Not your ordinary PA system

Yamaha's EMX-series mixers certainly do all the things you'd expect. They'll host, balance, equalize, and power a variety of sources, from microphones to stereo keyboards to media players. But they also go above and beyond the ordinary, providing features like full 7-band graphic equalization for both monitors and mains, and 16 of Yamaha's acclaimed digital signal processing effects, including chorus, flanging, and delay. Plus, Yamaha's exclusive speaker processing ensures clean, crisp highs and enhances low frequencies.

On-board compression helps you dial in your mix

Dynamic compression can be a helpful effect on certain channels in a live mix. But typically, routing individual channels to an outboard effects box can be a fussy and involved process. The EMX312SC solves that problem by including built-in advanced compressor circuits on the mono input channels, so you can dial in clean, musical compression on instruments and vocals with the twist of a single knob. It's just another way this powered mixer helps you save precious minutes during setup.

Engage a handy standby mode for a one-button switch to your set break. When you push it, it mutes all mono inputs while leaving a stereo pair live for playing background music. You can use the two built-in amps to power your two main speakers in stereo, or power your monitors and mains separately in mono.

    Features

EMX-Series Powered Mixer: The Yamaha EMX-series powered mixer integrated a mixer, power amplifier, graphic EQ, and digital effects into a single compact, portable unit. The entire system is optimized, so it's easy to get great sound just about anywhere. The cabinet design allows normal or angled placement for improved visibility and access. There is an integrated carry handle which makes it easy to take with you to your event. The EMX-series powered mixers not only meet worldwide safety and electronic emission standards, but they are also subject to more than sixty rigorous internal Yamaha tests that guarantee the highest possible level of reliability.

Note: Yamaha Speaker Processing provides optimized matching with Yamaha Concert Club series, BR series or AX series speakers (all sold separately), for clean, solid reproduction that will deliver your music with maximum impact.

Quality Construction: Parts selection is crucial to achieving the best possible sound, and Yamaha spares no effort in selecting the best. The critical head amplifier circuit, for example, uses special low-noise chip resistors that are deposited on a thin film of nichrome for accurate, noise-free reproduction. Special care has also been taken in laying out the system's grounding as well as the circuitry in general to ensure that no unwanted noise or interference degrades the quality of the sound. The cabinet is formed of a special lightweight-but-rugged material, while a switching power supply delivers all the clean power the system needs. The power amp itself has also been refined for outstanding sound, extra high efficiency, and reliable performance.

Mixer Inputs: The mixer section offers a total of twelve inputs in a very versatile configuration: channels 1 through 4 are mono microphone or line inputs, channels 5/6 and 7/8 can function either as mono microphone/line inputs or stereo line inputs, and channels 9/10 and 11/12 offer mic and stereo line inputs. You can the line/mic switch for channels 1-4 in order to match the type of input signal you are supplying to the mixer. Each input has an independent level adjustment (0-10), 3-Band EQ (High/Mid/Low), effect control (0-10), and monitor setting (0-10).

Note: Before connecting input devices to the EMX series power mixer, be sure that all of these devices (including microphones) are powered off. And before turning the power to any device on or off, be sure to turn the volume of that device all the way down. Yamaha recommends that you do not connect electric instruments (such as electric guitars and basses) directly to the EMX series power mixer. Instead, these instruments should be connected through an intermediary device such as a direct box, a preamp (guitar amp), or an amp simulator (all sold separately).

3-Band Channel + 7-Band Stereo EQ: You can adjust the power mixer's 3-Band channel EQ independently for each input channel. This 3-band equalizer adjusts the selected channel's high (10kHz), mid (2.5kHz), and low (100Hz) frequency bands between -15 and +15. The power mixer also features a 7-band Stereo EQ which adjusts the frequency characteristics of the unit's monitor or main stereo outputs. You can adjust the 7-band EQ (125, 250, 500, 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k Hz) from -12 to + 12.

Built-in SPX Effects: Yamaha's SPX effects are widely recognized as being some of the finest available for both recording and live sound. The EMX-series powered mixers feature an SPX effect processor built in, delivering extraordinary effect quality with 32-bit processing. 16 effect programs that give you top-quality digital reverb, echo, delay, modulation, and distortion. Adjustable settings include an effect level (0-10) for each channel and effect return (0-10) for main stereo and monitor output. You can also use the unit's Paramater knob to adjust the depth and speed of a particular effect that will be applied to all channels. There's even a footswitch connector that will accept an optional FC5 footswitch (sold separately) for effect on/off control.

Compressor Circuit: All four monaural mic/line channels on the EMX312SC feature built-in compressors that can help to bring vocals to the front of the mix, give your guitars extra smoothness and presence, deliver a more punchy bass sound, and generally refine your mixes in a multitude of ways. Setting up optimal compression for a source is usually a complicated process, but this unique compressor makes it easy to achieve "musical" compression for enhanced vocal or guitar sound.

High-Efficiency Power Amplifiers: To make the EMX-series powered mixers light and manageable, the power amplifiers used must be extremely efficient while providing superior sound quality. In fact, the EMX power amplifiers are remarkably efficient, delivering high power with relatively low power consumption and heat generation. At the same time they deliver outstanding audio quality with excellent transient response and low distortion. The Yamaha EMX312SC' amp is rated at 300W + 300W (4-ohm). The power amp mode switch allows the internal power amplifiers to be configured in a variety of ways. A simple switch setting allows you to set up the ideal main and monitor output configuration for your application. You can use the unit's "Master Knob" to adjust the volume level of output signal. There is a lamp that lights up when the amplified signal being output at the corresponding Speakers jack hits its maximum value.

Note: Before turning power on, make sure that the Level and Master knobs are set to the "0" position. To prevent an unpleasant burst of noise from your speakers, you should power up the sound sources first, and then the other devices in order of their distance from the source (starting with the closest). When turning power off, proceed in the opposite order. Never connect both A and B jacks to a single speaker. Connection of both jacks to the same speaker may result in damage to the mixer.

Speaker/Line-Level Outputs: The internal amp makes it possible to connect the unit's "Speakers" jacks directly to non-powered speakers, with no need for an external amplifier in between. But, if you want even more output, you can get it by connecting a power amp (sold separately) to the power mixer's Main Stereo Output, and then connecting your speakers to the separate power amp. The Monitor output jack lets you connect a powered speaker for self-monitoring. There is also a Record Out which sends the unit's main stereo signal to an external DAT or CD-recorder. In addition, the Effect Output can be used to connect a separate effect processor, which you can then feed back into the power mixer.

FCL (Feedback Channel Locating): The Yamaha FCL (Feedback Channel Locating) system makes locating and eliminating feedback easier than ever. FCL indicators provided on each input channel indicate which channel feedback is occurring in, so you can identify it visually and adjust levels or EQ as required.

Forced Air Cooling System: Airflow can be compromised when a powered mixer is rack mounted, and direct sunlight in outdoor applications can raise temperatures to dangerous levels. The EMX-series mixers feature a forced-air cooling system that has been custom-designed for each model to ensure reliable operation and high performance even under difficult conditions

Phantom Switch: This switch toggles +15V phantom power on and off. If you set the switch on, the mixer supplies power to the XLR mic input jacks on all channels, the Input B jacks on channels 1-4, and the phone mic jacks on channel pairs 5/6-11/12. Set this switch on when using one or more condenser microphones.

Standby Switch: Another handy features is a Standby switch that mutes channels 1 through 8 so that, for example, after rehearsal or between sets you can mute performer's inputs 1 through 8 without having to change fader settings, while stereo inputs 9 through 12 remain active for background music playback.
