Nothing but the truth

KRK VXT8 powered studio monitor

An advanced ABS enclosure design and high-end, bi-amped drivers give the KRK VXT8 powered studio monitor exceptionally accurate and detailed sound.

You work hard to get all the details on your recordings just right. Shouldn't your monitors do the same? They will if you're using KRK's VXT series powered studio monitors. The VXTs can bring out every last note in your mix with same precision and accuracy that you put into it. That's because KRK, one of the world's most respected makers of reference-quality studio monitors, cares about sound quality just as much as you do. With the VXTs in your studio, you'll hear nothing but the truth (at least from your speakers).

The technology behind the sound

Reference quality sound starts with the VXT's high-density ABS molded foam enclosure. This rugged, impact-resistant material allowed KRK engineers to create a sleek, contoured cabinet that minimizes diffraction and phase distortion to provide superior imaging with a wider sweet spot. The molding process also gives VXT monitors outstanding structural strength and extremely low resonance for minimal sonic coloration and maximum accuracy. The VXT8's 1" silk soft dome tweeter and strong 8" Kevlar woofer serve up extended, non-fatiguing highs, accurate mids for clear vocals, and taut, responsive bass.

The monitor's powerful bi-amped design features separate amplifiers for the tweeter and woofer to deliver plenty of output with exceptionally low distortion. And its front-firing port extends low-frequency response while reducing boundary coupling, an affect that can cause overemphasis of certain bass frequencies when the monitor is placed near a wall or corner.

The VXT8 accurately reproduces full-range sound down to 37 Hz. If you happen to need more bass, supplement your monitors with a KRK studio subwoofer.

Controls and connections

VXT monitors come with no-nonsense, easy to use controls. The input sensitivity level adjustment lets you match your monitor's output to your system. A ground lift switch helps tame ground loop noise that can creep in through AC lines and other sources. The clip indicator/limiter switch lets you monitor input levels with a built-in LED to guard against clipping, and if necessary, limit amplifier overdrive that can damage your speakers.

KRK knows you don't always have control over the space you're working in, so they gave the VXT8 monitor fine-tuning capabilities to help you match its sound to your environment. The high-frequency level adjustment switch allows you to tailor the tweeter's output to suit your sonic preference. The low-frequency control lets you adjust bass to compensate for room acoustics, room size, and monitor position to maintain proper frequency response. And KRK's thoughtfully placed tamper-resistant switch covers prevent accidental settings changes.

Each VXT monitor features a balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS input jack for a clean, pro-quality connection.

Features

Two-Way Speaker Design: The KRK VXT8 monitor features a two-way speaker design for vocal clarity and extended bass response.

  • 1" Silk Dome Tweeter: The domed tweeter is comprised of true silk for fast transient response. Silk construction reduces ear fatigue and the tweeter waveguide geometry ensures high frequency directivity. The tweeter is recessed into a waveguide and coupled to the curved front baffle to optimize on and off-axis linearity resulting in excellent imaging and a wider sweet spot.
  • 8" Kevlar Woofer: The inter-molecular hydrogen bonds of Kevlar give the cone high tensile strength for it's light weight. Kevlar also maintains its strength and resilience over a wide temperature range. The lightweight and resilient properties of Kevlar reduces distortion and delivers extended low-end performance as compared to cones made from paper or polypropylene. The aluminum pole and vented formers remove heat and reduce the effects of power compression ensuring audio performance is consistent and does not deteriorate over time.

Bi-Amplification:  The proprietary bi-amped, class A/B amplifier offers large headroom and low distortion with SPL up to 114dB. The 180 watt amplifier supplies 60 watts to the tweeter and 120 watts to the woofer.

Curved Surfaces: The molded shape of the VXT8 allows for radically curved surfaces that sound better. Traditional rectangular speakers suffer from diffraction as sounds leaving the edge of the cabinet are reflected back into the sound field causing phase distortion. The VXT8 virtually eliminates diffraction and delivers excellent imaging characteristics and a much wider sweet spot.

Low-Resonance Cabinet: The VXT8 uses high-tech ABS Structural Foam in its cabinet. This material is very rugged and extremely impact resistant, and makes it possible for KRK engineers to create a speaker with no internal parallel walls, thereby preventing sound-coloring internal nodes. This material also has far better damping characteristics than traditional speaker materials which eliminates coloration caused by cabinet resonance.

Front-Firing Port: The KRK VXT8 includes a front-firing port, which is just the right shape to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance this approach delivers, even at high SPLs. In comparison to rear-firing ports which tend to create bass coupling with walls and corners amplifying low frequency information which will color your mix.

Controls: The KRK VXT8 powered studio monitor speaker features volume and low/high frequency control.

  • Volume: The input sensitivity is adjusted with the rear-panel mounted Volume control. Adjustment range is from -30dB to +6dB. Factory preset gain is +6dB.
  • Low & High Frequency: The VXT8 has both Low (whole/half/quarter) and High (-1dB/flat/+1dB) Frequency level controls. This feature provides specific adjustment of both ends of the frequency spectrum output most commonly affected by room acoustics. These controls ensure the most accurate mix for your particular room's acoustics.

Neutrik Combo Connector: The VXT8 is fitted with a  Neutrik combo connector which  accommodates XLR, 1/4" TRS, and 1/4" phone plugs.

Protection Circuitry: The KRK VXT8 features Thermal, Overload, and Clip protection circuitry to prevent damage. There is also a switchable limiter which will protect the unit from transients in the signal path.

Ground Lift: Allowing the disconnection of the ground terminal to help resolve issues such as hum and buzz caused by ground loops in poorly configured systems.
