MartinLogan's Motion 30 center channel delivers clear, accurate movie dialogue and robust sound effects for a home theater experience that's truly cinema-like. This speaker takes advantage of one of MartinLogan's most advanced technologies, the Folded Motion™ tweeter, to create detailed, dynamic center channel sound that immerses you in the on-screen action. This speaker's clear, open sound makes it a perfect center channel partner to MartinLogan's Motion 30 floor-standing speakers.
MartinLogan's advanced Folded Motion tweeter produces clear, open highs.
MartinLogan's innovative Folded Motion tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works like an accordion by "squeezing" air to create sound. It requires about 90% less excursion than a typical 1" dome tweeter, resulting in quicker response time and much lower distortion. The tweeter's controlled sound dispersion creates a focused soundstage with a real sense of presence. Voices, effects, and music all come through with lifelike clarity and texture, but without a trace of harshness.
The Motion 30 uses dual 5-1/2" aluminum cone woofers to supply fast, clean midrange and lower-mid frequencies that blend in seamlessly with the Folded Motion tweeter. A low-turbulence rear-firing port extends bass performance, but keeps it tight and tuneful.
This center channel speaker is sized to fit inside most standard audio-video cabinets. The speaker's angled enclosure is a nice touch for versatility. No matter where you place it, you can direct the sound toward your ears. Place it beneath your TV firing up toward your listening position, or mount it high and flip the cabinet upside down to aim sound down into the room.
The center channel speaker is the workhorse in a home theater system. It has to reproduce clear dialogue and special effects that keep your eyes and ears glued to the movie action. A high-quality center speaker is a great investment for any surround sound setup. Try to choose one that's as closely matched as possible to your front right and left speakers, so that as sound moves across the front stage, it stays seamlessly realistic.
Purchased the ML motion 30 . The clarity of this center channel is truly great . Matches my motion 60xt !
Pros: All around good center channel . Worth the money.
I upgraded to this center channel speaker in order to replace a rather old Bose VCS-10. It served me well for years, so not to bash Bose, but the VCS-10 sounds like a tin can string phone compared to the Martin Logan's clarity and vibrant tones. I know $700 bones sounds like a lot to spend on a center channel speaker; and it is. But when you consider every word of every movie or television show you watch passes through it, the cost is certainly deferred over its lifetime. At least that is what I tell myself....lol
Either way, it is a beautiful, well-made speaker and I am glad that I made the purchase. It has made my TV and movie watching experience much better. And songs that are well suited for 5.1 (or greater) processing sound exceptionally solid.
Pros: Great clarity with a gorgeous finish.
Cons: A little pricey for a speaker that is mainly used for movies and TV. IMO, older artist/recordings don't sound as powerful/full in surround, so any center channel's use is limited if you primarily use your system for music over movies. But if you love your music in surround or run the neighborhood movie theater, stop reading this and buy this speaker.
I have Motion 40's in front and Motion 20's in back. This speaker matches up perfectly and is small and compact. Great sound and clarity.
Pros: Small and compact. Matches perfectly with other Motion speakers. Great Clarity
Excellent center channel spear. Clear crisp dialogue blends well to create a good family room moving watching experience.
Pros: Sound quality and build quality are both very good
Cons: Maybe a little too deep to fit perfectly on some mantles (which is probably the dominate installation spot for this speaker.)
Very good sound quality. Have it hooked up with a Marantz receiver, ML Motion 40 and ML's in the back and ML sub. Spent more than planned, but needed the range and quality that this speaker delivers. Considered the Motion 8 until I tested this one. Looks good too. Very happy with decision.
Pros: Sound quality, highs, mids and lows....great pressence for a center channel.
This is an exceptional center channel speaker and a great additional to my new home theater system. The binding posts are unique, very robust, and easy to use. The gloss finish of the cabinet gives a great high end look. The magnetic grill cover is very well made and fits great. The 3 drivers installed in the cabinet all handle difference frequencies. The internal crossover sends the highs to the folded ribbon tweeter, the driver on the left handles the midrange, and the driver on the right handles the low frequencies. Dialogue in movies and television is crystal clear. Music even sounds great. The folded motion tweeter sounds crystal clear and bright without being overwhelming or growing tiresome of the highs. My Audyssey set the center speaker as large and currently passes all frequencies down to 40hz to the speaker. I was surprised at this setting, but it just performs no matter what crossover setting I throw at it. Even at full range it sounds great. The Motion 30 replaced my old Bose VCS-10 and there is really no comparison between the two. The only analogy I can provide is that the Bose sounds like an 80's alarm clock compared to the Martin Logan Motion 30 center channel speaker.

Folded Motion Tweeter: MartinLogan's Folded Motion tweeter helps give the Motion 30 center channel loudspeaker its natural, realistic high frequency sound. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (8x that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, dynamic, and precise sound. The 1" x 1.4" Folded Motion tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lightning fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion (80°x80°) to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.
Dual Aluminum Cone Woofers w/ Rear-Firing Port: Two 5.5" aluminum cone woofers with a cast polymer basket housed in a non-resonant asymmetrical chamber flank the Motion 30 center channel speaker's Folded Motion tweeter. The aluminum cone woofers use a rigid structured dust cap and butyl rubber surround to reduce cone break-up and distortion. The two 5.5" woofers are paired with a rear-firing bass port to deliver higher output and audibly richer, deeper bass performance.
Precision Crossover: To seamlessly blend the audio output from the high frequency driver (tweeter) and the two midbass drivers (woofer), the Motion 30 loudspeaker features a precision crossover utilizing custom air core coil and low DCR steel laminate inductors, polyester film capacitors in series, and low DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel.
High-Gloss Cabinet: Complementing the Motion 30 loudspeaker's sonic accuracy is its elegant, yet understated styling. A high-gloss, piano black or black cherrywood finish, along with MartinLogan's signature perforated grille, give the Motion 30 speaker an elegant and timeless look that will blend into almost any decor. The speaker cabinet also features smooth, rounded edges.
Binding Posts: MartinLogan's proprietary tool-less binding posts simplify cable connection and management. The binding posts will accept bare wire (16- to 10-gauge), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single only).
Placement: The MartinLogan Motion 30 should be centered below or above your television on flat-surface; such as a table-top, stand, cabinet, or shelf. The center channel speaker comes with 4 rubber self-adhesive feet to help secure it in place, prevent slippage, and reduce vibration.
Break-in Period: Allow approximately 72 hours of break-in at 90 dB (moderate listening levels) before any critical listening.
