Overview

Our take on the BOOM Swimmer

The BOOM Swimmer is not afraid of the water. This durable little Bluetooth speaker can be immersed to a depth of 3 feet for up to 20 minutes, and it plays music wirelessly from your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth-compatible device. Use it anywhere there's a chance of getting soaked — poolside, in the shower, on the slopes (but don't take it scuba diving). Not only is the Swimmer waterproof, but its rugged casing is also shock-resistant and dust-resistant, too. Perfect for a day at the beach.

BOOM Swimmer waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker

Use the Swimmer's flexible tail to mount it just about anywhere.

Flexible tail for endless mounting options

The Swimmer's flexible tail means you can mount the speaker just about anywhere. Twist it around a pole, loop it around a shower head, or around handlebars — and lots more.

Lose the tail, add more bass

The tail is detachable, so you can just set the Swimmer upright on a flat surface. The Swimmer also comes with a suction cup. Just screw it into the back and pop in on the wall. And here's a bonus: the wall reinforces the low tones. You'll notice stronger bass when the Swimmer's wall-mounted.

Convenient charging

The built-in battery lasts for up to eight hours of continuous use. Its USB charging cable can either be connected to its AC power adapter, or plugged directly into your computer for easy charging.

This product is universal and very durable. Good for all ages.

We purchased this little guy a while back to listen to while getting reay for the day. It's hung on our towel rack in the bathroom and provides ample sound while showering, brushing teeth and even through my wife's hair dryer! Great portable size and the tail is a unique and adaptable hanging device. Really enjoy it and very happy that this purchase treads water!

Pros: size sound ease of use

Cons: power on and off loudness

This is a great little speaker! It was very easy to set up and use. It plays quite loud and sounds impressive for a 2 inch speaker. It does have some bass, and vibrates enough to feel it, but don't expect it to sound like an 8 inch woofer, of course. The mids and highs are very clear. This speaker is truly waterproof, (yes, I put it under water) so long as you have the tail or suction cup screwed on snugly. The battery life seems good so far, though I need to evaluate this more. I also like the Bluetooth control (play/pause, skip) because I often use this speaker while on the lake, where my phone is stored in a "dry box". The button icons are molded into the rubber and are difficult to see in low light because they're the same color as the rubber case. I may mark them with a Sharpie or paint pen so they stand out.

Pros: Sounds good. Plays loud. Truly waterproof.

Cons: Button icons are difficult to see.

The speaker is compact and plays quite clear and loudly with authoritative bass, but when I unscrewed the end to access the USB charging port, the rubber o-ring used to make it waterproof was badly damaged and takes a lot of work to get to stay somewhat in place. The "tail" is nice, but it doesn't go too tight, making it difficult to secure a good spot on the jogging stroller where it still points upwards, rather than just hanging down and providing the ground with some great tunes.

Pros: Sounds great, holds a charge forever, seems very well built for the most part, super portable, waterproof is a nice touch if it works.

Cons: Positionable "tail" could be better, rubber o-ring solution not good.

This is a nice little speaker with very good sound for the size. At first, I wasn't impressed, but then realized the volume had to be adjusted on my iPad-- then it was much better. The instructions didn't seem very good, is my only complaint. I had to go on YouTube to find out how to connect it to bluetooth. I ended up getting my Dad one for Father's Day and he was very happy with it. I mainly use mine for the shower, but the portability is a big plus.

Pros: wireless, portable, quality sound for the size

Cons: Instructions were not clear for connecting to bluetooth, had to research it online.

Great quality for the price

Pros: Pairs easily. Good volume and clear sounding. Wrap around tail attaches to nearly anything. I even use it in my car for Google maps, as it is much louder than my Samsung Smartphone. Recharges very fast and play back is about 7 1/2 hours at full volume.

Cons: After about 20 foot distance it disconnect from pairing with my phone

This little speaker packs a punch!! I bought this speaker to use in the shower, I wasn't expecting it to be as loud and rich in sound as it really is! It actually has very good bass as well, especially if you use the suction piece with it. I'm very impressed with the Boom Swimmer and the battery life is great on it as well, very easy to pair.

Pros: Easy to pair, Loud Crisp Sound

Cons: Suction not recommended for use in shower tile, not really a product con. I've had it fall a few times because of the moisture on the tile so I went back to using the tail.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been wanting a Bluetooth speaker for a while, after reading reviews for a few months I decided to go ahead and pick this up due to being able to use it in the shower or outside with out being worried about water damage. It has an impressive sound for the size. It will distort at max volume but anything is going to distort at max volume. I have turned the BOOM up 2/3 of the way and then use my phone to fine tune the volume and have had no issues. The rubber seal on the back of the unit was stretched and didn't fit. Nothing trimming and some clear nail polish couldn't fix. Over all very happy with it. This will not be loud enough for a big room, it is about the size of a tennis ball.

