Something to fawn over

The glowering clouds above tell you that you might not have picked the best day to hike. But something about the imperfect weather seems to have brought the area wildlife out of hiding. In the clearing ahead you can see a mother deer with two fawns. Best not to spook them. Your Pentax DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 lens will get you close enough for the perfect shot without encroaching on their space. And you'll be ready if the rain shows up, too. With weather-resistant, dust-resistant construction, this lens is the perfect companion to the Pentax K-5 weather-resistant digital SLR. Between the two, you'll have a combo that's built for bringing home the elusive shot under challenging circumstances.

While this lens is rugged, it has a sophisticated side as well. It's got a useful maximum aperture range of f/4-5.6, so it's ready for shooting in the great outdoors. Aspherical and extra-low dispersion glass elements, plus special Pentax coatings, make your images as sharp and artifact-free as they can be. The Quick-Shift focus system allows instant on-the-fly switching from auto to manual focus.

Overview: The smc Pentax-DA 50-200mm F4-5.6ED WR is a 4x telephoto zoom lens for Pentax D-SLR and interchangeable lens cameras. It is weather-resistant for shooting in damp, inclement conditions.

Lens Mount: The lens has a KAF-mount, and can fit Pentax D-SLR and interchangeable lens cameras with KAF, KAF2 and KAF3 mounts. This includes the Pentax K-5 and K-01 cameras.

Zoom Ring: With the 50-200mm lens, zooming is performed by rotating the zoom ring (closest to the camera body). Markings are provided at 50, 80, 100, 135, and 200mm.

Lens Hood: The lens kit includes the PH-RBD 49mm lens hood to keep unwanted light out of the lens, and protect the front of the lens. The hood can be reverse-mounted on the lens for storage. When installed, the hood adds approximately 1-3/4" to the overall length of the lens.

ED Glass: The Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens element and two aspherical lens elements offer superior sharpness with minimum chromatic and spherical aberration.
