Music Hall Ikura turntable

Music Hall's ikura turntable offers beautiful sound and looks.

We've always believed that job one for any audio component is to deliver great sound, with cosmetics taking a back seat to performance. With Music Hall's ikura, we now know that it's possible to have our cake and eat it, too. Designed and developed in the USA, this stunning turntable not only serves up seriously great sound, it looks gorgeous doing it. Precise construction and careful attention to details and materials allow this 'table to retrieve astonishing levels of sonic detail from the grooves of your albums. And a high-gloss piano lacquer finish with a sleek, sculpted chassis adds to its striking look.

Features that put the focus on sound

The ikura starts with Music Hall's unique two-piece chassis design, called a “split-plinth.” This design does more than just look beautiful — it also isolates vibrations that can smear sonic detail. The bottom platform supports the three height-adjustable conical feet, motor, power switch, wiring and electrical parts, while the top platform holds the turntable's critical sound reproducing components — the platter bearing, tonearm, and cartridge. Three rubber isolating cones separate the two layers, virtually eliminating transmitted vibration, for silent backgrounds and superior sound. The 'table's dynamically balanced MDF platter spins on a precision stainless steel bearing sheathed in a layer of Teflon® for smooth, steady rotation.

The ikura's alloy tonearm boasts rigid, one-piece construction, Swiss-made stainless steel bearings, and a decoupled, resonance-damping counterweight for exceptional low-friction, low-noise operation. Its 9" length allows for a very shallow tracking arc across the record, helping to reduce distortion. And the turntable includes a pre-mounted Ortofon 2M Blue phono cartridge.

Hassle-free setup

One of the great things about vinyl records is that they force you to slow down and savor the act of listening. But the ikura won't slow you down much, because of its hassle-free plug-and-play design. Music Hall knows that turntable setup can be a challenge for the novice. That's why this 'table comes out of the box virtually ready to play. Its factory-mounted tonearm and cartridge take the guesswork out of getting started, so you can enjoy optimized sound quality with minimal effort. A few minutes to dial in key settings like tracking force, anti-skating, and platter speed are all that's needed to unlock the best sound you've ever heard from your record collection.

Features

Ikura Series: The Ikura series turntable is the result of a dynamic design partnership between Doing & Done, headed by designer James Kyroudis, and Music Hall. Each element of the Ikura turntable has been carefully selected to provide you with the highest level of performance and sound quality.

2-Speed, Belt-Driven Turntable: The Music Hall Ikura turntable employs a low noise fully manual belt drive design that supports two speeds (33/45 rpm). A 45 rpm adapter is included.

  • Speeds: 33/45 rpm
  • Speed Deviation: +/- 0.9%
  • Wow & Flutter: +/-0.15%
  • Rumble Max: -70 dB
  • Power Absorption: 2VA

Split-Plinth Design: The foundation of the Ikura series turntable's design remains the unique two-piece split-plinth design originated by Music Hall. The two plinths are isolated and separated by three vulcanized rubber cones. Three adjustable conical feet, a 2-speed dc synchronous motor, power switch, wiring and electrical parts are all mounted on the bottom plinth while the critical sound reproducing components; the main bearing, arm and cartridge are mounted on the top plinth.

MDF Platter & Felt Mat: The turntable's MDF(medium density fiberboard) platter and felt mat sit on a high quality, stainless steel ball bearing sheathed in Teflon providing fluid and noise-free operation. The bearing assembly comes pre-charged with lubricant.

9" Tonearm: The effective length of the tonearm is 9"; this allows for a very shallow tracking arc on the record thus reducing distortion and record wear. Swiss made ABEC 7 stainless steel bearings provide a high-level of performance. The tonearm also has adjustable VTA, a damped arm lift, and highly flexible top-grade internal wiring drawn from high purity copper.

  • Length: 9." (228.6mm)
  • Overhang: 0.71" (18mm)
  • Tracking Force: 16-20 mN (18 mN recommended)

MM (Moving Magnet) Cartridge: The tonearm comes mounted with an Ortofon 2m blue moving magnet cartridge, plus a user replaceable nude elliptical diamond stylus. The cartridge comes pre-mounted and properly aligned.

  • Frequency Response: 20-25kHz (+/-3db)
  • Channel Balance: 1.5dB @ 1kHz
  • Channel Separation: 25dB @ 1kHz
  • Vertical Tracking Angle: 20 degrees
  • Stylus Type: Nude Elliptical
  • Load Resistance: 47 kOhm
  • Load Capacitance: 150-300 pF
  • Internal Inductance: 700 mH
  • Internal Resistance: 1.3 kOhm
  • Cartridge Weight: 7.2 g
Note: If your amplifier does not have a suitable Phono MC input, a separate phono pre-amplifier (sold separately) is required to connect the turntable to your amplifier.

Gold-Plated RCA Outputs: The Music Hall Ikura turntable is fitted with high quality gold-plated RCA connectors and comes with a detachable 4' stereo RCA cable.

Dust Cover: The Music Hall Ikura comes supplied with a dust cover to prevent dust build-up on the turntable. The dust cover is not hinged; it simply rests on top of the turntable and lifts on or off.

AC Power Adapter: The turntable operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power adapter.

  • Input: 100V-240V~50/60Hz, 1.0A
  • Output: 15V - 1.6A

Customer Q&A

Q
Can this be turntable be connected to Bose speakers?

A
Actually, no turntable can be connected directly to any speakers. A turntable (just like a CD player or an old cassette player, which you may remember from years back) must be connected to an amplifier or receiver. It is the amplifier or receiver that is connected to the speakers (any speakers). I'm sure that with Bose speakers you will not be disappointed with the sound but please make sure that you have a good quality amplifier or receiver to connect to your Bose speakers. This turntable does provide lovely sound. I've been very happy with it. Please also remember to keep your records clean for the best possible sound. I hope you enjoy your records with your Music Hall Ikura turntable!!!

The turntable has to be connected to a amplifier and then the amplifier connects to your speakers. It has a left and right channel RCA jack output.

This turntable, like most of them, cannot be connected directly to speakers. It must first go through a receiver with phono preamp capabilities or a separate phono preamp and then into a receiver. The turntable does amplify the signal and relies on the other equipment to do that.

Hi - It won't connect directly to speakers. You'll need to connect it through a receiver (which will have the speakers connected to it). Depending on the receiver, you may need to use a pre-amplifier between the turntable and the receiver. It should be reasonably priced and easy to connect. Once you have that set up, you can use any speakers.