Pros: Water Proof, Price, and color selection.

Cons: Not water proof with out the tail. My seal came stretched and I had to repair it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this little guy. I pop him in the bag on top of my frame while I bike. I can crank out miles and miles with the rockin' tunes motivating me. I've tried many speakers on my bike but I can say this is the best I have found. I often have to turn it down because it's too loud. Now that is saying something. I also have the Boom Urchin and love that speaker as well.

Pros: Small, waterproof, easy to charge.

Cons: Wish it were easier to find the controls while riding but I will work that out with some marking on top.

I have listened to small BLUETOOTH speakers before, but when I saw the waterproof Swimmer I had to have one for my bike. Ear buds are dangerous when riding. It's perfect for handlebars, and has great sound. You'll love it.

Pros: Easy link up. Great sound

Cons: A little pricey

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I saw this little speaker in the Crutchfield mailer. It was attached to a bike handlebar and I thought what a great idea. With summer here what better way to cruise around than with tunes on my bike. The speaker has surprising range and loudness. Its a hit with my friends and they are lining up to get one.

Pros: Great sound and volume. Hooks up easily to your phone and lasts for hours.

Cons: The tail doesn't quite hold as well as you would think to the handlebar. And the "black" version isnt black at all. Its gray.

I wouldn't call this "RED" it's more red-orange. The power on/off voice is LOUD! good sound out of a little speaker, long battery life, easy to use, discreet controls. Bright-flashing operation light somewhat annoying in totally dark bedroom situation, good to locate the device, when needed, in the dark. Suction doesn't work on varnished wood for too long.

Cons:

Good sound

Written by: Dave from Boston on March 14, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little speaker has a nice solid sound. The rubberized texture gives the impression that it's a high quality piece. This is and will continue to be used in the shower listening mainly to news and sports in the morning. I'm using the "tail" to attach the speaker to the shower curtain rod. I haven't tried the suction cup attachment. The instructions do say that the speaker is waterproof only with the tail, not the suction cup. Also the speaker is heavy for its size and I question the suction cup's ability to keep this thing on the wall. Only gripe I have is the voice that announces "power on" and "power off". Wish there was some way to turn that off.

Pros: Good sound, feels like it is fairly high quality, battery life seems good so far.

Cons: Voice announcing "power on" and "power off".

BOOM swimmer (red)

Written by: Bradley from Richmond, VA on January 8, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Bluetooth speaker sounds good for its small size. The fact that it has a bendable hook, suction cup, and can stand alone is also nice. Perfect for music in the bathroom or shower since its waterproof and is plenty loud to fill a small room with music. You could use it at a pool but don't expect it to be loud enough for something like a party.

Pros: waterproof easy to operate (only has a few buttons and was super easy to sinc to an iPad) good sound for the size

Cons: None so far, just know what you are getting. A small speaker that sounds good for its size, not something that will be large enough for parties.

The Boom Swimmer supports Bluetooth A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming and control. Basic playback controls include Volume up/down, Play/Pause, and Track Forward/Reverse. This speaker pairs with your Bluetooth-enabled device with a single press of a button. Once paired, the Boom Swimmer will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Boom Swimmer.

Water, Dust, & Shock Proof: The Boom Swimmer is IPX7 rated, meaning it can be immersed in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes with its tail on. Feel free to take it with you in the pool, the ocean, or even the shower. It is also dust and shock proof for extra durability.

Full-Range Speaker: The Boom Swimmer waterproof Bluetooth speaker employs a single full-range speaker powered by a built-in amplifier for surprisingly big sound from such a small speaker.

Multiple Mounting Options: On the back of the Swimmer is a flexible tail, that can be looped, twisted or snaked for endless mounting possibilities. You can also unscrew the Swimmer's tail and screw in the included suction-cup, so you can attach the Bluetooth speaker to any flat surface.

Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery: The Boom Swimmer waterproof Bluetooth speaker is powered by a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that gives you 8 hours of playback at maximum volume, or 16 hours at half volume. The Swimmer features a micro-USB (type-B) port and comes with a 48" USB charging cable so you can charge the speaker's Lithium-ion battery via a free USB (type-A) port on your computer/laptop or a USB/AC power adapter (sold separately). I have no idea how many "watts" it is. I bought for my daughter. She uses it at home/work and when she is riding her bike. She says she really likes it. Several of the girls at the hair salon she works at have also bought. [ Kenneth  Jan 20, 2015 ]
Yes it does. [ Dennis  May 06, 2015 ]
I purchased this for my daughter who loves to sing in the shower and she did enjoy it but doesn't use it now because the O ring between at the end of the speaker keeps coming out. To answer your question she said that it does not shut off when not being used. Hope this helps. [ John  Dec 16, 2014 ]
I have not had mine off for a long time to find out but the battery lasts pretty long before it beeps at you to plug in [ christopher  Dec 14, 2014 ]
Not it doesn't. [ Christian  Dec 14, 2014 ]
No. I sometimes forget to shut it off. But the battery life is good and it sounds great!!!!! One of my best purchases:) [ joyce  Dec 14, 2014 ]
No. It will die and need to be recharged [ MORGAN  Dec 14, 2014 ]
There is a o-ring gasket on the speaker itself. It's waterproof with the suction cup too. I use it in the shower that way. Dropped in a tub that way too. If neither is screwed on the USB band Aux input only have a rubber flap that is best described as splash resistant. [ Chad  Jul 08, 2015 ]
I have use it for the shower, with both attachments and work great, it's been over a year and still working great [ Alejandro  Jul 08, 2015 ]
I have had no problems with the suction cup while using outside when it has rained [ Michael  Jul 07, 2015 ]
I Use it in the shower with suction cup not sure if it covered by warranty but works great just make sure to get it to suction good likes to fall off if not attached well [ Kyle  Jul 07, 2015 ]
No it is not water tight with the suction cup attached. You can see as you apply the suction cup that it does not create a tight seal on the rear of the speaker. However, if the speaker will not be submerged or make dorect contact with water it can still be used around water without concern. For example, I have not experienced any issues from steam exposure from a shower or anything like that. [ Tanner  Jul 07, 2015 ]
No suction cup. The tail is a separate section that is screwed in to hide the charging area. I have mine hanging off the shower head. Tail is flexable so you can hang it anywhere . You only unscrew to re-charge. Wrap it around shower head or shower curtain rod. [ WILLIAM B  Jul 07, 2015 ]
I have had a boom swimmer for 2 years now. I don't think you really sit around listening to music in the rain but that's just me. The suction cup really doesn't get used much because the tail is so versatile and it sounds great regardless. The suction cup does provide a little more bass when put on a glass top but that's really the only advantage. And it's really not waterproof it's water resistent because it's not supposed to be submerged. [ Kris  Jul 07, 2015 ]
We only have 1 so I am not sure. [ Bradley  May 22, 2015 ]
Sorry i have not tried multiple speakers .Only own one. Speaker is good for small room and great for a bathroom/shower. Connecting to multiple speakers at once would depend on your device and you probably would want to go to a bigger speaker for better sound output. [ WILLIAM B  May 21, 2015 ]
I am afraid I only have one and cannot try it,I would imagine that you could not do as you asked.Best guess [ Michael  May 21, 2015 ]
Assuming your device can stream to multiple devices you'll get sound from both. The sound will be the same sound though. No actual surround affect and no tethering for stereo between multiple speakers. I know on my cell phone it makes you pick which BT device to send audio to. So theoretically maybe, but its not a specific design of the Boom Swimmer. [ Chad  May 21, 2015 ]
No, you can not [ Tanner  May 21, 2015 ]
Shayne B, yes you can use any button on the swimmer while in the shower, it has your basic volume up, volume down, song skip functions. Till now the only problem is that the plastic inside the tail of my swimmer broke but other than that, this swimmer can pack a punch. Definitely amazing sound. [ Fabian  Jun 21, 2014 ]
Yes [ JOHN  Jun 20, 2014 ]
Yes there is a simple adjustment on the device for the volume also a power, pause & bluetooth sync button. I use mlne in the shower everyday. [ WILLIAM B  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes, however this does not adjust the volume on your phone if that's what it's paired to. You can also skip songs by holding the volume plus button down for a few seconds. [ Jeremy  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes. There are two buttons ( + and -) for volume control. [ ELIZABETH  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes, volume is adjustable by clicking the + or - buttons on the speaker. [ Richard  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes you can, it has a power button, bluetooth sync button and volume up and down button on the speaker. It will only sync with one device at a time, so if you have more than one device, you have to resync a new device, it only remembers the last one you used, the last one you used yiu can use repeatedly without re-synching [ obeid  Jun 19, 2014 ]
The speaker has volume buttons (+ & -) on the side, so you can adjust the volume as needed. BTW, this is a GREAT SPEAKER, that produces very nice sound!! Enjoy! [ SEAN  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes the speaker can be adjusted at the speaker while in the shower. We love this speaker and plan on buying a couple more. [ gary  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes u can, however, it is not synced with the bluetooth decive. So just know that the volumes are separate. I typically turn the volume up high on one device and control the actual sound from the other device depending on which way you plan to use it. So in that case u would just use the speaker to actually control the sound. Hope that answers your question [ Tanner  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes. There are + and - buttons on the side of the speaker as well as the bluetooth and power buttons. [ DAVID  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes you can adjust the volume. [ ASHLEY  Jun 19, 2014 ]
Yes, there are volume controls on speaker. [ Michael  Jun 19, 2014 ]
