About the ClearView Phoenix View 8-Channel Kit

James Ralston

A pro-quality all-digital security system

Need to keep tabs on your home or place of business? ClearView's Phoenix View kits offer dependable, secure, professional-quality video surveillance. This eight-channel kit includes an NVR (network video recorder) and eight "IP" cameras which connect to the recorder via Ethernet connections. Known as PoE (Power over Ethernet), this type of connection carries power to the camera as well as passing video signals back to the recorder. PoE camera systems are ideal for installations where longer cable runs are required. Plus, digital IP cameras offer high-resolution recording, so they're recommended when details like facial recognition are important.

The included NVR gives you a range of configurable recording options for saving and reviewing your surveillance footage, and its built-in dual-core processor allows it to capture smooth video from all eight connected cameras at once. ClearView's robust, highly tweakable system lets you view real-time video either on directly connected monitors or TVs (not included), or remotely via the Internet or a local network using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Keep an eye on 8 zones at once

Monitor up to eight areas in and around your home, including exterior doorways, foyers and hallways, your garage, and more. This Phoenix View kit includes four dome cameras (usually ceiling-mounted) and four bullet cameras (usually wall-mounted) for flexible placement options. Both camera models are dustproof and waterproof for safe use in outdoor environments. Low-light conditions are not a problem, either, thanks to built-in IR (infrared) emitters, which allow night vision monitoring and recording at a range of up to 65 feet in total darkness.

Highly configurable recording and monitoring

ClearView NVR systems can be programmed to record continuously, or at scheduled times, or when triggered by motion detection. Recording quality is adjustable, with six selectable settings to choose from. Use higher quality settings for better video clarity and detail, or lower settings for more recording time. The system comes with a replaceable 1TB hard drive which can store up to thousands of hours of video, depending on your settings. ClearView's Phoenix model NVR has two SATA hard drive bays, so you can upgrade to as much as 6 terabytes of storage with optional hard drives (not included).

Watch all eight surveillance zones, or zoom in on a single zone. You can configure the system to send you emails to alert you to specific events, like motion being detected, alarms being activated (requires optional compatible alarms, not included), or the NVR running out of hard disk space. A handy pre-record buffer captures between 1 and 30 seconds of video prior to motion detection being activated — great for actually getting a view of whatever or whoever is moving around in your monitored zone.

The package also includes eight cameras: four IP-72 dome cameras and four IP-73 bullet cameras. The NVR lets you simultaneously record video from the eight included cameras. It has a network connection (RJ-45), a VGA port and an HDMI port to let you monitor the system in real time. This system is ideal for use in home or retail settings.

1 TB Capacity: The Phoenix-08 NVR includes a built-in 1 TB HDD (hard disk drive) that gives you thousands of hours of storage. You can expand the capacity of the NVR by installing an additional SATA HDD up to 6 TB in the available slot on the front panel. There is also an eSATA input for adding an external SATA HDD up to 12 TB. Up to 4 SATA HDDs can be used with the Phoenix-08 NVR.

Operating System: The Phoenix-08 has an embedded LINUX operating system to maintain stable operation.

Digital Watermark: The video recorded on the NVR contains a digital watermark, which is required by courts for video to be allowed as evidence. It also has a time/date stamp.

Included Cameras: The Phoenix View NVR kit includes eight cameras: four IP-73 IR dome cameras and four IP-72 IR bullet cameras. The package also includes a 100' cable (for power and video signal) for each camera. Camera features include:

Phoenix-08 NVR: The Phoenix-08 NVR lets you monitor and record (at up to 30 fps) up to eight channels of video from the remotely-mounted cameras. The unit also has a single RCA audio input for use with an optional microphone. (The included cameras are not audio capable.) You can set up the NVR to perform motion detection recording, scheduled recording, alarm recording, and manual recording.

Monitoring: You can monitor all eight cameras at the same time, any four cameras simultaneously, or any of the cameras individually.

Privacy Masking: If there are areas in the camera's view that you do not wish to show, you can use privacy masking to obscure those areas. Up to 4 zones per camera can be selected for privacy masking.

Pan Tilt Zoom: When PTZ-capable cameras are connected, you can set up each camera to pan and tilt up/down/left/right in a constant pattern, or when an alarm is triggered. You can also control the panning speed, zoom, focus, and iris. None of the included cameras are PTZ-capable.

Network Operation: The Phoenix-08 supports real-time monitoring via a network connection. You will be able to monitor on a PC as a web viewer, as part of a CMS (central management system), or on a smartphone app (iPhone, iPad, Android, or Windows Phone). In addition, you can perform video recording searches remotely, and control the pan, tilt, and zoom (PTZ) action on compatible cameras.

Video Playback: When you are ready to play back recordings, you can search by time, type, or channel. Videos can be played back at normal speed, fast play, slow play, manual frame-by-frame playback, and reverse play. You can switch to the previous or next file, or any file in the current play list. If there are files from another channel recorded at the same time, you can immediately switch to that file. All channel synchronous real time playback is also available. In continuous play mode, the next file automatically plays when the current file ends.

Backup: The Phoenix-08 allows you to backup your HDD via the provided USB ports. You can use a flash drive, portable HDD, or a disk burner. You can also perform backup to the cloud via network download for off-site storage.

    Customer Q&A

    2 questions already asked

    Q
My concern is the flexibility in camera placement and only being limited to 100' of the main unit. Is there a way to hide the wiring and extend the camera placement beyond 100'?

    A
Don: Not really sure about extending the CAT 5 cable past 100'. I only used the 100' rolls that came with the unit, but I would just email Clearview / IC Realtime (the same company) and ask them. CAT 5 should be CAT 5 whether it's 100' or 1000' but their IT support guys would know. Emailing them does work. I had a laundry list of questions asked and answered before I dropped $2000 on this unit.

    Q
The details of this camera system state -- PoE Ports: Four RJ-45 jacks for connecting cameras (Power over Ethernet) Question is how do you power the other 4 cameras in there are only four RJ-45 jacks on the NVR?
    jason  Sep 04, 2015
    1 answer
    A
A switch that connects to your network is provided with the kit. It makes it very convenient in the fact that you can run 4 camera wires to iit, especially iff you have cameras far from the NVR
