About the Mackie MR8mk3

Eric A.

A monitor that works as hard as you do

When you flip the power switch on a Mackie monitor, the "Running Man" icon lights up. That means the speaker is ready to go to work on your next project. The MR8mk3 is designed to sound great in a wide variety of settings, from broadcast editing bay to home recording studio.

Mackie starts with a solid MDF cabinet, adds an 8" hyperbolic curved cone woofer and a 1" silk dome tweeter, then cradles them in a nest of sound-damping batting, which reduces unwanted resonances and contributes to this speaker's clean, tight sound. The mk3 series is also designed with your ear in mind. Mackie uses a music-centric voicing process meant to deliver your mix with clarity and depth. That means that Mackie's engineers spend plenty of time actively listening to these speakers in action, to make sure their theories sound great in practice. They've optimized the sweet spot using their enhanced waveguide system, and tailored the rear port to deliver extended bass response down to 38 Hz. The MR8mk3 is a no-nonsense star when it comes to accurate imaging in the studio.

Plug and play

Connecting your Mackie system is easy. Each monitor has three inputs: balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS and unbalanced RCA. Basic equalization is available via two simple switches on the rear of every speaker. The low frequency filter allows you to boost bass playback by +2 or +4dB at 100 Hz. Frequencies 3,000 Hz and above can be attenuated -2dB or kicked up +2dB as needed.

Product Research

Features

Two-Way Speaker Design: The Mackie MRmk3 series studio monitor features a two-way speakers design. There is a 1" silk-dome tweeter for superior transient response great for snares and other fast-transient sources; and a 8" polypropylene woofer for high output with controlled low-frequency performance.

85W Class/AB Amplification: The Mackie MRmk3 studio monitor speaker employs a 55W + 30W amplifier to power the low-frequency and high-frequency drivers.

Custom-Tuned Rear Port: The custom-tuned rear port uses the radiation from the rear of the woofer cone to extend the low-frequency response of the speaker. The size of the port is carefully designed with respect to the volume of the cabinet and characteristics of the woofer to produce the best low-frequency extension.

Input Level: The Input Level control adjusts the sensitivity of the input section of the speaker according to the signal strength from the input source.

Crossover: The powered studio monitor speaker offers a low-frequency and high-frequency filter switch. The LF filter tailors the overall low-frequency response by +2dB or +4dB at 100Hz. The HP filter tailor the overall high frequency response by +/-2dB at 3kHz.

Signal Inputs: There are three types of input connector to choose from; balanced XLR, balanced 1/4", and unbalanced RCA. Connect the line-level signal from your mixer or other signal source to one these input  jacks. Since all three of these are connected together electrically, do not connect more than one signal at a time to the input jacks.

Note: A balanced signal provides better noise rejection and is the preferred method, especially if using a cable long than 20'.
