Ever have trouble finding the perfect spot for your sub? Well, with MartinLogan's Dynamo 700W subwoofer, you'll have lots of options. This versatile sub's standard down-firing setup is perfect for placing it in corners or along side walls. But if you're looking for a more discreet placement such as in a cabinet with your other home theater gear, you can easily convert it into a front-firing sub by simply removing and reorienting its detachable feet.

MartinLogan Dynamo 1500X converting from front- to down-firing.

Wireless convenience right out of the box

Even if you're willing to place your sub far from your receiver, you might not want a long wire running between the two. No worries, thanks to the 700W's built-in wireless receiver and included transmitter. So you can feel those deep rumbling movie sound effects without tripping over a cable when you get up to get more popcorn.

Not just for explosive movie soundtracks

When you add a subwoofer to your full-range speaker system, your movies and music will sound fuller and more dramatic. The Dynamo 700W accomplishes this without taking up valuable real estate in your living room or home theater. The sealed enclosure is constructed of high-density materials and reinforced with solid internal bracing to minimize cabinet resonance for cleaner sound. The 10-inch speaker is driven by a high-powered built-in amplifier that delivers 300 watts of continuous, clean power. Both are optimized for low noise and distortion, to produce bass that is not only bold, but detailed and tight rather than loose and boomy. That makes this sub a great performer with movies and music — not to mention a great match with MartinLogan's fine lineup of full-range speakers.

The Dynamo 700W's detachable feet let you easily orient the woofer in a down- or front-firing configuration.

Features

Dynamo Series Powered Subwoofer: The MartinLogan Dynamo 700w powered subwoofer offers audiophile grade performance and home-friendly aesthetics. Featuring a high-current 300-watt RMS (600-watt peak) amplifier and a 10" cone driver, the Dynamo 700w delivers deep, tight, effortless bass for movie and music soundtracks. It can be configured as a down-firing or front-firing powered sub. The 700w offers both a wired and wireless powered subwoofer connection to your home AV entertainment system.

Advanced, Ultra-Efficient 300-Watt Amp: The Dynamo 700w's ultra-efficient, high-power amplifier uses variable audio tracking power supplies to drive its class AB output stage. With lower distortion and less noise than typical Class D switching amplifiers, this advanced design allows the amplifier to operate at much higher efficiencies than a typical class AB amplifier, delivering a true 300-watts of continuous power (600-watts peak).

High-Resolution, Low-Distortion 10" Woofer: The Dynamo 700w's advanced-technology driver pairs a high-power magnet structure with a 10" poly diaphragm to deliver huge excursion and sound output while perfectly preserving the tiniest bass detail; and all without a hint of distortion. The exceptional damping properties of the poly cone material also ensure the smooth, non-resonant response necessary for truly seamless blending with MartinLogan's electrostatic panel and Folded Motion driver technologies found in their loudspeakers.

Inverse Mathematical Equalization (IME) Filtering: An IME filter is derived from the inverse of the unfiltered driver response. Precision IME filtering yields extremely accurate low-frequency response; far superior to that provided by the simple second-order high-Q filters typically found in subwoofers in this price range.

Sealed Cabinet w/ Internal Bracing: On the outside, the Dynamo 700w's cabinet is constructed from the finest composite material for acoustic integrity. Inside, critically placed structural cross-bracing acts an excellent baffle for the woofer while the added rigidity keeps cabinet-induced resonances and non-linearities to inaudible levels. As a result the MartinLogan Dynamo 700w maintains a smooth, consistent response regardless of music or movie source material.

Front-Firing or Down-Firing Configuration: To maximize performance when installed inside of a cabinet or other discrete installation, the Dynamo 700w's standard down-firing configuration easily converts into a front-firing orientation; no tools required. A grille cover and 90-degree RCA adaptors are provided for use in front-firing applications. Dimensions:

  • Down-Firing Orientation (default): 11.6875" (w) x 12.5625" (h) x 12.875" (d)
  • Front-Firing Orientation: 11.6875" (w) x 13.5" (h) x 12.3125" (d)
Note: If placing the powered subwoofer inside of a cabinet, it is recommended that there be a minimum of 3" of open space between the cabinet and the front and back sides of the powered sub.

Seamless System Integration: Comprehensive connection options, low-pass filtering, and phase control make integrating the Dynamo 700w subwoofer into a multi-channel home theater or stereo music setup simple and seamless. The main left/right line-level inputs feed into a precision low-pass filter with a cut-off frequency variable from 35 to 120 Hz. For systems in which the AV receiver supplies the low-pass crossover, the Dynamo 700w offers an LFE input that bypasses its internal filters. The phase control can be set to 0, 90, or 180-degrees.

