Overview: The Micro Fi by Celestron is a hand-held digital
microscope with built-in Wi-Fi. It has up to 80x magnification, or can be set to
infinity focus (1x). The Micro Fi can be used for inspection, forensics, or in
Wi-Fi: The Micro Fi has no eyepiece or LCD screen to view
the object under the microscope. Instead, the unit sends images via Wi-Fi (IEEE
802.11 b/g/n) to a smartphone or tablet. Using the free Micro Fi application,
you can stream live MPEG 4 video up to 3 devices at once with a signal range of
up to 30 feet. The Micro Fi app is available from the Apple iTunes App Store for
use on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 6 or later. It is also
compatible with Android devices running Android version 2.3.3 and up.
Built-in Digital Camera: The Micro Fi has a 0.3MP color
1/4" CMOS image sensor that can take digital still images as well as stream live VGA video at 15 ips. The shutter release is located on the microscope, or can be
activated through the app. Still images are saved in the Camera Roll (for
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) or the Gallery (Android). Videos are saved to the
app, and can be viewed by pressing the Play button on the app.
Micro Fi App: The Micro Fi app must first be downloaded to
your smartphone or tablet before you can use the microscope. Once connected to
the microscope via Wi-Fi, you can control the unit through the app. Controls
include Power, Pause, Play, Snapshot, and Movie Record/Stop. You can also change
settings for brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation.
On-board Controls: The unit features numerous controls and
settings for use in different situations. In addition to the On/Off button, the
Micro Fi has an illuminator adjustment knob to increase or decrease the
intensity of the built in white LED illumination ring. With the Snapshot button,
you can take a still image of your subject which is captured on the smart
device. The large focus dial lets you adjust the focus range from 10mm to
Tripod Mountable: The Micro Fi can be mounted to a tripod.
It has a threaded 1/4"-20 insert for use with a tripod or stand. It can also be
wall mounted (using a 3rd-party wall mounting bracket) for use as a surveillance
camera (with the lens configuration set at infinity focus).
Power Requirements: The Micro Fi is powered by three "AA"
batteries (not included).
