Whether you're watching movies or listening to music in your home theater, don't shortchange yourself on the low end. Get plenty of deep bass with the powerful yet compact MartinLogan Dynamo 500. Its 10-inch front-firing driver and 120-watt amplifier will help fill in those low frequencies that even most tower speakers can't quite reproduce. Movie effects will have more impact and music will sound fuller and richer with this subwoofer on the job.
The Dynamo 500 offers rear-panel volume control, phase switch, and crossover control with a bypass switch.
As a preeminent speaker manufacturer, MartinLogan knows great bass is about more than just quantity. So they designed the Dynamo 500 to deliver excellent bass accuracy as well. Both the driver structure and the built-in amp are configured to minimize distortion and noise, so this sub's bass output is not only ample, but clean and tight as well. Two rear ports efficiently enhance the low-frequency output without introducing port-induced distortion. This ensures the Dynamo 500 is a great match for both movies and music, not to mention MartinLogan's impressive lineup of speakers.

A powered subwoofer gives you bass you can feel as well as hear. Our customers love the depth and impact their subs add to music and movies. We hear comments like "it brings out sounds I didn't know existed in discs I've watched a million times." Powered subwoofers aren't just for big bass that rattles your picture frames; they can also deliver tight, accurate lows. If you haven't shopped for a powered sub in a while, you might be surprised at how small they get. Look for an ultra-compact model if you want to tuck your sub away under an end table or in a corner.
I checked this unit with Yamaha A S-1000 amplifier by connecting to the pre-amp out without connecting any other speakers. Sounded all right. Then, I tried how the crossover between this unit with a pair of MartinLogan Motion 40 main speakers by setting the low-pass filter a halfway (50-120 Hz adjustable). Since Motion 40 curtails at 50 Hz, I believe it makes seamless and sounded so. (I am not a sound expert and my low frequency listening limit is somewhere 40 Hz).
However, the front cover finish and construction is cheap for the price tag. I also like to see the same finishes and colors as Motion series speakers. Automatic power on/off response is slow too.
Pros: Crossover performance and adjustable feature for variety of main speakers
Cons: Cheap front construction and poor packing. MartinLogan in general- they need better protection of expensive and delicate equipment against rough handing.
Quality built throughout. One of the best sub woofers on the market today, great value. Crutchfield service never disappoints!
I replace my old Dev tech 12 sub that went out on me with this new Dynamo 500, I actually was looking at SVS but could not get my self to shell out that kind of cash. I originally bought Two of these subs thinking that where was no way this sub could produce the levels of base I was looking for. "Boy was I wrong " i hooked up the Dynamo and put on some Imagine Dragons and cranked it up I could feel the base produced from this sub just standing in the room. Not only dose it produce hart pounding base, it is also musically accurate! not muddy or boomy like some of the other subs i have heard like the klipsh. Bottom line I only need one, and returned the other back to the store.
Pros: Great sound and output.
Cons: Wish it was wireless :)
I just moved into a ranch home with a very open floor plan. I wanted a compact system that would sound great, and that I would be able to enjoy from anywhere in the house. Especially since I'm sparse in my taste in furniture, this plus the matching bookshelf speakers is a perfect solution. Amazing sound in my living room, and good sound filtering through the rest of the house. The sub makes all the difference.

Dynamo Series Powered Subwoofer: Perfect for either home theater or stereo applications, the MartinLogan Dynamo 500 powered subwoofer is solidly built with high-density materials to minimize cabinet resonance and provide a foundation for the high-output 10" woofer and high-current 120-watt RMS (360-watt peak) amplifier. Additionally, dual rear-mounted low-turbulence ports maximize bass output while minimizing port induced distortion.
120-Watt RMS (360-Watt Peak) Amplifier: The MartinLogan Dynamo 500's amplifier belongs to a recently-developed class of switch-mode designs that incorporate a variety of innovative techniques to reduce noise, distortion, and heat to the lowest possible levels. In particular, the switching frequency is much higher than in typical subwoofer amplifiers of this type, providing a tremendous true 120-watts continuously (360-watts peak) with extremely low distortion.
Low-Distortion 10" Woofer: The Dynamo 500's high-resolution front-firing driver combines a 10" polypropylene cone with a high-intensity magnet structure to achieve huge excursion and output capability without sacrificing detail. By eliminating cone flexure, even at long voice-coil excursions, the Dynamo 500's advanced-technology bass driver achieves the very low distortion necessary for proper blending with MartinLogan's Folded Motion and electrostatic speakers.
High-Density Cabinet Construction: The powered subwoofer's cabinet is constructed from the finest composite material for acoustical integrity and is finished with an attractive wood-grain vinyl coating.
Dual Low-Turbulence Ports: Ports are a convenient and cost-effective way of increasing low-frequency output. The Dynamo 500's dual low-turbulence ports are carefully designed to provide superb low-end efficiency while minimizing port induced distortion.
Seamless System Integration: Comprehensive connection options, low-pass filtering, and phase control make integrating the Dynamo 500 subwoofer into a multichannel home theater or stereo music setup simple and seamless. The main left/right line-level inputs feed into a precision low-pass filter with a cut-off frequency variable from 50 to 200 Hz. For systems in which the AV receiver supplies the low-pass crossover, the Dynamo 500 offers an LFE input that bypasses its internal filters. The phase control can be set to 0- or 180-degrees.
Auto Power On/Off: The powered subwoofer will automatically enter a power saving mode when no audio signal is detected. The subwoofer will automatically come out of power saving mode when an audio signal is detected.
Break-In Period: The Dynamo 500 woofer requires approximately 50 hours of break-in at moderate listening levels before its optimal performance occurs. This will factor in on any critical listening and judgment.