Built-in Wireless Receiver: Although correct placement plays a key role in optimizing subwoofer performance, sometimes it imposes the inconvenience of running long lengths of cable through walls, along baseboards, or under floors and carpets. To solve the problem, the Dynamo 700w incorporates a wireless receiver (digital RF transmission) for use with the included SWT-2 MartinLogan Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter which plugs into the subwoofer or LFE output of your home receiver or active soundbar speaker via stereo RCA (cable not included).

Note: You cannot add additional wireless receivers, transmitters, or subwoofers to this system.

Energy Transfer Coupler (ETC) Spikes: The Dynamo 700w comes with custom ETC spikes which can be used along with the pre-installed rubber feet to enhance stability on thick carpets, or create tighter coupling between subwoofer and floor to enhance overall sound quality. The spiked feet add 0.625" of height to the powered sub.

Auto Power On/Off: The powered subwoofer will automatically enter a power saving mode when no audio signal is detected. The subwoofer will automatically come out of power saving mode when an audio signal is detected.

Break-In Period: The Dynamo 700w woofer requires approximately 50 hours of break-in at moderate listening levels before its optimal performance occurs. This will factor in on any critical listening and judgment.

Q
does this model come in white color? if not can it be painted? what about grill cloth? wife needs it to blend in with decor!!??

I'm sorry I don't know. I have ML speakers and the finish on them is incredible. So unless you are very talented or want to have a professional paint them I wouldn't bother. They are like a very expensive piece of furniture.
glen  Nov 09, 2017
A
Disregard the Bose recommendation. The Definitive Technology Prosub 800 in white is a proper recommendation for a powered sub.
rodney  Nov 07, 2017
A
It does not come in white. It can be painted but i would go a different route. I would remove the control panel and woofer, take the cabinet to an automotive shop that does vinyl wrap and have them wrap it. Reinstall the components and put the legs on to configure the woofer in the down firing position. Another option is to go with a white Bose Acoustimass 300.
rodney  Nov 07, 2017

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT WHITE BUT I KNOW IT CAN BE PAINTED/JUST SAND IT LIGHTLY WITH VERY FINE SAND PAPER,PROTECT THE DRIVER AND THE CONTROLS AND APPLY 3 LAYERS OR MORE OF SPRAY PAINT /GET GOOD SPRAY PAINT -NO DRIP HI COVERING POWER

Q
Can two of these be connected wirelessy to a capable receiver? I have an Yamaha RX-A3070 receiver and would like dual subs for my system. Thanks.

A
If that receiver has either two outputs to right and left or front and rear dedicated to sub woofers. The answer is yes.If it does not have but one sub out then you would have to connect between L and R or Back to front main spkrs and that would possibly interfere with the mains spkrs dynamics.GL,BC

I'm using an old receiver, a Nakamichi Stasis TA 3A as a preamp with my beloved Adcom 555 amp. Spk wire already run under the carpet to my 2 Coincident spkrs. How would I hook this up? Long RCA cables across the room are not an option. Thanks. John from Texas

Q
When operating the sub in wireless mode, does the wireless transmitter have to be wired to the pre-amp/receiver?
john  Jan 03, 2017

A
Yes, it has to be wired to the preamp.
czeslaw  Jan 04, 2017
A
Yes, it's a little box that you connect to your pre-outs or sub woofer out and to an 110 outlet. It has a blue pilot light as does the back of the amp/speaker. The unit goes to sleep after a short period of no signal. Actually, I can't tell the difference between this unit and the hard-wired unit I have on another system.
steven  Jan 03, 2017
A
YES.... It plugs into one of the Sub inputs on the receiver. This sub is amazing and needs time to "burn in," meaning after a few weeks of solid use it really comes into it's own! I do wish it weighed more...
joel  Jan 03, 2017
A
Yes, you plug it into the sub pre-out just like you would normally do with the subwoofer. You also need to plug it into an outlet for power.
michael  Jan 03, 2017
A
yes, the transmitter transmits the signal wirelessly to the sub.

Q
How do I size a receiver for this?
brandt  Nov 19, 2015

A
I'm not really sure how to answer this except to say that mine is matched up to a McIntosh MA 5200 and it works just fine, but the room is rather small (14x14 w 10' ceiling) so I don't crank the sub up but a little.
steven  Nov 20, 2015
A
Yo don't. It has a built in amp. You size the sub to the room.
jeffrey  Nov 20, 2015
A
Unfortunately I cannot be of assistance. I purchased my speakers for a move and they are still in the factory packaging. Sorry
michael h  Nov 20, 2015
A
The sub is self powered. You just need to connect to your sub pre amp out or LFE. Also this sub is wireless.
calvin l.  Nov 20, 2015
A
Since the Dynamo is a powered subwoofer it should not draw off the receiver. I have a 8 year old H/K receiver with 75 watts per channel. I played the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony and there was absolutely no problem. The wood floor literally shook due to the down firing bass driver. It is also great due it is wireless capability with no wires running from the unit,
gordon f.  Nov 20, 2015
A
You can get any receiver. It has gain so you can shape the sound to come in soft for low power or hard for big power.
