The Wren V5AP AirPlay wireless speaker system blurs the line between quality audio gear and fine home décor. This stylish retro-looking design features a curved cabinet, trimmed in silver. The wood veneer top and silver speaker grille complete the look of this elegant system.
The system features high-performance 3/4" tweeters for clear highs and two 3" drivers for clean midrange and low tones. A bass port in the rear further reinforces the low frequencies. The V5AP's cabinet is made of MDF to minimize unwanted resonance. And the silicone pad on the bottom acts as a cushion to soak up cabinet vibrations.
Wren's proprietary Digital Signal Processing circuitry ensures accurate signal decoding and life-like sound reproduction. The system is powered by a built-in 50-watt Class-D amplifier. You'll experience warm, natural sound, whether playing your music at low or high volume levels.
You can easily play music from your computer wirelessly on the V5AP system through iTunes®. You can even stream to multiple V5APs (and other AirPlay-compatible systems) to simultaneously play your music in different locations throughout your home. And you can control the volume levels of each connected player individually or jointly through your computer's iTunes program.
With your Apple portable — iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch® — you have even more options. Stream music wirelessly directly from your device to the V5AP. Or use your portable as a remote to control your computer's iTunes® library. Through AirPlay you can select songs and playlists, and adjust the volume level of the system as well.
Praise for the Wren V5 from inner|fidelity
"I've heard some reasonably good sounding devices of this type in the past... I'd say the Wren is my favorite of the bunch. It sounds great, but more importantly — it looks better in a stylish-yet-not-in-your-face sort of way."

Use the stereo minijack input to connect other portables to the system. The V5AP's USB port lets you connect an Apple portable with its charging cable. Your device will automatically recharge, and you can use the system's remote to control your connected player.
I just ordered a second one of these, about a year after I purchased the first one. That, in itself, should tell you something. I had some initial problems with the speaker losing connectivity when it went into a power-off state. Wren tech support was great to work with, but flummoxed. I eventually stumbled onto a solution. I believe the problem was that the antenna for the speaker is in the power cord. I had left the power cord coiled, for aesthetic reasons. Once I uncoiled the power cord, the speaker has performed flawlessly and has never lost its connection.
Pros: It looks really nice, has a fairly small footprint, nice clear sound, and set-up is a breeze. It's loud enough that the neighbors can hear you when you rock out. Or when you decide that Beethoven's Ninth sounds good at high volume.
Cons: No sub-woofer, so it doesn't have gut-punching bass. It has decent bass response, but the speaker cones aren't physically large enough to push the air necessary to produce that bass rumble. But if you expect sub-woofer sound from any speaker this size, you will be disappointed.
The speaker looks great! Nicely designed and well made. I have no idea how it sounds though. It does nothing but constently updating its firmware from what I can tell. Do yourself a favor and get the Bose Soundtouch model to fit your need as the tech on this one is not very good.
Pros: Design, build look.
Cons: Technology is poorly executed.
The Wren had great overall sound quality. Unfortunately, I had to return it because of product malfunction. After one day of use, the Wren would no longer connect wirelessly with my iPad or computer.
Pros: Sound quality and looks
Cons: Product malfunction with connectivity.
Cosmetically looks awesome , nicely detailed wood grain with platinum finishes 9/10 ... Sound 7/10 yes it goes pretty loud , but the bass is bit muffled , vocals are not as clear App 4/10 setup is horrible, it defaults back to original settings so that means you have reinstall network connections in order to use AirPlay. App has no features ! There's no way to adjust the sound?? Firmware update is a must ! I would like to see a dedicated sound feature for bass treble / equalizer and updated app that allows your device to remember your network setting automatically more efficient
Pros: Looks great, AirPlay cabilites, pretty loud
Cons: It's not portable, connection to AirPlay is obsolete , you cannot configure your sound, bass or treble . App is horrible!
All around great speaker.
Pros: Great sound. Easy to use and set up.
Cons: If hear static when playing audio from the browser, fixing it requires a reboot.
Thus far I've been very pleased with the Wren V5AP. Set up was a snap, and the sound quality from the unit is very nice (this replaces a home grown version using some Bose speakers and an Airplay adapter - too many wires on the homegrown approach). The Wren V5AP is actually really nice looking and seems well built. We really liked the wood veneer finish as it makes the model look more like furniture than gadget. We'll be buying at least one more to update our multi-room iTunes speaker system. The little remote control is also a nice touch (we have ours up on a shelf in the kitchen, so hard to reach by hand... but no worry there, it comes with a handy remote that gets stashed in the stuff drawer). Nicely done Wren, nicely done.
