist are a bit diffucult to reconize but it works..

The VAULT is not equipped with a wireless card and can only be connected in a wired state, ethernet RJ45. Ref. Bluesound Help Center - General Wifi Setup
sidney e.  Jan 09, 2017
A
The Bluesound only works with a wired Ethernet connection. No WiFi support unfortunately.
ronald  Jan 09, 2017
A
Keep in mind the Vault only has a wired connection which would be cabled to your wireless router. You access the device via a smart phone or tablet app which is your remote control. So the wireless part of the equation only applies to your phone or tablet. It works very well by the way.
john  Jan 09, 2017
A
Only supports 2.4
michael  Jan 09, 2017
A
The Vault requires a hard-wired (RJ-45) connection to your router. It is not a wireless device. Other Bluesound products use wireless connections to stream from the Vault, via your router.

Can the Vault 2 be connected to my network utilizing a wireless bridge?
william  Nov 02, 2015
1 answer
A
The answer is yes (we are using the NetGear EX6100 Range Extender [aka wireless bridge]). It took some work to set up (factory resets ...). The Vault2 must be connected via an Ethernet cable with RJ-45 plugs from the Vault2's RJ-45 jack to the EX6100's RJ-45 jack. The Vault2 does not connect wirelessly!!!

Q
can I take only the digital output and put it into a dedicated DAC and then to an Integrateed amp of my own???
lawrence  Sep 24, 2015
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, the digital audio output on the Bluesound Vault 2 can be connected to a separate DAC of the customer's choosing which can then be connected to an amp/integrated amp of their choice. The Vault does have a 24-bit/192kHz DAC built-in, so make sure the DAC is better or it isn't going to be beneficial. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

The BlueOS app for your phone or tablet lets you view music several ways: by album, artist, or by file.
jason  Sep 22, 2018
A
Absolutely. This device is hard wired to your internet port so can gather mystic files from so many sources including iTunes. Your iPhone is the control and music is managed in every way you probably can think of. List all songs alphabetically. List albums, catagoties. I have found one shortcoming. It has Apt X feature but does not play to the HiRes apt x headphones I bought. It's hard wire and I have been using good but 1999 era demon equipment with wired speakers. I have not made a plunge yet into blursound speaker setup. Read the specs carefully and you will make the right decision

Yep, load any CD in any order a-z and Bluesound vault will load them in alphabetical order. They appear in alpha order on your remote IPone or iPad.

Hard drives die. What happens when the one in the BSV2 does? Can it be replaced?

Yes, the hard drive can be replaced, either as a warranty issue or as a service incident when the unit is out of warranty. When the drive is replaced all data is lost. That is why BS is very emphatic about regular backups. Once you have loaded all your CDs you need to backup the drive. You need to match the size of the backup drive to match the 1TB or 2TB size you select. Backups can be done concurrently with using the Vault to play music.

I have a Vault2. Hard drive died after about 18 months. Fairly limited use considering what it was designed for. That said, I contacted Bluesound - determined that because the unit was out of warranty - the best they could do was offer me a certified - duly warranted refurbished unit at 50% off the price of a new unit. I took the deal - and have used the hell out of the replacement unit....well over a 1000 cds with no with no issues. Lesson learned - if you buy one - use it - I believe the first one I had was flawed from the star - had I used it harder it would have failed inside the warranty period

I'm not certain, but I'm assuming the answer is yes. The Bluesound software provides a backup utility via the USB port to an external 2TB drive. If replacing a faulty hard-drive is not an option, why provide a backup? I don't believe there's any software on the hard-drive--just your music library. Replacing the hard-drive should be straight-forward, no more difficult that replacing a drive in a PC.

Q
It seems the Vault only stores FLAC on its internal drive. If I want to load my music library (which is AIFF) from an external hard drive to the Vault's internal, will it automatically convert AIFF to FLAC?

I haven't needed to do this BUT some of my ripped files were not added as FLAC and I found an program online that could view the files on the Vault and convert them to FLAC.

No, it leaves them in their original format

Not sure how it works but did move my itunes library over to the Vault. Best to call Bluesound in Canada for tech support's accurate answer on conversion.

According to Tony W of Bluesound last month: "Bluesound Players play AIFF natively but we do have an issue if being played from an iPhone - we are aware of the issue and have been looking at it for sometime now." Assuming that to be correct, you should be able to map the Vault as a network drive and then simply copy your AIFF files to it. The Vault uses a \Music\[Artist Name]\[Album Name]\Songs storage format.

Hi there. The specs state it's supported up to Windows 7. Will Vault 2 work on Windows 10? I'm surprised it's not listed, and no one has asked this question already. Thanks in advance.

I am running it under Windows 10. I use the BS app to select/play music and to listen to Internet Radio. Settings for the Vault 2 can be accessed from your browser at the Vault 2's IP address.

Yes. You can access your iTunes music library if it is on a computer on the same home network as the Bluesound Vault2. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the product's main webpage. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
