Not Worth the Price

Written by: Jmike from Rockville Md on February 5, 2013

Honestly, Beats Pros are a decent pair of headphones. It is higher quality than a lot of in-ear headphones and you'll have (Slightly) above-average sound quality.

But for the price, I should love these headphones and the honest truth is I don't.

They are uncomfortable to wear after 2+ hours, they are WAY to heavy on the bass, and the sound quality is meh. These headphones should be priced at around $80-$100, tops. Their only pro (no pun intended) is that they look decent. Granted you will look like a total jerk wearing them in public but they look half decent to me.

And if you want to waste your money on an average pair of headphones, please, be my guest.

I know Beats look cool but seriously, do you really want to spend this much on a pair of average headphones when you could get better headphones for a lot less?

Beats are all hype. If you want some real headphones check out Bose, Sennheiser, or Sony.

Pros: Very Sturdy Stay on head

Cons: Over-Priced Very Uncomfortable after 2+ hours Not very portable Sound Quality is only slightly above average

BeatsT ProT Headphones

Similar to other head phones in this price range, the audio quality is outstanding. When listening from a personal computer the range is nearly complete, if you are a bass fanatic I would recommend getting a decent amplifier.

Personal listening includes: pop, classical, jazz, and R&B with an amp. While listening to pop the instruments are easily distinguishable and the artist is singing to you. The bass is rich and not overwhelming, while the highs are crisp and the mid-range is super clear. The classical genre could easily be described as a "whole new world". Clarity is phenomenal in every way and for each section - strings vs. brass, etc. As for jazz, many songs in my library are from vinyl, the headphones defiantly emphasis the recording quality. I found most of my favorite tracks were higher quality. So the headphones are helping sort good recordings from the bad. R&B listening is revolutionary, like many classical pieces; there are new sounds which were too distorted to distinguish with cheap headphones.

I also tried driving the speakers with my 3rd gen. iPod nano [without an in-line amp]. The mid-range was crisp and highs were OK, but the bass was underpowered/non-existent. Bottom line, if you want to go to the weight room or on a walk with headphones look for something requiring less power - smaller speakers. On the other hand, if you are dying for amazing quality sound with some sacrifice [see cons below] these are the right dr. dre headphones for you.

Pros: a) Great sound quality with an amplifier [see review above]. b) They should stand the test of time with the aluminum frame and plush ear cushions. c) The noise is suppression is impressive as there Beats are not noise canceling. With the volume extremely low I can barely hear some one speaking 10' feet away. I have not tried them in flight, will test within the month.

Cons: a) The quality costs - $ + an amplifier. b) Here is the sacrifice - weight - after an hour or more I have a slight headache due to the pressure on top of my head. This subsides with time of wear hopefully. c) To be determined as a con or pro is the compression on the ears, the ear pieces are snug causing a minor compression headache. -Will try to give an update in 6 months.

"So, I got these "Beats Headphones from Dr. Dre," let me just say, amazing! The sound coming from these headphones, rivals sitting in your neighbors trunk rattler, without all the trunk rattling of course! Feels like your at a concert, or night club! Professional quality! Colgate smile here, from ear to ear!"

Pros: "Sounds great, feels super comfy, can listen for long periods of time, and if looks could kill... These would!"

Cons: "They are a bit on the heavy side, after an hour or so of use, but other than that, good luck finding anything wrong with these headphones!"

Product Research

Overview: The Beats Pro headphones have been acoustically tuned for use in professional recording studios, performance venues, and clubs. You can also use them in your home or office. Beats Pro headphones utilize rugged metal construction to ensure durability and resist unwanted vibrations. The headphones' heavily padded ear cushions are ultra-comfortable for long listening sessions. They also provide passive sound isolation. The Beats Pro features input/output connections to let you daisy-chain headphones and share mixes.

Construction: The Beats Pro headphones are built with an aluminum gunmetal frame for extreme durability. The solid aluminum and steel construction means the headphones won't resonate and introduce artifacts that interfere with the sound.

Professional Sound: The Beats Pro headphones are equipped with high-quality drivers and advanced materials to deliver the wide, flat frequency response of studio monitors for accurate recording, mixing, and playback.

Passive Sound Isolation: The headphones are equipped with heavily padded leather ear cushions to create a high degree of sound isolation. You get excellent noise reduction without the need for power switches or batteries. The pivoting ear cups also provide an excellent fit.

Comfortable Padding: The Beats Pro headphones feature plush ear cushions that offer maximum comfort and minimal ear fatigue. The headphones also include a padded, adjustable headband.

Rotating Ear Cups: The Beats Pro has backward-rotating ear cups that allow you to monitor the room or carry on a conversation with the headphones on your head at all times. The hinges above both ear cups rotate 180° to give you the ability to pivot the ear cup to listen to outside noise without having to remove your headphones. When not in use, you can rotate both ear cups and store your headphones in the included cloth pouch.

Dual Cable Ports: The Beats Pro headphones include a cable port on each ear cup to allow you to attach the cable on either side. Both connectors have a locking collar that works with the included Audio-only cable. The dual ports also allow you to daisy-chain your Beats Pros with other headphones. You can share the audio signal with other users when two headphone outputs are not available or within reach.

Included Cables: The Beats Pro headphones include two cables, both with right-angled 3.5mm miniplug terminals that will fit most any portable device, even through the protective case:

  • RemoteTalk: The 54" straight RemoteTalk cable features an in-line microphone and 3-button remote. The remote is fully compatible with iPhone, iPod, and iPad, and partially compatible with HTC, Blackberry, and Android devices. The outer buttons control volume up and volume down (iOS devices only), while the center button controls phone calls and music playback. With one press, you can answer or hang up a phone call, and play or pause your music. Two presses during music playback skips forward to the next track. Three presses skips backwards to the beginning of the currently playing track or the previous track. The RemoteTalk cable has a 3.5mm terminal.
  • Audio Cable: The partially-coiled Audio-only cable is approximately 5' long and slightly thicker than the RemoteTalk cable. It includes a special connector that locks into the headphones to keep it securely plugged in. The 3" coiled portion is near the device end to help alleviate tension and prevent accidental disconnects. It also includes a 3.5mm-to-1/4" plug adapter tethered to it.

Cleaning Cloth: The Beats Pro includes a soft cleaning cloth to help keep your headphones like new.
