Features

Weatherproof Design: The Braven BRV-1 Bluetooth speaker is completely weatherproof, making it rugged and dependable for outdoor use. Complying with NEMA IPX5 Waterproof Standards, the BRAVEN BRV-1 speaker is protected against dust, rainfall, water jets, and water splashing (but not intended to be submersed in water).

Note: To ensure the Braven BRV-1 is prepared for use in a wet environment, remove all cable connections and tightly close the rear water cap. If the water cap is not properly closed, the BRV-1 watertight seals may be jeopardized. Any water entering the rear connection area will void the warranty, and could ruin your speaker.

Bluetooth Wireless Speaker: The Braven BRV-1 Bluetooth speaker is Bluetooth v2.1 compliant and is ideal for your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, audio player, and other devices. The Braven BRV-1 supports Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP) and Bluetooth hands-free communication (HFP 1.5/HSP 1.1).

  • Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Braven BRV-1 Bluetooth speaker streams stereo music wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled devices such as your Apple iOS device, Android smartphones, Blackberry, computer/PC or other devices. The Braven BRV-1 offers basic playback control (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) over your music. You will continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device to view song/artist information.
  • Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The BRV-1 speaker features a built-in microphone and a answer/end button so you can answer phone calls from the speaker. When the BRV-1 is synced via Bluetooth with your mobile phone and a call comes in, your music will be pause and the phone's ring tone will play over the BRV-1 speaker. Simply press the answer/end button on the speaker to answer your call through the Braven BRV-1. You will continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device to view video calls, manually enter a phone number, and control other advanced phone functions.
Note: The BRV-1 speaker can sync wirelessly with most Bluetooth enabled devices (but not all). The BRV-1 is capable of remembering the last 8 devices paired with it and will automatically search for previous connections when the speaker is initially turned on. If a connection is lost, the speaker will look to re-establish that connection again, but will not automatically look for the device again if the Bluetooth connection is turned off on the device until the speaker is turned off and then turned on again. If the device goes out of range and then comes back into Bluetooth range, the speaker will automatically reestablish the connection.

Class D Amp + Passive Radiator Speaker Design: The BRV-1 Bluetooth speaker features dual front-firing 1.5625" full-range drivers powered by a Class D digital amplifier for detailed sound. A down-firing 2.75" passive radiator provides complementary midbass.

Auxiliary Input: For devices that do not support Bluetooth, the Braven BRV-1 features an auxiliary input (3.5mm) and includes a stereo minijack audio cable that can be connected between the Braven speaker and your music player. The Braven speaker can be used with music players that have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

USB Charging Port: The Braven BRV-1 is designed to efficiently charge mobile phones and other small portable devices that draw power from a 0.5A to 1A charge, via the speaker's USB (type-A) port. To charge your mobile device, simply plug the USB end of your phone's charging cable into the Braven speaker's USB port and plug your phone into the other end. Once both ends are connected, your phone will begin charging. The Braven BRV-1 won't charge unless the speaker's battery has some charge and is in the "On" position. On a full charge, without music playing, your BRV-1 can charge a typical smartphone to approximately 50-70% (depending on model/battery size). You can also continue to listen to your device's music through the Braven speaker, while its charging (as long as the Braven speaker has an adequate charge).

Note: The Braven BRV-1 is not designed to charge a tablet or any other device requiring a higher powered (2A) USB connection. This USB charging port cannot be used for audio streaming.

Rechargeable Battery: The Braven BRV-1 speaker has a built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery (3.7V/1400mAh) that provides up to 12 hours of playback time at moderate volume levels. You can easily recharge the battery using the included charging cable and a free USB (type-A) port on your computer.  Charging time is approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Five rear-panel LEDs indicate battery level and charging status. You can continue to play your music through the Braven speaker while it charges.

Note: The Braven BRV-1 speaker should be charged for 5 hours before initial use.

Awesome little box

Written By Andy, collinsville, va on Friday, March 28, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I went thru 2 JBL flips because the battery on each wouldn't last an hour. My Crutchfield advisor suggested this speaker, and boy was he right. It packs a wallop as far as sound is concerned, I've had it two weeks with frequent use and I still haven't had to charge the battery. Do yourself a favor--if you're looking for a decent little bluetooth speaker, get this one. Tremendous bang for the buck.
Pros:
Great sound, Incredible battery life. Water and shock resistant.
Cons:
none.

Nice Little Speaker

Written By Bobmanz, Ellicott City, MD on Friday, March 28, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second Braven BRV-1 I've purchased from Crutchfield, the first a gift for my son, who loves it, and the second for me! Needless to say, it's a very nice, well made, decent sounding little speaker.
Pros:
Very aesthetically pleasing unit, holds a charge for much longer than any other small electronic devices I own, Bluetooth sync's quickly, nice and compact, and great sound for a small package.
Cons:
Nothing really, however, It's a small package, so don't expect any rich bass, or to be able to crank it up to listen across a small room...it needs to be relatively close by to take full advantage of it's remarkable sound.