Pros: Rich sound, simple set up, nice finish, remote control
Cons: none yet
I've been very happy with the Wren V5AP since it arrived a couple of weeks ago. The sound is much more full than other wireless speakers I've heard. The music has a presence in the room instead of sounding like it's coming out of a box, especially noticeable when you move around the room. It's also nice looking. It's a little larger than some other speakers but I don't mind, it's worth it. A very solid value.
Pros: Full sound. Nice looking. Quality construction.
Cons: Slightly larger and less portable than some.
A beautiful speaker with very good sound quality and easy set-up and operation. I wanted a system that would play podcasts and music simply and intuitively over my wireless network with very good sound without breaking the bank and this fit the bill nicely. I haven't tried the Wren Direct option (allowing streaming directly from an iOS device without a WiFi signal) but this is an intriguing option.
Pros: -Ease of set-up and use -Warm sound
Cons: - Operation of the remote can be temperamental, but I don't use it much.
Setup was simple following the instruction, connecting to a iPad unit. Sound is good to excellent it depends on what is playing at the time. All in all it was a good purchase for the small room that it was place in.
Excellent speaker for a reasonable price.Well made. Easy to set-up and use. Have listened to jazz, classical, opera, and some pop and found the instruments and voices to be distinct and clean. Good bass; even could get a 'feel' for the low organ notes in Bach's great Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Volume may be a limiting factor at the loudest setting levels, but I have not ever got there as I can get it to the point where it will be at an acceptable 'concert hall' setting - and I don't mean a rock concert. Have only used it via the direct connection method, as my WiFi is non-existant.
Pros: Well designed and manufactured.
Cons: Lack of bass and treble and balance controls.
The speaker is great sounding. It is definitely a "stereo replacement" type of product. Consequently, it is rather large. There's no surprise that it performs better than other bluetooth/airplay speaker, simply because it can house bigger speakers. Please look at the size properly before you buy, I found it a little unwieldy compared to other products pitched with the same functionality.
Pros: Great sounds.
Cons: Its a big speaker.
Nice construction. Really conveys a sense of quality. Same can be said for the sound this little speaker system produces (bass response is pleasant and the high end is not tinny). Only issue I have had is connection to Airplay, and my guess is that this is a function of the size of the house and the proximity of the speaker to my Apple time Capsule. May need to boost the network to achieve a strong steady wi-fi, especially if using other wi-fi intensive applications simultaneously.
Pros: Great sound and great looks in a small Airplay-compatible package for a reasonable price.
Cons: Optimal airplay may require a bridge or boost of your Wi-fi depending on the arrangement, construction materials, and distance.
I have heard good things on the net about Wren so I decided to take a chance on there product. Glad I did, the wood cabinet is gorgeous and the sound is amazing. Everything about the product has impressed me - the packaging is all recyclable, the manual is easy to use, set up was a breeze, and the product is top notch. It was easy to connect to my network, works with my iPad and iTunes on my PC and my kids love using it as well. I'm still blown away with how good it sounds, no matter what I have played on it, from Pink to Norah Jones to Boston, Jazz, rock, and classical all sound great! Every time I turn it on I'm impressed.
Pros: Great look - the bamboo finish it great, nice to see wood on a speaker again Great sound - I still can't get over how good this little thing sounds Easy to use - I was up and running in about 10 minutes after I got it.
Cons: It would be nice to have Bluetooth in it as well as airplay.
High Performance Drivers & Amplifier: The Wren V5 employs two 3" long-throw drivers with 4-layer voice coils to handle big power while dissipating heat. High frequencies are rendered smooth and natural by a pair of edge-driven, wide dispersion 0.75" soft dome tweeters optimally positioned on the front baffle to create a wide, realistic soundstage. The drivers are powered by Intersil's D2 Audio DSP-controlled 25 watts x 2 channel digital amplifier. DSP optimization allows you to play your music louder with more bass and less distortion.
