Plenty of volume, plenty of value
Building a loudspeaker system can be an expensive proposition -- but it doesn't have to be. Yamaha's BR Series speakers give you the sound you need and the rugged reliability you want, all at a price you'll like. Whether you're buying equipment for your band, school or house of worship, these Yamahas offer a remarkable combination of performance and value.
The BR12 PA speaker is a compact, but powerful unit that's surprisingly easy to move. "BR" stands for "Bass Reflex," so you can count on powerful low-frequency performance from the 12" woofer in its ported cabinet. High frequencies are handled beautifully by a 1" titanium tweeter housed in a 90° by 40° non-resonant horn. Descended from Yamaha's acclaimed Concert Club speakers, the BR Series is a terrific choice for anyone looking for great sound in a small- to medium-sized venue. The built-in pole socket accepts any standard 1-3/8" speaker stand or pole.
Ready to hit the road
The life of a loudspeaker can be rough at times, but the BR12 will stand up to the rigors of the road. The carpeted exterior protects a rugged cabinet that's precision-cut and hand-assembled. The subtle exterior styling fits into any venue, but these speakers are tough enough to be shoved into a van or moved across the room. Sturdy steel grilles protect the woofer during transport, while big, easy-to-grab steel handles and rugged steel corner protectors give you mobility and durability.

How do I find the right amp for a PA speaker?
PA systems work like any other audio system: send as much power as the speaker can handle, and you'll get the best possible sound quality at all dynamic levels. More power yields deeper, richer, and more satisfying sound -- even at low volumes. It's actually easier to damage speaker components with distortion from cranked-up low power than it is from clean high power. For PA equipment specifically, you can safely use an amplifier whose continuous power output is rated up to double the rated program power capacity of the speaker.

Two-Way Speaker Design: The BR series speaker employs a two-way driver design with a horn-loaded 1" titanium tweeter and 12" high performance woofer.
- Horn-Loaded Tweeter: A pure titanium 1" compression driver is mounted to a 90°x 40° non-resonant, constant directivity horn with the goal of minimizing radiation pattern deterioration in oblique directions as more conventional horns are prone to doing. This can help to achieve a more ideal coverage area without irregularities. With the new wide dispersion constant directivity horn, sound expands in a more rectangular pattern providing 90° horizontal x 40° vertical coverage, with wide-frequency sound projected to the edges of the coverage area.
- 12" Woofer: A high power 12" woofer provides deep bass response with low distortion for great sound.
Note: The YSP (Yamaha Speaker Processing) switch provided on Yamaha EMX series mixers and P series amplifiers can be used to achieve optimum matching for significantly enhanced sound.
Rugged Bass-Reflex Cabinet: The cabinet is carefully designed for the best balance of small, easy to handle size and great low-frequency response, using Bass Reflex technology. The front grille has been enhanced in terms of both design and durability. In addition to a carpeted finish, the tough exterior features steel corner protectors and heavy duty metal handles for improved portability and durability. The BR series has been designed for the rigors of daily use in a portable sound reinforcement system.
Dual 1/4" Phone Jacks: The BR series speaker provides dual 1/4" phone jacks for input and parallel connection. Use one phone jack to receive input from your sound system/power amplifier. The other phone jack can be used to parallel-connect an additional speaker. You can set up a simple but high-performance PA system just by connecting a pair of these speakers to an EMX series powered mixer (sold separately). Or you could use BR series speakers in conjunction with a P series power amplifier and MG series mixing console (both sold separately) to create a range of very versatile live sound systems.
Note: When connecting speakers in parallel be sure to check the rated load impedance of the power amplifier. Most power amplifiers are capable of safely driving speakers with minimum impedance of 8 ohms or 4 ohms. A pair of parallel-connected 8 ohm speakers have a total impedance of 4 ohms. Two 8 ohm speakers can safely be paralleled on one output. 4 ohm speakers, however, should not be parallel-connected with other speakers. These models can be connected in parallel, however, if you are using a power amplifier that can safely drive load impedances of 2 ohms or lower.
Protection Circuitry: With integral protection circuitry built into the speaker's passive crossover, you can expect a long life of high output and minimal distortion. A self-resetting poly switch protects the high-frequency driver from damage caused by excessive power. If a loudspeaker cabinet loses high-frequency output, immediately remove power from the unit and wait for two to three minutes. This should be long enough to allow the poly switch to reset. Reapply power and check the performance of the high-frequency driver before continuing, with the power reduced to a level that does not cause the poly switch to interrupt the signal.
Applications & Mounting Options: The speaker features a 1.375" (35mm) pole socket for use with Yamaha's speaker stand (SS238C, sold separately) for easy positioning in a wide range of applications. The BR series speaker is a great choice for bands, clubs, halls, rehearsal studios, retail, or school events; anywhere you need great sound in a medium-scale application.