Not what I expected

Written By Missiletoe, Leesville. La on Thursday, March 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Volume is much lower then I expected. The battery status indicator lights do not work but not worth the hassle to return. The volume controls do not operate (by design) when using the 3.5 mm connector. Would not recommend.
Pros:
portable pairs well on bluetooth
Cons:
low volume received defective unit (battery indicator lights don't work)

Clear and Unrestrained

Written By theplace, Livonia, MI on Wednesday, March 19, 2014

I had been admiring the little BOSE mini for the longest, but just never could see paying the price they want for it. So glad I discovered the mighty little BRV-1 ! HALF the price, TWICE as stylish & convenient. My plans are to attach a neck strap and take it with me on every bike ride!
Pros:
Durable, stylish, clear & unrestrained sound.
Cons:
Sure would be nice if it had a handlebar mount for my bike... None the less, it will go with me every time I leave the house!

Does exactly what I wanted...

Written By TWayne, Nashville, TN on Tuesday, December 31, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amplified speaker is small, weather and water resistant and build tough. It will not give deep, rich range and will not fill a large room (or outside) with loud music. I wanted a small, sturdy personal speaker to use at the beach, pool, or on a trip. works like a charm. Also, you can Bluetooth phone calls through it.
Pros:
Small Sturdy Weather/Water resistant Great battery life / rechargeable
Cons:
Sound is limited in quality and volume

Great sound at lower levels. Easy connectivity.

Scratchy at higher sound levels but not that bad.

Great Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Bluetooth speaker is a great buy. I was looking for one I could use anywhere. Most of the ones on the market aren't built to be used besides in an office or home environment. I work in an outdoor construction enviroment and I am not worried about babying this. Quality built product with great sound and decent bass. Ill probably order another as a gift. Good product for those not stuck on brand names i.e. Beats or Bose
Pros:
Sound, ruggedness, and build quality.
Cons:
None I can think of yet.

Great Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice compact size! The outer covering seems to be be very durable. Have taken it hiking and tossed it around a little. The sound is really good in my opinion. Perfect for the backyard and doesn't get too load to disturb the neighbors. Only draw back is it has trouble switching from blue tooth to handset during calls. Will turn itself off for some reason.
Pros:
Durable with good sound
Cons:
Taking calls while using speaker will sometimes fail. Will turn speaker off

Pros:
Convenient, compact, rugged, easy to use

Braven BRV-1

Written By El Californio, San Diego on Tuesday, July 09, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Heard this play at an airport store waiting for a flight. It was directly next to the Dr. Dre pill. While the Dr. Dre was smaller and easier to pack for traveling, the sound quality of the Braven was easily superior.

We take this to the beach or put it in a room, and it is working great! Very easy to use, easy to pair to Bluetooth, and charging is simple.

While the sound will not blow anybody away, it is a small unit, intended for outside use, and it's perfect for a day at the beach, park, etc. It has responded well to sand blowing around it, it's water resistant, and we like it.

For the money, we highly recommend!
Pros:
Easy to use, nice sound, well built.
Cons:
Not quite as small as the Dr. Dre for traveling, but the superior sound and cheaper price win out.

Braven BRV-1

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased the Braven BRR-1 because we wanted a more rugged bluetooth player for working outside and to take on trips with us. We previously had a Braven 600, which we used outside and which broke because of that use. The BRV-1 came nicely packaged, the design is simple and it is easy to use. It seems quality built, we shall see how it works out. The unit itself has impressive sound. We played it for several of our friends who where floored by how nice it sounded. The unit also has good range for connecting, we tested from one end of our house to another, roughly 75 feet, and there was no change in the quality.
Pros:
Simple Design, easy to use, durable, great sound
Cons:
none so far

Nice little speaker

Written By JP, Mission, TX on Tuesday, June 25, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speaker is great indoors, yet u have to be within close proximity outdoors to be able to hear the music. Bbq's would be great and maybe even pools. You just can't be more than 10 to 15 feet at the pool in order to enjoy the music. As for the beach, we had to be at least 5 to 6 feet away before the sound would almost completely diminish. It's a small speaker so this is expected I guess. As for the sound quality, there is no distortion what so ever even at the loudest setting, it even has some good bass almost like it my have a mini subwoofer. The fact that it is Bluetooth makes it very convenient, as well as its ability to charge other electronics. You can also use it for 12hrs on a single charge which is a great plus!
Pros:
"Durability" is great Able charge other electronics Bluetooth capability 12h/charge Small enough to carry anywhere Almost perfect in close proximity
Cons:
Hard to hear clearly outdoors in certain settings

Great Backpacking Buddy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently saw this little guy in the Crutchfield retail store and was really impressed with how big it sounded and thought it would be nice to take on camping / backpacking trips. All I can say is, WOW! Not only is it rugged, water resistant, and sounds incredible, but it also can act as a spare battery for my phone (which I use for GPS). I just got back from a two day trip and had great tunes for the whole trip and some battery left to spare! Great product and a perfect fit for anyone who likes to get out and play!
Pros:
BIG Sound, Rugged, Extra Battery is a life saver!
Cons:
NONE. Get it.

1 question already asked

Have been looking for a speaker to carry in my car to bring to parties and use for my bonfires, but need something that is (obviously) loud, and can't seem to find a decent speaker in my price range(under 150). How do you think this would work? [ Collin  Feb 23, 2014 ]
