CableTruth 303T

Overview

Our take on the CableTruth 303T

Whether you're feeding stereo music to a DAC or Dolby® Digital surround sound to your receiver, the optical cable is a crucial link in the signal chain and shouldn't be overlooked. Cheaply made optical cables can have imperfections in the fiber that cause light to "scatter," compromising signal integrity. The CableTruth 303T optical cable uses a special low-dispersion polymer fiber to minimize signal corruption and timing errors. It provides a distortion-free connection between digital audio source components — CD players, Blu-ray or DVD players — and A/V receivers, DACs, and even some sound bars. The cable has full-size Toslink connectors at each end.

Don't cheap out on this crucial link

Why fiber instead of copper?

Optical cables carry signals as pulses of light rather than a stream of electrons, so they are virtually impervious to magnetic or electrical interference. Unlike cables made of wire which require some type of metal connector to transfer the signal between components, in an optical cable, the very tip of the connector is the fiber itself, and it requires special polishing to reduce light refractions.

Perfect, just what I needed to finish my surround sound project. Works great! I have never used digital optical setup before now. If you haven't either, I would recommend giving it a try. Well worth the money!

Nice!

This cable was much more substantial then the broken one I replace it with. the optical cable that came with my TV was small and the plastic was brittle and broke off into the connection. (2) cables came with the TV. However, if they had only use one of these cables, it would have been better! These cable is durable with metal connection!

Pros: Love it!

Cons:

Take the covers off

Written by: Zorro's Friend from Wesley, AR on February 7, 2016

The optical cable was a great price. I didn't realize each end had a protective plastic cover. Once I removed those the cable worked great and I eliminated the old 3 cable AV cable with this better sounding optical sound cable.

Pros: Excellent, remove the protective tips if you don't read instructions like me.

Cons: None

Very good shorter optical cable

Great cable for digital sound

Written by: Tommy from New York on January 16, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far so good. I am using this cable with a Toslink/Mini-Optical adapter attached to plug into the headphone jack of my Apple MacBook Pro computer. This bypasses the DAC in my computer and sends the digital signal directly to the high performance DAC in my stereo receiver. The resulting sound is amazing. The cable is sturdy enough to handle the wear and tear of constant plugging and unplugging. This cable is great bang for the buck.

Pros: Durable. Great sound.

Cons: None.

It works

Written by: rybitski from Virginia on August 28, 2015

This item does what it is supposed to and beat the price of the equivalent cable sold locally. It isn't as nice as some of the cables I have purchased from online for half the price, but I was in a pinch and needed something locally. Feels fragile, but hey, it's a strand of glass.

Pros: Works.

Cons: Costs more than better constructed cables online.

Great cable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not much to say. It's a cable. But it's an excellent cable. The construction is excellent. Nice strain relief at the termination. The cable itself is light and flexible. Worked out of the box without a hitch. If you haven't used optical cable before, notice the protective cover at the ends. They are small.

Another plus for AudioQuest

Written by: Mark H. from Kalamazoo, MI on July 28, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I already use AudioQuest cables for my speakers, so when the Crutchfield agent told me these were manufactured by the same company, I didn't hesitate to buy. I really don't know too much about this sort of thing, but the cable is very well-made and delivers the signal from my televison to my amplifier without any distortion. The price is very reasonable as well. Definitely recommended!

Pros: Excellent shielding, insulation, and flexibility.

Cons: I only needed a 3 foot length.

Product Research

Features

Optical (Toslink) Digital Cable: The CableTruth Toslink optical cable uses a specifically specified low-dispersion polymer fiber. This minimizes signal corruption and timing errors that occur when a normal fiber's imperfections cause light to "scatter", forcing the light signal to take multiple paths within each fiber. Each path has a slightly different length, introducing dispersion-over-time, causing partial misinterpretation of the digital data stream and inferior sound.

  • Low-Dispersion Fiber Minimizes Digital-Timing Errors
  • Polished Optical Interface Minimizes Light Dispersion
  • Inner-Armor Layer Protects Optical Fiber
Note: Remove the plastic protectors on the optical cable and on equipment. Insert the connectors; they are "keyed" and will only fit one way.
