Master of reunion ceremonies

Here's a lens that will take you from the reunion group shot to a tight shot of the family water-skier's face — taken amidst the spray at the back of the boat. The zoom range is an impressive 7.5X, so you'll have options no matter the venue. With weather-resistant, dust-resistant construction, this lens is the perfect companion to the Pentax K-5 weather-resistant digital SLR. Between the two, you'll have a combo that's built for bringing home the elusive shot under challenging circumstances.

Plus, this lens isn't just rugged — it's got optical talents as well. Extra-low dispersion and aspherical glass elements, plus special Pentax coatings, make your images as sharp and artifact-free as they can be. And the DC (direct current) motor autofocus is quiet, responsive, and accurate.

Great Lens--Why Discontinue???

Written By D, Idaho on Friday, September 06, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This lens is, as most reviewers note, the ideal zoom range, weight, and weather resistance. It is also very, very sharp--surprisingly so! Most of my photography is landscapes, and I find this to be the ideal lens for lightweight carrying, excellent sharpness, and color rendition. And it is a bargain too!

Pros: Weather sealing. Lightweight. Sharpness. Focus speed. Easy to carry.

Cons: None--except discontinued: WHY?!

Decent glass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To be fair I am an amateur and this is my first zoom lens for my new K-5 iis. I used this lens - among other events - for a indoor recital and a camping tip. The indoor recital was a great test because of the low light condition but I think much of the credit goes to the camera. As for the camping trip it produced respectable pictures, if nothing spectacular - which I could blame myself instead :)

Pros: The best thing with this is it being weather resistant. I took the camera (also WR) on a camping trip and the weather went from warm to very cold (40 F) with rain and wind. Had it not a WR camera + lens I would be too worried to pull it out on the last day

Cons: It does its job but nothing 'jumps out' as amazing. However, for comparison, I have a 35mm prime lens and it produced some real amazing portraits.