Solid Anti-Resonance Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Wren V5 is made from real wood, with natural bamboo or rosewood finishes instead of painted plastic. Beneath the beautiful bamboo or rosewood veneer is half-inch laminated MDF board that eliminates resonance and coloration. A precisely tuned acoustic rear-firing port extends the low end of the driver to provide power bass performance. The underside of the Wren V5 is covered with a 4mm low durometer silicone pad that stabilizes the chassis and absorbs cabinet vibration. Wren's unique internal diamond-matrix grille design protects the drivers without distorting the sound.
Apple Device Connectivity: The Wren V5AP powered speaker supports iPod, iPhone, and iPad connectivity via built-in AirPlay and its rear-panel USB port.
Note: The V5AP's AirPlay and USB port only support Apple iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices. Its not compatible with Android smartphone/tablets, other USB mass storage class devices, DLNA, or Bluetooth.
Apple Device Compatibility Chart: The Wren V5AP is "made for iPod/iPhone" and supports the following iPod/iPhone model functions (as of 12/6/2013).
|Apple Device||Generation||Tested Version||Connection Type||Media Type||Control Type||Display Type||Charge|
|USB||AirPlay||Audio||Video||iPod/iPhone||Remote||Track Info||Artist/Song Text|
Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
Simple Controls: The Wren V5 provides easy-to-use power, volume, and source buttons on the side-panel of the system. It also includes an IR remote for wireless operation of the system. In addition to power, volume, and source control, the remote allows you to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Shuffle/Repeat. Advanced music navigation and song/artist information will need to be done through your Apple AirPlay device.
Note: When in AirPlay mode, the volume control on the AirPlay source device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or iTunes running on a PC or MAC) will override the volume control on the Wren V5AP and the remote control.
Multi-Room Application: You can link multiple Wren V5AP speakers together (up to 4) to create an audio system for your entire home. You can stream to all the speakers at once, or let individual listeners stream different music to different parts of the house.
Aux Input: A 3.5mm auxiliary input lets you connect and play music from other audio sources, such as a portable CD player or MP3 player with an audio output or headphone output jack.
External AC Power Supply: The Wren V5 operates off of standard household current using the supplied AC power adapter and cord.
Auto Standby & Sleep Modes: After twenty-five minutes of inactivity, the system will automatically enter Auto Standby mode, shutting down all power except WiFi. The speaker will remain available on AirPlay and can be awakened by connecting to the product via AirPlay or by briefly pressing the power button on the speaker. After seven minutes in Auto Standby mode, the speaker will enter Auto Sleep mode, which reduces power usage to the minimum. The speaker will not be available as an AirPlay product in this mode and can only be awakened by pressing the power button on the system or remote control. When in Auto Sleep mode, no indicators will be lit.
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Wren V5AP does have a 3.5mm Aux Input that will allow you to connect and play music from other audio sources. The most common devices are portable CD or MP3 players, but if your TV has a 3.5mm audio output or headphone output jack it should work as well. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Aug 11, 2015 ] Staff
Yes you can, although we only have one Wren. The icon at on the top of your iTunes bar will let you pick the speaker sources - it says "single" or "multiple," so for example, I can pick both the single Wren and our Apple TV (which is connected to a soundbar). [ LYNN Aug 04, 2015 ]
I am honestly not sure but would think that the company would be the best source for an answer. And their customer service is first rate. [ Christopher Jul 31, 2015 ]
No, while airplay will allow you to stream to multiple speakers, there is no way to separate the channels. [ David Jul 31, 2015 ]
Sorry, I don't Know the answer to your question. Since I only have one unit. [ MARK Jul 31, 2015 ]
No, sadly. Where are the Airplay engineers? [ Scott Jul 31, 2015 ]
Yes. I stream exclusively through iTunes. [ James Nov 12, 2014 ]
After looking at other AirPlay compatible speakers, I decided to go with the Bowers & Wilkins speakers as they have the Ethernet port for a more reliable connection. [ W.Eng Nov 10, 2014 ]
Yes. These speakers can play any audio transmitted via AirPlay or a 3.5mm jack. [ Scott Nov 09, 2014 ]
Thanks, I decided to go with the Bowers & Wilkins speakers as those have the Ethernet port option for a more reliable connection than wireless. [ W.Eng Nov 09, 2014 ]
It's just a speaker. It will play whatever you can play in iTunes, or on your iPhone or iPad. [ Peter Nov 09, 2014 ]
